Hey, this is the first video that explains this issue properly. I have an XR it fell into the pool then I dried it and after a while it worked perfectly the cameras had water droplets for a few weeks then they went away then it got wet again but not a lot then it stopped working. At that time my back camera wasn’t working. I got it fixed and everything works except my Face ID , says true depth issue. The sensors still work etc. the guy who fixed it says since it got wet I can never have both my front facing camera and Face ID work at the same time ever again. Is he right ? What should I do ? Should I just leave my phone as it is ?

It's friggin' sick with their crazy security tying the fingerprint ID and face ID sensors to the main board... like hackers will crawl into your phone and tap the data lines right?! Nobody will! dumb ass Apple, just makes repairs impossible!!

@@BillAnt Hello. If you replace the screen it does not stop working. As he said in the video the face ID is synced to mobo + ear speaker. IF you have all of those 3 items it will work (with those 3 items I mean 3 of unique ones, because one touch ID/Front camera only goes with one motherboard and ONE ear speaker. As for the apple goes they don't do this, because of security, they do it because they want people like us away from repairing their devices. Steve Jobs said that he doesn't want people inside his devices and that's what they are doing. It is REALLY hard to get such programming box that could help you with this.
@We Love Tech Stuff < Thanks, I wasn't sure about those three items are also tied to the mainboard. Great, so god forbid you nick the ribbon of one of those items, you're screwed. I wonder if even one of them are non-functional, would the phone still function less of course that particular item, or all three have to be fully functioning?
@@BillAnt As long as it has the connection to the circuit that has the ID patched on it and the cable is not torn it will work, yes. For example your ear speaker stops working, your Face ID should in most cases still work, but as you can see in the video. If you want to replace the ear speaker and want to keep Face ID functional you have to solder off the actual ID recognition circuit. Hope this helps.
@We Love Tech Stuff < Thanks, I just haven't worked on any "X" series yet, but plenty of 7 and 8's. Alright, crossing my fingers.. he-he. Samsungs all the way through the S9 series don't have this crazy ID tying to the main board... not sure about the S10's... we shall see, hope not.

Hey there, thanks for the helpful test! I am writing to ask you an opinion since I am facing a doubt. I have an iPhone Xs all working (also Face ID) except for the front camera that gives black screen. The device components have never been replaced, tested face ID sensors (IR, dot projector, proximity) all works fine except for the front camera sensor. Now, I understand that if I change the whole module I will loose face ID and in my opinion it's not worth.
However, if I buy a camera module and I transplant all sensors except the front camera this should get face ID and camera both working right?
Since the metal assembly is hard to dismantle, how did you put it back in?

The face ID sensor is closely combined on the front-facing camera module. We don't suggest you dismiss the camera module because it will damage the face ID sensor and the flex easily. You can replace the whole camera module and transparent the face ID data with the programmer tool from your original face ID model and that will work.

It might be the light sensor. You may see which sensor has dirt when you tear down your iPhone.

First of all, you have to make sure nothing cover on true depth camera. Also, you can check the face ID setting on your phone. Furthermore, add alternate appearance is necessary. Make sure nothing covered on your face. It can't be wet unless water damaged or used in wet. Hope these would be helpful to you.

The iPhone X back panel is a replaceable part. You don't have to worry about it. Just be careful while using the phone.

Try to reset everything on Settings and reboot your iPhone. If these are still not working, check the parts and the flex cables in the repair shop. Maybe the cables are disconnected.

The dot projector and infrared camera are tied to the unique logic board. We suggest you check the dot projector because this is the important hardware of the Face ID system.

Face ID only works with the front-facing camera. It doesn't affect the back rare camera.

It may be the systematic issue. Did you try the recovery mode or reset everything, and reboot the phone? If the problem still exists, you may assume the problems of the face id module. As the final suggestion, if the repair shop tells you the motherboard has problems, don't trust him.

The iPhone X Face ID system is complicated. You should go to the repair shop or Apple repair center to check if the front face-camera, the proximity sensor, the ambient light sensor all in the module are OK.

I just got my screen for IPhone 11 replaced because I fell and the screen broke through my screen protector, everything works perfectly, but the Face ID either takes a while to recognize my face or doesn’t recognize my face, when resetting Face ID and trying to add my face again at time it keeps saying move up, lower, closer, can’t be seen, things like that at times, what should I do? Or is this normal? Because beforehand it would recognize me real quick even in the dark but now it doesn’t really recognize me in the dark. I’ve never gotten a screen replaced so this is my first time so I’m not sure what’s happening.

Sorry - I think this question has been answered in some form or other but I'm not technical enough to tell. My iPhone X has "detected" a problem with the truedepth camera and disabled facial recognition. At the same time, my front facing camera is no longer working (stays black) and my rear camera takes a little longer to boot up. I'm a couple of weeks out of warranty (fucking great!!!). So if I replaced the whole front facing camera unit with speaker assembly, would that allow me to get facial recognition working again? There's nothing else broken that needs fixing - the screen and everything is still in mint condition.
Replace the speaker assembly, the Face ID will not work. You can try to only replace the front-facing camera.

Did you go to the repair center to check the front-facing camera? Maybe something is wrong on the camera.

You should check the front camera firstly. If the front camera is ok, then consider the problem the face ID module. Try to reset your face ID if the problem can't be fixed. Go back to the repair shop for further repair solution.
After screen replacement with original front sensor cable I get error " Move iPhone a little lower ". Cables are in good condition and caution was used to replace the parts. What one could it possibly be?
Just reset your Face ID if so, or backup your important data and reset everything, then restart the phone. Hope this would help.

Replace a new flex cable, find a repair shop that will be micro-welded, and install the sensing components on the original cable to the new cable. But this will also cost you much money.

Not only the ambient light sensor but also the proximity sensor and the flood illuminator, because all these parts are tied in the unique logic board.

Make sure your front-facing camera is clean, and make yourself up. Try again.
Hello, I fixed an iPhone x that had the screen replaced before so I know for a fact that it wasn't me who broke it or anything because it was super easy to take off, but now the face Id doesn't say it's not working but when I try to configure it it just won't recognize the face, sometime it says to put the face higher or lower, but just that it won't let me configure it, any help?
It doesn't say it's not working, which means no problems with the face id sensor or the front camera. Maybe you should try to reset the face id in Settings and upgrade the iOS to the latest version.

You may also watch our video about why face id not working after display screen replacement. you should confirm it to the user and suggest he go to Apple authorized service center.

Ok. So just for clarification, if the front camera/sensor flex (along with earpiece speaker)...THE ENTIRE ASSEMBLY is transferred to the new display (as done with other iPhone model repairs), Face ID will function as normal, correct?

Did you crash and damage the camera? If so, we suggest you go to the repair shop to check the camera and the internal face id module. Maybe the flex cable is disconnected.

No, you can't. The infrared camera, flood illuminator and dot projector are parts of the face ID component. They are all encrypted and can not be changed.
ETrade Supply I understand. I have melted the front of the infrared camera and my camera with a heatgun. Face id is not showing error, but is not working also. Do you have any idea if this can be fixed ? Can I somehow replace just the tip (lens) of the infrared camera ?
@@ipodTouch4g07 Did you disconnect the battery flex cable beforehand? The static electricity from your hand might cause damage to the Face ID. Besides, you should check if there are damages on the flexes or no dust on the IR camera. Only replace the lens would not affect the face id.
@@etradesupply Yes I did disconect the battery. The flex cables are also ok. There is no error for faceID on the iphone, it just doesn't detect a face when scanning, because the tip of the ir camera is melted.
@@ipodTouch4g07 if the infrared camera is really broken, we suggest you replace it. Then you will need to put your iPhone to recovery mode and restart it. You will need to back up your data in iTunes before you do that and then reset all settings. Just Google it for details.

Every sensor whether it’s Face ID or Touch ID is linked to the phone through a serial number, something along those lines. If you swap out the sensor to a different phone that’s not it’s own it won’t work for security reasons.
Toxic Green Apple says security reasons, however, Samsung's fingerprint readers can easily be replaced

I done screen replacement recently and I cannot figure is damn thing out. The only part I replaced was the screen and all cameras and sensors are the originals. The camera was not disturbed and proximity sensor placed into the new phone. The lens are clean and all parts are sat fully home. I have resettle device and still face I'd is failing. I get a warning a out the true depth camera. Can anyone please advise as to what I can try next. No parts have been damaged I.e ribbon connectors etc
Try to force restart the device, press and release the volume up and down button quickly, then long press the side button until the Apple Logo appears on the screen.
I did everything as Cliff, I moved the sensors and the speaker correctly to another original screen, nothing else has been touched and nothing has been damaged I'm sure - but face id doesn't work. Restored the phone several times, disconnected and connected everything back - still no luck. Tried the force start but again - it doesn't work.
Hi Olena, check whether there is dirty in the sensor hole on the screen. Clean it to try again. (Make sure the sensor is in the correct position)
Thank you for your comment. I've read all the comments I could find on the internet, so the last thing that I did I cleaned everything I could with isopropanol carefully. The sensor is in the correct position, the brackets hold it in place. I've faced a few comments where people say that after a new software update phones can recognize if the screen has been replaced. I have no idea why I've been so unlucky so far.
Yes, the system can recognize the screen has been replaced, but we haven't found this can influence the Face ID. Replace the screen only influence the auto-brightness issue(this will fix in the iOS 12).
Hi. I replaced my iPhone X which had damaged front and back glass. I swapped the board over into the donor iCloud locked iPhone X and swapped over the camera and speaker flex and Face ID is still not present. Is the LCD now paired with the logic board too?!

Hi martintij, only replace the LCD screen the Face ID will still work. First, check the sensor flex cable make sure it is in good condition. Second, make sure the sensor flex cable is in the right position.
I made it work again by swapping the ear speaker flex too. Now face id is working

ETrade Supply no ideas why you calling it a LCD when it is a Oled display unless some manger to make third party screen for the iPhone X that is lcd
We usually call the phone screen LCD, which is a common name. Although the iPhone X screen is an OLED screen. Just like we call the Samsung S and Note series screen replacement as "LCD" too.

1. Go to Settings > Face ID & Passcode and tap Reset Face ID to reset your Face ID.
2. Go to Settings > General > Reset to reset all settings.
3. Hard reset your iPhone X, quick press and release the Volume up and Volume down keys, then press and hold the side button(power button) until you see the Apple logos.
4. If these ways still not work for you, please go to the Apple Store for help.
(The Face ID is tied to the motherboard, Face ID will not work if you replaced the truedepth parts )

Did you reset your Face ID on Settings? If the original components are ok, you should try to reset the Face ID. If all these done and Face ID not working, go to the repair shop to check the internal parts, maybe the flex cable is disconnected.
ETrade Supply the Face ID has never been used,and this is the first time...took it to a repair shop and everything seems okay
