What's going on when the flames change colour? An explanation from the live show 'Kaleidoscope'.
blog.life.org....
I really like the coppers color
it is white because it can reach a temp of 2000c
same
Me too!
I like the strontium and copper flames. They have more color to them and I just like the way they appear.
Been my favorite for a long time!
Guess which film brought me here.
Thank you for the easy and clean explanation.
Was curious from the movie Elemental when the fire character changed colours with minerals...this was cool to learn about !
Same here!
The copper's fire color is AWESOME! Not only is it green I caught traces of blue and orange.
This was fantastic!
My son was born the week before this came out, so unfortunately, he missed it being posted. 😐
But, this morning, my (now 7yo) son and his 6yo brother came to me looking for science answers. They wanted to know if flames could have different colors.
With a hearty "Heck yeah, they can!" but wanting a visual to show them, I went on a (fruitless) Google search (I couldn't find any engaging content directed at an age-inclusive audience).
I did a quick search on UA-cam and this video jumped out at me*, and after pre-screening it, shared it with my kids.
They couldn't understand all of it, but the wording made it easy to work around the more difficult bits (which aren't completely relevant to their learning yet, anyway, so it gives me the opportunity to revisit those concepts in the future without overwhelming them with facts).
They stayed engaged: my 6yo loved the host's vocal tone and beamed through the whole video, and my 7yo found it engaging.
They both enjoyed seeing the full demonstration. They liked seeing the relevant elements of set-up (the physical pouring of powdered chemicals into the surface, igniting the flames, etc) because it made them feel like they were there/involved rather than spectating.
tl;dr: Thank you! This video answered my kids' science question, and they very much enjoyed the demonstration as well as the host's explanation.
liked and subscribed 👍
* The still of this video is of your science guide/expert/host in the dark behind the flames, which reminded me of Sir Attenborough - patiently telling the camera about an animal perched directly in front of him - which gave me some optimism about the content. 🤓
Me too now❤😊
Very chilled.Nice :)
I love the Copper/Green one, but probably because my favorite MegaMan character is Burner Man, who emits green fire too xD
I loved your video - clean, simple and quiet. Nice !
Man hello this was 9 years ago
@@fellowberserkenjoyer So what? Are you bored making stupid comments like that? Get a life.

When temperatures approach 2,400º F to 2,700º F, flames appear white. ... The color blue indicates a temperature even hotter than white. Blue flames usually appear at a temperature between 2,600º F and 3,000º F. Blue flames have more oxygen and get hotter because gases burn hotter than organic materials, such as wood. SO BLUE IS HOTTER
i came from watching elemental, when ember(fire character) started changing color ... saying: it's the minerals. the video is just beautiful
whats the hottest fire color? White? Blue? Green?
Charis The Hedgehog Purple
Daniel Anderson No, that's the second hottest flame. White is the hottest flame.
_Yugen Super white
black. flame in hell
_Yugen it's blue
There is also purple
where?
Purple is still impossible to reach
1:49 i see no diffrence between the fire and the stop lights
macky oki lol that’s so true
It's becouse there is sodium gas in those stop lights .
If you dont your an idiot
I mean I see green, orange red and a red with blue at the bottom
what is the liquid u r pouring using the syringe
This is a very relaxing video
this video is amazing 1st time i saw the green color fire,
Which color of fire have more heat?
she has a very cool voice!!
Agree!
I like the green!
Omg, me too🔥✅
the mic is flawless. how
You can get a green flame also by using boric acid (Active ingredient in roach killer and certain chemical cleaners).
For that I read, in Tokyo 2020 Olympics and Paralympics the cauldron will be in multicolored flame as like in the video!
_Yugen, it’s actually purple because if you look at the electromagnetic spectrum, it shows how each color changes according to the wavelength and frequency. “ The HOTTEST we have DISCOVERED so far is actually blue, meaning blue star, but we haven’t yet discovered a purple. It is believed that the hottest would be a purple star but I could be wrong. Just giving up my opinion and observations. I’m pretty sure that this is not the same for fire meaning fire on earth not that there is any fire in space but I’m not sure if it’s true that the hottest fire is actually purple. Now I’m pretty sure it is for stars because stars are believed to me made of plasma which is the 4 state of matter but fire is not plasma. FUN FACT: Did you know that you can create plasma if you microwave fire, not that you should but it’s something cool to know, also there is believed to me a 5th state of matter as well called dark matter which is what is believed to hold the universe together, meaning all of that empty space in outer space which is where there is nothing could actually have dark matter which is what holds all the stars and galaxies in their orbit. And yes galaxies and stars do orbit as well.
Wouldn't it be a white one?
@@adamdolson2525, no
@@whatskrakin37 A completely white star would be cooler than a purple star ?
@@whatskrakin37 I think I get it. Every star will have white to it, but then the hue will be another color. A theoretical purple star would be the hottest ?
@@adamdolson2525, yes kind of but there is more science behind it. But you are correct to some extent
Here after watching Elemental
It is not just the case with salts or metals. If you colour a strip of paper blue it burns green too.. but surprisingly none other colour other than violet shows any trace of green flames.
There is something odd about blues.
Ancient Egyptians didn't even had a name for blue colour and they had words for every small things.
Why?
Is it because blue is not a part of the cosmos and later became a part of it.
Just curious!
Looks like it's dancing lol dancing party!!
this channel should have more subs
i like the light green flame it is so sick
Curious if you know of a food safe way to make any colored flame one wants to produce in his/ her flambees. But keeping it still food consumption safe?
no. food coloring has different atoms, you need metal atoms to change the color
i really like the pure blue flame
Your eyes coloer like a green flam
And your voice is so beautiful
They’re groovin
what are u using for flaming medium...my mean is what are you using for burn ?
ASMR audio is awesome
Rainbow happen in the fire forms as well
Your voice is very relaxing
Question, color is what we see right ? then if table salt is emitting yellow light then it means it's giving out that specific wavelength of light. But what of white light ? Magnesium and Beryllium burns with white flame does this mean they give out all the wavelengths of the flame ?
I love 🔥 Thanks for the video !
Truly Astonishing!
Voldemort really liked coper.
Imagine if the house was burned with copper fire and the firefighters will be like "Why's the fire fully green????"😂😂😂
O you may have just cleared up my issue with only getting big blue flambees and I couldn't make the big red / orange flames it's might be salt. Now I like blue flame better but I want to know both and in a nondark room you really cannot see the blue flambees
So..how is blue fire made?
Wait so if copper flames are green so what does it mean when we burn plastic bags cause they emmit green flames when burnt
Make some purple fire with K and MG please
so if I smash my copper coin to pieces and I put some flammable fluid and light it turns to the hottest flame blue?
Green flames are so beautiful 😃
Wow! Perfect ❤️❤️❤️
An easy way to get a colorful fire: try Denarora Flame Color Changing Packets
Beautiful
Aside from burning. Any dangers to this?
I just wanna know which is hotter
I did this at my school
Jocelyn Hernandez congratulations
You are absolutely awsome! I was just freakin out my stove top flames are orange " I thought the psychotic woman stalker next door trying to kill me" Thank Goodness it was not that. I did clean the stove top with salt this afternoon. Q- how long will this salt lasts on stove top? no doubt subscribe
U didn't put a mask. It means its not dangerous to inhale right?
WHAAAAAAT. It kinda makes me think about oxidized copper
Good show
Green=Broly
Orange=ssj
the redis=ssg
Thanks for this video 😊😊🙂🙂
Gooooddddd✌🏻💖
Blue fire reminds me on Dabi
Do the flames change colour because they are different temperatures? do the different salts fuel different levels of heat?
it depends on the atoms
Does the flame burn hotter when you add NaCl?
No it does not. The flame does not burn hotter with NaCl present because you aren’t actually converting NaCl to something else via a chemical reaction that releases energy as heat. In fact, OVERALL, the presence of NaCl does nothing at all.
The way the colour-changing works is that every atom has a set of fixed energy levels, meaning to promote (excite) an electron from energy level 1 to 2, you absorb x Joules of energy from the surroundings. And to go back down from 2 to 1 the electron just released that x Joules of energy back to the surroundings.
When you have fire around NaCl, the electrons in Na+ absorb heat from surroundings and electrons get excited to higher energy levels. And then any electron that ENDS UP IN ENERGY LEVEL 2 REGARDLESS OF WHICH ENERGY LEVEL IT DROPPED DOWN FROM will release energy that just nice corresponds to visible wavelengths of light.
This is really cool and informative but I think you should wear a mask. Not for covid but for the toxic fumes👀
How to make colorful flames: tear a colored page from a flyer, make a roll , place a big long metal fork inside the roll and stick one end of the roll to the fork with scotch tape , set the roll on fire. 100% vivid multicolored flames, 3 minutes time, cost 0. If you have not a big long metal fork you can use anything metallic equally safe and suitable for the purpose. Warning: do not do this inside the building , nor in public places , nor with people or other creatures around , nor in woods. Tip: Use low quality printed pages such as a flyer or magazine.
Are they at different temperatures?
what is the flammable liquid?
Twisted fire starter 🔥
Is it safe to breathe in
very interesting
I am accidentally change colour of flame when I was learning online and be so boring and I take copper paper clip and burning it and put it into something and melt it but when I heating the paper clip again with lighter I saw that the collar of flame was green so I search what was happen in google LOL
And lithium chloride makes bright red flames
What is this fuel ? Ethanol ?
Are you able to reuse the copper salt or better yet burn something on the copper and it will turn green?
You can add more flammable liquid to the copper salts and do the demonstration again and again. The colour of the flame does start to deteriorate as the surface of the copper salt oxidises, so it won’t last forever.
As for burning a flammable liquid on copper.. we’ve never tried it before. It would be interesting to find out! In controlled lab conditions of course (don't try this at home!).
Centre For Life i wouldn't dare try this at home (wouldn't want to die and all) however do you think a person could make a lighter tip out of copper and the flame would be green? thanks for your reply though :)
Okabe Rintarou ...You use time machines at home and yet wouldn't dare to try burning flammable liquid on copper?
Nobody consistently explains the bright blue inner flame colour from the pale blue outer flame colour in a bunsen burner. physics please, not chemistry.

best video
Anywon watching this in 2019? 😉
Nah
It feels like a asmr video
Hello? 2020?
Epic
does it burn hotter than the other ones
No - the salt doesn’t add any significant energy to the system, it just gives off a different colour as it oxidises
I love copper :D
Avada kedavra
she should wear dark cloak and conical hat. that would be cooler
Isn't white flame hottest known
No its blue
Wildfire from GOT
Purple is the hottest color fyi
You sound like the girl version of the narrator from national geographic
What if I made a fire in my fireplace with copper or sodium-chloride? Will the fumes hurt me?
Minecraft nether is made out of copper

Fire
Air
Can become rainbow
Hottest fire is violet anyone who is watching trying to find out
Sounds like Gordon Ramsay
