"Hello, horrible, cruel world!" That's some greeting, Dr. D! Well, if I really think about it, what else am I to expect from a psychiatrist whose professional focus is the worst that humanity has to offer? I really enjoy your analyses, Dr. Das, and appreciate the waves of humour you use to soothe the savage beast in all of us.

    2 things.
First, I cannot access any of your other videos of you doing stand up or rapping etc, because I'm in Canada and apparently they're not available here and that makes me very sad 😢
Second, I recently lost my dad..like a week ago...and for whatever reason, your videos are the only ones that have helped me thus far. I've zero interest in living life the way I used too, I was quite content to sit in the dark at my kitchen table just staring into space and occasionally crying for days on end. I have no idea what it is about your videos that's helping me, but I'm choosing to believe it's your ridiculous dad-like jokes that remind me of my dad just enough to make me laugh but not enough to make me cry. So thank you for that 💞

I was sexually abused a lot while I was growing up by my father, one of my older sisters, my mother and occasionally by neighbors. I don't think that my parents knew what the other parent was doing. I think that they kept it hidden from each other. My father had romantic feelings for me and would vent to me how unhappy he was with my mother and my mother would vent to me about how unhappy she was with my father. Me and my siblings were homeschooled and we lived in the wilderness. I wasn't left alone with mandated reporters until I was a teenager. By that time I was completely conditioned to be loyal to the family at any cost to myself or other people who were not a part of our immediate family. When I got old enough to spend time with friends with out supervision, I understood that I had to make sure that they were convinced that my parents and family were wholesome, gentle, fair, generous etc, etc. Me and my siblings were not allowed to talk about the abuse with each other. So I don't know if my parents molested any of my brothers or my two half sisters who would have been my father's stepchildren. I know that my older sister was regularly molesting my older brother and one of my younger brothers. When I was young, all of my friends were being molested by a parent or another member of the community. My father's sexual assault were often violent. He told me not to talk about the abuse, because no one would believe me or that if I did and I was believed, that I would destroy my family.
When I was middle aged, I told my husband what my father had done and it was the first time that I'd spoken of the abuse out loud and my husband didn't believe me. My husband was a danger to my life and I was still less scared of him than my father.

There is no comparison to sexual abuse, particularly when committed by a parent, the one who should be your number one protector.
If it makes you feel any better, I myself was badly beaten by my mother with the buckle of a belt, from about 6 to 10 when I was vulnerable. It could happen any day of the week, and would often leave me badly bruised, on my hand or arm. I was dragged up by her on her own, worst memories of my life.
I dont want to put up too much details, but it took me many years to talk about this issue among others.

Hi Dr Das, can you do a video on the Collin Reeves case please? The ex solider who served in Afghanistan and later murdered his two neighbours with his army dagger after a trivial row about parking arrangements? Two forensic psychiatrists both agreed he had mild to moderate depression but no psychosis or Acute PTSD. After listening to his 999 confession call I honestly do not think this was then indicative of someone who was in any way compus mentis at the time of the murders at least. Your expert analysis would be really appreciated! There will inevitably be more to this case that the mainstream media has not highlighted.

I know how he got away with it for so long. People hid it for him. People made sure that the victims werent heard, believed, and made sure they were isolated out of any situation in which they could be taken seriously. Until now. It is insidious and disgusting. I personally think that anyone that aided in the continued cover up should be charged as well. Just my opinion.

Really glad I have stumbled on this channel, it's really insightful, deeply respectful and massively beneficial for the sake of justice and recovery, congrats! I have struggled with this question also, about whether I can continue to like Micheal Jackson's song, as a massive fan, born in 1981, and still a child myself when the media reported the shocking reports of child abuse. From my understanding of neurology, the role of addiction plays a massive part in the decline in ppls morals and humane treatment of others. Those place in the fringes of society, as 'idols' or 'outcasts' are psychologically vulnerable to cultural labeling and pressures which pressures ones mental state beyond the bounds of civilised functioning. Addiction tends to dominate such ppls existence, since normality and dignity are alien concepts, the need for a dopamine hit to feel peace and self acceptance in the face of pressure or oppression, causes further dissension from self. The reward system of the brain, the amygdala increases, with more activity, meaning more dopamine is needed to feel the previous relief the dopamine hit fulfilled before the increase; making the individual's behaviour more depraved and abusive, as the addiction over power's their self control and true-self. Unfortunately, the more power the perpetrator has from their talent, the more victims they claim. Fundamentally, I think you can separate artistry from the artist, because their public contribution and private lives are two separately conceived paradigms; which are culturally appropriated and interpersonally propagated. The system is more at fault than the predators and victims it creates and without predominant cultural shifts towards respect, modesty and humility; then egotism, greed and pervasion enslaves the majority. I believe the main problem is the separation of wisdom into spheres of grace or truth, rather than equal measure of both. People judge others because of their truths, people over protect because of the harm that causes and respect is lost in a battle of attack and defend, which deteriorates the moral fabric of society, leading to predators and prey, the innocent and vulnerable devoured by the deranged. To conclude, any product of the artist which does not reflect their moral decline or disgraceful conduct is something morally safe to reminisce and enjoy upon, however, as a professional, I think this should be done privately out of the respect of the perpetrators victims and those of similar experience.

How people 'present' themselves and their 'good works' is often a 'cover' for what that person actually is. They 'fake' who they really are. The 'opposite' is often the truth. Being 'famous' becomes a 'magnet' for others. The love of 'power' over others seems to be the playback of bullies and naracists. Victims are never believed if their abusers is a person of 'power and influence'. If you are a 'professional abuser' who do the courts believe? The title 'Doctor' can often be 'used' by some who either have no right to be regarded as a medical Doctor or a Physiatrist. We however need to remember the case of Dr Howard Shipman. It is still possible for Doctors to abuse their position to their own ends. ''Trust me, I'm a Doctor', is a well known phrase. Can you trust all Doctors? It's good to have the guidance of genuine Physiatrists and Expert Witnesses. Our society would be in chaos without them. Thank you also for your book and all the 'genuine' analysis that you give us. Your guidance is greatly appreciated.

Personally, I believe in separate the art from the artist _in certain ways._ I think movies/tv employ so many people that boycotting hurts a lot of innocent folks. Music is far more intimate (less crew)…HOWEVER, the way to still enjoy it w/o guilt is to pirate it/only use hard copies you already own (bc streaming pays royalties), preventing them from getting ongoing revenue from you. If the artist passed on, I don’t think that’s a necessary step bc it’s (presumably) going to their family.
I came of age in the #MeToo era & have experienced things along those lines & this is the best balance I found to enjoy nostalgic media & still do right by victims

Not uncommon that all new inmates are on some kind of "watch" d/t facilities having to be "cautious" with anyone coming into their facilities. Who knows how anyone may adjust? And so often it is not enough, anyone that is determined and is familiar with the routines of such restrictive settings will figure it out and wait for a "round" when someone does their checks (if they are indeed doing them) and then do what they plan on doing. It doesn't take much time to die if that is your plan.

Consider the literary / art / scientific geniuses throughout history - they couldn't all have been angels. Picasso was apparently a complete pig, Charles Dickens was the world's worst husband, Priscilla was 14 when she met 24-year-old Elvis, Sinatra was horrible. Talking about the sins and vices of Jerry Lee Lewis is a little difficult, for one simple reason: He had pretty much all of them. Miles Davis was a psychopath, Scriabin thought he was the next Messiah, Lennon was a prize jerk. Time and distance appear to provide some sort of amnesia and we tend to remember the good parts. I mean, the Romans took over England with a good measure of force, but everyone want to find a coin now.

It’s OK we can like remix to ignition and still hate R. Kelly. Even douche bags put out a good song once in a while.
And I will continue to listen to Marilyn Manson.

I hope RKelly is not still receiving royalties from his music as I would be happy to continue listening to some of his music but not if I thought it could give him more money to help him survive in prison.

I don’t think you can separate..I can’t for example if you buy or stream R. Kelly music that money must go to his estate or him…so in a way he’s still making money so screw him. This is just my opinion. I can’t listen to Michael Jackson because of his crimes against children. I am a Buffalo Bills fan but do not acknowledge OJ Simpson for his crimes…again just my opinion

I'm surprised you haven't mentioned the abuse he allegedly was subjected to when he was a child. There is no excusing his behavior and the harm it did to vulnerable young people. You talk about people aiding and hiding his behavior but I would think that prolonged abuse on a child would have left him also with some belief the behavior was somewhat normalized? This is important as I believe if people think/know a child is being abused they should report it not cover/hide it. Stop cycles of harm. Thoughts?

You said it "allegedly", why would he speak of something not substantiated by evidence? And only an insane mind would think that any kind of abuse he/she suffered and experienced could be normal(to carry it out unto others). They might only think it normal before stepping out to the society but not after and creating life for themselves outside their realm of normalcy.

I don't think Kelly's achievements should be recognised, because what he did to his victims cancels it out. Plus, to admire him in any way would devalue his victims, leaving them feeling worthless. Great video, Mr Das! 👌

I believe we must separate the artist's identity from the art. A lot of artists in the past have been terrible people but their work is fantastic.. I don't believe the artist should be paid for their work if they've been proven to be predictors.
Any further profits could go to victims or organisations that help victims.

This argument is frustrating because all artists are so different. Some artists make art that can seemingly be separated from their art- with others it's not so easy. R.Kelly was hiding in plain sight because all he sang about was sex and pushing boundaries. It's almost impossible in this context to separate R Kelly's art when he consistently uses this rhetoric like in "The Panties", hiding in the closet, the pied piper, etc.
That's why his art should be revolting because at this point the lyrics and the music videos are him telling on himself just using the music industry facade of consent and being of age

    • @juicyparsons

The other part of it is there's a sexual radicalizing that happens. I think mainstream/average consumers know about I believe I can fly and ignition and the big hits but listen to his albums and watching his videos shows you the story of his sexual deviance. Maybe we should interrogate when artists go down this sexual obsession pipeline. Trey Songz is going down this path, watch

Dr. Das, IMHO, your video does a disservice to one type of victims of R Kelly's abuse - the boys. Also, no mention of Kevin Spacey? Why not?
I'm a survivor of childhood sexual, physical and emotional abuse. Your omission hurts male survivors viscerally, like being ignored and shunted aside, like being victimized AGAIN! I'm hope that isn't what you intended when you made this.

"like being victimised again' . How in the hell can you even suggest you're a victim of this video. Wise up and grow up.

Dude. I'm sorry for your traumatic experiences but you've missed the point of this video subject matter entirely and are going on a subjective tangent. Dr Das never said that R Kelly did not abuse males and nor is Kevin Spacey relevant to this topic. Furthermore the latter is yet to be found guilty of any crimes and deserves the presumption of innocence. All my love and respect goes to you mate regardless. Please know that I am also a survivor of male on male abuse.
