Sir, I was so VEXED!!! I changed my driver side door power switch on my 97 Sport, (original owner 163k miles), worked fine. But, inexplicably, for some reason, COULD NOT get my driver side door to lock either electronically or with the key. It was just stuck. I was born with ten thumbs and if my toes were fingers, I would be born with twenty thumbs! I could tell something was stuck with the lock but could not, after hours of study and tinkering, get the damn lock to unjam. My wife found your video, I watched it, went back to study the problem again and made two subtle changes. I gave myself about an eight of on inch less bend, (rod must have bent during the switch installation) and found you can replace the door card about an eighth of an inch off and still install it. Made both corrections and BAM, the lock worked!!! Thank you for this video!!!! This is a very subtle problem. I am giving my wife all the credit for this repair as she was the one who found the video!
This video was very helpful in helping me identifying the issue. However try as I might I can’t get them bent back into the right position. Did you ever find any good reference photos of how they should look? Or is there somewhere I can just purchase them?
I am thinking that the rods get bent by someone trying to use a slim jim to get into a locked jeep. I had same problem, driver side. Motors still just whine instead of locking and unlocking but at least the rocker locker works now. Many thanks.
Thanks for this video! I just got a 2000 XJ and the passenger door will not lock.. even manually using the key. I'm guessing that this is going to be exactly what the issue is.
Put masking tape on door where the door Handel fits then put the lock in the lock position then took measurement on the door panel and door and bent the rod to fit the marks on the tape worked the first try
I’m having the same issue on my driver door lol I took the panel partially off to fix door speaker. Now lock arm is jamming. I think I bent it by not fully removing the panel and just moving it to the side.
Before you go bending rods; if you have a 97-01 xj and you're experiencing power door lock issues disconnect your keyless entry module this may solve this type of issue. Best part is this fix is free
@@Ozarkwild thanks! I just put my interior back together and my door lock which previously worked suddenly stopped working with exact issue yours had. And I've been puzzled as to why. Hopefully this fixes it!

Yeah, you prob bent the rods a bit when you did that. They are finicky. You may have to remove the panel and adjust (bend) the arms to fix the issue

I have a 2000 cherokee sport but I can't seem to find any info on this one everybody just talks about the xj is all the info the same??
The rods will be the same on your 2000

what did you use to bend the rods?
I used two sets of pliers, they will bend pretty easy
