Eighties but you're fighting for the Falklands at Goose Green
Вставка
- Опубліковано 4 тра 2022
- The Battle of Goose Green was an engagement between British and Argentine forces on 28 and 29 May 1982, during the Falklands War. Located on East Falkland's central isthmus, the settlement of Goose Green was the site of an airfield. Argentine forces were in a well-defended position, within striking distance of San Carlos Water, where the British task force had made its amphibious landing. After the attack began in the early hours of 28 May 1982, the 2 Para advance was stalled by fixed trenches with interlocking fields of fire. The commander was killed during a solo charge on an enemy machine-gun post. The victory at Goose Green accomplished the political purpose of sustaining public support in Britain by a badly needed victory and the success marked a turning point in the campaign. From this point onwards, the British forces were to retain the initiative in all successive battles.

It is the 40th anniversary of the Falklands war, so this was timed perfectly
Or he released on the anniversary on purpose
As someone who has spent a few years in the Falklands and been to Goose Green, it isn't as dramatic as you think. I've seen the aftermath though, all other the islands there is the scars of war, landmines all other the beaches, heck go to any moor or hilltop and you'll 9/10 find spent shells and ammo boxes. A couple of years ago I met a priest that was in the fighting back when he was a marine. He told me about how when he was coming out the field hospital at Ajax Bay on the 27th during the attack and felt some force pushing him out of the way and into the dirt, where moments later one of the dud bombs landed where he was stood before hand. He said it is one of the things that made him really believe. Now I've been to Ajax Bay, likely walked out of the door he walked out of and right passed where he was laying, I've also walked the path leading away from the bay and fell through some sheet metal on the ground leading to a small shelter/bunker. So If you see some rusty sheet metal with a person sized hole in it near the path on the hill going down to the hospital then please look inside and tell me what is really down there cus as a kid I shit myself and screamed and my dad came and pulled me out so I had no clue and I've always wanted to know.

"The Harrier has allowed the UK basically to be where it couldn’t be. The Falklands is a classic example. I mean, without the Harrier, we could not have defended the Falklands. We couldn’t have got anybody, any aircraft down there. But the ability to put a reasonably competent combat aircraft onto a deck and get it down there and then fight was just the difference between success and failure."

As an Argentinian, the war was unnecesary,we could resolved this in a diplomatic manner, its a shame that innocent men died for the sake of dictactors trying to mantain their regime.
Not only that, the war ruined any chances of Argentina ever getting the islands diplomatically because the invasion and the way the islanders were treated during the occupation changed the kelpers opinion of Argentina from fairly positive to completely against having any discussion on the sovregnity of their islands.
And the land mines the argentines covered the islands with blowing up a civilian every couple years for decades afterwards has kept the story of what happened fresh in their memory.
