So, after Svetlana's passing, I wasn't planning on recording anything for a little while but then this happened last night. When it rains it pours... If you are here sometime in the future because your cat is having a seizure, please read the description of the video as well as this comment. Charlie is doing fine now. He had another seizure not too long ago, so we increased his medication dose. Apparently, that didn't work :(. He's currently on Keppra (levetiracetam) and Phenobarbital so we will have to try to either increase dosage or try something else.
I will update this pinned comment to answer any common questions or concerns.
#1: To pre-empt one question, I know will be asked a dozen times. No, he hasn't been on CBD oil in recent times. He has been in the past and it was ineffective. He is on it currently but it's more just a hope that it could be helping. We have never seen results from CBD. In any animal for any condition honestly. I'm not saying CBD oil is ineffective, but I am saying the marketing hype behind CBD oil is quite powerful. So, I think people should manage their expectations when it comes to CBD oil.
#2: "You shouldn't put your hand near his mouth". I actually hate that this advice is given out by some vets because it tells the human that they aren't responsible if their cat harms itself. The reality is unless you KNOW your cat will bite, you should at least try to do what you can to prevent them from harming themselves. In my case I surround him with my legs as a barrier in case he starts moving away and I lay my hand under his head to prevent him from hitting his head on the ground. ALSO note my hand technique. I'm not lifting his head off the ground. I'm following his head with my hand. This allows me to make sure he doesn't hit his head and it puts my hand in a good position in the event that Charlie starts to turn and I'm in danger of a bite.
#3: At the end of the seizure, you can hear me getting upset, I was concerned for a moment that he was having trouble breathing. I turned his head a little bit to make sure he wasn't pressing his nose against the ground and impeding his breathing.
#4: When I talk to Charlie, I'm not doing it with any expectation that it will help. I'm mostly just upset. People have said talking could excite them further, However I've never seen any evidence that shows how speaking could make it worse. Having said that I think it's best to err on the side of caution and if you speak, do so calmy.
#5: There have been a lot of calls to euthanize Charlie, I mute those people anytime I see them. To those people, would you tell a human they shouldn't live because they have seizures? If he was having them constantly every day we would. But right now, he tends to go months without them then he has a big flare up of 2-4 in a short period. I would never euthanize a cat in that circumstance.
#6: I apologize to everyone who is being respectful in the comments. I won't be replying much beyond what I've currently done. I didn't realize this video would go so viral and get flooded with people being a disappointment to the human race. I'd rather sift through all of that. I will however continue to update this post. Thank you to moderators who have been helping

Ive seen two people have seizures in my life. One time i was working in a kitchen and our dishwasher was massively addicted to xanax and had ran out and didnt tell anyone, apparently that makes you have seizures. He fell backwards and somehow didnt hit his head. He ended up being fine but getting taken out by ambulance. The second time I was paying for my stuff at Walgreens and the sliding doors opened up and i heard the loudest smack and crack sound ive ever heard in my life, I look over and the guy was walking in and fell face first onto the concrete and broke his nose and busted a bunch of his teeth out. I rushed over and asked the person with him what we are supposed to do. He had rolled over onto his back, me and that guy rolled him over onto his stomach so the blood could run out of his mouth. His muscles were legit hard as rocks, Ive never felt anything like it. When we rolled him over he stayed completely stiff, like a board. Ill never forget that. It was Christmas eve like 6-8 years ago.

My brother has a really bad siezure disorder that's made him unconscious in the past. I recall him getting carried off in ambulance a number of times because he wouldn't wake up, no matter what my mother did. I remember her sobbing over his seemingly lifeless body as she tried to tickle his feet to get him to wake up. This was back in the 80s and 90s. He has to take 5 medications daily to stay alive. He's also severely mentally handicapped. I don't recall ever seeing him actively have a seizure. Just the aftermath.
Watching Charlie have such a severe seizure made me tear up. The poor cat was probably terrified. I'm glad you're such a great cat dad. You remained calm and comforted him till it was over. This is an excellent video for cat owners and vets. It offers a bird's eye view of what a cat seizure looks like and the best way to approach the situation.

@@rixyz7013 everyone has different experiences with their seizures. There's some commonalities, but like a twisted snowflake from hell, they're all special and different.
My cousin and I, for example. He gets full blown seizures. He blacks out, shakes severely, often times he vomits, and he can't remember stuff afterwards. Sometimes he forgets parts of his past and things he's learned, so he and his mom keep journals so he can help remember things afterwards.
My seizures are petitmal. I don't shake, I basically just stare off and get lost. It's not unlike when you get lost in thought, except you can usually pull yourself out, I can't, and you don't usually fall down and drool on yourself, I do. I start off looking like I'm staring at something and then it happens. It's usual when I'm deep in thought, reading, or I'm really stressed. I get full blown nightmares, after a period of darkness, right when I'm about to come out of it. When I wake up I don't know where I am and I'm usually frightened, cold, and rather hungry. Sometimes I throw up, but not always. It feels like when you ride a Rollercoaster and it's reached the peak and just started plummeting, that's what it feels like for me, except there's no bottom in sight and I just keep plummeting. Usually something "catches" me and pulls me to a stop before I come out of it, but sometimes I get ripped out and it's like hitting a body of water from too high a height. That's when I throw up. My body usual hurts really bad, too, because I go rigid and all my muscles get really tight for the entirety. My cousin aches for a similar yet opposite reason. His muscles are spasming, like a leg cramp, so it hurts like hell.
I hope that helps you see a little more into what it's like to have a seizure. Like I said, we all feel different, but similar things so it's hard to say "this is what is like", but you can get an idea. ✌️😺🖖

Epileptic seizures are like having a brain with faulty wiring that can at random or by certain triggers cross each other and literally overload the brain. Had a classmate back in high school who had a severe case of it, and his attacks were primarily triggered by excitement. My first time seeing his seizure was a terrifying experience. Scared the fuck out of me, we called away a medical emergency and had our med team come in and do a diagnosis while he was convulsing on the floor and my friend kept him on his side. It was a sobering moment, to know that he had no prior history of seizures and still had one anyways.

For my (thankfully few and far between) grand mal seizures, sometimes i feel static in all my limbs, but thankfully in most cases im unconscious. the issue is injury during the seizure, so I have to be careful about being alone. This video was recommended to me about 5 months ago when my then 15-year-old cat was perfectly happy and healthy.
I remember feeling so sorry for the cat in the video and praying that I would never be in the unfortunate position of having to watch my cat have a terrible seizure.
Little did I know that things were about to take a turn for the worse.
Just 2 weeks after watching the video, I woke up to my cat having a seizure right next to me and ramming his thick claws into my cheek. There was blood everywhere, but I didn't care, I just tried to comfort my cat, just like in the video, and my cat seemed to get better over the next few weeks. No seizures or anything, even my vet was puzzled.
But 3 months ago my cat had seizures again, 4 times in just one day. I rushed to the emergency vet, had to pay a fortune because it was late at night. My vet and I decided it would be best to keep him in the hospital for 2 days for a full check-up.
He came back after those long two days but it was clear that he had an inoperable tumour in his brain and he was living on borrowed time for longer than we all expected.
I still had hope that we would have at least a little while longer together as he now had medication for his seizures, but sadly he passed away just a few hours after I took him home.
He meowed softly as if to call out to me and when I was right next to him and started to pet him, he just stretched out three times and died in my arms.
He was the best friend and the only pet I'll ever have.
If anyone is reading this, please cherish the time you have with your pets and loved ones, you never know if it's the last time you'll see them.

It is really helpful for us that during these episodes any kind of episode you film them so that we can get a better understanding of the situation. Sometimes small details that seem unimportant to owners make the difference! Or the fact that it js a shock for the owner to see his companion in such a state that the details of the incident seem blurry! Thankfully we all have a camera in our pocket nowadays!

We’re on year 10 with my Chi pup and her seizures, and is heartbreaking and gut wrenching to this day. She trembles (and sometimes you can barely feel her tremble), and that’s her coming out of a seizure. When she seizes, she’s completely stiff, and it appears that she loses her sight during the real bad ones. Once she’s done, she’s back to her hellion ways, thankfully! 🐾🙏🏻💜

I have no idea if the poor dear is aware and present during their episodes (I maintain full consciousness in my seizures and have to passively ride them out when they hit certain sides of my body), but conscious or not, they must feel pretty worn out after the experience. It's good that you were there to watch over them and that there's also another friendly fuzz that cares! Wishing you and your cats good health and a happy new year for 2023! ✌🏾

@BlindCatSvetlana honestly videos like this that show how to properly handle a seizure for a cat is very valuable. I have been fortunate to not have had this particular issue with any of my pets but I have friends that do. One of my friends had a kitten that suddenly started having seizures and panicked and didn't know what to do. She knew she should take her cat to a vet, but she was terrified that if she did they would tell her to put her kitten down. I ended up convincing her to take him anyway because if they were being caused by something more severe but treatable the longer she waited the worse it would be. In the end he was put on medication that he responded well to and only has bouts of seizures a few times a year rather than several times a week. She did end up making a cat room for him when she wasn't at home though because he broke his leg falling off the indoor second floor balcony once while she was work. She and her vet concluded that he accidentally fell off of it either during or right after a seizure so she made the room for him while she wasn't in the house.

My husband and I had a 22 y/o, female, mini-Maine Coon cat. She was a failure to thrive cat. Extremely small but built like a Maine Coon with all the tufts and beautiful hair. I bathed her from day one and took over all her grooming needs. At age 19 she went deaf and started having seizures. I did the same thing you did, made sure she was safe, held her and reassured her with soft speech. At 22 she started seizing every day. She was truly suffering. We made the decision to put her to sleep. I still feel like I could have done more. I miss her every second of every day. RIP Sweet Girl.

Thanks. There are a lot of cynical types who think it's all for money or "the views". As far as money is concerned this channel makes very little due to the young age of the audience. As opposed to my chihuahua channel that makes like 10x the revenue for the same number of views. In fact, I turned monetization of this video down to the bare minimum that's possible. I'm also not at all a view chaser. I never chase trends and I get very little satisfaction out of view counts (notice I don't have a tiktok account?). I've been adopting/fostering special needs animals since I was a teen, and this really is just a glimpse of the day-to-day reality of living with animals with special needs. My wife and I originally met when I met her extremely disabled cat with twisted limbs, who was unable to walk. I knew she was a true lover of animals, and I was hooked.
I'd understand those people's criticisms if all I posted was videos like this. But this channel has existed for a year and a half, and this is the only time I've ever shown a video of a seizure. Between my 3 partnered channels and 600~ videos I've only shown two "upsetting" videos like this ever. This one and my chihuahua's PTSD episode.
