- You've probably seen these over on the clock app (unless you don't use that app of course) but since I am now chronically afraid of that app going down, I wanted to preserve these silly videos somewhere that isn't currently under threat! Also, it's nice to have them all in order and not separate. Kind of like a nice little Vine compilation (RIP Vine I miss you every day)
Anyway yeah somehow during stream the conversation topic turned to the Ghost Stories dub and I got to witness first hand just how out of pocket that show was via a bunch of contextless clips xD AND THEN it was just a one and done thing, until the first reaction went viral on Tiktok and that reminded Ris that there were several other funny clips I needed to see lol
I am not normally a "react-tuber" but here we are xD These are (probably) most of the best clips from the show that don't feature certain bad words or tasteless jokes! I hope you enjoy watching me lose my mind!!

If you're curious, the original Japanese version of Ghost Stories did JUST well enough during the initial anime boom of the early 2000's that the originals owners thought "maybe this will do well in the states. They like their monster of the week stuff." So, they sold the rights to the show to the company that localized it in the states. Them getting this show came with two conditions. 1: you can't change the name of any of the characters. 2: you can't change how any of the ghosts are banished. As you can see, this didn't stop them much. They realized that there was no chance of this show recouping it's costs, so they just decided to turn it into a shitpost, and as a result, we have the only series that got an official abridge treatment. You honestly really should watch the whole series. It's only 15 episodes, and after episode 5, you're in such a state of disbelief that it goes by FAST. (Side note, the rabbit episode is my favorite. The "not because you're a rabbit, but because your black" line almost made me pass out I was laughing so hard the first time I saw it.)
This is actually pretty much made up completely. It's a popular story the dub team used to protect themselves, but the show did INCREDIBLY well with an average of 12.5% viewers (Pokemon is 12.6% at the time). Love the dub for the extreme piece of shit it is (in a good way I think), but also loved the original. Putting this out there so this made up story dissapears from the "facts" people say about this anime.
@@darkm007 that has to be one of the most memetic and widespread misinformations about Anime out there ma. It took YEARS of knowing about the Show to hear anyone talk about this. Love the Dub to bits as well, even tho knowing that the supposed funny story of its creation isnt actually true did sour the feelings somewhat. Its still a fucking riot tho^^
There was a fair amount of alcohol involved….i recall them saying that the entire series was done in one day, it was easy since there wasn’t much in the line of retakes.
But you can tell how their filter degrades as the series goes on. In the later episodes they have no filter and are outright cussing
I love how the actors were allowed to just go wild with the voice lines XD
I heard they had competitions to see who could be the most offensive and whoever got to the studio first got to pick the overall story beats for that particular episode.
Idk why, but my favorite joke in the whole show is the episode with the Blood Stained Lake, where the girl screams every time someone says the name "Blood Stained Lake" even if she isn't anywhere in the scene. Lmao
This series is magical.
Probably the worst part is some of these are actual relevant plot points,
But you'd never know it if you only watched the clips.

When I was watching this series, I thought that the voice actor sounded close to Ian Sinclair, but come to find out, it isn't him. Apparently, it's by a guy named Rob Mungle. And yet, it sounds kinda close... 😂

You really need to watch whole episodes. They tie the jokes back into the plot and some how it make sense. The lesbian school principal joke is one of the best ones.😂😂😂

The short version of how this ended up with one of the funniest dubs is as follows: The show BOMBed hard in Japan, now when they sell shows to for syndication they don't sell one show, they do packages, basically you ant Pokemon? You gotta take these garbage Anime as well, it's all or nothing.
This meant they had a known stinker on their hands but wanted to recoop some of the $$$ they were forced to spend, so they gave the VA's Carte Blanche to do it as they wanted.
So the VA's would get drunk and have a rule, whomever got into the booth first, SET THE TONE for that episode. So if you watch the Episodes some are really messed up as a couple of the VA's were either really drunk or just really want to Troll the other VA's.
So yeah, that's pretty much the short version of Ghost Stories Hilarious VA.
PS: I said Pokemon as an EXAMPOLE of a good Anime that companies wanted to get for syndication, I have No f**ken clue what Ghost Stories was packaged with, I just know how the industry works and used Pokemon as an example... don't um achtually me...

It's a good watch, though it kind of runs out of steam a bit in the last third of the episodes. I think the novelty of the situation kind of wore off a bit for the VAs at that point and they just wanted to get the thing out the door.

I don't know how true it is, but the story goes that this show did so terribly in japan that when it came time to localize it, they basically said "fuck it, do whatever you want". And that they did
@@CJ-mk3nf The show actually did great in Japan. I don't really know off the top of my head exactly why this dub was able to just do whatever it wanted but I think it might have had to do with how the company that dubbed it received it as a bonus in a large bundle of anime rights they had bought to dub and that Ghost Stories being a bonus they just decided to do whatever with it.

@@TormalineI heard it was "mediocre" like it just barely did well enough there to make them think it would be good idea to buy it but then they actually looked at it and decided that there was no way it would be successful enough to make the money back which is when they basically said "hey just do whatever you can to sell this to as many people as possible" which they took as "hey do whatever tf you want"
