- Thanks PCBWay.com - Today, we're talking a look at FlappyMac, a brand new and incredibly fun game for vintage Macs, designed from scratch by the one-and-only @gruz !
This game should work on pretty much any vintage Mac, from PowerPCs down to black-and-white compact Macs. We'll even try it on a Mac Plus!

Watched this with a big smile on my face! Thanks again for having me on your awesome channel!
Well done on your release of an excellent game. A simple yet fun concept with huge attention to detail is the sign of a great developer! Bravo sir. I’m going to head over to your channel and sub.
This is great, and really brings me back to old favorites like those made by Duane Blehm and Jon Calhoun.
I was wondering the other day why there's no demoscene for early 68k macs. I know there's not a lot of low-level hardware access, but I've always wondered what a 68k assembly guru could make happen on those old machines. Your game is very impressive, even on the Plus!
Woo gruz
This is a great game! Thank you @gruz for making a modern game for our old Macs :)

"Just flap your bird through small openings"
Demonetized!
I only have one complaint…
how can’t we play as a flying toaster??
...Or maybe a G4 Cube? Whoops... No... my mistake, that would be FLOPpy Mac. 😉
@@whatevercm Yeah, that would be fun if all the heroes were Mac hardware. (I'll allow level 10 to be a flying toaster. haha) Would be interesting to play as an LC I/II/III, with proper hit box to trade height for width.
No need to crack Flappy Mac to unlock all the heroes. Hold down the Option key while launching the app to run in Cheat Mode. Bam! All heroes unlocked with no fuss or muss. The best part is the suggestive Best Score. ;)
Funny, I just tried this on my Mac SE before your video went online. It seems to be running faster on a 68000 machine if you're running system 6 instead of 7.
Never stop the no face flappy hand pointy gesticulation thing it’s flappin’ awesome!
"I would have never seen this, if it wasn't for that crack" I laughed so hard when I heard that line
@Gruz: You are way too humble! Kudos on Flappy Mac!
Flappy Mac is such a fun game. Thank you for the detailed video on it. Also cool that you got Gruz to jump into the video and do a deep dive on all things Flappy Mac and Macintosh game development in general.
I’ve been playing it on an SE with 4mb ram and system 7.1, and I think it’s been playing really well. I don’t notice much slowdown
Oooh. I really like this! Please make more videos on games for old macs!
Crazy to see that running on a Mac Plus!
I love when a new action retro video comes out
Sorry to be pedantic but "flappy" style games didn't originate on the smart phone. The "helicopter game" was a flash game that came out almost 10 years before flappy bird. It's basically the same thing, except the gaps and obstacles are flipped. I'd be surprised if there also wasn't some earlier desktop/console game that was similar. Still a fun genre and a great idea as game for older macs.
Hey! I didn't see the link to that awesome crack in the video description! Thanks for the shout out and showing how to use the crack.
Oh whoops! 😅 Added!
Very cool to see a new game through and through from the ground up. I had some early attempts at writing games in HyperCard and then graphical text adventures in something like WorldBuilder (it was a newer engine though) but I never got very far. I had a game that wasn't even finished get on a MacAddict CD-ROM because how I could I say no when they asked? Maybe I need to go back and finish it if I can track down my source files.
that's so cool, vintage macs have designs that could be so cool for arcade machines :D
hey its Gruz! good to see you guys collaborate! :)
I never imagined the day where I would hear my Mac SE grunt like Tim Taylor.
I cant believe that I've been watching for a year!
12:20 that laugh though.
I really should get around to putting the logic board back in my SE/30 after its recap. Unfortunately the SE/30 is packed away in its vintage carry case, on the bottom shelf behind a pile of other vintage computers, parts and storage tubs. Not easily accessible.
But I'm happy to support game development for vintage machines, so I bought a digital copy anyway! :)
Old macs give me wings!
Sean You got Me Addicted I will have to get me A copy
We all know that PCB stands for Pretty Cool Bird, no? ;)
This game is good for one button games for old 8-bit computers witch Joysticks XD
now i need flappy windows
@Action Retro. Where can I get that wallpaper that appears at 4:11 in the video?
"Drat!"
Why only system 6 and 7
I was looking at buying a physical copy after seeing Mac84's livestream, and now they are sold out.
What is the game at 7:03
"Flappy-Fancy-Hand"-Character as an Easter-Egg?
Impressive. Also, weird seeing a face on this channel nowadays :)
I thought it was going to be some beautiful adventure game that really captured the spirit of what people were playing at the time. Nope, flappy bird ._.
but... it's called _Flappy_ Mac
Hey not sure if you saw my comment a couple videos back, but I have a twentieth anniversary Mac if you're interested.
omg
ok pero retira la mano cuando muestres los dos macs al final...
We’re all wondering what happened to your finger
😂 The computer bit me
@@ActionRetro Lemee guess...you were trying to open up a Power Macintosh 8100, right?
@@ActionRetro ah, a blood sacrifice to the computer gods :)
The Game Boy Advance version is better 😅 ...
