Movie scores made for the movie tend to be more relevant to the story, emotional, and just plain more creative in many instances. And movies can always have plenty of different sounds and vibes. Horror movies have been doing great in this respect, with insidious, Hereditary, It Follows, IT, recent Halloween movies have been giving a creative twist on the original music, and of course you have gaming soundtracks that are absolutely phenomenal
Remember The Matrix soundtrack? To me it was mindblowing at the time. Ministry, Marylin Manson, Deftones, Prodigy, Rob Zombie... and Linkin Park and P.O.D. in the sequel caught that industrial/cyberpunk vibe from those days
i only recently saw the matrix for the first time (i was kinda scared off by all the hype) and yeah was not expecting to hear ministry, prodigy and rage against the machine during that watch. i definitely felt a little mindblown
@@timewave02012 and I've just also remembered Underworld: Evolution. Saw only the second part of the series, but damn the soundtrack was impressive. Alkaline Trio, Aiden, Hawthorne Heights, Trivium, Atreyu and many more - though some of them were remixed versions, it's just not possible to imagine such a lineup in any movie these days. I guess it would be considered too edgy or trying-too-hard to look cool now, but in 00's it all seemed totally natural
I just got the CD 💿 of Romeo + Juliet and I was furious they never put Creep by Radiohead in the soundtrack. It was a sub par soundtrack. The only song I liked was Garbage’s I Would Die For You.
I believe the biggest reason we don't see as many iconic movie sound tracks is because it is MUCH cheaper for films to create original sound tracks for their films instead of paying for all the copyright fees to get big name songs in their films. That's especially why you NEVER see big hits in low-budget films anymore. It's also another reason we don't see much copyrighted music in video games either anymore. It's just way too expensive sadly.

That's not a new thing. It's a very old and ongoing thing for a movie to have its own music and there are plenty of memorable and timeless soundtracks in that vein.
*LEST WE FORGET* The Natural Born Killers and Lost Highway soundtracks, which are cohesive journeys into the vibe of the movie, many of the individual songs edited differently than the regular album cuts of the singles. One *HAD TO* listen to the album front to back!
Wow, no mention of The Crow soundtrack? That's like a top 3 movie soundtrack -- at least for the 90's. Definitely fits your criteria. What that movie and its soundtrack did for the goth and industrial scene in the mid-90's can't be denied.
The Freddy vs Jason soundtrack was full of metal bangers. Can't forget The Crow, Natural Born Killers, Lost Highway, Seven, Dazed and Confused, The Big Lebowski, road trip, American Pie, Not another teen movie, etc all great sountracks. All different genres that were good albums. Even video games like tony hawk and madden had good soundtracks.
I was the kid in the two thousands stuck in the 60s 70s and 90s. So it’s so weird to consider the two thousands even the past lol. I couldn’t stand everything on the radio when I was a kid. 2000s pop sucked most of the emo sucked, most of pop punk sucked
i realise its the wrong crowd but the first twilight soundtrack was very well put together and very influential. "indie-music" (also NOT very well received at this channel, i know) was already popular back then, but the twilight soundtrack introduced people to bands like muse or lykke li. to this day those songs are heavily used in tik toks and very muched tied to the whole franchise
I think you missed out on how shows like The OC, One Tree hill and Gilmore girls had a massive impact. Just in 2000 I think they also showed the formate for putting song in shows like the example you used in stranger things
It’s crazy how good the soundtrack to Batman and Robin was. Considering the quality of the movie. Spawn also has a killer soundtrack. Most of those duets really worked well.
The first "Black Panther" and "Into the Spiderverse" soundtracks were big. They both had #1 hits from artist like Kendrick Lamar, SZA, Jay Rock, Post Malone, Vince Staples, etc. When those movies were in theaters, I had a hard time not hearing the songs everywhere. Especially the Black Panther ST because it came at the height of TDE dominating hip hop.
One film with a classic soundtrack you missed out was ‘Office Space’ I would say that’s an example of a film with a soundtrack that made a genre go mainstream in cinema, in that case gangsta rap
Judgement Night, the Crow, Dracula 2000, and the Friday soundtrack were among my all time favorites, and often eclipsed the movie itself. They really don't make em like that anymore.
So glad you made a video on this topic! I’ve been wondering the same thing and it’s quite disappointing. A couple years ago I went on this late 90’s/early 00’s movie kick and most of them, no matter how bad some were, I remembered based off of their soundtrack. Most movies nowadays just don’t prioritize that and it results in them feeling empty. Moreover, they lack an identity in a way.
I think the transition from John Williams type scores to the more atmospheric Hans Zimmer type scores has also played a role in original music becoming more background music than pieces with memorable hooks. Zimmer and Reznor soundtracks are great to listen to while you're focusing on something else, but I doubt people can hum their pieces the way they can with iconic John Williams pieces.
I have a lot of soundtracks in my cd collection. The Crow soundtrack Spawn The Saint Judgement Night Grease. Etc I definitely miss having a good soundtrack to listen to.. now you’ll get one or two singles but it’s rare you get a full classic like you did in the past
I've never seen the Lara Croft Tomb Raider film but it was so heavily promoted that Korn and U2 made a music videos that where a collaboration with this film . In the golden age of MTV this was like the best promotion for a film .
YES! I remember the "Did My Time" Korn music video and "Elevation" by U2. Early to mid 2000's was the peak of Nu Metal on popular movie soundtracks just look at Queen Of The Damned and the first Resident Evil or just rock music in general e.g. Spiderman 1-3 and Daredevil (the springboard for Evanescence).
Here's another thing I just remembered about movie soundtracks: It used to be common that a song would be remembered well but the movie all but forgotten. The best example I can think of is "Iris" by the Goo Goo Dolls, it's the second most played song of the 90s on Spotify beaten only by Smells Like Teen Spirit and EVERYONE has heard it and it's still regularly played today...but it's from a soundtrack to a movie called City of Angels that never gets talked about today aside from in relation to the song. And not only that but the song was directly inspired by the movie, Johnny Reznik wrote it from the perspective of Nicholas Cage's character in the movie, and yet today very few people are familiar with the movie at all even if they listen to the song a lot.
Happened also with Armageddon and it’s song I don’t wanna miss a thing. That song gave Aerosmith its first number 1 on the charts and the song got nominated for the Oscars but the film no one remembers it. Or again if they remember it it’s because Of the song. Another case Blaze of glory from the movie young guns 2. The song really a big hit the film it’s one of the least remembered westerns. Or if people remember it it’s because Jon Bon Jovi did the soundtrack.
@@themacattack540 I can't say I'm surprised. As I recall, Iris left the charts about the same time Slide entered. If you don't remember Iris being in the soundtrack, you could very easily make that mistake.
There are so many exceptional movie soundtracks from the 90s - more than worth mentioning what you "missed", but there were some TV shows that heavily featured music back in the 90s and early 2000s. In particular, I especially think of The OC and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The latter show often featuring alternative bands on screen: Cibo Matto, Aimee Mann, Biff Naked, Michelle Branch, and The Breeders come to mind.
I also noticed that songs made for movies, such as Born To Be Wild by Steppenwolf from Easy Rider, I Don't Wanna Miss A Thing by Aerosmith from Armageddon, I Do It For You by Bryan Adams from 1991 Robin Hood, My Heart Will Go On by Celine Dion from Titanic, etc.,were common in earlier decades (especially in the 90s),but are now rare. Theme songs too, lots of older movie franchises had iconic theme songs, from James Bond, The Great Escape, The Magnificent Seven and the Dollars trilogy back in the 60s,to The Godfather, Jaws, Star Wars, Rocky, Halloween and Superman in the 70s,to Indiana Jones, Terminator, Beverly Hills Cop, Back To The Future and Batman in the 80s,to Jurassic Park, Mission Impossible and Pulp Fiction in the 90s,to Pirates Of The Caribbean and Harry Potter in the 2000s,but in the 10 or so years the only iconic movie theme song I know of is from the Avengers. I kinda miss those trends from previous decades.
Well, if you're willing to go that far back, then we have to mention soundtracks that literally shaped the musical zeitgeist in their time, such as Saturday Night Fever, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Top Gun, Dirty Dancing, Purple Rain, and most of the soundtracks of the films by Quentin Tarantino and John Hughes.
Man, I remember how many times I played the Queen of the Damned soundtrack back then. Truly an all time great soundtrack with the who's who from the nu metal and written by Jonathan Davis. Those were the days.
Tremendous topic! Titanic, The Bodyguard, ROCKY...those soundtracks have legendary songs and legacy listens. It's a lost art for a movie score or soundtrack these days to go on and stand the test of time with massive breakthrough singles. The problem is two fold - music discovery process is broken and film releases are too fragmented.
One of the best movie soundtracks in my opinion was the Queen of the Damned soundtrack, Johnathon Davis wrote some of the songs, my god it is still one of favourites to this day.
Hey Finn - this was a solid piece. Brought a heap of nostalgia but really shined a light on the change-up of the soundtrack. Hellofalota work you did here. Congrats!
The crow, crow:city of angels, lost highway, spawn, and the first 2 resident evil movies had great soundtracks. I haven't listened to most of them in years, so i don't know if they hold up, but i loved them at the time.
I remember soundtracks like Judgement Night, The Crow, Singles, Tales from the Crypt: Demon Knight…. the there were those tribute compilations. Either they had a common theme (Saturday morning cartoons), or were dedicated to musicians (Hendrix, Kiss, the Carpenters, etc). Horror movie soundtracks in the 90’s always included one or two well-known artists, then a bunch of unknowns that the label tried to force feed the consumer- always with names like Socket of Sodom, Sufferbutt, or Dr. Stinkfinger.
A couple other tribute compilations that slipped my mind include those dedicated to Roky Erikson (Where the Pyramid meets the Eye) and Black Sabbath (Nativity in Black). These had some great stuff from Butthole Surfers, Pantera, Faith No More and others. Zeppelin had a tribute album too, it was patchy though.
Another interesting tidbit; a lot of those old songs that are getting big placement in shows and movies are owned by investment groups. I remember listening to a "Today Explained" episode about the recent spike in that kind of investment, and how the groups who do it then go on to maximize the profit by getting the old song placement.
The prestige TV-shows of the golden era were concurrent with a lot of smaller budget shows that featured an amazing amount of indie band of varying genres. The canonical example is of course the OC and Death Cab. But it was also huge for a lot of these minor bands to be able to feature in real tv-shows, while the tv producers were happy to be able to fit contemporary, actual bands in their shows. It’s, of course, not the same as the heyday of movie soundtracks featuring bands, and there weren’t really original songs written outside of the odd theme song, but it’s like a smaller budget echo of it. (And god I mined those shows for great songs😂)
I'm a big movie buff, always have been. I grew up around movie buffs. My grandfather was the biggest movie buff, and thanks to him and his massive movie collection and hoarding I got to see a ton of movies. Classics like Alien, Aliens, CHUD, Killer klowns from outerspace, Friday the 13th, Predator, Pet Semetary 1-2, Starship troopers, Class of Nuke'em high, etc. For the past two decades I've largely been relying on "comfort food" movies. Mainly 70's and 80's movies. I basically consider movies and horror especially going down hill post 1999. There really are about 18 movies from the 2000's that I actually like. I was 13 when 9/11 happened in 2001. And all through out the 2000's, as a horror fan and movie fan I was like "Man, the 90's really is over uh? Movies suck now. Horror sucks now." Because ya, I still watched 90's horror when it came out. Only in recent years have I gone back to watch what I missed, or what I had forgotten during the 90's. I was also that guy from Woodstock 1999 telling MTV "I'm sick of the Backstreet boys on MTV live. I'm f**king sick of that sh*t." I WAS THAT GUY. I was sick and tired of Britney Spears, The backstreet boys, NSYNC, etc all over the radio, and all over MTV. For me it was Jack off Jill, Korn, Rammstein, Orgy, I.C.P, Eminem, Tool, MSI, etc. I got into Marilyn Manson, Acid bath, Cannibal Corpse, Electric Wizard, etc a few years later. In late 2000's. When ever Eminem would bash boy bands "I'm sick of you little girl and boy groups, all you do is annoy me. So I have been sent here to destroy you." I'd cheer. It was like "Ya, Eminem hates that mainstream sh*t too!" By the way, Madonna is awesome! I love Madonna. I've recently gotten into Madonna, Blondie, Abba, and Cyndi Lauper. I've been a long time fan of Leslie Gore too. Love Leslie Gore. Of course in terms of 2000's music I was into Kotton mouth kings, Hollywood undead, Tech n9ne, Gorerotted, The birthday massacre. Those types of bands and groups. Of course I was also into the American pie movies. I love 70's and 80's exploitation films. Slasher films. Horror movies. Teen dramas, etc. Back in the 90's; Seal's Kiss of the rose in Batman forever, Everything I do [I do it for you] by Bryan Adams; I rewound the VHS tape so many times just to listen and watch the music video over and over and over and over again. Of course Will Smith in Men in black, and his song Men in black. Gangsters paradise by Coolio from Dangerous minds. My mom actually bought and owned the soundtrack to the movie.....then you got all these 70's and 80's movies, slasher movies with their own soundtracks and songs. Songs made just for the movie. My bloody Valentine, Happy birthday to me, Sleepaway camp, etc. Satanic panic heavy metal horror movies with their own soundtracks. 70's giallo with their 70's synth music soundtracks. And ya, 2000's movies like American pie, Eurotrip, etc. All awesome soundtracks. Love Scotty doesn't know. Always loved the band playing in the club in the film 10 things I hate about you, although that was 1999. but whatever. That was always my favorite scene in the film; Club skunk. Then I watch a modern movie, I watch a modern slasher movie and it's like "Where is the soundtrack?!" "where is the sound of the environment?" horror movies; they are OBSESSED with this bland boring, bluish tint, ugly navy blue all over the entire film. Every character is wearing navy blue. Just this ugly blue tint and ugly color palettes. Modern films just have this ugly look to them, the lighting, out of focus, etc. Also, I did get into Kate Bush this year, but it was by accident. I discovered her song hammer horror while looking up songs to listen to for October, lol. So ya, despite trying to give modern movies more of a chance...they are just not as good as 70's, 80's, 90's movies. Not even 2000's movies and it isn't just "a soundtrack" from a totally different artist. I am talking about the creators of the film hiring somebody to do a soundtrack JUST FOR THE FILM. The soundtracks they do come up with for a modern film are boring and barely even used. Very few exceptions though, like Joker. The scenes where he's dancing and stuff like that. That had a good soundtrack. the slasher Sick, that had a pretty good soundtrack and used effectively. But that's pretty rare.
Spinning Gold has an awesome soundtrack. They had a bunch of musicians playing these iconic figures in rock and disco, so the soundtrack is full of covers, including Alex from All Time Low doing the best cover of Kiss’ Beth I’ve ever heard
The 5th Element had such a cool soundtrack. I bought that and the Hannibal soundtrack just for the opera scene. House of 1000 Corpses was obviously a good one too.
Hey Finn, you didn't mention Rza's work on the Kill Bill films!!! Epic pivot for Rza, great brilliance and awareness from Tarantino as well! Brilliant video though, for sure. Also see: The Crow and Fight Club!
I loved owning the soundtrack albums as well with the movies! My favorite soundtracks were Space Jam, the first Scooby Doo Movie, and the original Top Gun!
I remember I would hit the “Thank you” section in the album liner notes of a band I liked and they would usually thank other bands they knew or toured with. That’s how I would discover new music back in the mid to late 90s.
Great video, as always, but I think you should have mentioned "Trainspotting" too. It was one of the highest-grossing films of 1996, and its soundtrack (including songs by Iggy Pop, Lou Reed, Blur, Primal Scream, etc.) was so well received that it got a second part, with songs that were left out of the movie, but fit its overall vibe.
Best Film Soundtracks were Repo Man (1984), Return of the Living Dead (1985), Pump up the Volume (1990), Singles (1992), Natural Born Killers (1994), Clueless (1995), Empire Records (1995), Mallrats (1996), Strangeland (1998), Bride of Chucky (1998), Hedwig and the Angry Inch (2001).
Finn's taste in soundtracks seems to revolve around mall pop punk. For great blues, R&B and classic rock, there's nobody better than Scorsese and Tarantino. Their soundtracks are hand-picked, not assembled in a company boardroom. Repo Man is fantastic by the way!
@@AgentBeans Lost Highway is also one of the best soundtracks of all time and Greg Araki's Nowhere, SLC Punk, Judgement Night, Mortal Kombat, Romeo and Juliet, Tromeo and Juliet, SFW and High Fidelity.
So many soundtrack classics to me, Breakin', Phantom of Paradise, La Bamba, Singles, Spiderman. 8 Mile. I don't know if 300 Rise of Empire had a soundtrack, but Black Sabath War Pigs at the end credits was epic.
Loved this topic. I’d like to see some more videos from you about movie song or soundtrack tier lists or just talking more about specific ones, because so many were so great from the 90s etc
It’s crazy you come out with this video when I’ve literally had this on my mind in the past week. Bring back Blink 182 and Papa Roach esque sounds in movies 😩
... one thing and one thing only: Kids and teenagers doesn't care about music anymore, its a secondary element in the entertainment they consume, and the music they "hear" (they don't listen) are short extracts of 15 seconds in their TikTok reels... music has a different role in today's pop culture.
Man, I STILL listen to The Crow soundtrack several times a year. It has my favorite Cure, Machines of Loving Grace and Thrill Kill Kult songs. It also has great songs by more mainstream bands like Rage Against The Machine and Stone Temple Pilots and great cover songs by Nine Inch Nails and Pantera. And other great songs by Rollins Band, Helmet and Jesus and Mary Chain. That same year, the also-awesome Natural Born Killers soundtrack also came out and sits with The Crow as my favorite two soundtracks ever. This, with the Drive soundtrack and Ravenous's score are the only 4 soundtrack/scores I ever really listen to anymore.
Some fantastic soundtrack albums that i listened to a lot in my youth: Batman Forever The Crow The Matrix The last two are especially strong And let's not forget Tarantino's soundtracks up until Kill Bill!
I was introduced to many new bands thanks to movie soundtracks. Anyone else remember the sample CDs that would be inside rock music magazines? And the Ozzfest Summer Tour discs? (Also found inside rock/metal magazines!)
This is quite an interesting topic, you mentioned Judgement Night, I was a big Onyx fan back then, I saw they were on the OST so got it which then introduced me to Biohazard and I became a big fan of them, soundtracks are what opened up my mind to listening to other genres of music, as I was mostly a hiphop, drum n bass guy in my younger days, but films like The Crow really helped me discover new music, it's a lost art for sure.
Never ever forget all the great Enio Morricone Western movies soundtracks 💖 Anyway, Great analysis (Hope I sell that right, english not being my main language) Great work, always a pleasure to listen to your stuff.
The Mission, IMO, is a masterpiece of music. Beautiful and sad but excellent movie too. Marie Antoinette soundtrack, I think I play them on repeat constantly, and now my teenage daughter loves both the movie and soundtrack.
I’m glad that you mentioned Mortal Kombat Soundtrack. You weren’t going to find Techno Syndrome anywhere else back then but on that soundtrack. Lol I loved soundtracks because as many have said, it opened up the possibilities of listening to other artists before going to buy their entire album and sometimes the music made me interested in the movie or vice versa. Someone mentioned Romeo and Juliet soundtrack which was amazing. Quindon Tarver’s voice back then…🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽 The Great Gastby one was good, I liked the Kill Bill ones, Space Jam, and there’s many more that I haven’t mentioned but sometimes I did buy a soundtrack just to listen to one song but still give the entire soundtrack a chance since I had 11 other songs to listen to lol great topic
I agree to you Finn for the alternate scene. Some of my favorite soundtracks have come out in the last few years but they are in the sci-fi genre. Has Zimmer has some incredible work, Interstellar and Dune to name a few.
i love how anime soundtracks became popular in the mid 90s with dragon ball songs being stuck in our heads and also the modern times of anime was listening to suzume theme on repeat it makes my nut goes itching
Singles, Judgment Night, Mortal Kombat, and Clueless were all at least top 10 if not top 5 for the mix of where movies and music were at the time they came out, but The Crow soundtrack I've always thought was #1, goth and industrial were getting to be mainstream-ish and it fit the vibe of the movie like a tailored glove
Just a reminder: “New Slang” by The Shins appeared in a 2002 episode of Scrubs, a full two years before Garden State came out. This is where Zach Braff heard the song, as he was the lead on Scrubs, so no, he didn’t “discover” them.
The Natural Born Killers soundtrack is probably my all time favorite..The Matrix is a close 2nd. But I never really paid much attention to the soundtracks unless I happened to like a single that was released, or a song featured in the movie/credits. Fun childhood bit though, I had the Lion King soundtrack (it's called that but really it's the score) and I listened to it a lot. But I always had to skip the song that played during *that* scene because it always made me instantly cry. Solid chance 30 years later it still would. 🤣
Sequels, Reboots, and Super Hero Movies. Hit the nail on the head with that one. Those teen comedies defined my adolescence. They’re still fun to watch all these years later. Ugggh those were the GOOD DAYS!!!!! 😫
It seems games have more cool soundtracks today than any movie out there. I've been listening the Cyberpunk 2077 soundtrack since the end of 2020. Three freaking years. I think is the best of this kind of game soundtrack I ever listened to.
The Hard and the Heavy compilation album introduced me to Slipknot (spit it out) Static X (Wisconsin death trip) Staind (Raw) Limp Bizkit (Counterfeit) Kid Rock (I am the bullgod) etc... I know it's not a soundtrack album; i Just wanted to put it out there about the topic of discovering new bands. Great work Finn🔥
ik its not the usual rock but both the spider verse soundtracks are amazing. i still listen to them in the entirety multiple times a month glad to see them in the video
One of the reasons I think you forgot to mention is movies that prefer to use more ambient music scores and on the other hand movies/labels abusing this and overcrowding b tier movies with b tier music and making the whole experience c tier. Another thing to mention - video game soundtracks. Back in the day it was not possible for games to have decent soundtrack, unless you really like chiptune. Once that limitation fell, it was never not important for games to have soundtracks.
My first 4 CDs were Mortal Kombat, Escape from LA, Airheads, and The Crow City of Angels… that’s how I fell in love with Fear Factory, Korn, Deftones, and White Zombie
The Matrix Soundtrack - Linkin Park, Marilyn Manson, Rob Zombie, Fusion, Propellerheads, Ministry, Lunatic Calm, The Prodigy, Rob Dougan, Deftones, POD, Rage Against The Machine, Fluke, Don Davis, Juno Reactor, Rammstein 🤟
Shout out to Kendrick for producing and curating the black panther movie soundtrack in 2018, album debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200 with 154,000 equivalent album units, including 52,000 from pure album sales. Merge AFRICAN CULTURE BLM & BLACK EXCELLENCE at a time when Police Brutality was in the mainstream being discussed.
Movie soundtracks were the first form of music i got into. Before i liked specific bands, i liked specific movie soundtracks. Then as i got older I started focusing on the specific bands ON that soundtrack. Edit: its hilarious that you mentioned T2 later in the video because terminator and terminator 2 were 2 of the first soundtracks i really got into.
The first two Spider Man movies had amazing soundtracks and really boosted the featured artists. Even Nickelback broke through the chronic hatred with their song for Spider Man's soundtrack.
The Judgment Night OST is, for me, the peak of this, and I was very happy to see your mentioning it! Someone else mentioned The Crow, which is another iconic OST from the 90s, which I think you could've mentioned, but I am happy you did mention Judgment Night. As for your analysis of the phenomenon, I think you are spot on. Thanks!
The Little Nicky Soundtrack will always be my favorite. That really paved the way for alot of the music I like today. Favorite soundtracks are: Little Nicky Soundtrack, Spawn Soundtrack, American pie 2, Bride of Chucky, Freddy Vs Jason, Dumb and dumber, Queen of the Damned, Grind, and Dracula 2000.

The Crow, Spawn, and Lost Highway had amazing soundtracks that ended up becoming the soundtrack to my teen years.
The Crow had The Cure Burn and STP Big Empty. Great movie.
The Crow was HUGE for me, movie AND soundtrack.
The Crow mothafucka! And I don’t care what anyone says Crow city of Angels is da shit
Also Mortal kombat and Freddy vs Jason. The movie suck, but it had a killer soundtrack.

I'm surprised he didn't mention The Queen of the Damned soundtrack, which was a masterpiece of Nu Metal artists and sold very well.
Yes!! Love korn in this!!
The soundtrack was better than the movie.
Yeah, it was my introduction to the genre. It was the first soundtrack I thought about, when I saw the title.
All the horror movies at that time had rock and metal soundtracks
Even Anne Rice fans that hate that movie LOVE that soundtrack.
Romeo + Juliet was an iconic if not quintessential soundtrack of the 90s
THANK YOU. Came here to say. 😂
And Jawbreaker!
Yeah that's a good one..

Movies aren't making enough money I guess.
That's not a new thing. It's a very old and ongoing thing for a movie to have its own music and there are plenty of memorable and timeless soundtracks in that vein.
Pop punk in raunchy comedy movies was peak movie soundtrack. Those were the days

Yes. I was ready to say the same thing. It really introduced me to Joy Division and The Cure. I need to give credit for that.
Yes! The Crow is one of the best soundtracks and the sequel as well and The Queen of the Damned for the 2000's
Early 2000’s teen movie soundtracks are another reason why I’m stuck in the past 😅
simple plan and scooby doo were a brilliant combo
True
@@sullivans2004i saw Simple Plan a few weeks ago and when they played the Scooby Doo song everyone went nuts xD it was so good lol
Same
I was the kid in the two thousands stuck in the 60s 70s and 90s.
It was an incredibly successful soundtrack and a thousand years is one of the most used songs here on UA-cam fir romantic films montages.
I loved the 1st twilight soundtrack I still listen sometimes 😂
This is the first one thst came to my mind! They are all good but the first one is extra special
Not a twilight fan, but those albums had some songs I like, like Decode and I Caught Myself from Paramore or Ours from The Bravery.
Moloko. Damn…it really was a great soundtrack
I'm surprised that he didn't mention that almost ALL the 90s superhero movies had solid, memorable soundtracks.
Also, not my thing AT ALL, but Yeat doing the Minions song was a massive moment for terminally online gen z kids.
I agree, both great OSTs. I own both. And post Malone 's sunflower comes from the spiderverse OST
Into the spider verse has a trash ST
Nothing will ever top a pop punk filled soundtrack for raunchy 2000’s rom-coms… TAKE ME BACK PLEASE
Can u please list those movies?could use some reference here :D

One film with a classic soundtrack you missed out was ‘Office Space’ I would say that’s an example of a film with a soundtrack that made a genre go mainstream in cinema, in that case gangsta rap
Judgement Night, the Crow, Dracula 2000, and the Friday soundtrack were among my all time favorites, and often eclipsed the movie itself. They really don't make em like that anymore.
Honorable mention to the soundtrack of Last Action Hero.
Those 2 AIC tracks are amazing!
This one was sooooo good! The AIC songs are classics.
Solid.
Queen of the damned... Such an amazing soundtrack. The movie and music melted together making it an experience.
I lived by the soundtrack along with the soundtrack from The Crow
@@CherryBlossom28479 Yup, both the QOTD soundtrack and TC soundtrack are a amazing! Classics to this day ❤
311 - Outside was the main reason I hunted down the National Lampoon’s Senior Trip soundtrack.
I have a lot of soundtracks in my cd collection.
The Crow soundtrack
Spawn
The Saint
Judgement Night
Grease. Etc
I definitely miss having a good soundtrack to listen to.. now you’ll get one or two singles but it’s rare you get a full classic like you did in the past
Both Crow soundtracks are sorely missing from this video
@@banwavy Definitely both a top collection of music and artist on both soundtracks.
And let's not forget The Matrix soundtrack!
The Saint!!!
The first album I ever bought with my own money was the back to the future soundtrack. I still have the cassette
I thought City of Angels was boring.
Iris was also on the Goo Goo Dolls multiplatinum album Dizzy Up the Girl, so some people didn't even realize it was on that soundtrack.
@@robmitchell3039 Iris is frequently mistaken to be Dizzy Up The Girl's lead single nowadays.
Judgement Night by Biohazard and Onyx is one of the most aggressive songs out there, but it’s amazing
Judgement Night might be the best example of a movie that’s plot could not happen if cell phones existed.
Ray had a cell phone. Remember in the RV, he called 911 and then lied and said he had no service… which eventually was the case
I love me some Hanz Zimmer. No mention of the crow or Strangland soundtrack 😔
That’s how I would discover new music back in the mid to late 90s.
although it was a pretty mid movie, the soundtrack for Dracula 2000 was fire
Strangland as well
Great video, as always, but I think you should have mentioned "Trainspotting" too.
Pump up the Volume is an underrated gem, and the soundtrack is genius.
Pump Up the Volume was a big one for me, as well.
Bad Boys OST?... It helps 90''s R&B and rap/hiphop reach mainstream exposure worldwide
So many soundtrack classics to me, Breakin', Phantom of Paradise, La Bamba, Singles, Spiderman. 8 Mile. I don't know if 300 Rise of Empire had a soundtrack, but Black Sabath War Pigs at the end credits was epic.
I think a great example of a movie that's memorable for its soundtrack as well as on its own merit is Airheads
5:24 accidental reference to "Breakfast at Tiffany's"
"Chloe Dancer and Crown of Thorns" from the Singles is for real one of the best grunge songs of all time. If you havent heard it , its a must

Hell yeah. Golgotha Tenement Blues is sick song
The score by graham revelle is great too
Some fantastic soundtrack albums that i listened to a lot in my youth:
Batman Forever
The Crow
The Matrix
The last two are especially strong
And let's not forget Tarantino's soundtracks up until Kill Bill!
Oh man, you are absolutely correct about discovering music through soundtracks. The Matrix soundtrack is one of my favorite
Goo Goo Dolls Iris/ City of Angels was huge.
Never ever forget all the great Enio Morricone Western movies soundtracks 💖
Anyway, Great analysis (Hope I sell that right, english not being my main language)
Great work, always a pleasure to listen to your stuff.
I still listen to The Crow Soundtrack.
Judgment Night is a criminally underrated movie. Beginning song in the movie is awesome.
The American DBZ soundtracks by Bruce Faulconer went this hard!
Best sountrack fom the 90s? The Crow....seriously...NIN cover of a Joy Division song, STP, the Cure, and more...

Honorable mention: Twin Peaks season 3 OST that hit me just as hard as first 2 seasons soundtrack

Soundtracks, they were an integral part of my CD collection. Reality Bites was a bop 🎶❤️
Hero was when they were riding high right after Silver Side Up came out and years before social media turned hating them into a meme
@@LordSluggo they were already pretty hated where I'm from.
These were the ABSOLUTE glory for Spider-Man! Not even the Spider-Verse soundtracks come close and for a reason: having Anuel AA in it!
Thanks!
Queen of the Damned was the one film where the soundtrack was superior to the actual film.
I wanna say this is facts but the vampires were so attractive idk 😩
The Little Nicky Soundtrack will always be my favorite. That really paved the way for alot of the music I like today.
Favorite soundtracks are:
Little Nicky Soundtrack, Spawn Soundtrack, American pie 2, Bride of Chucky, Freddy Vs Jason, Dumb and dumber, Queen of the Damned, Grind, and Dracula 2000.
