After finally arriving in Greenland, the crew of the Marie Tharp team up with visiting oceanographers to map the local uncharted glacial fjords. Will a piece of ice, a broken propeller, and a surprise haul out in Nuuk stop Captain Matt Rutherford and his crew?

All life requires a healthy Ocean to survive. The Ocean Research Project (ORP) is dedicated to scientific exploration under sail in pursuit of the knowledge necessary to better understand human-induced stress on the Ocean. We are forging a new path of discovery by combining modern technology with age-old efficiency to create lower-cost research expeditions that provide an effective alternative to the more costly, big science paradigm. ORP’s research objectives are from close collaborations with scientists focusing on the most critical environmental issues.
After Matt Rutherford finished his record-making, solo circumnavigation of the Americas, he knew sailing was his passion. He was determined to find a way to use this passion to give something back to the Ocean. In 2012, Matt founded Ocean Research Project (ORP), a nonprofit organization based in Annapolis, Maryland. Since its founding, ORP has been dedicated to reversing humanity’s negative impact on the Ocean through science, exploration, and education.

These videos are great. The thumbnail for this episode, with Matt's floating head, was strangely unnerving. Lol! Great stuff everyone, and let's hope you have enough footage from the current trip to stitch something together.

Thanks for producing these. Listen to Matt’s podcast and it’s great to see the expedition captured in video. What a nightmare getting there! Looking forward to the rest.

Just a suggestion for one of the next videos maybe: A little boat tour could be nice :D Last one was when things were still under construction!

These videos are fantastic. The scenery is breathtaking but the footage of you guys on the boat just doing whatever you're doing is my favorite. Keep it up!

Enjoyed your channel! Just Subscribed.I’m trying to convince my wife that a circumnavigation is a great retirement project and went so far as to even start a little channel (@NavalGazingatCampDavid) to sell her on the life style….desperate times and all that. Lol. Thanks again for the great content. I have a whoooole new appreciation for the time and care it takes to create these episodes!

A long time ago when I was in junior high school world history taught explorers of the Columbus, Drake, Magellan era went off looking for the northwest passage. Climate is constantly changing. Wish I could get the world to finance my sailing while I hawk global warming crisis. Dude I respected you when you sailed non stop around the Americas but now I have my doubts.

I agree that we have been lied to, but ORP is researching/ gathering data using a very responsible platform. Gathering data. Scientists that come on board represent their own views not what I've heard from ORP. Research this group first. Maybe that was just an ideologic response.

The climate needs monitoring, so it needs people to gather the data and that costs money. I bet Matt wished the world WAS financing his sailing, but it isn't. As for your 'climate is always changing'`comment...mate, there's enough data out there for the climate experts to come to their conclusions. How you personally take those conclusions does not affect the data.
