Peter and Tim used sing together in another a cappella vocal group years ago. Peter is a master of layering vioces. The choral choir background sounds was approx 120 layers of Tim and Peter voices. Peter and Tim have done over 12 collaborations. Some of them are Sound of Silence, Teach your Children,Blackbird, Greensleeves, Bridge over trouble water, Sunshine on my Shoulders plus others you could check out. Thanks for your reactions and you have a blessed day
Hiya Rosalie! Yes, this was all just Peter and Tim in layers. Recorded and taped a thousand miles apart (Peter in Oregon, Tim in Grand Cayman). Incredible! 💗🙂I've been following Peter Hollens for years and years (longer than I've been following Home Free actually). Peter and Tim (along with most of the rest of the a Capella community here on UA-cam) are long standing friends and have worked together over and over again. Peter's strong classical background and amazing musical arrangement talent serves us all extremely well with all of his music, often presented in over 100 vocal layers. Another huge trove of fantastic music available on his channel, from dark classics like this one, to pop, to Christmas, to folk, to Disney, to Broadway, and more covers and originals. Welcome to the musical a Capella world of Peter Hollens! 🥰 Hugs, my friend! xo 🤗✨
This is my favorite version of this song. The contrast in voices is beautiful. Peter in the higher tenor ranges & then paired with the true natural bass voice of Tim. And that last dragon's breath note is truly remarkable & how long he sustains it. Peter & Tim have collaborated on quite a few other songs & they are all beautiful. Peter is a master at layering voices. Check out "Sound Of Silence", "Bridge Over Troubled Water", "Greensleeves", "Fire & Rain", "Teach Your Children", "Sunshine On My Shoulders", "You Can Close Your Eyes", "And So It Goes" & "Blackbird".
Oddly, Peter can hit almost the notes as Tim. He just can't sustain them for 15 seconds. And we all know how high Tim can go. It's why the a capella world does whatever they feel like doing.
Peter and Chance met each other on Season two of The Sing-Off. Peter had formed sn acapella group at the University of Washington that competed. Chance was the bass of Street Corner Symphony which was first runner up. Chance had been a last moment replacement for the group. Street Corner Symphony had lost their bass just after they had qualified to be on The Sing-Off. They first contacted Tim Foust to replace their bass. At the time, Tim had decided not to pursue a music career, especially acapella. He turned down their offer to perform on national TV. Adam was recruited to be the group's bass by one of the members that he had gone to college with. They had evidently taken chorus together. It was through Tim's refusal that Chance was introduced to the acapella world The acapella world has lot of connections due to it being small with a culture of cooperation despite the different competitions. The lack of rivalry among the groups was a disappointment to the producers of The Sing-Off despite it being s competition. The producers wanted more conflict and tried to encourage it to make the show.ore dramatic. However, their efforts mainly failed despite their editing or prepared situations.
Contemporary Acapella Recording Artists nominated, Country Roads by Peter Hollens and Adam Chance of Home Free for best country Acapella song of 2021. However, the winner of that category was Chris Rupp, founding member of Home Free and Tim Foust for Long Black Train.
If those two excellent artists do a cover of song of Durin, then the earth will explode itself. The soothing brilliant calming voice of Peter combined with the bass voice of Tim is something amazing
Try listening to the Peter Hollins/Home Free version of "Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For". It includes a lot of their subscribers singing with them, from all over. A lot of good energy. Don't worry about "zoning out" listening to good music. That's also a reaction.
as always great reaction you are so good at these reactions I like these 2 voices together it makes for a great mix I like the layering done here. as always your ride or die forever Eyy Oooo p.s. your doing so awesome keep going never stop please
You just witnessed Tim Foust calling forth the soul of the mountain. Peter Hollens lives in the same town I do and is great, especially some of his collaborations. Great reaction and be well. 😄
I love the collaboration between Peter and Tim. They are in fantastic harmony with each other. For me, Tim is the best bass singer there is at the moment. Every note is clean to the point and he can hold notes for a very long time with seeming ease. If you watch closely, you can see the camera shake on Tim's last note. Great reaction! Greetings from Germany :-)
This was all two voices, Peter and Tim, Layered many times over. Peter is a master at this and he and Tim or he and Home Free have a great relationship. You should really, really, listen to Peter and Home Free do the U2 song, "Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" which was done during COVID and includes about 300 of their fans from Patreon with everyone's part being virtually recorded and then masterfully edited together. It's something you will not forget soon. Any way, great job as always young lady. Keep it up.
He did a collab with Home Free "Still haven't found what I'm looking for" a cover from, of course, U2. You will love that video that was done in lockdown I believe, as well as "everybody walkin' this land" by Home Free with a wonderful message at the end of both videos explaining the videos.
Oh wow, thank you for sharing with us your heritage/ethnicity: "German/Cuban," Cuban/German" such an interesting combination & no matter how you look at it, "eres una bella persona." Keep up the good work, keep on believing & keep the faith!!!
This is epic and you will need to hear Geoff Castellucci of VoicePlay FAR OVER THE MISTY MOUNTAINS COLD | Low Bass Singer Cover of this is also amazing.
Peter will sometimes use over 100 tracks/layers at a time when putting together a song. I am amazed at what he is able to produce. You asked if it was him singing the high notes and the answer is "yes". Both Peter and Tim have fantastic multi-register ranges. Tim and Peter have also collaborated and a number of other songs (Bridge over Troubled Water; Fire & Rain; Blackbird) that are well heard. I encourage you to check out more of Peter's work and also Tim's solo work where he will layer his voice to do a whole chorus similar to what they did here. Great reaction! Loved your eyes when Tim hit the last note.😁
For more Peter Hollens check him out in "Wayfaring Stranger" featuring The Swingle Singers. Watch how the music (voice choices, dynamics) follow the story. Also check out his Medley of Disney Villains.
Is it only me, or Tim's voice on bass has a vibrato at the words cold and over and deep, and it is like Tim's voice is "cruising" that bass give a very harmonic melody while Peter's voice soothes and calms those high notes?
Hi I love watching reactors react to Tim's deep voice. Peter did most of the background stuff. Peter is a great singer. You should react to to more of Peter and Home Free. There's a couple of videos of Tim blowing out the speakers
Little story from days of old. I was driving to Berlin. With a friend, right next to me. (I used to be a rider.) Some 45 nmin of driving down the Autobahn. Not a single word was spoken. She turned to me and said: "It even feels comfortable to sit right next to you and saying nothing." Sorry: that is the vibe that comes to me, watching you react. It's a pleasure.
Peter Hollens has done collaborations with so many different artists, especially UA-cam artists. Peter did "Amazing Grace" with Home Free. Peter shows a great deal of his range in one of my favorite covers by him, name "Into The West".
"Into the west" is beautiful, but I don't think I have ever found a reaction to it. I fully support this suggestion as a follow up to "Misty mountains".
Peter recently announced that he and Tim are coming out with an album. This song, along with their cover of Billy Joel's "And so it goes" are my two personal favorites, although they're all great.
Awesome reaction, you appreciated and didn't talk to much. Keep doing what your doing. Mad respect. 90% of woman voice coaches can't shut they're pie long enough for the viewer to enjoy the son
Love getting to know of you..... please give a listen to a Peter Hollens & Home Free's cover of 'I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For.' Talk about the positive collaboration of the many..... The musicality is exquisite without an errant note! Something tells me you'll enjoy the spirit in how this song has been forged. Cheers!
Tim Foust can also sing tenor. His version of Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow/Stay, will blow your mind! If you haven't heard Man of Constant Sorrow, Home Free, please check it out. It is soo so good! The beat boxer is amazing! Peter Hollins is in a class by himself. So talented and has many voices, meaning layering, harmonizing with his own voice. Thankyou for reacting. Happy Holidays!
In order to get a full load of bass, you might react to the Bass Gang. On their cover of Mad World, they feature Elliot Robinson, one of the lowest basses in a capella, and one of the friends (and even former member) of Home Free, and of course Tim Foust.
You might be interested in Peter Hollens and Home Free singing "I Still Haven't Found What I Am Searching For" with their patrons also singing. I think it was during the lockdown. Also Tim and Peter have another duet with "The Sounds of Silence.". Tim matches Peter's tenor with some unexpected bass.
From what I have heard and read, there were 2 voices throughout this video. Peter and Tim. Combine the two voices and about 100-120 tracks of those two voices and you end up with a masterpiece like this. GREAT work by BOTH of these singers. And we all know now that Both Peter AND Timcan hit the HIGH Notes. Easily, too. Great Post.
Hi Rose. Love your reaction. I really like the Gregorian chant vibe in this version. Peter Hollins made an entire cd of songs from the Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit that is amazing. His wife is also a great singer, the movie Perfect Pitch is based on her college accupella group.
I must admit that listening through my laptop speakers the song didn't do much to me. But knowing Home Free, I tried it again with headphones. I'm so glad I did! The song in this arrangement has something primal - no higher brain functions needed - their voices take hold of your nerve-endings and put your whole body into resonance. Just amazing!
If you'd like to have your mind blown, check out Tm's cover of Will You Still Love Me/Stay!!! Also Peter and Home Free singing Amazing Grace is just beautiful!
Peter is a master of layering. It’s just Peter and Tim and yes, Peter is doing those high notes. If you look at Tim at the end you’ll notice the camera shake. Peter and Tim have many collaborations. As a matter of fact, they are putting out an album soon. I love And So It Goes, Greensleeves, Blackbird, Bridge Over Troubled Water. Peter also has done 2 songs with Home Free too….I love Amazing Grace. Good reaction! I love this rendition!
I love your reactions!!!! - Fun fact about this video - Tim and Peter go back a long way, being in another a cappella group years ago. This video was done in two separate locations. Tim was in the Cayman Islands and Peter was in Oregon and they shot this on the same day. They have a ton of songs together on your tube and even released an album or two. Peter is a one-person a capella singer who layers his voice over and over (I think he layered his voice about 120 times for this video and Tim did several layers of his voice too). Listen to some of their other songs, you won't be disappointed. Peters has done several with the entire Home Free Group as well
Absolutely LOVE your approach to reactions! I understand the need for many to pause due to copyright laws, but when able it’s nice to get through the whole song THEN discuss. We are watching your facial expressions for your reaction while listening to the song. Just like we would be driving down the road. You zoning out IS your reaction…and one we can all identify with!😊
Thanks, Rosalie! As I heard this again, I thought: "If two voices sound this good, I wonder what would happen if all of the great singers you've reacted to so far (both a cappella and not) sang a worship song together in a hall with great acoustics?" Then, I thought: "If everyone else stopped to listen, maybe there would be a moment of peace, like the Christmas ceasefire."
Oh wow! You are so right. Just imagine. What amazing sounds that would be. Sometimes I think about that too. So many amazing creations coming together in one voice.
Peter and Tim cover a lot of songs together and with Tim's group Home Free. These 2 are amazing together. Peter also does some great music with Malukah and he does an epic cover of the Skyrim theme with violinist Lindsey Sterling.
I do agree, Peter is a master in layering using up to and beyond 100+. Another master in layering is Sam Robson who I recommend you trying. He has done covers with around 150 layers.
All of the Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit movies had such great music, and a lot of the song lyrics were written by Tolkien himself and put to music so well.
New sub - really enjoyed your reaction to my favorite version of this song. And side note - also love the abstract globe on your wall (and if it isn't a globe, um.......). 🙂❤
Thanks Rosalie! Would love your reaction to another epic Acapella song... Voiceplay, doing "The Dragonborn Comes", featuring Omar Cardona. It's a mashup from the video game "Skyrim". VoicePlay being the theater kids that they are, get into costumes of the game characters. Even if you don't play video games , the video is so 😎 cool! Omar is also on this season of "The Voice" and may win the whole thing!
You need to see the version of this song that was done by Geoff Castellucci also another song from The Hobbit that was originally performed by Ed Sheeran, I See Fire.
I got the pleasure of seeing Peter live. It's a real shame he doesn't do national tours. He does regional, some things for the university and other stuff like that. He has a a good deal of gospel that you may want to browse. Just the one with Home Free, and that was his version of Amazing Grace. Hard to redo that one considering how many times it gets done but they somehow did it :)
YEEEESSS!!! Keep em comin! Peter's cover of I See Fire from the post credits of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug would go well with this. Also, another bass, Geoff (Jeff) Castellucci does a good cover of Misty Mountains.
IF you watch Tim's collar on the last 20 seconds you will see it go NUTS as Tim's bass ROCKS the Camera ! Also IF you liked THIS video try their : The Sound of Silents. Also the Wellerman group did this cover too and you could close your eyes and picture a Group of Dwarves around a fire singing this song.
@Rosalie Elliott I know this video is a year old, but I just ran across it now. You asked if Peter was the one on the Whistle Note. Some of your viewers said it was. That is incorrect. That high Whistle Note is actually his wife, Evynne Hollens (who also has a UA-cam Channel and sings covers, if you're interested, just search for her name). Peter DID try to sing the note. And he CAN hit the note, and, in fact, DID hit the note. But he didn't like how he sounded. Then he remembered Evynne can hit that note and actually sound good so he just asked her to do it and, being the loving wife that she is, she said "yes." Other than that one Whistle Note, all the other High Harmonies were, in fact, Peter himself. He's got a RIDICULOUS range.
Technically it isn't Acapella. It is done with 128 track recording. There are a lot of the songs from the Hobbit and LotR franchises in Peter's portfolio. He loves collaborating with other artists. One of my favorites is "The Parting Glass" ua-cam.com/video/3hMdoGet2A8/v-deo.html
I struggle with this song, because the absolute talent can't be denied yet I keep thinking 'okay, pick it up a little' so maybe this genre is just not for me. Which is a shame, because I do love their voices.
LOve your reaction to this masterpiece Rosalie. This is my favorite version of the song. My first time hearing Peter was in this video with Lindsey Sterling doing Skyrim - awesome vocal - ua-cam.com/video/BSLPH9d-jsI/v-deo.html .
If you want to hear something really special, I'd recommend: 1 - "Baba Yetu" Peter Hollens and Malukah sing this Swahili (?) version of 'The Lords Prayer.' It's much better as a song than it ever was as a prayer. 2 - "Greensleeves" Peter Hollens and Tim Foust sing this song you're probably familiar with (the ice cream man plays it as he drives around). 3 - "Danny Boy" Peter Hollens sings the most impactful rendition of this song that I've ever heard. I can't recommend this one highly enough!
No thank you for your reactions and commentary. I found your channel because of Nightwish but subscribed because of your positive attitude and willingness to explore different types of music. By the way zoning out and losing track of time and place is a reaction and a great song like this one will do that to you.
Peter and Tim used sing together in another a cappella vocal group years ago. Peter is a master of layering vioces. The choral choir background sounds was approx 120 layers of Tim and Peter voices. I did not know their history together! Thank you!
Greensleaves is beautiful and tims range in that is simply sick lol
Masterpiece!! Seen it at least 100 times. Never gets old. Tim!!!!!
It is rare when a song calls to something deep inside. This song surely does.
What a masterpiece. Seen it at least a dozen times. Never gets old. That bass drop to an F1 makes the camera shake.
It’s such a stirring, dramatic rendition and collaboration. Like some deep medieval majesty.
Peter & Tim are sensational together! Peter sang at my wedding in 2006 making me one lucky lady!
Hiya Rosalie! Yes, this was all just Peter and Tim in layers. Recorded and taped a thousand miles apart (Peter in Oregon, Tim in Grand Cayman). That’s so cool. I need to explore more of his music. It’s crazy. I’m amazed by all the treasures out there and I can’t keep up.
This is my favorite version of this song. The contrast in voices is beautiful. Peter in the higher tenor ranges & then paired with the true natural bass voice of Tim. Oddly, Peter can hit almost the notes as Tim. He just can't sustain them for 15 seconds.
And we all know how high Tim can go. It's why the a capella world does whatever they feel like doing.
Peter is actually more of a baritone, who has a major tenor extension and can go low, too. Insanely complex, versatile voice.
I agree Dagmar - my fave too because the contrast between the high and low tones seems to enhance both. I feel this in my core every time! 🙂❤

This is an awesome song. Peter and Tim did this song more than justice to this song. Love your reaction!
Peter Hollens is a genius at mixing vocal tracks. I believe he said that there were 120 different vocal tracks used on this video.
Contemporary Acapella Recording Artists nominated, Country Roads by Peter Hollens and Adam Chance of Home Free for best country Acapella song of 2021. However, the winner of that category was Chris Rupp, founding member of Home Free and Tim Foust for Long Black Train.

Thank you again for a absolut awesome reaction you are always the best greetings from Berlin 🥰🥰
Peter is the layering king. Next Level harmonies all by himself.
Liked the song and chilled attire.
I love your reaction to this, amazing what Peter did with 2 voices.
Beautiful❤❤❤.
If those two excellent artists do a cover of song of Durin, then the earth will explode itself. The soothing brilliant calming voice of Peter combined with the bass voice of Tim is something amazing

Hi Rosalie, This is an absolute "Masterpiece!!!" The chanting & the harmony are out of this world too!!!

Peter said he laid 150 tracks for this one. Peter was at home in Oregon, while Tim's was filmed while Home Free was in the Caribbean.

That was Peter with the high notes. Just Peter and Tim's voices
You just witnessed Tim Foust calling forth the soul of the mountain. Peter Hollens lives in the same town I do and is great, especially some of his collaborations. Great reaction and be well. 😄
Excellent reaction
You would LOVE Peter's cover of I See Fire. Sooo epic!!

And, Mayday - I was thinking that could be Tim doing the high harmonies as well as Peter's layers.
I like that you are not pausing and inturrupting with banal commentary. Love it when others love these beautiful voices.

A lot of people first discover both Peter and Tim with this song.

This is the only thing that has ever given me ASMR tinkles.
Thank you :) haha yea it’s supposed to be a globe. Still need to work on that or find something more fitting
ALL harmonies were done by these guys.
Check out “The Parting Glass” by Peter Hollens!
Thanks Rosalie!
Would love your reaction to another epic Acapella song... Voiceplay, doing
"The Dragonborn Comes", featuring Omar Cardona.
Unreal.
@Rosalie Elliott
I know this video is a year old, but I just ran across it now.
Geoff's Castellucci has a version too. Worth your time.
I struggle with this song, because the absolute talent can't be denied yet I keep thinking 'okay, pick it up a little' so maybe this genre is just not for me. Which is a shame, because I do love their voices.
♥️
Greensleeves is one of my favorites of theirs.
LOve your reaction to this masterpiece Rosalie. This is my favorite version of the song. My first time hearing Peter was in this video with Lindsey Sterling doing Skyrim - awesome vocal - ua-cam.com/video/BSLPH9d-jsI/v-deo.html .
If you want to hear something really special, I'd recommend:
1 - "Baba Yetu" Peter Hollens and Malukah sing this Swahili (?) version of 'The Lords Prayer.' It's much better as a song than it ever was as a prayer.
Rosalie, you really should check Peter Hollens out. He has a very high range of voco's.
I don’t know if you’ve already reacted to them yet, but you should give “The Hound + The Fox” a try. Chance also from Home Free sings with them often.
No thank you for your reactions and commentary. I found your channel because of Nightwish but subscribed because of your positive attitude and willingness to explore different types of music. By the way zoning out and losing track of time and place is a reaction and a great song like this one will do that to you.
The two of them do a great cover of Greensleeves.
I don't need you to pay attention to us. I love that you love music as much as I do
the really high note was Peter's wife, also a professional singer
Peter hollers has done a few song with Tim and with home free
were those high harmonies Peter?, #$%! yea they were.
If you want to hear the versatility of Tim's voice sheck out Peter Hollens w/Tim Foust Greensleeves

Hi. More chills available from the Club for Five version of ”Brothers in Arms.” Check it out. ❤
You have to check out Geoff Castellucci’s cover of this song.
Rosalie you should listen to this song sang by a guy by the name Geoff Castellucci he is so good. He sings this song so much better.
FYI they were not on the same continent they were Thousand miles apart
