“If you got an xj you know the doors can be finnicky” i didnt know til bout 20 minutes ago but now i did looking forward to doing this thanks in advance
You’re the real deal, man! I bought the new one on Amazon for 18 bucks and installed it in my dress pants. I’m back to driving a 1990’s luxury vehicle! For giggles, I took apart the old one and one of the contacts was green. Go figure. Thanks for your post!
Thank you for posting and your presentation with links. I just picked up a 2000 XJ today and it does have this issue. You helped me with not spending many hours researching the issue.👍
My door locks are hit and miss. I heard the clicks from the passenger door and found out about the switch module a few years ago then got too lazy to look up the parts. Thanks for the links and the quick video guide. It will make it a lot easier to get mine working again.
Excellent presentation of the problem and the solution. Very helpful to provide links to the products you used. I just ordered them online. Will be doing this fix for my 2000 Jeep XJ Sport. Thanks so much!
Great video, I have 2 Jeep Cherokee Sports and will have to replace my switches soon. My door locks on both Jeeps click instead of locking. Thanks for posting. 👍
Well it worked for me, Nice. 1999 Tan Jeep Cherokee 2x4 Sport 4.0. IT also fixed the window, well kind of for the right front. It will go up and down from the master switch, but not up or down form the local switch. My guess is a loose or broken wire in that module cluster. Will look at that window some time later, but for now the locks work and the windows all work from the master control module. Next thing to trace down is the dash lights get out aka fuse #6 5amp. blows. Rumer has it that it is something to do with the rear wiper switch...Strange things could happen Heck I got married to a girl that came pre equipped with her new 1999 Tan Jeep Cherokee 2x4 Sport 4.0. Yes she has had her car/Jeep now for over 20 years.
I recently had my controller go out. Thought it was the driver door control. It's probably the passenger door master control. Wish me luck with my shop.
Would the passenger switch still unlock the rest of the doors? I ask cause mine does. Also the interior light on the door flashes while the ignition is on.
My power door locks work on all except for the drivers side rear door, would I just need to replace the switch on that door? Or could it be something else
The door locks in the XJ are weird. They have that electric switch to lock the door but also that other lock above the handle. I was having trouble getting mine to work when I finally realised the rods leading to that switch were jamming up. Once I disconnected it, the door locked properly!
My driver side door lock works off and on, if it doesn’t, I can reach across and flip the passenger switch, then the driver side will work again? Think this will fix it?
Since this video, I suggest purchasing both the drivers side and passenger side switches from "the switch doctor " they work together and will probably fix your issue., you can get the set for around 40.00
Gotta love the XJ’s or any jeep for that matter. I have a 97/23 that I’ve enjoyed for 11 years. Rebuilt motor, transmission and almost every part has been replaced. They are finicky like a woman sometimes, maybe that’s why we love’em
Thanks for the video. I have a 2000 XJ and the locks have gone crazy.....they switch on and off nonstop. I pulled the fuse as a temporary "fix" and picked up a new master switch for the passenger side. Question.....does the key fob automatically work with the new switch, or does it need to be reset?
The key fob is not tied to the switches so it should still work. Just for your info the key fob is tied synced with a small PC board housed in the dome light fixture
@@MajorWeakness in the dome fixture??? Seems about right for XJ electronics lol. Half the time my wiper fluid light comes on I'm expecting there's a short for the power windows lol. Thanks again for taking the time to make, upload and answer out questions bud. Liked and subscribed. Cheers from Canada
Thanks for the video! I think I may have created this issue taking the panel on and off without the negative terminal disconnected.. I hear the click you are talking about. Would your rear windows work prior to replacing the switch? Also will the windows would the windows work? Thanks again!
The rear windows or any windows are separate circuit so they might work or might not. The drivers side controller child lock button sometimes is an issue, for 40.00 you can buy both and eliminate these. Another issue with XJs are the door wiring between door jam and cab. I think I've got another video on that. Hope this helps.
@@MajorWeakness it's a 99. I think the reason it wouldn't lock was because the key was in the ignition. It's works fine when driving. Kinda makes sense.

Dude, just picked up a 2000 Xj and discovered I have this issue, going to order this and see it it fixes the issue! Thanks!
Glad the video helped...hopefully
@@MajorWeakness Ill report back when I give it a shot. Probably at some point next week. Thanks again!
Nice bonus footage, I noticed the same thing in my 99 I just bought.
They still work great
Happy Easter. Always something to do on an XJ but we do enjoy them. :)

Thanks again! Swapped it out and now works.
Glad it helped! I've got another XJ with the same problem, about to swap another!
I like the new radio!
Nicely done Major.Happy Easter my friend....
Thank you! HAPPY EASTER!
Oh yeah! Great video!!
I still get the clicking after replacing passenger side switch? Do you think If I switch out the drivers side it would fix the problem?
Yes it is possible that will solve. Very common to have broken wires in door jam inside rubber tube
@@MajorWeakness thank you 🙏
Is that the module that receives the remote signal?
No, the remote receiver module is actually inside the dome light fixture, see my video on this subject

Would the passenger switch still unlock the rest of the doors? I ask cause mine does. Also the interior light on the door flashes while the ignition is on.
Yes the passenger switch can still unlock the rest of doors, not sure about the door lights as my 2000 model does not have lights on the door
The cc-150 does that same thing sometimes!

@@MajorWeakness thanks, I already replaced the driver side, think it must be the other that’s causing it, hopefully no broken wires and all that crap
My 2000 is doing exactly the same!
Nothing gets locked, so for my understanding the problem is that unit on the right front door???
Yes the passenger door lock controllers everything, it's the opposite if what most think

I installed this part and for some reason it will unlock but not lock. Any ideas?
Might be your actuator
how many clips come in a bag?
I believe 10
@@MajorWeakness okay. thank you
What if the passenger side does not click
You might need a passenger side lock actuator and switch
What if only my rear passenger lock has issues?
Might be just the actuator motor in that door
I replaced the driver and the passenger switches and now the doors won't lock when the jeep is on. But works fine when the ket is off. Very odd.
What year is the Jeep?

@@VenomTT yes makes sense
Unfortunately this did not fix my locks :(
Must be wiring or actuator issues
