Yes, been looking forward to you discovering this one! This is about as heavy as Nightwish gets, and they sure make the most of the chance to show off their chops.
As far as Emppu’s foot in the monitor solos.. honestly I think he just does it cause he’s a pretty small dude who is fairly chill. So when it’s is moment to take the spotlight he gets on his throne at the front fo the stage for the spotlight and shreds away in humble comfort. Obviously that’s just a lot of conjecture and just my opinion, but that’s the vibe I get from all his shows.
Talking about Emppu and his EV-1... As far as i know: if you look at him in early years he had it placed on his stomach, then mid 2000 it went down to his groin. Not for sure, but it might be he feel more for having it low while riffing and chugging, while soloing having it high for better control?
I think so too. Having the guitar resting on your leg, gives more stability. Emppu surely doesn't need it, but it fits when you look him during a solo. He gives even the easiest solo's all of his attention.
beeing almost as short as Emppu (he is 5,3, iam 5,5) i often do rest the Guitar on my knee when i play solos (wich i dont do often as i am actually keyboard player^^) as a standart size Guitar strap if friggin big now a days^^ when the "normal German" is 5,9 or even 6 feet tall^^...my 5 cents
Yep, no pinch and that is why she is called the Valkyrie Goddess of Metal and Empathy 😍🤩😍🤩😍 and Marko is of course the mighty Viking 😎😎😎😎 Side note: she had only 1 year of opera training.... what a prodigious talent..😍
Hopefully someone in your Patreon will elevate "Yours is an Empty Hope" as you seriously need to hear that one. Be sure to use Wembley or Mexico City and not the crappy Baltic Cruise version. The band does their usual great stuff on the cruise version, but the video production is crap.
It's pronounced Em-poo essentially. Great review and a fitting score. Floor and Tuomas actually have headbanging competitions during certain songs, both are very competent at it too.
Just a friendly correction. When pronounced correctly Emppu has no "poo" in it, but instead it has a "PP" 🤭. In Finnish everything is pronounced as it is written. So because there is only one U, but a double P in Emppu, it is "Emp-pu", or as you write it in English, "Emp-po". (*Emppu is actually not his real name, just a nickname). But I know that Finnish is not the easiest language for English speakers to pronounce and it really isn't a big deal if you don't get the pronunciation 100% right. And the "poo" makes the name a lot funnier and reflects perfectly Emppu's fun-loving personality.
Yep .. this band surprised me when I first listened to them ... and they continue to surprise me ... all their work is different yet each song is perfectly written, played and performed
Hey, Big Dave. GREAT reaction! Awesome. The reason Emppu puts his foot up for solos is because he wears his guitar really low. Love your "Hey, it's my show." bit with the pigs. Cracks me up every time. 😂😂😂 Also, kudos to Floor the human air-raid siren!!! Peace out, my brother! 🤘😊🤘
In the original studio recording of this song it was 2 guy singers that did that end roll up through the octaves. I've been an avid listener to Nightwish since early 2000s. When I first heard this song, and that end part with Floor and Marco, I was blown away. Floor literally went from her lowest to absolute highest. I don't know if I've ever heard that from any other singer ever, honestly. When you watch the documentary "Please learn the set list in 48 hours" which is about why Floor came into singing for Nightwish full time and 2 days before this show. She said after the initial singing of the songs where she got comfortable practicing with the band she said she started to do add some of her own flavor to the songs. And the band really enjoyed it. She added her own twist and spin on these songs since Tarja was 100% operatic, and Annette was a pop like singer. Floor can do everything. Even full blown death metal growling! O_o Yes there is one Nightwish song where she does growl. :) Can't wait to see you react on that one lol. 2013 Waken was easily one of the best performances they've ever put on. Absolutely amazing! Thanks for your reacts!
More Nightwish reactions would be amazing. This band with the Valkyrie Queen Floor Jansen have reached higher levels in the Symphonic Metal genre and raising the bar much higher 🙌🏻🤟🏻🔥🔥🎤🎸👏🏻💪🏻
Shes been windmilling for 20 + yrs....still does it in her 40s , even though she said she was going to slow it down a bit ....she hasnt . Do " song of myself " next to hear nice blending of Floor and Marko
Hey man! Loving all your reactions, I think you are one of the most honest and for sure knowledgeable reactors there are out there. It's great how you comment those little subtleties that make songs awesome. Being a music lover, I must recommend you hear Nightwish's tribute to Pink Floyd with the songs High Hopes, sung entirely by Marco. And I say tribute purposefully, it's not just a cover, you will see. Keep up! Greetings from spain.
Thank you Home Gnome! My friend, you will find that Marko has much more vocally. He was the lead singer for his previous band. Tarot. Emppu does not always use the monitor. However, he does like to use it often. He is rather short at 5"3" and maybe that has something to do with it? No worries about Tuomas rocking out. You seemed impressed with "The Grand Glissando" from Marko and Floor? Marko went up pretty high, but then Floor took it to the stratosphere! It is Em-poo. Nickname for Erno Matti Juhani Vuorinen. All hail General Floor! From your commentary, I think you will love many of Nightwish' songs. Loved it again David! Well entertained and I agree with all of your comments. We done. Peace.
I say wow every time I hear Nightwish with Floor as the vocalist. Amazing. Song of Myself from this Wacken show along with Storytime and Everdream from Wacken needs to be on the list.
So much fun to watch this reaction. I've watched the Wacken show several times, and I believe that's Floor's highest note of the show. This song really rocks. Thanks, DH.
Yes, this is why that list was so long. This song checks all the boxes. Emppu shreds, Marko sings, and the slide. Everything you wanted to see them do, they did.
More Marco's singing: Ghost River, Ever Dream, I Want My Tears Back, Song of Myself, Wish I Had an Angel, Last Ride of the Day Wacken 2013 (and more to come in other shows)
21:15 ... you being silent and pensive for a while wondering what happend and being speechless is the best reaction of all. Always enjoy your reactions David!
Love the review. Thanks Gnome. The thing floor does with her hair is called a "Dutch Windmill" (Floor is Dutch) or "Windmilling". She has perfected it. She has mentioned that she places her hands on her hips as to not stress her neck. Other operatic vocal reactors (Maggie) have tried to duplicate it and have found it really loosens them up and relieves stress 😀. You've got the hair to give it a try too...
Hi mr David. Thanks for reacting to Nightwish again 🥰 I really love your reactions to them and wait patiently for the next one. If you ever get to "Yours is an empty hope" you will experience how well the voices of Floor and Marko fit together. Even to the point that you'll question who's singing what 😀 Your patrion members will probably already told you that The Islander is a treat if you want to hear a fantastic Marko solo, please make sure you take the video with subtitles because he speaks Finnish (is that the right word?) in that one.... Greatings from a Dutch member of the NWA 🤘🏻🥳
I love your reactions, your scoring, and your reasoning! I am so excited to see your reaction to Marco's singing and bass playing when you get to review Greatest Show on Earth! I know it will happen eventually, and I am waiting for that day.
As a guitar player, I think he rest the guitar on his leg for those reasons: - the guitar could have a lot of gain and he wants to be precise on those notes, especially in solos, so resting on his legs make it very comfortable and precise to play. - make tapping easier - also easier and precisely to use the Floyd rose (he uses it a lot) - he’s short, resting on he’s legs give him more space to play. I think those are the reasons. He used to play very close to his chest at the very first albums, changing afterwards. Anyways, great reviews, I hope you’re enjoying! Take care!
Hey, just letting you know that Ayreon is released a new track for the upcoming Star one album featuring Irene Jansen and Steve Vai, official lyrical video from their newest album, Floor Jansen will probably be on the next show, awesome thanks 😊 request 😎2021 or 2022 , Irene Jansen is Floor Jansen sister. Thanks 😊
Another good reaction, Dave! Full of wise words and info. And the reason Emppu stands on the monitor, is so the crowd can see him, as he's a short-ass! :o)
Loved the reaction, this song is sick; and yeah, he doesn't do it too often, but every time that Marco sings is a classic: islander, phantom of the opera, and high hopes are some of his best.
I know it's easy to claim it after the fact but I thought you'd give it a 9.2 before you gave the score. I enjoyed the reaction a lot and look forward to seeing more Nightwish from you. Would personally like seeing Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean live in Buenos Aires
LOVE THIS REVIEW> Friggin awesome. The guitar players name is actually spelled Emppu. Emppu's name is pronounced like EHM-poo. Hope that helps!! And he and Tuomas are the two remaining founding members of Nightwish. As far as his knee up on the monitor, I just think thats his thing. I mean he isnt very tall LOL he is the shortest person in the band, and his guitar strap is a bit low so, cant say I blame him LOL Dude your amazing. Thanks for reviewing this. And I am so happy you loved it. AWESOME!!!!
About Emppu on the guitar. Yes he more or less always put his foot up on the monitor during his solos. Now I have no idea but maybe it has to do with the fact that in the early days of Nightwish, he used to have his guitar much higher up on his body. So maybe during solos that is his comfort zone.
Empuu generally sets it on his knee because he's using both hands for quite a bit of it. He'll mute certain strings and things like that. If Floor's a powerhouse, she and Marco could power a small city.
Looooool, David read them all, the whole Nightwish army on UA-cam... about 10 million members and these are only the hardcore fans, looool. I thought David had to read all the names out by Christmas............next year :-)))) Great reaction as always. What will David say to Floor's growling?
Marko can sing, Empuu normally solos with his right foot on the monitor(Marko does it too-Dead Boy's Poem-Buenos Aries 2018) a great song!! And Floor can go from Contralto to top Soprano(4 octaves). I've heard many singers in my 70 years of listening to music but Floor Jansen imho is the most versatile singer(Opera to Metal)in any genre except Thruvian throat singing.
Dark Chest of Wonders is quite underrated song from them. It was actually my most favorite song around 15 years ago, together with ghost love score. I can't even count how many times I listened to "Once" album when it was released back in 2004...
@@JohnDoe-zk4rm and what does that actually mean? According to your own words, you think "other people rate it enough", meaning it doesn't need more rating than it does, so it's NOT that good in your opinion.. Maybe you should check what underrated means, before you write nonsense? Truth is that while I have been following this band for tens of years, the song has not been fanfavorite. I mean everyone likes it, but it's not fan favorite. When "Once" album was released, back then everyone were more into songs like, "Ghost love score"(25 million views), "wish I had an angel"(36 million views) and "Nemo"(47 million views), and still are. Dark chest of wonders has no video more than 4 mil views in any video, and it never even had official music video. Having the guitar resting on your leg, gives more stability.
Emppu surely doesn't need it, but it fits when you look him during a solo.
He gives even the easiest solo's all of his attention.
Just like 99% of classical guitarists do
beeing almost as short as Emppu (he is 5,3, iam 5,5) i often do rest the Guitar on my knee when i play solos (wich i dont do often as i am actually keyboard player^^) as a standart size Guitar strap if friggin big now a days^^ when the "normal German" is 5,9 or even 6 feet tall^^...my 5 cents
@@goesman81 I am pretty sure Emppu could effort some custom straps or easily could get them sponsored, thats not the reason I think 😅
Yep, Emppu can shred but always goes the song first-attitude. Love it 🤘🔥
Yep, no pinch and that is why she is called the Valkyrie Goddess of Metal and Empathy 😍🤩😍🤩😍
and Marko is of course the mighty Viking 😎😎😎😎
Side note: she had only 1 year of opera training.... what a prodigious talent..😍
Hopefully someone in your Patreon will elevate "Yours is an Empty Hope" as you seriously need to hear that one. Be sure to use Wembley or Mexico City and not the crappy Baltic Cruise version. The band does their usual great stuff on the cruise version, but the video production is crap.
Wembley is easier to see what Floor is doing in the chorus.
@@markush1122 Haha, duly noted. He's a great guy.
The new bassist joins the party too 😁
@@samuelmalsawmkima6905 Floor no longer the tallest 🤩
Yep .. this band surprised me when I first listened to them ... and they continue to surprise me ... all their work is different yet each song is perfectly written, played and performed
Hey, Big Dave.
GREAT reaction! Awesome.
The reason Emppu puts his foot up for solos is because he wears his guitar really low.
Love your "Hey, it's my show." bit with the pigs. Cracks me up every time. 😂😂😂
Also, kudos to Floor the human air-raid siren!!!
Peace out, my brother! 🤘😊🤘
Marco's performance on their version of Phantom of the Opera is amazing.
Thanks Home Gnome you absolute legend!
Cheers Nostra!
This band is amazing and this is live to top it off. I love it!!
More Nightwish reactions would be amazing. This band with the Valkyrie Queen Floor Jansen have reached higher levels in the Symphonic Metal genre and raising the bar much higher 🙌🏻🤟🏻🔥🔥🎤🎸👏🏻💪🏻
Nightwhis IS full of surprises. Great procution all The Time
Thanks for reaction.
Thank you Home Gnome for this wonderful reaction!
Well it's DH's reaction, I just got it here faster!...
@@homegnome2429hence the thank you 😄
*Watching 'Welcome Nightwish Fans' video* OH! HE JUST POSTED 'ROMANTICIDE'!! YES!!
Shes been windmilling for 20 + yrs....still does it in her 40s , even though she said she was going to slow it down a bit ....she hasnt .
Do " song of myself " next to hear nice blending of Floor and Marko
The "does not compute" face you had on 21:00 was jusy *chef's kiss*. Great clip!
That's Emppu's style to do solo yes 👍
Good job ……….again 😁👍👍
I really love your honest opinion, I enjoyed it very much thank you
Thank you Home Gnome!
More Marco's singing: Ghost River, Ever Dream, I Want My Tears Back, Song of Myself, Wish I Had an Angel, Last Ride of the Day Wacken 2013 (and more to come in other shows)
Another excellent review/reaction from DH. You're one of the best. Nightwish Army, USA Division.
Nice, very high quality reaction.
Thanks, greetings from the Netherlands 🤘🏻❤️🇳🇱
Cheers and cool vid, Nightwish brought me your man, Rock on! \m/
21:15 ... you being silent and pensive for a while wondering what happend and being speechless is the best reaction of all. Always enjoy your reactions David!
Nightwish 2022 US Tour expanding First show 5-7-2022 Lowell, MA 5-7-2022 Tickets on sale now!
If you want to hear Marco sing more, try Ghost river (Wacken) or Devil and the deep dark ocean (Buenos Aires). Both fantastic and different songs!
I do it often while playing on stage, and the V, and the usual up and down.
@@THEDavidHeretic People can say what they like in the comments but until I actually see it...I don't know 😁
@@THEDavidHeretic Hell yeah, as a fellow long-haired man, been rocking the windmill at shows for over a decade \m/(* *)\m/
Lovin yer reviews brother..your passion makes it a rush
Thanks Dave. Another great reaction. Wish I was rich. You deserve more Nightwish in your life. We all do,
Brother I really dig your reactions. Passion for music🤘🤘
Hi mr David. Thanks for reacting to Nightwish again 🥰 I really love your reactions to them and wait patiently for the next one.
If you ever get to "Yours is an empty hope" you will experience how well the voices of Floor and Marko fit together. Even to the point that you'll question who's singing what 😀
Your patrion members will probably already told you that The Islander is a treat if you want to hear a fantastic Marko solo, please make sure you take the video with subtitles because he speaks Finnish (is that the right word?) in that one....
Greatings from a Dutch member of the NWA 🤘🏻🥳
Brillant reaction, thank you for this.
Yep.....They are tight...Sound Great....Look Great and having Fun on stage.
fun reaction like allways, thnx homenome, hope someone bumps up more nightwish up, prefferably greatest show on earth :D
I love your reactions, your scoring, and your reasoning!
I am so excited to see your reaction to Marco's singing and bass playing when you get to review Greatest Show on Earth! I know it will happen eventually, and I am waiting for that day.
As a guitar player, I think he rest the guitar on his leg for those reasons:
- the guitar could have a lot of gain and he wants to be precise on those notes, especially in solos, so resting on his legs make it very comfortable and precise to play.
- make tapping easier
- also easier and precisely to use the Floyd rose (he uses it a lot)
- he’s short, resting on he’s legs give him more space to play.
I think those are the reasons. He used to play very close to his chest at the very first albums, changing afterwards.
Anyways, great reviews, I hope you’re enjoying! Take care!
Nightwish and Floor doing their thing!
Always great!
Thanks 😊
Maybe next devil &deep dark ocean live buones Aires??
Another good reaction, Dave! Full of wise words and info. And the reason Emppu stands on the monitor, is so the crowd can see him, as he's a short-ass! :o)
Can't wait to see you react to Ghost River
😋
Finally !!!
That one is very similar to Romanticide in terms of heaviness and operatic/rock mix, imo and is one of my favourites.
AWESOME!!!!
Liked their song bye bye baby a lot.
Bye Bye Beautiful
@@helky8 thanks.
Keyboard player definitely has presence. He is the leader of the band
Dark Chest of Wonders is quite underrated song from them. It was actually my most favorite song around 15 years ago, together with ghost love score. I can't even count how many times I listened to "Once" album when it was released back in 2004...
maybe underrated for you but not for the rest of us
@@JohnDoe-zk4rm and what does that actually mean? There's some facts for you. it was never highly rated song from that album by PUBLIC opinion. I personally have always rated it high.
@@markoviitanen2671 Not gonna read that. Been a Nightwish fan in Norway for over 20 years and Dark chest of wonders is one of the all-time favourites for me and everyone i know, blast of a song and not underrated at all
Yesss, I love you David !
Anyway, you should listen High hopes
Pink Floyd cover❣️(Marco singing 😉)
FEELIN' YOU Ludmila!!!
20:47 - yeah, that was me too. It's like three octaves up and one down again. Insane.
Oh yes, that's technically called a very high. I'm an expert.
For a non-monitor-supported solo, check out I Want My Tears Back (Buenos Aires) or any of the Tampere songlist.
"Tuomas rocking out more than the rest of the band "...see " 7 days to the wolves" 😆😂 épic!...he and Floor almost flays of the stage
Hurry up with the Nightwish reactions! If only got another 10 years to live. Fuck. :)
Thumbs up for the Mel Brooks intro alone!
I would love to see your reaction to Ghost River from this same concert.
You graduated! Your ready for poet and the pendulum..but personally..I want STORYTIME! Please and thank you
Nice David , just one thing when Floor head bangs its called Windmilling cause Floor`s Dutch .
That slide at the end went three octaves.
she can do a F with ease and floor has a range so good
I won't comment on anything specific, everytime I do I get something wrong, and I get jumped. Obviously they're one of probably the best 5 bands in the world, Floor and everyone else is amazing. If there's a bad Nightwish song, any line up, I've not heard it. Great reaction!
