Intentionally restricting supply means we are not even interested . If i were to put an order in it would be a 12+ month waiting list. These car manufacturers have got their hand on it ,it's not a low volume Ferrari I would not wait even 3 months for a Toyota or a Ford or a Nissan etc. It's like lining up to get into a Kmart.

I test drove the Kakadu this week .
That boot configuration is awful. Rear seats not able to slide forward or back is a steep in the wrong direction too. Lovely interior though, cameras are high quality at last too!
I have a late model VX with the same engine and honestly I didn’t find the drive of the new one as refined. It feels like a heavier vehicle vs the old one.
I need a 7 seater option, so that boot is a deal breaker. Not to mention the gaps that exist ALL round the square platform created by the folded seats and flimsy storage box that make up the floor of the boot.
Love the looks but that’s it. Not in a hurry at all to upgrade.

body on frame vehicles were never good for interior space. The floor is high due to the frame, that eats into the interior height. Add hybrid batteries, solid rear axle, fuel tank, and spare tire underneath then you're left with very limited space. That's what happened to the Toyota sequoia. If you want space and three row, then it's going to have to be an unibody vehicle.

Toyota Australia is taking their customers for a ride. Even Switzerland has a regular, non-hybrid 8 speed diesel, with option for 600nm torque. This hybrid setup is completely in opposition to the storage, weight and reliability needs of a 4x4. I think this is really positioned as a primarily city car, while the 300 is the upsell for more serious off-roading. Prado is absolutely positioned to push regular off-roaders up to the 300.

Everything after 2018 from Toyota has been made with saving money in mind, it's obvious. Toyota is losing it's appeal because of the cheap parts that are now going on them. As an example, Measure the internal door sizes from last series to this series in every single model of Toyota. Compare simple stuff like the struts, the type of leather they now use etc. Everything is now about making them cheap but selling them at the same price

IMHO from a 150 VX Owner who was looking to upgrade
    Positives
    - Looks great from the outside
    - Front dash and front seating area are excellent
    - Tech and screens look fantastic
    - 8 speed auto
    Negatives
    - Approx 10k + more expensive across the range
    - No gas struts for bonnet
    - 48 V mild hybrid adds complexity, and dubious benefits
    - Ad Blue addition and still has a DPF
    - Same carryover engine 2.8 L GD with no more power/torque
    - Seven seat set up is a backwards step with a much smaller amount of boot room/very high lip, plastic storage ‘box’ and lack of room for a fridge - Toyota says seats can’t be removed due to battery underneath
    - Weighs 250-300kg more
    - Cool box is much smaller than 150 on VX+
    - Rear seats/2nd row don’t slide back-and-forth for more space
    - Only 2, 5 seat variants the GX and the altitude to avoid to limited boot space
    - Fuel tank is 110 L - less than 150 L from the Prado 150
    - Smaller boot opening height than the 150
    - no rear Diff lock in anything but the altitude - more models in old 150 have both
    - Payloads approx 100kg less than old 150’s
    - Stop start
    - Wheel not on the back, under car
    - Glove box and storage in the front is small I.e no sunglasses holder, storage above gearshift in cubby
    - Driver monitoring system annoyance
    - No space for a dual battery under bonnet
-Sliding GVM kg, moves up and down depending on model grade. Previous Prado was fixed GVM for all models, with payload increasing as you went down the range with less kit.

When the dealer wanted huge amounts of deposit from me to keep a place in a queue and photos of the boot started showing up, plus the notion of the same 4 cyl and heavier car, then the lack of rear leg room and no sliding bench, it all started to fall apart from me. I wasn't paying $10k more, for less, and have to wait 12 months or more for the privilege. Needless to say a certain other V6 10 Speed now has my money and will arrive before Xmas complete with lifted remote res shocks, 33s from factory and a proper amount of legroom including generous boot space WITH the third row up.

I got to have a good look at a vx over here in NZ that a customer of mine just got about a week ago, he's a farmer and pretty much the first thing he did was take it off road into one of the paddocks his workers were cultivating, I had a look over it later that day.
Noted most of the same things you did, loved the ease of servicability it seems the have, bu the 2 things that I wasn't too happy with were how the rear sway bar links are designed, right in the wheel well and will definitely get hammered especially in aussie conditions. (Lived in perth a while) The other thing is also to do with that rear wheel well, there's no real protection from mud and dirt off the rear tyre making it's way into the passengers cabin, if you have a look you'll see that the rear door seals are quite soft and don't have much crush. Even after 1 day off road it looked to me like dirt dust and mud will easily make it's way in.
Again in dusty red dirt conditions 100% you'll get dust ingress into the passengers cabin section. Take it through some wet spots and you'll see straight away what I'm talking about.
Otherwise seems like a decent truck.

We ended up changing the contract a month back over to the Altitude, as the terrible colour choices in VX - meant we were taking an all black car as the best of a bad bunch and it felt a compromise. I suspect many people will now switch over to the Altitude given that 7seat/poor boot design. Where that places ourselves and everyone else in the queue will be interesting. It may actually be better to wait a year or two anyway for any issues to be identified and ironed out.

250 series has been here in NZ now for the past month & we drove one a couple of weeks ago- boot configuration in the 7 seater with the 3rd row folded down is a massive drawback, just not enough space. Going to stick with my 2005 120 series- put the 3rd row of seeds in the the odd occasion we need them, otherwise rip them out & use the space on long trips.

$82k starting price for a GX (no doubt they will be more when they actually arrive at the dealers). Comes without diff lockers and the same 2.8L engine as in a 4 yr old Fortuner which has a rear diff locker.
This new Prado has been pitched as a city dweller runabout shopping car to cart the kids to school & sports etc and not as an offroader. They are trying to sell upsell you into a 300 for that purpose.
You would be far better off spending money on your existing 120/150 Prado to upgrade/customise it as required for your lifestyle. For instance our Prado has E-lockers front & rear and many other mods to make it a beast for all round duties.
Many shops doing engine rebuilds/swaps these days if your engine is tired. Same goes for Trans & diffs & transfer cases etc.
The biggest issue with so much more electronics crammed into these new models they are becomming so much not suitable for offroading as to much risk of an error code popping up leaving you stranded in the bush. Always wise to offroad on a non complex 4WD

Australian Toyota sales account for less than 3% of total world wide sales, we aren't considered for country specific vehicle design because the total sales wouldn't improve anything for them.

@@Capt_SambaI would agree with you but then, Germany sells less landcruiser than Australia but still has a different engine setup without the 48V system, at least as far as current information states.

What happens if my vehicle runs out of AdBlue®?
It will automatically shift into a reduced power mode so you can get home. It will not restart if the engine is turned off and the AdBlue® tank is empty.

In Czech Republick (EU) we are lucky - pure 2,8 Diesel, no baterry, maybe engine outuput is not so high, but its not race car. And turnk i HUGE.

in Slovakia, only the top model (Executive, since First Edition is gone) has Sway Bar Disconnect, which is absurd given in LC 150 top 4 trims had KDSS.
Toyota Europe plans to introduce the Mild Hybrid in 2026 I think for 250.

Regarding the front diff lock: It seems that Toyota is depending on A-Trac to do that work. Overall, the issue with the boot is a deal breaker, at least for me. I didn't know the one in Australia will come with a battery!

In regards to that 60kg limit in the back of the GX and Altitude, the US version also has a weight limit. The US version’s weight limit is in reference to the storage area’s lid(board), not the battery area. It also appears for our Aussie version, that 60kg weight limit is also referring to the storage area’s lid(board) and not the battery area. Don’t go sitting on that area with your legs hanging over the bumper which many have done in the past with wagons.
I have always wondered where Toyota would put that 48 volt battery after seeing the reviews of the system on the Hilux which has it under the rear seat. Now that l have seen the storage design for the 7 seater, my heart which has been on the Altitude grade in the past, is now even more so. Also GX is now looking more interesting.
I can now see why the US didn’t go for a 7 seat option with their hybrid only models. They most likely would have ended up with a similar storage design, for the third seat and battery.
Altitude would be the most capable and safest grade, thanks to lock diff, sway bar disconnect and HUD (which helps keep your eyes more on the road).
Also I’d be interested to know if the 48v battery on the Prado, is the same capacity as the Hilux?

Which is why I've focused on my custom built gq dual cab, almost ready, non def dpf adblue, blow a fuse and shut down shite, can't afford to wait 10 years for a delivery, spend 20 years eating two minute noodles, paying it off in debt, horse dung vehicles full of more plastic than a self afleuncer.
I would rather put a 100k into something reliable and capable and diy it, thsn invest in a premade expensive vehicle, with a loss of 80% value in 10 years crap any day.
Short term loss, long-term gain 👍
ready in time for my 40th.

Thanks Ronny for these details. Toyota really should do better on 7 seater rear aesthetic. It actually could look better without the storage thing. ONE note that the height of the box is actually like 21cm instead of 25cm.

Uncannily similar to my 2024 Tacoma -- though it has some uprated trim. Even though the engine is different on that prado, it looks surprisingly familiar in arrangement to the Tacoma.
