It will take some learning but it is lighter than many Paradox games. With some updates and eventually new factions this game could be downright great for Trek fans. I love all the tie ins from the show. It feels like TNG.
I just bought it because I like Star Trek. It's a lot to figure out at the beginning, I have never played another game like it. It's a nice slow fun one so far.
I have purchased every DLC for Stellaris at this time. They really know how to screw you with DLC's. The Star Trek mod for stellaris is way better from what I see and don't plan on giving Paradox anymore of my hard-earned money, but maybe if they fix bugs and add some more to this without making me buy another damned DLC, I may end up purchasing it.
I just have to warn you Heir that the Romulans are bugged at the moment. Their ship reactors don’t provide enough power, so their ships are really weak at the moment. I would put off playing the Romulans until after a patch or two. Otherwise, great video and I’m glad you’re enjoying the game!
The reactor works correct, when u reach tier 3 reactors, then the fun begins. Its a bit boring to get there, cause of the randomized tech tree, but its possible.
This does look very much like Stellaris. I dunno, I guess the barrier for entry for Stellaris is getting very paradoxy with all the DLC, but a lot of that DLC is also very good. But I guess if you enjoy this game, I'd definitely suggest trying Stellaris sometime since it seems like its just a bigger, more open-ended version of this. Like you can't play as the federation, but you can play as xenophilic federation-minded humans that call themselves the federation. Can't play as the Ferengi, but you can play as a profit driven society run by a megacorporation focused on founding and controlling the galactic stock market. Can't play as The Borg, but you can play as a hivemind of driven assimilators. Etc, etc, etc. Can get weirder and play as a sentient hive mind of service robots that became so advanced and effective that their creator race are now basically helpless pets that they pamper, but also they discover warp technology and their programming is such that their goal is to now conquer organic races to fulfill that programming and pamper them as bio-trophies. It's like being the borg except you're putting everybody in luxurious zoo-daycare facilities.
@@HeirofCarthage with all the DLC is a pretty steep learning curve, but both in race and culture building there is a ton of stuff you will like Heir, as well as lots of cool permanent bonuses from quest and random events you get done along a playthrough. Adds a lot of replayability and also give you a rewarding feeling like yes I have this bonus because I managed to do A or B. Space Patchy's Javelin empire CALLS YOU TO WAR!
the thing that I found slightly annoying is that I experienced the "end game" before I researched excelsior ships.. just had miranda and intrepids vs youknowwho... also the game didn't scale very well with my mid game expansion levels
The new Paradox games aren’t all that complex. The older games are where you needed to run a spread sheet. Now with tool tips and background calculations giving you a “+ or -“ on everything it’s fairly easy to comprehend. I’d say the last game that was truly complex from paradox would either be Victoria 2 or Crusader Kings 2. Basically if you can play a Civ game you can play new paradox titles.
Love to see the Dominion, Tholians, and Voth as playable factions. Add in Species 8472 as an endgame crisis. Iconians too if they want to take inspiration from Star Trek Online. If they haven't already, they could add in some Q event chains where you could get some interesting rewards or debuffs (depending on choices made).
The general opinion of the game from people who have played Stellaris is that it's a really lazy reskin with a lot of oversights. There are lots of things that made sense in Stellaris, but make no sense for Star Trek; e.g. the ship classes.
There's soooo many factions they could add .. the issue is the mod for stellaris has all these races alrdy with all just as good models 😅. Like yes it's not as story focused completing missions etc but .. still in 4-5 years if this game is still going and they will have more races to play as then it may actually be worth getting 😢.
Did you ever reach an end-game crisis? I'm a little beyond your current state, have won the game and am mostly just waiting around for the Borg to show up.
Only played one game so far, I was doing well until the Borg went full invasion mode on me. Apparently you've meant to complete specific missions before this event which I failed to do, or couldn't do for various reasons, otherwise it's game over, which is a shame. Seems like there's a clear path you have to follow to proceed which kind of sucks tbh, you should have freedom play as you choose and still have options to win regardless of how you choose to play. Having the Borg literally invade every system at the same time with multiple 24K fleets is lame. I probably won't play it again, I had no idea how complete some of these missions and it's to time consuming. I would try before you buy with this one, glad I didn't buy it.
the reviews of this game say it all. points to my man for trying it in its buggy state. great vid as always. i wont buy it with it running on the old engine.
When someone says im a fan of Star Trek i feel they should clarify if they like the new star Trek. STD and Picard etc. Im a huge fan of TNG, DS9 etc but the new series absolutely sucks.
it's only 30 bucks. so a reskin stellaris is great for that price. it is its own game with trees to guide your path. and you can play different paths how u want. but the tech trees are randomized. which is horrible. u won't get terraforming until 15 hours in sometimes. you may even research advanced terraforming before regular. which is pointless. your new ships are a crap shoot to come up in the tech tree also. they need to streamline this or make prerequisites come first. also many of the quests and trees are heavily bugged or not filled in. you will complete 3 or 4 missions in 30 seconds. needs several big patches.
The AI is really bad in this game. At Commodore difficulty I could beat the united federation in a war and take 2 planets from them when I had only 4 ships at the start of the war and had huge issues building more and their fleet was 10x bigger. Their ship designs are really dumb, phasers are useless, big ships are useless, AI forgets officers all the time etc.
"Shaka when the walls fell"
- Heir of Carthage (probably after integrating the Tamarians)
Temba. His arms open.
This really strikes me as Stellaris with a Star Trek narrative driven coat of paint. Which I’m a fan of, Star Trek is fantastic.
Well, because it is. They employed Stellaris modders.
This is the EXACT perspective I needed. A non paradox strategy gamer that likes Star Trek

Update - the patch that just released fixed the issue with the Romulan reactors. They are playable now.
@@NuclearDude101 sweet! Going to try them now
Don’t understand the tech tree seem to be researching same tech over and over
Any thoughts 💭
20 hours into it and picked the Romulans and its totally broken!
Why? Romulans are hard to start but then are easier I think.

It is because tech is random. They probably need to make random tech optional to help with narrative.
Is this a stellaris mod?
I found that the Feds can declare wars of humiliation. Makes them OP and scary. Fun game though.

I grew up watching TNG so it is awesome to have it in this game.

Yes. Some tech clean up and bug fixes will work some wonders. Fun game but it does need some cleanup.
It has very little replay value. It needs a sandbox mode.
Many thanks HC. I am a numbskull who would love to give this a go. Glad that a similar numbskull gives it a thumbs up. Cheers!
i ended up having to give up on paradox games as they consumed so much of my time. Love them soo much but i needed to stop.
