One of the classiest acceptance speeches I've ever heard. Articulate, heartfelt, and humble. Young aspiring actors of today would do well to be reminded of those shoulders they stand on, the editors, special.effects, sound, music, lighting, etc..Julie reminded her peers to stay humble and appreciative. God Bless her!

Speaking of humble I live in a small country town in Tasmania Australia and in the local (not even city) newspaper called 'Seniors', the lovely Jane Seymour provided an interview. Thar is incredibly humble and modest. It would seem that Julie's generosity and humility influenced others. What a shame that so many of today's young movie stars are so much the opposite. These ladies besides talent had and have grace and inner beauty. May they always be with us in spirit.

Dame Julie never lets us down. She’s now an old lady, still beautiful, still refined, still with her perfect diction, and unlike most actors or most anyone and certainly most anyone up there in years, when asked to say a few words, she can stand and deliver an impeccably word perfect speech and not one word about herself but words of heartfelt gratitude about everybody else who’s been behind her career, the folk we don’t know. She is the definition of Englishness, she is class personified and rightly an icon and a legend.

Julie Andrews just spent the entire show having people worship her and glorify her for everything she did. I think about all these poor suffering people in Ukraine who are fighting for their lives living in misery, starving, with no electricity in the ravages of War, who are helpless, relocated and Julie's up there getting worshiped and pampered and having all these pampered greedy self indulgent people in this audience doing positively nothing in life. It is the most disgusting thing to watch. The people who are truly gracious and great are those people who are suffering horribly in the ravages of War, and and get no awards and no credit for it. The amount of awards and Glory and self worship these celebrity people have is the most horrifying thing to watch. I work with the charitable places that have to help people that are totally in need, and none of these people in this audience, including Julie Andrews, has ever experienced anything like that. They don't help anyone but themselves. During the course of Julie Andrews career she actually did a lot of very immoral things in her movies which were very detrimental to her image. Blake Edwards did the worst movies and Julie actually thought that exposing private parts of the body and doing sexual innuendos in movies was actually fine, so she's not a lady at all. It's so disgusting watching these celebrities glorify each other when they have never experienced any kind of real suffering or endurance where they had to lose everything, where their families were destroyed, where they were starving, with no utilities and being relocated, such as Ukraine is experiencing. Where are the people of Ukraine's awards?

@@laurasmith7976 Thank you for sharing. By the way , Julie Andrews lived in Britain during WWII. Truth is you do not know what her personal experience of war was.My mom too, grew up hiding from bombs and trying not to starve as a child. Julie Andrews has given her a great deal of pleasure. Going to see her films lightened some of her cares. Wonderful This was not an evening to laud a cure for cancer or the end of war. It was just an evening to celebrate someone who brought a lot of pleasure to people with her talent. Yes there are a lot of selfish, shallow, vacuous people in Hollywood. The truth holds for Sacramento, Washington, Ukraine and Russia as well. It is a good thing to take a little break from the tragic lives we witness on the news from the safety of our homes. to enjoy someone who grew up in war and actually use her talents to bring pleasure to millions.
May the same be said of us. We don"t have to be a legend in our own minds. We can jusr make the people around glad for having known us. Take care.

@@SusanLynch-cu4yp ,The point I was trying to make is that people in the movies are doing it all for glorification for themselves. They get awards, a ton of money and idol worship which is ridiculous. The people out there in the fields that are selflessly helping get nothing. I work in the charities to help people in wars and they don't get anything and they're living in drudgery. To have a night where you're all dressed up having the best of food and glorification at a very pompous event is sickening to watch.

Truly a class act. True story: when I was a child, my father used to rent us vhs videos every Friday night that we kept until Sunday. We always wanted the cool movies that were new, and while he did rent those for us, he did so with one requirement: we had to also rent a classic movie. So, we rented Bedknobs and Broomsticks, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Mary Poppins, My Fair Lady, The Absent Minded Professor, The Apple Dumpling Gang, The Nutty Professor, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory to name a few. But, the first movie in this genre that he got us was The Sound of Music. "Dad, this looks boring!" He'd say, "these are classics." He was right. I am estranged from my father now and have been since the day he left for good when I was 22 years old(I'll be 48 in a few weeks), but I'll always have the memories of Ms. Julie Andrews and the appreciation for her and others like her thanks to him.

Dame Julie Andrew’s is the epitome of grace. I was named after Julie Andrews and she has been someone I have admired since a child. She also looks like my godmother (my maternal aunt). What a well delivered acceptance speech. I’ve always thought of anything to do with the movies as an art form, so that was also fabulous to hear. I will be watching the rest of the award ceremony on the AFI UA-cam channel from here in Australia 🇦🇺 ❤️

So beautiful! ❤️ Julie Andrews, my absolute favourite! ❤️ The Sound of Music, my favourite movie, ever! I remember watching the movie so many times in my childhood, and to this day I remember almost all the words and lyrics ❤️ And Julie Andrews is one of the reasons I went on to pursue my Degrees in Music ❤️ And what she shared here is just so so beautiful! Truly, there is just so much talent that goes on behind the scenes and they are the unsung heroes, and just hearing her speak so thoughtfully made my heart warm - thank you Dear Julie for your heart of kindness, for admiring, respecting and honouring the unsung heroes of the movie industry (and I know it's the same in every industry), and I hope that one day more will be done to showcase, bring to the forefront and honour the dedicated crews who work harmoniously behind the scenes making things possible ❤️ Thank you for spreading the love ❤️

Actually I think my favorite movies with her were the "Eloise At The Plaza" and "Eloise at Christmas time" -- we see her humorous side as well as soft side.❤

I should think so! A truly great person. In a business where it seems their genius and fame allows them to shelf-destruct, Julie Andrews has managed to stay steady!

The queen of us all delivering the best speech of them all. Gosh, I just love her. Hollywood is pretty much trash these days. I'm thankful that I got to live on the planet at the same time as this last-living legend. May she and Carol live well into their 100s because we simply can't do without them these days.
