I am a vegan activist, animal rights activist, and environmental/climate activist, and I share various educational content on veganism - ethics, the environment, climate change, and human rights issues, as well as easy vegan recipes/plant-based recipes.
The Netflix documentary Seaspiracy released in March exposes the cruel and devastating reality - what's happening in our oceans - overfishing, illegal fishing, human trafficking, forced labor and slavery at sea, etc. There is no question that overfishing is the biggest threat to marine biodiversity. Seaspiracy's eye-opening story has inspired so many to change their lifestyles, but at the same time, caused so much controversy. In this video, I'm going to respond to some marine biologists reacting to/commenting on the documentary. They claim that sustainable fishing does exist... does it really? Or is it right to say it does?
The video covers these topics: Protecting the sustenance fishers, carbon footprint of diets, aquaculture (fish farming/farmed fish), seafood supply chains, child labor/forced labor/slavery at sea, sustainable fishing, MSC label & certification, plastic pollution (the great pacific garbage patch, plastic straws & fishing nets (ghost nets)) and some over laughable comments by the marine biologists on Seaspiracy. The best way for us the consumers to stop the degradation of the oceans and the planet is to switch to plant based protein, plant based diet/vegan diet, educate people, spread awareness and change the supply and demand. AND we need to push the governments to spend the fishing subsidies to help the people in the fishing industry financially during the transition phase instead.
