My friend lived in the west end as a child, she remembers how the kids disliked Jimmy Saville and used to tease him even pull his hair when they saw him, apparently he was quite horrible and shoved them away when they asked for autographs, only nice in front of the cameras. They banned Johnny Rottens interview, which is so telling and beyond disgusting that they let him get away with it.
Not just Johnny Rotten, there's an amazing comedian called Jerry Sadowitz that had a BBC series, *had* in the past tense, once he mentioned that Jimmy Savile was a paedophile, that was him, done.
I watched the Netflix Jimmy Savile documentary with a blend of curiosity, trepidation, and utter revulsion. That he got away with his many sexual crimes for so long speaks to his narcissistic sense of entitlement and the public's irrational fascination with the plasticized world of celebrities and entertainment. Over here in Germany Jimmy Savile has never been as famous or popular as he has been in the UK, but I knew his face, name and "persona" and of course I knew "Top of the Pops". But I hadn't fully understood HOW popular and well connected he has been before his crimes became public after his death. It puzzles me how he could get away with all the horrible stuff he has done to other people. When I learned that he even had "free acess" to hospitals and psych wards, I couldn't believe it at first. And he did it hidden in plain sight...for decades. He truely groomed the entire British society, from working class teens all the way up to the royals. It's a pretty unique case, though Michael Jackson probably did something similiar, but on a global scale. But if he did, MJ didn't have as many victims as "the creepy old cigar muncher". Over 400 people were molested and/or sexually assaulted by Savile.. What a monstrous criminal this guy has been.
@@hannahcollings6358 Yes, of course he COULD have had even more victims, but given that he is gone for more than ten years now, I find it hard to believe that he had. By now more of his victims and more withness should be encouraged enough to speak up, especially considering the #metoo-movement, the success of "Leaving Neverland" and all that. But I guess we'll never know for sure.
MJ didn't have ANY victims. He was acquitted in a USA court of law. All of the so called victims were after his money. The first case was brought by the dad via the civil court thus violating MJ's Constutional rights for defense. Thus, MJ setteled out of court. The second case, the tables had been turned. A civil case can not be filed until AFTER the criminal case. The two current idiots on the HBO special are ADULTS who have failed in life and are using their affiliation with MJ to go after money in the estate. There's a great 4 part video on UA-cam if you're at all interested in the truth. MJ wasn't just one of the most talented entertainers of an eara, he was a very good business man who was unfortunately, robbed by managers and banks that did shady deals, putting him in debt, that in the end, killed him.

The insulation JS built around his blatant offending is astounding! It also reminded me of the more recent and even more disturbing Ian Watkins from the Lost Prophets. It’s so difficult to wrap my head around how these offenders operate in plain view and manipulate others into assisting them.

It was the culture of the day. The young girls were called ‘groupies’ and wanted to be noticed. I am sure they had no idea what could actually happen to them. They danced around the stage and just wanted to be noticed by a pop star or someone famous. also bear in mind that 15 was the school leaving age so a lot of them were working girls and some pretending to be older.

I haven't seen the Untouchable video yet. But your comment on Jimmy doing charity work to get closer to people was quite interesting. In the Netflix version, they suggested that he did charity work to balance out the bad he had done, because he was a Catholic and in effect, wanted to guarantee himself a space in heaven. Bit like saying, 'well, here is a rape that I did, but raising a million for charity counteracts that...'. Do you think that is wrong then?

In Catholic belief, your good deeds are used at your judgement by God when he determines whether you are admitted to Heaven or consigned to Hell. There is also an old Catholic folk saying "God says, take what you want, and PAY for it". Jimmy Saville seems to have absorbed his Roman Catholic upbringing and tried to twist its teachings into loopholes to avoid his final damnation. Saville himself spoke to interviewers and said that he hoped he had done enough good in the world to outweigh any evil deeds and he mentioned a ledger with his good deeds and his bad deeds measured against each other and he would be admitted to Heaven because the good outweighed the bad. He then went on and made jokes about threatening violence to get in. He always got away with revealing his real intentions and beliefs by mixing them with jokes and absurdity. I think I've seen two interviews where he referred to his good deeds and going to Heaven. So his Roman Catholic upbringing and his knighting by the Pope where his charity work and volunteering was acknowledged and rewarded by God's representative on Earth (if you are a Roman Catholic) meant a great deal to him. The knighthood from the Queen and Prince Charles's friendship was Social Advancement and acceptance and solidified his place in the Establishment: but the Pope's knighthood went higher for him and fed into his need for forgiveness and hope of ultimate salvation. He was also found with his arms and fingers crossed when his body was discovered; so he had prepared his body to emphasise his hope that he would be allowed into Heaven. Saville spent his life trying to buy his way into Heaven. He used those good works, charitable deeds and £40million raised to "pay" for his abuses and the more abuse and sins he committed, the more he worked to offset his crimes.
I'm surprised, considering your profession, that you've unquestionably accepted some of the details in the UA-cam documentary, which at points comes across as merely anecdotal. Your material remains interesting nevertheless.

In answer to your question why did Saville do so much volunteering and fund raising for charity?
All the documentaries I've seen give the information that Saville was born into and raised a Roman Catholic.
Many people nowadays have no religious beliefs but in Christian belief, Protestant Churches teach that belief and acceptance of Christ's sacrifice alone brings salvation of the soul.
