I live in Largo and can say first hand our city knows how to clean up after a storm. If anyone wants to question the equipment they buy, come on down in hurricane season and see what you think after...
It is a excellent idea. Not the first time plows have been used for this purpose. Damn site cheaper than a "Bulldozer" and won't tear up the road either. -John
The Plow Guys the only problem, they probably already own the other equipment necessary to clear a road. Also for far cheaper they could probably make arrangements with cities that already have snow removal equipment if they really want to go this route, but to buy two plows that will probably not get used and doubt will even work well for this situation, is just a waste of money!
Joel: The city gov't does the clearing not some private company. Like the people were saying you don't get snow in Florida so nobody has snowplows. I live in North Central Florida , am 71 yrs old and have seen snow here 3 times and the total of all of them might make it to the 1/3 inch mark. Of course the town will share the plows with other cities, it is included in a "mutual aid agreement". Many Fl. electric lines crews have gone to the far north of USA to aid in hurricane/snow storm damage of power lines.
buying snoplows to push debris out off the way after a hurricane is an excellent idea, we use them to push debris off the road all the time after a road is flooded, the Media is just making it sound like a waste of money, it's a very good idea.
Yes fuck A-SHITHOLE Broadcasting Company they are stupid tiny penis losers since -SHITHOLE Broadcasting Company wheel loaders can cost 130k to 1 million dollars EACH
Yeah notice they could have started the "report" with "person called us with a big nothing burger to check out" and gave the reason with the city purchased them. Instead they draw it out as if a big embezzling schema was a foot. Nope they barely even touch on it being a good thing.
So this reporter purposely misled people on the street then after filming them saying it's a stupid idea he explains what they are really used for and people agree...... just another day in the news!
right?? "well lets roast them for buying a snow plow...then they completely justified the purchase"....why in the fuck would this news station even air this garbage.
I wouldn't bash them for reporting on it. They didn't really pick a side. They just reported on the facts based on a viewer observation and even covered both sides. I say this was excellent reporting and an excellent idea by the town's public works department.
It is terrible reporting. They could started the story off with the public worker explaining what they were for. This is basically just click bait nonsense.
I grew up in Minnesota and live in Wisconsin so I know how valuable snowplows are and I don’t think it was a dumb purchase for them to get plows. No they won’t be used for the traditional use but it’s a good idea!
I live in southern Arizona and have seen snow plows moving mud/silt after flash floods. They cause less damage to the road surface than font end loaders or a dozer. I think it’s a smart thing to have for any municipality.
the city where I grew up in New York uses snow plows mounted on pick up trucks to push piles of heavy wet leaves along the streets into the bucket of large loaders that would then put them leaves into a dump truck.
TackerVideos but that's what they're called. say if you buy some eye drops to use as a laxative (on a side note, it's dangerous and shouldn't be done), you're still buying eye drops. you wouldn't go into the store and ask, "where can I find your instant squirts squirt?"
At first, I checked to see this wasn’t posted on April 1st. As the story progressed, makes sense- good idea. Especially given their proven effectiveness after storms in Oklahoma.
How else can the mayors brother in law earn a living ? These are the only snow plows sold in Florida in the last 50 years by Jim's Snow Plows. Poor old Jim, he's not the sharpest but he is the mayor's brother in law so give him a break.
This idea sounded kind of dumb without hearing the real reason, that was very reasonable and good thinking on the city's leaders. I have to admit I was way too quick to judge.
I live in ny and have a plow truck. I've used my plow on many occasions for several non snow applications. to push trees out of the road, a stray garbage can, dead deer, move gravel, and mud.
Its nice to hear about something that went right for a change. Thats actually a pretty good idea, all a bull dozer will do is tear up the rest of the road.
This is a valid Concept. In Colorado we Snowplows to push off rockslides from the highway. They are very good at pushing off debris. A bulldozer would just tear up the road. A friend and Lauder would scoop up debris but not push it off in an expedited fashion. Snowplows are good for pushing debris to the side of the road. This opens the road as quickly as possible.
We used snow plows to push debris off major highways and side roads after several nor easters and hurricanes. Debris such as sand , trees , construction materials that were not properly secured before approaching storms. Everyone wants roadways opened NOW and you do have to think outside the box. If your family members were hurt you wouldn't care what was used to get them to a hospital. Great job.
The guy says get a bulldozer!! Ok let me know how fast a bulldozer does 22k of damage to the road. 1/4 mile probably. I’ve used plows to push branches and small trees off the road in the winter. Works great.
Maybe this reporter should do a story on talking on tv while driving....if he keeps that up....maybe his wreck will get plowed to the side of the road......news is no longer news...its stupid stories like this one....
The government wastes so much money instead of buying states and cities need to trade or transfer equipment around instead of always buying new and selling after hardly using it
Bryan Poland it's called insurance and liability. You should bitch at the people who put lawsuits on the cities when they find out it was use equipment. It happens way too often.
George Vasquez dude it ain't that. It's buy new stuff we don't need so we can sell it next year and use the money to adjust our budgets so we can get raises and it gets a lot deeper than that. There is so much corruption and waste. I know because buying the "junk" is how I pay my bills. There are also differences across the US although it is to much to explain in UA-cam comments.
Bryan Poland so you're saying that you are a corrupted city employee? LOL. And yes it is it. Do you think the city would get away with buying old playground equipment. LOL.
Drove across Kentucky after an ice storm...did I mention they had SOLD ALL THEIR SNOW EQUIPMENT? Interstate was a BITCH! SEMI PARTS EVERYWHERE! A 2 hr. trip turned into 5 1/2 hrs. They have snow equipment now. WOOT! WOOT! 😉
doesn't make much sense to buy new once. but other than that, this a very intelligent solution for a problem most cities in Florida are guaranteed to have. I wish the state of Vermont would do this.
When I came down from Pennsylvania a week after irma hit I was going to mount my plow on my truck to push my way though. It is a brilliant idea. I think they need more than 2 of them
hmmmm help the state of IL huh really at what point? cause IL doesnt need help plowing the state highways they have perfected that. And unless youre down down in a little ass town every city and town has their own crews that handle snow trees etc etc. Sorry im calling BS on this statement and say you help the local community you visit or live in if in fact you even live in IL to begin with.
I can bet you Fema money helped buy these plows, as such FEMA assets are shared. Their availability are an asset to the area, clearing roads for emergency vehicles can save lives front end loaders cannot get to while they clear larger blockages. Having worked FEMA relief after hurricane Andrew I can tell you they would have been an asset to that operation. Thank you
Only issue I see to that is all the reflectors on Florida roads. All money spent putting those down will be a waste when a plow comes thru ripping them up.
Not a bad price for those sizes of plows... Hell a regular plow for a standard pick up can easily be $5,000... Lol you Southerners don't really know much about this.
Snow plows are a very valid way of removing debris from the road. Not much difference between snow and debris on the road. Snow is a lot heavier then people think.
You have got to be kidding me. Major storm. Too much debris on roads. Sometimes gas leaks aren't noticed right away or a gas valve gets pushed up out of the ground. Lets use a snow plow and create sparks. And snow plows do produce sparks. See it all the time in winter.
It would work! Great idea Largo! I went to the Keys after Hurricane Irma and it was a disaster you couldn't even drive down the road because of how much debris and how much sand was on the road.....the plow would work great
I'm glad this story covered both ends of it. see folks this is how liberal media talks they will never tell you the truth behind the story. I'm glad these folks told us the truth on what the plows are really intended to be used for
I still think 22,000$ is a bit much for 2 plows. But I understand there idea behind the plowing of debris after storms, that makes a lot of sense to me. Minutes vs hours or days of debris removal. I'll take the least amount of effort.
They should have snow plows, because it's better to be prepared so when you have that once in 50 yr snow fall you will be ready, vs trying to figure out what to do during it.i bet the same people complaining about them, will be the same complaining about why they don't have them
LMFAo news flash snow wont be on the ground long enough for them to use them its florida tho the reasoning they provided was enough. hurricane clean up can be a bitch
It might sound strange but it is actually very smart. Good thinking Largo.
I live in Largo and can say first hand our city knows how to clean up after a storm. If anyone wants to question the equipment they buy, come on down in hurricane season and see what you think after...
good idea, now all we need is a hurricane
roy hoco Florida gets a lot of bad storms
It is a excellent idea. Not the first time plows have been used for this purpose. Damn site cheaper than a "Bulldozer" and won't tear up the road either. -John
The Plow Guys the only problem, they probably already own the other equipment necessary to clear a road. Also for far cheaper they could probably make arrangements with cities that already have snow removal equipment if they really want to go this route, but to buy two plows that will probably not get used and doubt will even work well for this situation, is just a waste of money!
except, they probably will. largo gets hit pretty commonly. someone needs to buy them, an d it's probably shared with other municipalities
Joel: The city gov't does the clearing not some private company. Like the people were saying you don't get snow in Florida so nobody has snowplows. I live in North Central Florida , am 71 yrs old and have seen snow here 3 times and the total of all of them might make it to the 1/3 inch mark. Many Fl. electric lines crews have gone to the far north of USA to aid in hurricane/snow storm damage of power lines.
this is a terrible idea you can not use snow plows in florida due to how the road are set up.
you should know snow plows wont work in fl with our roads
buying snoplows to push debris out off the way after a hurricane is an excellent idea, we use them to push debris off the road all the time after a road is flooded, the Media is just making it sound like a waste of money, it's a very good idea.
Yes fuck A-SHITHOLE Broadcasting Company they are stupid tiny penis losers since -SHITHOLE Broadcasting Company wheel loaders can cost 130k to 1 million dollars EACH
YEAH. I THOUGHT SO TOO.
Yeah notice they could have started the "report" with "person called us with a big nothing burger to check out" and gave the reason with the city purchased them. Instead they draw it out as if a big embezzling schema was a foot. Nope they barely even touch on it being a good thing.
YEAH. EXACTLY. MORE FAKE NEWS.
Purchase justified!
So this reporter purposely misled people on the street then after filming them saying it's a stupid idea he explains what they are really used for and people agree...... just another day in the news!
Hack reporting ..... They had a decent answer for purchasing them ...

I grew up in Minnesota and live in Wisconsin so I know how valuable snowplows are and I don’t think it was a dumb purchase for them to get plows. No they won’t be used for the traditional use but it’s a good idea!
That's actually an amazing idea
thats what we use our hla for multipupose
I live in southern Arizona and have seen snow plows moving mud/silt after flash floods. They cause less damage to the road surface than font end loaders or a dozer. I think it’s a smart thing to have for any municipality.
sounds like Largo did a very smart thing . They are thinking out of the box.
I see them used in moving debris from roads or roadside, often after an accident. Seem very handy.
Kudos to town management , that is a great price , and they are very effective , also plowing hail when it gets deep enough
Snow plows can be used for much more than just snow. Smart move by the city!
the city where I grew up in New York uses snow plows mounted on pick up trucks to push piles of heavy wet leaves along the streets into the bucket of large loaders that would then put them leaves into a dump truck.
This sounds dumb, but it's actually a really smart idea. I approve
Up here in CT we used snow plows to clear debris off of break down lanes after a big wind storm
At first I was thinking WHAT!?! But now I see nothing wrong with the idea. Just don't call it a snow plow :~)
Who cares what they call it, no reason to cry over a name. The only reason you didn't understand is cause you're so gullible
TackerVideos but that's what they're called. say if you buy some eye drops to use as a laxative (on a side note, it's dangerous and shouldn't be done), you're still buying eye drops. you wouldn't go into the store and ask, "where can I find your instant squirts squirt?"
With all the extreme weather that's been happening, in places that usually don't get snow, I think it's a smart purchase
I've never in my life seen a plow used for debris. although I don't see why not.
They are still hoping no one finds out about the 3 snowblowers they also bought. 🤫
The steel augers grind up the debris and throws it 30 feet.lol.
use them here all the time in California to push rocks and mud off the road
At first, I checked to see this wasn’t posted on April 1st. As the story progressed, makes sense- good idea. Especially given their proven effectiveness after storms in Oklahoma.
Thats thinking outside the box and I approve.
They actually saved money by buying that rather than buying bulldozers.
NOW that's city thinking OUTSIDE the box,
you have two areas the same size, one area done by man and shovel, the other a plow
I bet these came in handy during hurricane Irma
How else can the mayors brother in law earn a living ? These are the only snow plows sold in Florida in the last 50 years by Jim's Snow Plows. Poor old Jim, he's not the sharpest but he is the mayor's brother in law so give him a break.
This idea sounded kind of dumb without hearing the real reason, that was very reasonable and good thinking on the city's leaders. I have to admit I was way too quick to judge.
You guys really don’t have anything to do. They are so smart for ordering those snow plows.

That director saved that city the cost of a front end loader or a bulldozer. Smart move. Now they'll get a couple feet of snow.
Well, that seems to be a very good idea and actually a money saver for the city.
$22,000? What about the $22 trillion the DoD is missing? You people are missing the point.
Great job.
About $11k for a plow like that is a steal.
What a non story. Click bait from the TV station.
They complained about 20,000 for a plow but say get a bulldozer which costs 250,000 they must not know how much equipment costs
Can somebody please post a link showing a snow plow pushing some fallen leaves??
smart move, stupid hyped story
They could've gotten them for around $1-2k if they looked at surplus auctions.
Allen McKinney or how about not taking a gamble on something that may have issues to begin with.

And yes it is it. Do you think the city would get away with buying old playground equipment. LOL.
I work for CalTrans in Calif. we use plows all the time. We have different sizes. Great for rocks , mud , almost anything.
Although justifiable, it doesn't seem the most economical use of taxpayer money.
Thinking outside of the box. Good job Largo. A lot cheaper than buying more heavy equipment.
My friend used his old snowplow to spread a huge pile of gravel over his driveway instead of renting a bobcat, worked like a charm...
Please send the plow to us in Iowa. We currently have 12 inches of snow
Someone's brothers in law got a kickback!
Can the double as a homeless shelter so the city gets more bang for the 20K spent?
I bet their glad they had them this year!
I didn't know you could turn a whole entire news segment into click bait.
$22,000 for 2 plows?
fuck thats a good deal, can guarantee that they will pay for themselves with the first bad storm as mentioned.
That's smart, they just need to be careful of on road reflectors when plowing.
Only people who have been out clearing roads know without a doubt plows work for clearing debris off road
NEWS FLASH:
ABC Action News has spent over $100k in cameras when an
$800 cellphone does the EXACT SAME JOB...
Anyone who complains are the same people who would shit a brick if they did get snow and the city wasent ready.
WOOT! WOOT!
😉
these people are going to complain about 20K? sounds like ABC is having a slow news week....
doesn't make much sense to buy new once. but other than that, this a very intelligent solution for a problem most cities in Florida are guaranteed to have. I wish the state of Vermont would do this.
Soooo hows everyone feeling this year??
When I came down from Pennsylvania a week after irma hit I was going to mount my plow on my truck to push my way though. It is a brilliant idea. I think they need more than 2 of them
Initially sounds absurd but in the end real-world logic prevails.
You can also put sweepers on trucks that might even do a better job and they have them for pickup trucks
They only bought two. Not a bad idea to have them on standby. Is have to actually say not a bad idea
I help the state of Illinois and we use our plows to do allot of different things I have used them to bush trees off of roads
hmmmm help the state of IL huh really at what point? cause IL doesnt need help plowing the state highways they have perfected that. And unless youre down down in a little ass town every city and town has their own crews that handle snow trees etc etc. Sorry im calling BS on this statement and say you help the local community you visit or live in if in fact you even live in IL to begin with.
I live in a little town and the job I do is called snow birds look it up
seems like a wise purchase.. odd to say that about any government spending
I always wanted to drive a state of Conn dump truck full of sand and a snow plow on Daytona Beach
22k is nothing when it comes to budgets of towns
$22,000 is a drop in the bucket...Where can I purchase one 🤷🏼♀️
They thought that Noah was crazy for building an ark as well.
They are saving city money. Nuff said.
Must have been a slow day in the news
Not a bad price for those sizes of plows... Hell a regular plow for a standard pick up can easily be $5,000... Lol you Southerners don't really know much about this.
and you northerners dont know about the roads in the south and how much of a shit idea this is
Thats a great idea! Money well spent!!🤗👋👋
Snow plows are a very valid way of removing debris from the road. Not much difference between snow and debris on the road. Snow is a lot heavier then people think.

Turns out they actually needed them in 2018
... and you actually needed the snowplow!
Why would they waste $22,000 on a snow plow that can go 30mph when they could have spent $44,000 on a bulldozer that goes 5mph?
A sensible purchase, but 10k a pop is a little absurd. Should have brought used/surplus.
I bet they are using them this year Sept. 2017... they should follow-up and see.
Steven Hindman here comes
Jasonsenipor ... (there went) hurricane Irma.
It would work! Great idea Largo! I went to the Keys after Hurricane Irma and it was a disaster you couldn't even drive down the road because of how much debris and how much sand was on the road.....the plow would work great
It’s Not going to be under warranty. They will void your warranty if used for other than snow removal .
they work good for shouldering the roads too...and yes we have use them for storm damage too
I'm glad this story covered both ends of it. see folks this is how liberal media talks they will never tell you the truth behind the story. I'm glad these folks told us the truth on what the plows are really intended to be used for
Lmao !!
A snow plow a basic tool in Midwest and a JOKE in Fa
......good reporting........
I still think 22,000$ is a bit much for 2 plows. But I understand there idea behind the plowing of debris after storms, that makes a lot of sense to me. Minutes vs hours or days of debris removal. I'll take the least amount of effort.
Always be prepared and they could offer assistance in other cities as well
lol that guy said buy a bulldozer in which one costs 50-100 thousand dollars. or you could buy 2 plows for 20k and do 2x the amount of work
I bet they will attach them to some big ass trucks and use them for crowd control on the streets as a big wall
They should have snow plows, because it's better to be prepared so when you have that once in 50 yr snow fall you will be ready, vs trying to figure out what to do during it.i bet the same people complaining about them, will be the same complaining about why they don't have them
Knock knock
Who's there?
#grandsolarminimum
LMFAo news flash snow wont be on the ground long enough for them to use them its florida tho the reasoning they provided was enough. hurricane clean up can be a bitch
Largo, FL. Must have been really happy when it snowed. Tuesday, January 2, 2018-Wednesday, January 3, 2018.
I AGREE WITH THIS USE OF A SNOW PLOW FOR STORM DEBRIS REMOVAL! THIS CREATES MORE USES FOR A TRUCK,
THESE PLOWS ARE EASILY REMOVED WHEN NOT NEEDED!
ok so dont call them snow plows call them debris plows and every one will be happy XD
Pemberton inc. in Longwood Florida could make this type of thing all day long. Give them a call.....
I was about to say it snowed in 1977!
