The king and Queen live very near these pictures in Tetbury. The king spends as much time as possible there.
Went touring camping and walking around Burton on water & Upper and Lower slaughter area 😍 visiting ancient site's and houses in the hot summer sun was a fantastic experience. Stayed in Bath 😍 and visited my favourite place, a Roman villa and farm called Chedworth Roman Villa, very atmospheric feeling walking around the buildings.
PS. Sir Rannolf Fiennes was annoyed by the film crew damming the river in Castle Coombe so since he was, as you'd say Natasha, "a bad ass" in the SAS he blew it up with explosives he had laying around. He was kicked out the army and became an explorer, mountaineer and legend. Look up his interviews on his life.
19:22 This is why we all say to get out of London and see areas like this. Note. The Slaughters are best walked around after the tourist coach trips have left 6pm onwards on a sunny summers evening when the setting sun set's the stone afire. Empty and stunning.

Many decommissioned phone boxes, in rural areas have been repurposed as Defibrillator Stations. Communities raise a proportion of the cost (a charity meets the rest) and create a list of locals who are contacted when the device is activated; the nearest paramedics are contacted too. The community maintains the space and the red paintwork (British Telecom provides the paint!).
And some get made into mini libraries or toy swap stations as well 🥰
Of course you can get coffee in a tea room, usually better than the major coffee shop
Although not in the Cotswolds,the Malvern hills is about 20 miles away,including WORCESTER and surrounding villages.The birthplace of EDWARD ELGAR is nearby and the scenery is beautiful especially in the Summer

In Britain we drink 92million cups of coffee a day. We don't all drink tea. Of course nobody would say anything to you.
I live in Stratford upon Avon. 20 minutes from the Cotswolds. It’s stunning. I’m so lucky to be surrounded by such beauty.
Coffee was the national drink before tea. It's available and acceptable everywhere.
I think it is possible that it has become, or is becoming, the favourite again. Not with me however as I am the proverbial 'tea pot'. If I do drink coffee though, I like it to be a proper fresh ground, coffee, not instant.
G'day There!When I lived for a few years in England I was thrilled to get to the Cotswolds and while they were just gorgeousI soon learned from a close friend that a little north is the Malvern Hills unjust fell in love with that area! It has many charming villages like the Cotswolds and spectacular scenic views but without the massive crowds of tourists...I highly recommend that you try to look at the Malver Hills area! Cheers!

@debbie8674 it's only a plane ride away, have a look at Avebury stones when you get a minute, predates Stonehenge, more accessible to the public & on both Solstices the place is full of 'like minded' people, magical atmosphere.

Me & my motorcycle on a ride through Biddestone, Castle Combe, Lacock & my home town of Corsham. Lacock dates back to the 14th century & the Abbey was founded in 1229, the Manor house at Corsham at the end was built in 1582.

Interesting fact that King Henry VIII fourth wife also survived Anne of Cleves (1515 - 1557) got a good divorce settlement from Henry VIII and one of her homes was Hever Castle former home of the Boleyn family.
This was lovely. You saw it in the colder months here in the UK. If you ever want to look at the scenery in late Summer check out the videos made by a young American couple, Ben and Rach. About to reach their 30th birthdays they decide to WALK the 102 mile Cotswold Way. Everything has been booked, all looks good but Rach gets blisters and a painful hip on the first or second day. The videos they make as they walk across the English Countryside are a joy to watch. As we hit Winter here it was uplifting to see a warmer weathered England again and to meet this delightful and engaging couple trek their way to Bath. I think you will be proud of your countrymen. The Cotswold Way footpath runs alongside the village where I live - walkers often divert through the village for a lunch break.

The most popular village for Americans to visit is Bourton-on-the-water, and not Far from upper and lower Slaughter, it is all beautiful the Cotswold Area, try and hit it in Summer as it does rain a lot in UK, you can stay in a city and visit the Cotswolds like Gloucester, Gloucester is originally Roman and called Glevum, it has a famous Cathedral and some of it was used in the Harry Potter film.
I once did some volunteer work to repair some dry stone wall in the Cotswolds and very rewarding to think it should still stand another 200 years before collapsing again and my future me comes and repairs it again, yes we do sometimes take it for granted, but that History seeps into your bones, and not only do you know where you came from but you know who you are and where your going to. Visiting the Cotswolds for Americans is a bit like visiting middle earth, lol.
I love Gloucester Cathedral.. Well worth a visit

funny you should do this now, I just finished watching a series of vlogs from an American couple who walked 'The Costwold Way': a trail that stretches over a hundred miles. They made 8 eps, filming earlier this summer. I think you might like them, very young, very keen on capturing the scenery. Yes, you can get coffee in tea rooms. My preference also.
In areas with historic houses and picturesque old buildings, they are usually stylishly decorated over Christmas, no brash OTT lights. Usually seeing decorations and lighting from inside the house is what you see. Also in these 'heritage' areas there are restrictions to maintain authentic and picturesque vibe. There's a subtle blend of traditional with contemporary decor which enhances the whole magical experience.
My son lives in Bibury. Needless to say, he has a regular visitor !
I'm so lucky to live in the Cotswolds, just a few miles from Tetbury. Princess Anne lives just outside our village and you can see part of her estate from my garden.
The red phone boxes are often turned into libraries but in our village it's been repurposed to house a defibrillator. The model village in Bourton also has a tiny model village in it, and I think that has an even tinier model village inside - it's also the only Grade II listed model in England.
You can definitely drink coffee in a tea shop - but you might not get a wide range of different types of coffees/lattes etc to choose from.
It's so beautiful here at Christmas but, depending on which part of the Cotswolds you visit, the higher parts often get snow and the steep, winding roads can be a bit treacherous in winter.

To answer Natasha's first question, yes, you can have coffee in a tea shop.
I once had the honour of working for a weekend at studley castle, back when I used to teach archery.
Every time I have visited Bourton on the Water, I always go to the model village, the toy and motor museum and any fantastic coffee shop on the main street. If you go in the summer, paddling barefoot in the clear shallow water is an absolute must 😊 It was the first place I ever visited a Real Ale pub and was so embarrassed when my husband ordered a pint of The Dogs Bollocks!! I kid you not 😂 It really is a wonderful place to visit in all seasons, I am so lucky to live just over an hour and a half away, so a glorious, easy day out. Btw Natasha, coffee is available everywhere so don't worry. Artisan coffee shops are abundant and well worth a visit. One of my favourite home destinations.

It's going to be tough deciding where you want to visit but I see a few places tugging away at those heart strings there. The little village they showed in Bourton on the Water is incredible.

Girls! Your suggestion of house swaping is feasible. There is an organisation that matches up people from different places & countries with accommodation for holiday purposes. The idea is to make great savings on accommodation and provide a comfortable base for exploring. I'm sure you have the wherewithal to find them online.
Cotswold stone is the toffee-coloured oolitic limestone, which was formed during the Jurassic era, ~145million years ago.
Natasha, although tea rooms might specialise in teas you can always get a coffee or a soft drink. Just like pubs, where nowadays nobody frowns if you order a soft drink.
I wouldn’t say tearooms specialise in tea. I imagine the ‘tea’ is a reference to afternoon tea because you can get a hot drink and something light to eat.
I've photographed weddings throughout the Cotswolds and this video is a great reminder of just how lovely it is here.
I love visiting my family, half are in the Cotswolds and the other half in the Peak District!!! Upper Slaughter is also famous for being a 'thankful village', they had no lives lost in WW1, there is a plaque in the village hall celebrating the return of all their service members.
I used to live in Worcester and spent many days in Broadway and the surrounding area, they have some really unusual chocolate shops and unique things to buy. One weekend in winter, I got snowed in at the Lygon Arms Hotel, and it was great. I now live in Spain, but I still miss that area I grew up in
My Dad worked at a bank in Broadway for a few years around the time I started school. We lived in Winchcombe, a lovely small town close to Sudeley Castle. Although we left the area before my tenth birthday, it still holds special memories for the unique atmosphere of the villages and countryside.
The views you see used to be called Chocolate Box views since in the Victorian era chocolate’s were sold in very ornately painted metal boxes with these sorts of views depicted, so you have chocolate box views! I definitely love visiting the villages around the Cotswolds with the strolls around and through each one!
I grew up on the southern edge of Birmingham so the Cotswolds was a very short drive away, the other places within easy reach for a day in the country were the Shropshire Hills, Malvern Hills and The Wye Valley which is the location of one of my favourite places Symonds Yat.
I spent my teens in the beautiful large town of Cheltenham, which is about a mile or two outside the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Much of the town has Regency architecture.
There are so many more villages, and in the rest of the country!
An omission from this list was Chedworth Roman Villa. This has quite a lot of remains, and is in a very beautiful bit. ( The Romans liked the Cotswolds too, and had a number of villa estates.)
I can't remember whether Cirencester (CORINIVM DOBVNNORUM) is in the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty or not. It certainly is a beautiful Cotswold town, with a large Parish Church, with England's first office block. ( A huge Church Porch, which was used for business.)
Cirencester was at one stage the second town in Roman Britain; there are remains of an amphitheatre, and many mosaics in the Corinium Museum.
I was lucky enough to be brought up near The Rollright Stones, Stow-on-the-Wold & Moreton-in-Marsh ….my ancestors have lived in that neck of the woods for at least 300 years so The Cotswolds are in my DNA. I now live near Castle Combe. The Cotswolds are just normal to me so it’s lovely to see your reaction. Christmas in The Cotswolds is lovely….damp and chilly…..but lovely!! Some houses put a few lights out…towns do a display normally. 🧡💚
I have been lucky enough to go to Burton on the Water and it is a beautiful part of the World. I just llove Debbie's excitement in thought of driving down every road! lol.
Seeing your reactions I am almost ashamed at how I take for granted everything is. My daily walk includes stone walled sheep, towers, cottages & a 1500ad cathedral. England has everything and I need to remember to appreciate it. Love you both and ur videos.

I was at Birdland Park last week, meeting up with relatives . It was cold!
One place I expected them to show was Laycock. This village is arguably the best in the Cotswolds and has been featured in many films and shows: Downton Abbey, Crawford, The White Princess and Harry Potter.
An additional reason for Natasha to go is Laycock Abbey. The home of William Henry Fox Talbot (is your mouth watering yet Natasha?). You can look out of the very window the first ever negative photograph was taken of. As you enter the Abbey grounds there is a converted barn with a small museum showing the history of photography.
Both the village and the Abbey are now under the control of the National Trust and so open to the public.
This is a must for you two.
I love walking the cloisters there.
The old pharmacy in Burford still has the traditional wooden drawers and shelves. You can go in to have a look - no entrance fee or purchase necessary. (I have a friend who lives in Burford and have been there many times. I have another friend who lives just a few miles south of Burford, down one of those narrow country lanes that would scare you rigid if you weren't used to them.)
There's a brilliant mockumentary series called 'This Country' that shows what life in a slightly boring Cotswold village/town is actually like. I grew up just down the road from where it's based, so I can confirm that it's very accurate to real life!
Sorry to be a pain, but Katherine Parr was not the only one of Henry VIII wives to out-live him, Anne of Cleves did too.
Is that tree real? 😂 England isn't a theme park dressed up to look old for paying visitors 😄... That's a 1500 year old yew tree that was probably a Pagan rituals site before the church was built next to it. That's usually the case in most church yards.

Bourton on the water is very picturesque but do not go in our school holidays! Especially in the summer, it is so busy it's like walking in a busy city on a week day.

You should take a look at this couple's vids -they are Texans but live on the edge of the Cotswolds six months of the year. They cover the area in detail, where to go and where and what to eat, and their videos are of amazing quality.
I drove through Moreton in Marsh when visiting Batsford Arboretum one autumn (hi - tree nut here!). It’s absolutely stunning in late October/early November which is peak time for colour here most years.
Westonbirt arboretum is good too a bit further west.

Natasha & Debbie, you could always get a job as house managers or house stewards in an old National Trust property in one of the villages . I think there are also some old National Trust cottages you can live in as tenants/ house managers . King Charles has got a house in the Cotswolds call Highgrove, and Princess Anne has got an estate called Gatcombe Park .

There's a channel called 'Off Day Adventures' It's a young Floridian couple and they have just finished walking the 102-mile Cotswold Way and vlogging each day. Worth a watch if you find time. The pair are super cute and lovely humans.
Yes, tea rooms serve coffee and coffee shops serve tea. Whilst tea is very popular, coffee has recently overtaken tea as the UK's favourite hot beverage. Probably a demographic thing. Personally I love both just depends what I feel like. Check out England's oldest hotel the Old Bell Hotel in Malmesbury, owned and run by a lovely lady from Texas. (You never know she might be hiring! :) )
Loved this. How could you not be in awe of the wonderful Cotswolds. Until we see your reactions, I think we are guilty of taking our beautiful countryside for granted. I went to the Cotswolds about 17 years ago. The place is beautiful. However I felt very uncomfortable around the people. I don’t know what they’re like now, but when I went, i had some of the nastiest looks off people cos i had tattoos. I have so many more now than i had back then, but they didn’t make me feel welcome at all. The place is absolutely stunning tho. Typical chocolate box kinda place
Also, talking about smart ducks. I have a pet duck who lives in the house with myself and my dog. Believe it or not, but I’ve been able to teach him commands, and he knows exactly how to respond to them. I had no idea ducks were that smart.

Just watched two Americans walking the Cotswolds Way in 9 days, worth a watch. There are some videos of the Cotswolds at Christmas, including Kirsten and Joerg's. It does look pretty. Check out right move site to have a look at some houses and the insides and prices, which are vey expensive. I saw an article a couple of years ago which said there are quite a few Americans living in the Cotswolds, so much so , that a deli has been opened specially catering for Americans. It said that with more people working remotely these days , they can live anywhere.
I’ll never forget the first time that we went to America for a holiday in 1986.We arrived in Florida, got ourselves settled in the hotel and ventured out in our hire car to International drive,being hungry we saw the big yellow arch of Md’s that’ll do, got our meals took them to the outdoor eating area which had a mini playground, my son who was 11 at the time struck up a friendship with a lad of about the age and were both sitting in earshot and I nearly fell off my seat when my sons new found friend asked him where he was from, when answered England,he asked my son if we lived in a castle. 😂

I don't live in the Cotswolds but if I look out of my window, it's just across the river (Severn)! What you might not realise is the model village in Bourton-on-the-water, contains a model village and that model village also contains a model village etc.
First she said the Cotswolds were in the South-East, which Natasha corrected, they are in the South-West, and then she said they would go North to South, and went to Castle Combe, which is in the South Cotswolds.
Oh, BTW, I don't need to go to the Cotswolds, I live there, and I adore it.
If truth be known, she is listing all the tourist traps, particularly Bourton and Stow.
Go off-grid and explore all the other little villages in the area, (and their pubs!)
There is so much to see that most tourists miss.

Every single American or tourist in general always misses the MAIN place in castle comb. As it’s tucked away to the side of the village. Which is the Manor House hotel ! It has absolutely stunning views in the summer and covered in leaves blooming.

Snowshill manor is well worth the visit its like an old junk shop with things on top of every surface. Farm and hand tools of unknown usage abound ( as does a small model of every hay cart style from every county of the country ) stuff is everywhere basically. The set of Japanese armour is mind blowing.

Now that was nearly to much to take in , endless beauty around every corner. I can’t imagine they put up much decoration , it would look tacky on such old regal buildings . Maybe just wreaths and garlands . Actually they put loads of fairy lights up in the Cotswold villages at Christmas. They look incredible. The place is totally transformed, and all the pubs have open fires - some of the finest looking pubs you’ll ever see. Everything in the Cotswolds is pristine inside and out. But you’re right that decorations are kept very tasteful - only white/yellow lights. Nothing tacky.
Also, the Cotswold towns are absolutely buzzing at Christmas with people and activity. Lots of great restaurants too, not just English food, but Indian, Thai, you name it.
I recommend visiting Wales, it’s calming and beautiful at the same time.

Didn’t visit Porthcawl, mainly west coast and north as that is where my grandfather was born. Nans side were from Briton ferry all the way up to Merthyr Tidfill. Maybe next time if God let’s me.
My family lived in Whiteshill, near Stroud, for over 54 Years and we could walk to Painswick . Now Mum is 92 1/2 and lives with me in Three Burrows, Cornwall. Lovely the country air and views.
I live in Manchester but stopped off at bourton on the water on our way to Bath. I’m so so glad we did it was stunning and the sun was shining. An absolute must see

The red telephone box in my village (N Cotswolds) is still a working telephone, BT gave it a fresh coat of red paint in the spring.
Loving the cotswolds i,ve been to Howorth where Bronte sisters lived but Cotswolds is still to be done ❤❤
