This was absolutely fantastic. This is literally THE clearest, best demonstration I have EVER SEEN, out of the dozens I have looked at explaining how to do something in Photoshop!
A big thank-you - I've watched many videos, both via UA-cam and Online Learning and this is the first time the explanation of layer masks has made sense to me. The dialogue around the 1:45 mark really resonated with me to the point of 'hallelujah, finally I get it!' What has bambozzled me all this time is the term 'mask'. Masks go in front of something to hide it. I now think of a layer mask as a foundation to the image. Just like a normal set of paints, the best thing to use is white paper to bring out all the colours. Where there is no paper, represented by black, there is no colour because the paint has nothing to sit on. The transition from paper to no paper is represented by the gradient going from white paper ( full colour ) to no paper ( no colour, black) My very rudimentary photoshopping skills have just made a quantum jump. All thanks to you Martin. All the best to you and your endeavours.
Nicely done. Thank you. Very clear explanations reinforced with the practical. Love it. Simple things such as adding colour to a layer you balance clarity and speed nicely creating a good learning experience. Thank you
This must be a PS 2023 tutorial because my set up does not look like that. We don't get the gradient bar on the image nor do we get the gradient options to the right
I have 2 images that I loaded into a stack from scripts command. One is a flag which is my background. The other is a graphic layered on top. I want to fade out the flag so that it is not so prominent. How do I accomplish this? Thanks
The problem is , how to show the exported png image like this one in windows 11 photo viewer? The transparency will convert to white!! , annoying me , & Facebook also do the same fault , only paint brush program shows the real transparency of this png , is there away to solve this situation please?
I gotta agree here man - everyone speaks to the audience like 100% of the people have some amazing grasp of photoshop already. I'd have to imagine that applying a gradient is a basic enough function, that most people seeking this information are extremely beginner level. Meanwhile, dude is over here like "use the braket keys to...", news flash - I have no clue wtf a "braket key" is....
Why does mine export and fade to black. I cannot for the life of me understand WHY the process is to select 2 colors. I want 1. THE COLORS IN THE IMAGE to fade into 2.FKG TRANSPARENT (WHICH IS NOT A COLOR LOL JFC)

You cannot use png on FB. They will convert it to jpg. File>export>png on Photoshop.
Please help, with the brush one instead of painting a transparent it removes the transparency, doing it the other way around huhu
gradient controls is missing
You drew this out wayy too much xD
someone plz make a proper tutorial on actualy how to make the gradient. everyone just assumes we know everything
I mean, I’m pretty sure if you watch at the 2min mark I explain how to make one. Where do you trip up?

Thank you, but this was a mask tutorial, I don't think it has much to do with how to make transparent
masking fades to transparent, that's how you should do it
