Don't want to burst your bubble but Santiago de Chile has 6 million people and it is the first city of a nation with 300 billion of dollars of GNP (Chile), versus 0.5 million in Santiago de los Caballeros, second city of a nation with 80 billion of dollars of GNP (Dominican Republic).
@@dennisbeacham883Santiago doesn't have beaches, of course. However, whenever travel is back up and running and you visit. Have a trusted local take you to some rivers. They have fantastic ones. Usually 45 min-1 hour away in the country. Nice water. Several have small falls or what we call "Chorros" or Cascadas". Lots of families with kids. Depending on season. Music. Clean atmosphere. The town of Bonao which is in "Cibao" is quite known for its many rivers.
I had absolutely no idea that veterans can get medical care outside of the United States. I am 70% service connected disabled and that has always been a concern of mine.
I plan to live in Santiago and hopefully open a bar and salon with my girlfriend who lives in Santiago. She is an amazing woman with excellent values. I can't wait to come live there especially now knowing that the VA will take care of my medical living expat. I'm packing my bags

Thank you so much for sharing your perspective on Santiago. I’m Dominican born but been living in the states since I was five . Grew up in New York but moved to Florida right after graduated from HS . I’m now 2-4 years away from retirement and considering moving back to DR for the same reasons as you guys ... looking for better quality living and lifestyle with a fixed income . plus the states is getting scary with all the shootings . Had two in the past two weeks (Boulder Co & Atlanta ) it’s a scary thought to think you can go to the grocery store and may not come back alive or send your kids to school to get killed’! I’ve been closely looking at the DR and now more than ever , I have a glimpse of hope that this country is heading In a positive direction with the new government of Luis Abinader. He has done so much more in 8 months than the his predecessor Danilo Medina did 8 years snd his party PLD that was in power for twenty!! DR is the gem of the Caribbean as it’s the first city that was established on America with the first hospital, first university, first church and basically the first sign of western civilization all started on that little island of Hispaniola.
Yes Santiago is more laid back compared to Santo Domingo, I was just there last June, Was suppose to come back this January, but had to cancel because of the rise of the new strand of covid affecting airport travel.
Hey Tina & Eric I hope that you guys are well & practicing social distancing . It's the new thing we all have to comply with, during these times .I live her in Santiago but grew up in N.Y.C. You made some good points about living in Santiago. You didn't mention cost of living. What about rent for an apartment or condo? I'd like a nice 1 or 2 bedroom furnished apartment in a nice area. For example, what should I expect to pay for a place like yours?
Our place is quite a bit bigger than most would probably need, is in a more affluent part of town, so we pay a bit more than the usual. I would suggest the Corotos app for prices furnished & unfurnished will also affect the price.
good to hear from both of you. It pleases me know that you are very happy in Santiago. If my wife ever make her mind up, we shall also make the move. Thanks for a great video.
Cristobal Colon arrived there because he was an adventurous person. It was a risky adventure and he could had not landed in now called The Americas. Actually it was his intencions for a short and faster way, that's what they said, to reach La India to get spicies, "especies". Santiago is a lay back city, family oriented and most of all with a lot of private investments. Tamboril is a province of Santiago and the mayor cigarros producer's town in the world; and the best tabaco, tobacco, producer in the country is in another Santiago’s town where Jose Reyes ex Mets baseball player is from. Best wishes to both, and wishing this new virus disappears soon.
I enjoy all your videos. I would like to actually visit you guys and talk in a more relaxed setting about my interests in possibly relocating after retirement
Hi Tina and Eric. Why do people have negative comments on UA-cam about Santiago? I noticed from videos about Santo Domingo that it's really too much like areas of New York City. Can you point to any discussions about these views on Santiago, and about the expat neighborhoods in Santiago? What are the health insurance options for expats over 70 or people who become expats at 70?
I plan to move there next year im a army vet and im service connected and. Im going to rent my house out. how can i get in touch with you guys.. To find an apartment.
Sunday 28 November 2021: I am an African American man, but with a Latin and Jewish soul. My travel goal is to visit as many Latin countries as I can before God {Adonai, Elohim} says my time is up. First, I love to see a happy Interracial couple regardless of what the mixture is. How did Eric, I think that is his name get so lucky or blessed to have such a pretty wife? I wonder, if they made any children together? Anyhoo, I was in Santiago for the first time in September 2021 and I really liked the people there. Hodelpa Hotel is the best. I love all Latin countries, but especially the Latin countries such as Cuba, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Panama, Puerto Rico and Brazil because those Latin countries have my African heritage there and I get a chance to see some brown, to dark skin Hispanics and Not just White skin Latinos like on Spanish soap operas/telenovelas. My only negative comment is the driving laws are crazy and horrible. People ride motorcycles Without head protection and sometimes with two adults and a small child under the age of 10 on the back without a helmet. If there is an accident, the kid falls off and will be brain dead or dead and maybe the adults too. All else is great.
