Man, that's exactly my point in my comment above. I thought it looked kind of funny (seriously) To me anytime anyone is kind of known for being one way, or being seen one way most if not all the time then to see them act the opposite has always been kind of funny to me. Roberto was kind of like the king of the scowl at least publicly, now to see him smiling and hugging is very entertaining to me. Loved me some Duran back in the day though.
That was so heart warming to see two of the greatest fighters in boxing history who couldn't stand each other 40 years ago to come together with love and respect for one another was just beautiful and I love the way Duran looked around like Leonard was still out to get him that was hilarious.
U outside ur mind lol tf u talking about? Sugar ray always been like this, he even defended duran saying he never said “no mas” when leonard was interviewed in 1982
Duran went 15 with Hagler and Leonard, didnt own him at all. These guys were tough and had balls, they didnt duck each other like they all do today. I wouldnt think SRL wld have it any other way, there s always something special about the first as they say no ..... People freak out that they are such good friends but real fighters who love it know that after the fight, its over. Aaron Pryor and Arguello were the same way.
Roberto Duran, man you have my utmost respect, a 4 time champion in different weight classes, fought guys bigger than you & knocked many of them out. He was still fighting in his 50's, lol that's amazing.
Roberto Duran and Ray Leonard on the dais together, wow! There's just not enough words to describe how great and talented both fighters were. Absolute living legends.
It's such a great feeling to see the sportsmanship here between two great champions and two great people. Mortal enemies becoming friends for life. Wouldn't that be something if the rest of the world could do the same?🙏
Two great legends of boxing. Love these guys. This was back when you saw real fights. Ray said when Roberto connected with a left hook in fight one, he had to have his teeth fixed. The punch moved his freaking teeth back.
Class acts . They were bitter rivals but in the end became very good friends. The fans of both fighters should remember that when discussing them both and not tear down either fighter.
He quit for frustration, not for coward, he had faced all the best fighters in the world, including Marvin Hagler, Carlos Palomino, Pipino Cuevas, all great punchers and nobody was able to knock him out except Hearns
@@05gnavarrofor frustration and for be a coward for being easyli destroyed by sugar, no más no más!!! A boxing legend but only a toy for sugar, be real and don't cry
Los dos fueron grandes boxeadores y se merecen muchos reconocimientos gracias a ellos vi una extraordinaria pelea si no es la mejor una de las mejores peleas.
Roberto Duran one of the best warriors on the ring, every fighter he faced said that he hit like a a ROCK, that's why they called him Mano de Piedra or Stone Hand Duran. They don't make them like that anymore.
Duran arguably the greatest lightweight of all time and when one considers the fights he gave to people who he had to go up two divisions and higher to fight and so were naturally bigger than him like Leonard, Hearns and Hagler. We can see that natural size advantage they had over him as we look at them today.
Ether He came close to beating Hagler and was the first to take him 15rds. Hagler was massive in size comparison, and as for the second fight Leonard made it knowing Duran would take it regardless because Leonard was the Mayweather of his day, if you wanted a big pay day you had to jump thru Rays hoops, so Duran had no time to take the weight off, Leonard talks about doing this on purpose all the time. The rubber match which Duran called for, Ray then made him wait 9 years by which time the older, smaller Duran was far, far past his best and due to his fighting style even more ring worn especially with the amount of hard fights he had compared to Ray.
It's pointless to even talk about a fight between "Manos de Piedra" and Mayweather. The fact is Floyd would of not been crazy enough to even sign a fight with him!
+FA Barragan People don't realize how great a boxer Duran was. Not just a slugger. He would have ate Floyd Jr. up with body shots and clean punches. This guy could go all out for fifteen rounds. Way to good.
+longtalltexan63 nope. Have you seen maidana vs mayweather 2? When Floyd moves around like how he moved around against Corrales and Catillo- he can't be beat. Floyd only changed his style after Mosley then maidana 2 he went back to that play it safe kinda style. Leanard out boxed the shit out of Duran in the 2 rematches so Floyd would have done the same. Floyds a boxer- they dont slug with a slugger.
+Kris DLC ...You could say what you want about what could of been, my comment was very clear. Floyd would of not signed a fight with Duran. He ducked Manny for 10 years and when the fight came to be it was a big dud!
FA Barragan how can u hit mayweather when he runs? Lets not forget alvarez, ortiz, and maidana were heavy punchers but none of them connected. Seriously what was wrong with the manny fight? Dont forget marquez ko manny but marquez vs floyd was his easiest fight. U can't tell me manny can handle real boxers? Manny only beats guys that try to fight him strength against strength. And floyd ran against manny and manny acted like it was a suprise, it was his fault, and as the commentator said- "well u trained for that right?" He fucked up. Lenard vs duran 1 lenard made no adjustments just kept trying to fight strength against strength. Floyd wouldn't have done that. Its simple, its boxing nigga, so box.
+Kris DLC Duran fought a fighter similar in style to Mayweather back when I was in High School, I'll say... 1974 , ( you know, cocky, fast, braggart,) with that" I am the Greatest" attitude about the time Duran was making his way up to fight Leonard he faced Monroe Brooks, this was the classic Duran, in shape, hungry and with that killer instinct that set him aside from the others. The Duran of the 80's and 90"was half the man we fight fans remember when he ruled his division for 6 years knocking out all, unlike fighters like Mayweather that have let 50% of his fights go to the generosity of the judges!
For me, Roberto Duran v Sugar Ray Leonard fights were among the greatest fights in boxing history. Like many others, I was a Leonard fan at the time, and Duran just frightened the hell out of me, even through the TV. I remember Leonard winding Duran up in the second fight and thinking "oh no, don't make him angry!" Duran turned out to be a really nice guy and Leonard was big enough to repeatedly advocate for his recognition as one of the greats. Leonard is smart and knows a great champion needs a great rival. Roberto Duran, Sugar Ray Leonard, Wilfred Benitez, Thomas Hearns and Marvin Hagler were 5 of the top boxers in 1980's and the very best competition for one another. What an era!! Their records against one another are as follows: Leonard 5 wins & 1 loss (to Duran) and 1 draw; Hagler 2 wins and 1 loss (to Leonard); Hearns 2 wins & 2 losses (to Leonard and Hagler) and 1 draw; Benitez 1 win and 2 losses (to Leonard & Hearns); Duran 1 win and 5 losses (2 to Leonard, 1 to Benitez, 1 to Hagler, 1 to Hearns). When you compare Roberto Duran to Sugar Ray Leonard during this incredible era of boxing, Duran lost to each of the other 4 while Leonard defeated all 4.
