This is one of the best speeches of all time...Dame Julie Andrews is a world treasure ❤️❤️❤️
So, so gracious! She is beautiful inside and out. What a marvelous career she has had. A blessing to all of us to have been able to watch and hear her all these years!
Yea ..right up there with the Gettysburg adress and the Sermon on the Mount.🤣🤣🤣....now let's not get carried away as Mary Poppins would say ..😉
Amen to that. Congratulations to Dame Julie Andrews. It's about time.
AMEN!!!
From what I heard that wasn’t even the whole speech. There was quite a bit more.
She's the personification of an elegant woman, with grace, dignity, femininity, class, and elegance.
Will Smith, take note
She's also funny as hell.
In a word, royalty.
"The Unsung Heroes of Movie Making.." A truly beautiful acceptance speech from a legend! 👏
To the crews of films, best boys and grips alike.
One of the classiest acceptance speeches I've ever heard. Articulate, heartfelt, and humble. Young aspiring actors of today would do well to be reminded of those shoulders they stand on, the editors, special.effects, sound, music, lighting, etc..Julie reminded her peers to stay humble and appreciative. God Bless her!
A goddess we love 😍 😍 😍 an amazing artist because she's more than an actress
Lol
Speaking of humble I live in a small country town in Tasmania Australia and in the local (not even city) newspaper called 'Seniors', the lovely Jane Seymour provided an interview. Thar is incredibly humble and modest. It would seem that Julie's generosity and humility influenced others. What a shame that so many of today's young movie stars are so much the opposite. These ladies besides talent had and have grace and inner beauty. May they always be with us in spirit.
Jada, Will, take very clear note
very true! She knows what it takes to make the actor and actresses shine by the amount of people who work behind the scenes and bless her for paying attention to that. God bless, Julie. You'r a classy lady.
I don't know why but I got teary eyed when Carol Burnett said "oh chum. Time for your moment". She was so happy for her friend and it just made me so happy
and when julie andrews says, "oh, my chum!" when carol is called back to the stage...so, so sweet.
Same. Immediate tears!
86 years old and still the same Julie. Talent. Humility. Generosity. Think of the tens of millions of people, worldwide, she has given joy to.
She is a class of her own. I missed and sad when she lost her beautiful voice....
She is so modest. She is winning an award, but her whole speech gives credit and thanks to everyone else. She is truly wonderful.
Dame Julie never lets us down. She’s now an old lady, still beautiful, still refined, still with her perfect diction, and unlike most actors or most anyone and certainly most anyone up there in years, when asked to say a few words, she can stand and deliver an impeccably word perfect speech and not one word about herself but words of heartfelt gratitude about everybody else who’s been behind her career, the folk we don’t know. She is the definition of Englishness, she is class personified and rightly an icon and a legend.
Beautifully put Tom x
Julie Andrews just spent the entire show having people worship her and glorify her for everything she did. I think about all these poor suffering people in Ukraine who are fighting for their lives living in misery, starving, with no electricity in the ravages of War, who are helpless, relocated and Julie's up there getting worshiped and pampered and having all these pampered greedy self indulgent people in this audience doing positively nothing in life. It is the most disgusting thing to watch. The people who are truly gracious and great are those people who are suffering horribly in the ravages of War, and and get no awards and no credit for it. The amount of awards and Glory and self worship these celebrity people have is the most horrifying thing to watch. I work with the charitable places that have to help people that are totally in need, and none of these people in this audience, including Julie Andrews, has ever experienced anything like that. They don't help anyone but themselves. During the course of Julie Andrews career she actually did a lot of very immoral things in her movies which were very detrimental to her image. Blake Edwards did the worst movies and Julie actually thought that exposing private parts of the body and doing sexual innuendos in movies was actually fine, so she's not a lady at all. It's so disgusting watching these celebrities glorify each other when they have never experienced any kind of real suffering or endurance where they had to lose everything, where their families were destroyed, where they were starving, with no utilities and being relocated, such as Ukraine is experiencing. Where are the people of Ukraine's awards?
@Tom Moncrieff: Well said! Amen!!!
@@laurasmith7976 Thank you for sharing. By the way , Julie Andrews lived in Britain during WWII. Truth is you do not know what her personal experience of war was.My mom too, grew up hiding from bombs and trying not to starve as a child. Julie Andrews has given her a great deal of pleasure. Going to see her films lightened some of her cares. Wonderful This was not an evening to laud a cure for cancer or the end of war. It was just an evening to celebrate someone who brought a lot of pleasure to people with her talent. Yes there are a lot of selfish, shallow, vacuous people in Hollywood. The truth holds for Sacramento, Washington, Ukraine and Russia as well. It is a good thing to take a little break from the tragic lives we witness on the news from the safety of our homes. to enjoy someone who grew up in war and actually use her talents to bring pleasure to millions.
May the same be said of us. We don"t have to be a legend in our own minds. We can jusr make the people around glad for having known us. Take care.
@@SusanLynch-cu4yp ,The point I was trying to make is that people in the movies are doing it all for glorification for themselves. They get awards, a ton of money and idol worship which is ridiculous. The people out there in the fields that are selflessly helping get nothing. I work in the charities to help people in wars and they don't get anything and they're living in drudgery. To have a night where you're all dressed up having the best of food and glorification at a very pompous event is sickening to watch.
It's almost impossible to believe this astonishingly talented woman began her career in the 1940s.
Very, VERY rarely do you hear someone of that stature talk about and compliment all the hundreds (and sometimes thousands) of people who work on a film to bring it to life. What a class act!! 👍👍
Are you kidding? That's basically every speech ever lol
@@SugarRayOPrey No. You should really listen to what she said.
She is grace personified.
Julie Andrews is magical and there will never be another like her
Can we please clone her??? 😍 💟
Agree
True.
She LITERALLY is Mary Poppins: Practically Perfect in Every Way.
What a generous soul she is. The acceptance speech time allocated was used to highlight others. God bless you Julie. You deserve it!
Perhaps the best speech in the history of the entertainment industry.
This is so long overdue. Dame Julie Andrews, it's AFI's honor to honor you.
Even today, Dame Julie Andrews is humble and shared her award with everyone.
Julie Andrews has the wisdom of a Saint. Such humble gratitude! Many actors need to take heed of her wisdom. What a beautiful soul.
That is what i wnated to say thanks you friend
her diction is crystal clear! A voice I've 'known' forever. TYDJA
Julie Andrews and The Sound of Music have AWAYS been my all time favorite performer and movie. I’ve seen this movie and other forms of live theater if this story and it NEVER GETS OLD and always brings tears. What a gracious and talented lady!
Julie is practically perfect in every way
(read this with a British accent, please)
Awesomely said 😁
Take to Julie to have a night dedicated to her career and use her speech to thank other people for their contributions. This, right there, is why she is maybe one of the most beloved stars in the world, and has always been my favorite
SO INCREDIBLE! Amazing to hear that she says "go home safe..." as she does at the end of her stunning concerts all over the world. I also noticed her kissing Jane from Poppins. If Michael Banks was still around, he would have been here too, he left us too soon. May Julie be blessed with many, many more years of great health and opportunities for us to keep seeing her.
I didn't notice Karen Dotrice there! Yet another wonderful excuse to rewatch all the clips from this event over and over again!
I Just love her so much. She's so humble and thoughtful. She's The Best!
Julie Andrews is 86 and my Mother is just a year older now, and The Sound of Music is in my Mother's list of most beloved movies, and I share in the love of them. Thank you Julie Andrews and thank you Mom for the love and magic that continues to be with me/us now. As Julie said, it's not just one person, but a collaborative effort which brings magic and joy into our lives. That sincerely goes to my family and our collective love, and movies we all cherish. BIG LOVE! ♥♥♥♥♥
I've always loved Dame Julie Andrew such is a beautiful classy lady so down to earth as you heard from that speech that came from the heart. She is so talented as we even saw from here diverse career as she gave a brilliant performance in Victor Victoria.
Great to hear someone not talking about themselves the whole time!
Well folks, what you've just heard and seen, is called "dignity". And decency. Rare qualities indeed, nowadays.
From the simple, elegant gown to the amazingly dignified speech -- wow, they just don't make them like that anymore!
i'm literally tearing up. she deserves this so much!! she is a treasure and we must protect her at all cost
It is impossible not to fall in love for Julie Andrews ❤
There is and always shall be only one Julie Andrews. Seeing her warm embrace with her lifelong friend and sometimes collaborator, Carol Burnett, made my week. Ms. Andrews is pure movie-making magic.
She is and has always been a Class Act. Congratulations Dame Andrews, so very well deserved.
HUMBLE SPEECH!!!!!
They don’t make them like they use to!!!
If only I could give this video a million likes with just one click, I would. Julie Andrews is a gem that has long been discovered but still amazes people every time she appears on print, TV, and films. I'm a fan, forever!
What a treasure she is. Genuine. Humble. And talent unlimited.
Such grace, humility and elegance. Long live the Queen
She is indeed graceful and humble even after accomplishing such amazing feats. She deserves this long overdue achievement award !
One of if not the greatest, appreciative, and respectful speeches ever made by a film star!! No political statement,no forcing an agenda, no violence and one showing how grateful she was for those that helped her become the golden shining star she is!!
Thank you Dame Julie Andrews for showing how it should be done!
HOW DID I MISS THIS?!?!?! I HADN'T HEARD ANYTHING ABOUT IT, I'M SO UPSET!!!
I'm so thrilled to see this wonderful person receive this award, she is truly deserving of it!!! LONG LIVE DAME JULIE ANDREWS 👑💖
A more than deserved award to this wonderful actress , singer and above all , an exemplary human being! Congratulations and many blessings !
This literally brought tears to my eyes. She is so kind.
What true words said besides , actors people behind the scenes count to put film together
I loved Julie Andrews ever since I saw the Sound of Music in 1964 with my mother and cousin Barbara. It was one of my best memories to this day. Both my mother and cousin are now passed but we watched every Julie Andrews movie after that, Thank you Julie Andrews!
In spite of her legendary status, she is always humble enough to thank other people. I love her humility.
Class act down to her bone marrow. So many could learn from this legend.
Pure Class! That’s Dame Julie Andrews. 😍 #icon #legend
Her speech was perfect. She's perfection. Class and beauty. Now I'm going to have a Julie Andrews movie marathon!!!
how can you NOT be in love with Julie Andrews!
I love this women! She's so humble, sweet and kind, and I love how she made her speech not about herself, but about the important people behind the movies that we love, that just shows what a sweet, kind-hearted person she is. I hope I get to meet her one day, it would be an honor. Congratulations Julie, you deserve this! 💖👑
Such a classy legend. Why is it that there were very few recognizable celebrities there?
An absolute classic act.
I was a 9 yr old boy who of course would not watch The Sound of Music with my sister and mom - have loved it and musicals since and shared that love with my daughter, and we sing along to Climb every mountain and lots of others. Dame Julie Andrews - one of the few remaining legends. Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious 🙂
So wonderful to see Julie she is. A treasure to us all❤️
Such class... everything she does is truly pure class.
What a class act she is. Her humility, grace, beauty and heart are still going strong after all these years. So refreshing to see someone who knows that her success, her fame and her achievements aren't only about her. G-d bless you Dame Julie Andrews, the joy and pleasure you've given to generations will live forever.
Dame Julie Andrews is an global treasure and true classy lady, receiving a well deserved honor. Her speech honoring the crews and casts she has worked with over the years shows what a class act she truly is.
I adore this woman!!! Fiiiiinaaaaallllyyyy!!!! 🥰 And Jane Seymour is also one of the greatest!
Classy lady. A well-deserved accolade. Thank you, Dame Julie, for all the great memories.
The picture of class and elegance. The epitome of selflessness. An international treasure. Tears well deserved.
I too greatly admire this remarkable woman, from her incredible singing voice to her ageless class. The “Sound of Music” is still my favorite movie and still contains the most beautiful love scene ever recorded - no vulgarity - no sex - and not a word spoken. And I know most of you know of which I am speaking. The magnificent Austrian folk dance between Maria and the Captain. That was cinematic magic!
She's like a 2nd Mother to me, as my real one was busy putting food on the table for the 4 of us as a single parent _Bless you Mom_
My Mom would have rented video tapes of movies for our entertainment and some of them are the work of Mz Julie Andrews. I was captivated by her grace from the 1st moment I saw her in Sound of Music
From her I learn eloquence, etiquette, humility, and as we see here, selflessness. I see no flaw in her as an artist and a person. How grateful I am to Allah for creating such a beautiful and wonderful human being.
I've always wanted to say "Thank you" to her for being in my life. Not just as a passing through character on screen, but as a name I highly respect and appreciate. You have represented me in doing so by this Lifetime Achievement Award, AFI. And for that I thank you so much.
That's such a beautiful story 💛
I cried through her speech. She's so precious and has such a generous heart.
What an amazingly gracious speech. Thank you, Dame Julie. No wonder so many love you!
Dame Julie Andrews, the very embodiment of class, elegance, grace, eloquence, humility and charm. What an everlasting beautiful lady she has always remained. No one is more deserving, she's without a doubt an international treasure
God bless you, Dame Julie!
CLASS and grace ... thank you Julie.
Timeless icon, an evergreen beauty, a true class act. The one and only, the unparalleled Queen Julie Andrews. We're not worthy of her glorious reign, and long live Your Majesty of our silver screen!! Maria Von Trapp, Mary Poppins or Queen Clarice Renaldi, there's simply no replacement for this iconic performer indeed!!
A professional - she takes no glory for herself. I just love her.
The classiest lady in the entire world ❤️❤️❤️
The sheer elegance his woman has is astounding. A pure role model. I don’t know why I started to tear up when she spoke but I just know from how she spoke, she absolutely LOVES everyone. What a blessed soul. Truly an angel walking among us 🖤🖤🖤
She is beautiful and finally!! Well deserved. Love her.
Just goes to show her focus is not on herself but others. Gracious is what this lady personifies and sincerity and warmth. Pretty rare in Hollywood and all over. This was great.
I was a 6 yr old boy when my aunt took me to see Sound of Music (my most favorite movie of all time) next to Old Yeller!! To top it off, she bought me a hotdog sandwich, orange flavored Canada Dry and a chocolate covered ice cream bar. I will remember and cherish it till the day they put me 7 foot under. Julie has the crispest voice ever❤❤
My favorite movie of all time! Julie Andrews is an icon. What a voice!
Truly a class act. True story: when I was a child, my father used to rent us vhs videos every Friday night that we kept until Sunday. We always wanted the cool movies that were new, and while he did rent those for us, he did so with one requirement: we had to also rent a classic movie. So, we rented Bedknobs and Broomsticks, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Mary Poppins, My Fair Lady, The Absent Minded Professor, The Apple Dumpling Gang, The Nutty Professor, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory to name a few. But, the first movie in this genre that he got us was The Sound of Music. "Dad, this looks boring!" He'd say, "these are classics." He was right. I am estranged from my father now and have been since the day he left for good when I was 22 years old(I'll be 48 in a few weeks), but I'll always have the memories of Ms. Julie Andrews and the appreciation for her and others like her thanks to him.
What a class act. Thank you, Julie Andrews, for your wonderful contribution to this art form.
What a Dame! Very beautiful speaking of the unsung heroes of Film
Dame Julie Andrew’s is the epitome of grace. I was named after Julie Andrews and she has been someone I have admired since a child. She also looks like my godmother (my maternal aunt). What a well delivered acceptance speech. I’ve always thought of anything to do with the movies as an art form, so that was also fabulous to hear. I will be watching the rest of the award ceremony on the AFI UA-cam channel from here in Australia 🇦🇺 ❤️
"PRACTICALLY PERFECT IN EVERY WAY!!!"
So beautiful! ❤️ Julie Andrews, my absolute favourite! ❤️ The Sound of Music, my favourite movie, ever! I remember watching the movie so many times in my childhood, and to this day I remember almost all the words and lyrics ❤️ And Julie Andrews is one of the reasons I went on to pursue my Degrees in Music ❤️ And what she shared here is just so so beautiful! Truly, there is just so much talent that goes on behind the scenes and they are the unsung heroes, and just hearing her speak so thoughtfully made my heart warm - thank you Dear Julie for your heart of kindness, for admiring, respecting and honouring the unsung heroes of the movie industry (and I know it's the same in every industry), and I hope that one day more will be done to showcase, bring to the forefront and honour the dedicated crews who work harmoniously behind the scenes making things possible ❤️ Thank you for spreading the love ❤️
Wonderful speech coming from a real artist, a Lady, a Diva.
Dame Julie Andrews is totally not a Diva!
Actually I think my favorite movies with her were the "Eloise At The Plaza" and "Eloise at Christmas time" -- we see her humorous side as well as soft side.❤
This absolute golden lady, who better deserving. And to thank all those that don’t receive those awards, her character and grace is unparalleled.
What a speech! Julie Andrews: only one of a kind.
Practically perfect in every way.
Julie is a class act!!! Congrats to her!❤️
A beautiful, talented lady who is a true Dame! A class act from start to finish! I'm so happy she's received this award.
You'll never be as cool as Julie Andrews. Period.
Congratulations!
Mary Poppins, The Sound of Music, so many others…..wonderful times that I was entertained by this wonderful actress.
86 and still looks fresh beautiful as it looks 60 years ago.a true British national treasure ❤️

I echo all of the fabulous sentiments expressed here. You have touched so many lives with your grace and talents, Dame Julie....we all ❤ you!!!
Spot on Dame Julie, thank you for raising the flags for the unsung heroes. 💕 Congratulations.
On a night honoring her, she’s talking about the contributions of everyone else. What a beautiful, wonderful person.
Julie, I am so incredibly lucky to have lived during your lifetime to have had the benefit of the your talent, hearing your humble, beautiful speeches, watching your art, the movies. Thankyou, you are not only a phenominal entertainer but a beautiful human being. Thank you forever.
So much joy, so many happy memories she created for us all! Love You Julie🥰🥰🥰
This is CLASS. A great speech and thanking everyone involved in making movies happen besides the upfront stars. A true lovely lady. Love her and all things she starred in. No complaining nothing political. And wishing everyone to enjoy the evening. Love you Ms. Andrews from a long long time fan.
I should think so! A truly great person. In a business where it seems their genius and fame allows them to shelf-destruct, Julie Andrews has managed to stay steady!
The queen of us all delivering the best speech of them all. Gosh, I just love her. Hollywood is pretty much trash these days. I'm thankful that I got to live on the planet at the same time as this last-living legend. May she and Carol live well into their 100s because we simply can't do without them these days.
This brought tears to my eyes - Julie Andrews has been such a massive part of my childhood. Mary Poppins and especially The Sound Of Music mean so much to me. Couldn't be prouder or more grateful to Julie Andrews for all that she's done.
Very well said Ms. Julie Andrews! 👏👏👏
Your acknowledgment to those unsung heroes of this Art are surely happy for remembering their contribution and existence 👏👏👏
God bless you! 🙏🌹❤️
