- Corruption, or sleaze if you like, has no season. It is the subject of TV debates every day, with news channels flashing reports of sensational raids and arrests as breaking news. When the message of the ‘India Against Corruption’ movement reverberated across the country in 2011-12, one had a lurking hope that, after all, the Indian society was all set to fight this evil. But alas! The movement petered out, and it was business as usual.

Lokpal is not the answer to corruption. Every institution should have internal mechanism to check corruption. We need to build credible institutions instead of appointing new kinds of personnel.

Can't say whether I should laugh at myself or bang my head on the wall as I also participated in his IAC movement. But it would be good if some media person went and took his interview now.

Remember arguing with my professor that the so-called anti-graft was a sham. Corruption was oversimplified, there was no proper delineation of a plan, just noise and tamasha. They were all in it for themselves not the country.
Those (in IAC or supported IAC) who are still opposing the central government are the ones fighting against corruption (now communalism) and rest were RSS sanghis who just wanted their people in government.

Today in every department corruption is high people are very depressed with government approvals and officials.
We the people are corrupt, the reason the departments are corrupt. Just talk to common people in rural area, you get the answer that a politician has spent money to get elected, what is the problem if he takes bribe. They are also comfortable in paying bribes and by extension of the logic will expect bribes for action from their part.

And so it goes on. Hard for an honest person with minimal resources to break through in this situation. I've always believed that everything that went before 2014 was planned in 2010 with Business Houses and Media Houses actively participating in it.
I remember students in my college (Datta Meghe) dressed as jokers in white to support the movement. I had wore black to protest the protest. It was led by politicians' children plus some builders.
Sir you broke my heart. IAC was supported whole heartedly by students and other normal citizens who never had any political ambitions.

It became clear after the first few months when public donations to IAC were misused for AAP. Kejriwal is an excellent manipulator of people (Anna Hazare) and public and is a very successful politician.

For me it was from day one a scripted and funded story, the UPA couldn’t get it right and panicked, the so called IAC was all wanted their pound of flesh, they were promised most of them have got it in some way or the other, Kejriwal is the only twist like a thriller movie, rest everyone including Anna had their own expectations, all IAC e members were compensated in some way or the other.
There are 3 facets to the IAC movement:
1. For the first time general public was made aware of how corrupt and opaque our govts can become, and a reminder that they have a voice and must participate.
2. RSS/BJP silently supported IAC and took benefit of it and leveraged this movement to introduce their toxic rule in Center.
3. AAP, the offshoot of the IAC movement, is still working on delivering what the people expected as the outcome of IAC, which is good governance (it is the only political party today that has the will and capability to drive India's politics on the track of good governance, only thing lacking man power and money which BJP and Cong have.)
Also, there were 2 possibilities for Indian Politics ahead of IAC Movement and both are currently playing out:
1. Good Governance - AAP, no matter how small a party, has pulled down the giants like BJP and Cong to their knees and successfully driven constructive agendas.
2. Bad Governance - BJP's hatred, communal, crony capitalistic ideologies has been seeded deeper into Indian Politics after IAC.
There cant be a third party in politics. Third party is no way B team for a. Successor ..ie ruling party....B team cant become ruling party if it is not get alliance. With OPPN party.
Kiran Bedi…..seem to have become the most corrupt lady after entering into politics. She did not do justice to her job also….like any other BJP Governor she was worse than them it appears. I was Actualy taking her as my Role Model when she was a IPS Officer…… so corruption is a part of Politicians & Bureaucrats Anna hass😅are is another entrust. You have summed up well. But please don't hesitate to admit that this is not without biases.
First IAC was financed by Sanghis. Anna was a puppet but a well paid for that matter.
Arvind dislodged him and took charge of the finances.
AAP was created. His brief was to work independently and back Sanghis silently in a circuitous way.
His performance was commendable. Suddenly he has declared independence but more importantly hit below the belt. Understandably will be reigned in due course of time.
Incidentally, TMC was created by Bajpayeeji to counter CPIM. The objective was achieved. Like Arvind, she also declared independence. Now see her conditions. She has totally surrendered, and is approaching the Big Boss through Orissa for pardon.
I feel sorry for those true people who believed in the movement. Used to read stories of people leaving their posh jobs and joining the movement. Even I was getting swayed in that direction. Thank God, saner sense prevailed.
IAC had BJP, Modi and RSS backing to discredit the then UPA government and smoothen their own assent to power in the 2014 election. Arvind kejriwal, Anna hazare and few others fell for the trap thinking that the euphoria was genuine to a unreasonable degree.

If BJP comes back to power in 2024 elections, then what would be the future of India ? Which is better, an experienced/big thief or a new/small thief ? When BJP rose to power in 2014, we knew that small thief has won. But now after 9 years of reign (leave aside Vajpayee Ji's tenure) BJP still behaves like a new thief. During 2024-29 how do you visualise the rule of BJP, if they win in 2024 ? If Congress is part of ruling alliance post 2024, then will that be better for India ? The then congress government seemed to have lacked the maturity to handle the movement. The representatives were cold shouldered when they were called for a meeting. Kapil Sibal had challenged the movement to form their own political party to rid the country of corruption. Although Hazare was against the idea, Kajriwal took up the challenge. The problem however is that it has remained a one man show. The need to induct some tall leaders.

The buzz on Anna Hazare reached the US in 2012. I heard there was overwhelming support to Anna from the people of India at that time. That shows the desperation of the people for a simple and honest person in public life. The movement of Anna fizzled out for reasons not known to me but an honest person who is not for sale is hard to find in a nation of 1.4 billion people.
