EMOTION....I'm now 52' and I remember June 20th, 1980! "The Brawl In Montreal"....and to see these 2 legends now..it brought tears to my eyes! Life goes by so fucking fast!
+Nicky Depaola Before Cable there was something called "OnTv" and "Select Tv" and one could order pay per view events. I invited a few friends over to see it and by the time the fight was being announced I had to move the box out to my garage to accommodate the over flow, I even had neighbors come by that heard the cheers and just watched from the distance. The build up to this fight was incredible!
+Nicky Depaola Same here .... good to see such fierce warriors reunited in this way.
+Nicky Depaola I was 18 years old and stood by the TV waiting for a report from the round by round coverage. Its a night I will never ever forget.
+Nicky Depaola
the intensity of duran that first night, no one except hearns would ahve beaten that duran at welter,
+Bruce Lee me to it seemed like yesterday when they fought wow! Just Blink!
Roberto Duran laughing, giggling and hugging people.. Imagine that.. So happy too see both boxers who risk their lives and sacrifice their bodies as professional boxers...walking, talking and looking good. Congrats.
Man, that's exactly my point in my comment above. I thought it looked kind of funny (seriously) To me anytime anyone is kind of known for being one way, or being seen one way most if not all the time then to see them act the opposite has always been kind of funny to me. Roberto was kind of like the king of the scowl at least publicly, now to see him smiling and hugging is very entertaining to me. Loved me some Duran back in the day though.
That was so heart warming to see two of the greatest fighters in boxing history who couldn't stand each other 40 years ago to come together with love and respect for one another was just beautiful and I love the way Duran looked around like Leonard was still out to get him that was hilarious.
That was a wonderful event but the audio on my phone was awful and I could not hardly understand a word.
Sugar ray - I don't know where you had more class inside or outside the ring. 2 true legends
How naive
U outside ur mind lol tf u talking about? Sugar ray always been like this, he even defended duran saying he never said “no mas” when leonard was interviewed in 1982
Ray became a real legend 20years after he retired. Greater than ever.
Brought tears to eyes two legends showing so much respect and love for each other never be another Roberto Duran or Sugar Ray Leonard
The hug of srl for Duran was priceless. Brotherhood. You can feel it...
Two of the greatest fighters ever Respect from me !
Joseph Babica Zzzzzzzzz🥱
It's great to see these two great legends healthy and happy :)
Amen to that!
My respect goes to sugar ray for accepting the role to induct manos de piedra duran
+beto perea Man they both owned the 80's LEGENDS!!!!!!!
Yes, to all of it... Hagler got jobbed. If only they fought in 1983-84
@Joseph Babica Hagler lost to Leonard but he was also bigger than Ray and much bigger than Duran. Hagler was a middleweight while Duran was a LW.
Joseph Babica yawn. Zzzzzz. Leonard won. Period. Deal with it.
Duran went 15 with Hagler and Leonard, didnt own him at all. These guys were tough and had balls, they didnt duck each other like they all do today. I wouldnt think SRL wld have it any other way, there s always something special about the first as they say no ..... People freak out that they are such good friends but real fighters who love it know that after the fight, its over. Aaron Pryor and Arguello were the same way.
These were the real days of boxing. No running around the ring BS wasting peoples $$$. Both fighters at their prime put on great shows.
SuperSw21 your right boxing today isn't like it used to be R.I.P ALI a true legend in my eyes god bless Ali and his family
michael Castle wait they didnt have a 3rd fight
@@pianogiovanna4854 yes
@michael Castle you talk about Duran running out the fight and quitting like a bitch? In this case yes, everyone see that
Joseph Babica do you always SCREAM at people in your texts?🤦🏻♂️
Roberto Duran, man you have my utmost respect, a 4 time champion in different weight classes, fought guys bigger than you & knocked many of them out. He was still fighting in his 50's, lol that's amazing.
One of the greatest fighters in our era. " Hands of Stone !"
Roberto Duran and Ray Leonard on the dais together, wow! There's just not enough words to describe how great and talented both fighters were. Absolute living legends.
its always great to see these two guys together, whether theyre exchanging blows or compliments. so much respect for them both.
LAS MANOSSS DE PIEDRAA ROBERTO DURAN! BIG Respect forever from your Spanish Fans !
It's such a great feeling to see the sportsmanship here between two great champions and two great people. Mortal enemies becoming friends for life. Wouldn't that be something if the rest of the world could do the same?🙏
Amen!
So true
Kumbaya.
Talk about aging gracefully. Sugar man looks very young.
Roberto looks very happy and it’s good to see him getting inducted
Fighters like Duran come around maybe once in a generation, and that's it. My dream match-up is still a Duran v. Julio Cesar Chavez fight at 135 lbs.
Whoooweee!That would be a firestorm!!!!!
Duran would win
I have always been a fan of Duran in his prime. there has never6been anyone better
Enormous pugilist Duran, I miss too much that time, strong fighter, always forward, Leonard amazing speed, the best....
I'm a Leonard fan, Duran quit in the 2nd fight but that doesn't make him a coward. both guys giants of boxing. just watch the 1st fight
He quit for frustration, not for coward, he had faced all the best fighters in the world, including Marvin Hagler, Carlos Palomino, Pipino Cuevas, all great punchers and nobody was able to knock him out except Hearns
@@05gnavarrofor frustration and for be a coward for being easyli destroyed by sugar, no más no más!!! A boxing legend but only a toy for sugar, be real and don't cry
Tarola He wasn’t a toy in the first fight fool 🤷🏻♂️
When they first hug....thats respect.....If you experienced live fight by these 2 legends......thats life man.
the wars this guys had!!! epic!!!
Two all time legendary gods right there.
His daughter such a beautiful person like her father god bless berto. D & his family
Great moment-I never thought I'd see that.
To great men and great champions God bless them both and thank you for the memories
Roberto and Ray used to hate each other, now it's all love.
Roberto Duran, greatest pure fighter ever to lace them up
2 great champs and real fighters..
Sugar is still in a great shape. A man very human, gentle, friendly with a such fresh look and realy good in hearth.
Duran arguably the greatest lightweight of all time and when one considers the fights he gave to people who he had to go up two divisions and higher to fight and so were naturally bigger than him like Leonard, Hearns and Hagler. We can see that natural size advantage they had over him as we look at them today.
he beat leonard once out of 3 fights, he got his ass whupped by hearns and haggler, other than that what makes him even relevant?
Ether LOL Fuck you noob...
Vincent Marduk lol jusy sayin bro
Ether
He came close to beating Hagler and was the first to take him 15rds. Hagler was massive in size comparison, and as for the second fight Leonard made it knowing Duran would take it regardless because Leonard was the Mayweather of his day, if you wanted a big pay day you had to jump thru Rays hoops, so Duran had no time to take the weight off, Leonard talks about doing this on purpose all the time. The rubber match which Duran called for, Ray then made him wait 9 years by which time the older, smaller Duran was far, far past his best and due to his fighting style even more ring worn especially with the amount of hard fights he had compared to Ray.
well you could say the same of Manny Pacquiao who probably is fighting 3 weight division abouve his natural weight.
Two of the greatest
Roberto Duran one of the best warriors on the ring, every fighter he faced said that he hit like a a ROCK, that's why they called him Mano de Piedra or Stone Hand Duran. They don't make them like that anymore.
These days there are no more fighters...Since 2000 there are only proffesional pussys entering the ring..
this brings tears of joy!! 2 legends!!
It's great to see them embracing.
For me, Roberto Duran v Sugar Ray Leonard fights were among the greatest fights in boxing history. Like many others, I was a Leonard fan at the time, and Duran just frightened the hell out of me, even through the TV. I remember Leonard winding Duran up in the second fight and thinking "oh no, don't make him angry!" Duran turned out to be a really nice guy and Leonard was big enough to repeatedly advocate for his recognition as one of the greats. Leonard is smart and knows a great champion needs a great rival. These guys certainly created some great memories together. They are both heroes to me and I'm so glad they are growing old with dignity and love.
Very few people knew he was half Mexican you can tell by his pressure 🇲🇽🇵🇦
Ray Leonard is a kool dude. Roberto was a force to be reckoned with. I love both these guys.
so sad that we will never see such titans of the ring like these again
Never say never, it’ll take a change, but it is possible and we should always desire it.. It is like many sports, they have altered what the powers that be, want.. Most the masses wanted a Mayweather, they don’t know any better… It’s an unbeaten record vs one that accepts defeat but ultimately triumphs albeit on a second attempt… Most the greats have fought those that are capable of beating them on their day… Consequently they occasionally lost..
Tennis changed to allow clay, hard and grass players to play on all surfaces… It has lead to a baseline game, favoring the fittest and strongest and not so much the most naturally gifted, on a given surface.. Homogenization of surfaces was a way of keeping the big names in the for front.. Television rules currently…
We still produce the Duran’s, SRL, McEnroe’s and Henri Leconte’s of this world, it is only their respective sports don’t want them any more… It is all about tv, advertisements, sponsorships and these type of players are by definition unpredictable and less of a consistent day in day out cash cow..
That's what makes me sad there will never be such great fighters or fights like that again
Doesn’t get much better in sports than this.
legends forever the kings of the ring duran and leonard brothers of boxing
congratulation SR.DURAN! truly you deserve it,
Sugar Ray - my hero always, and always a class act (as well as Senior Manos De Piedra!)
Wow didn't know Duran's father was Mexican! I loved seeing the friendship between Sugar and Duran.
Exacto, NADA.
Great to see these two boxing legends as friends and looking so well, respect !!
Congrats to Hands Of Stone . You gave us fight fans so many memories.
It's pointless to even talk about a fight between "Manos de Piedra" and Mayweather. The fact is Floyd would of not been crazy enough to even sign a fight with him!
+FA Barragan People don't realize how great a boxer Duran was. Not just a slugger. He would have ate Floyd Jr. up with body shots and clean punches. This guy could go all out for fifteen rounds. Way to good.
+longtalltexan63 nope. Have you seen maidana vs mayweather 2? When Floyd moves around like how he moved around against Corrales and Catillo- he can't be beat. Floyd only changed his style after Mosley then maidana 2 he went back to that play it safe kinda style. Leanard out boxed the shit out of Duran in the 2 rematches so Floyd would have done the same. Floyds a boxer- they dont slug with a slugger.
+Kris DLC ...You could say what you want about what could of been, my comment was very clear. Floyd would of not signed a fight with Duran. He ducked Manny for 10 years and when the fight came to be it was a big dud!
FA Barragan how can u hit mayweather when he runs? Lets not forget alvarez, ortiz, and maidana were heavy punchers but none of them connected. Seriously what was wrong with the manny fight? Dont forget marquez ko manny but marquez vs floyd was his easiest fight. U can't tell me manny can handle real boxers? Manny only beats guys that try to fight him strength against strength. And floyd ran against manny and manny acted like it was a suprise, it was his fault, and as the commentator said- "well u trained for that right?" He fucked up. Lenard vs duran 1 lenard made no adjustments just kept trying to fight strength against strength. Floyd wouldn't have done that. Its simple, its boxing nigga, so box.
+Kris DLC Duran fought a fighter similar in style to Mayweather back when I was in High School, I'll say... 1974 , ( you know, cocky, fast, braggart,) with that" I am the Greatest" attitude about the time Duran was making his way up to fight Leonard he faced Monroe Brooks, this was the classic Duran, in shape, hungry and with that killer instinct that set him aside from the others. The Duran of the 80's and 90"was half the man we fight fans remember when he ruled his division for 6 years knocking out all, unlike fighters like Mayweather that have let 50% of his fights go to the generosity of the judges!
This is awesome love it god bless Roberto and Suger Ray both champions in my eyes.
What an emotional scene of those two legends,
I spoke with Duran's daughter in 2002 and explained that I'd be totally honoured to marry her, she gushed and was very flattered, until I explained, that way I can be closer to Roberto Duran! She laughed it off with a discontented frown.
thats just gay as fuck lol
Jordan Jones HAHAHAHA. It was funny though got to give the man some credit hahahahaha
Duran brought pride to Spanish people world wide he rose up ruled and did a lot for sports thanks Roberto Duran
Sugar Ray looks looks like he can still fight.
He might be the better aged man on the planet. Alien genes.
I was about to say he looks ready to step in the ring!
he got whopped by camacho 🇵🇷🇵🇷🇵🇷
Duran always be my favorite all time in his prime at lightweight he was a beast
Roberto Duran, my favorite fighter.
Dos. Increíbles. Boxeadores. Deleite verlos y ahora juntos. Que hermoso!!!!
Roberto and Sugar Ray are a class act I enjoyed throughout the years seeing these two displaying their love of boxing and they are indeed Champions not only in the ring but in life and I am glad to to see that they became good friends, God Bless them both.
Congrats Roberto. Sugar Ray seems like such a nice guy, money is always needed by workers, etc.
Love the mutual respect between 2 great fighters
Leonard is all class
One of the best of all time.
Sugar ray showed the true sportsmansip.
2 of the top ten fighters of alltime. The 80s, one of the best decades for boxing. Produced so many superfights.
Roberto is still my favorite fighter ever.
2 of the greatest
Sugar Ray is a class act and without a doubt the best. Facts are he took the best of the best right on the jaw and beat them all !!
Duran was one tough S.O.B.!
Roberto and Ray
Arriba Panama!
One of the greatest roberto duran
SRL is aging gracefully while Duran is turning into Danny Devito.
jamx97 I was thinking in Joe Pesci :D
Melchi Zedeq Hahahahaha yeah you're right
jamx97 How many pro fights did Ray have? How many did Roberto have? Show some respect to a guy who fought over 5 decades of professional fighting.
jamx97 True. But Duran always put on a lot of pounds (fat, not muscle) when he wasn't preparing for a signed fight. Ray stayed in pretty good shape all the time.
blite13 I agree with every word you said. Ask most pro's today, who were your hero's when you were growing up, i'll guarantee 90% will put Roberto in their top five.
Duran is one of the all time great at the height of his powers. He he ruled the lightweight division..The world had never seen a fighter like him then he move up and weight and beat Leonard and I believe if they would have gave him time to train he would have beat Leonard again...They didn't give time to get ready for the second fight Duran new he was not ready....He is and will always be one of my favorite fighter..Duran never back down from no one he didn't know what fear was Simply put that why they called him the hands of stone..
What is the boxing hall of fame if it doesn't have Roberto Duran. Good to see him relaxed and happy, leonard on the other hand is suave and youthful as ever.
Wish Duran vs CHavez would have happened that would have been one to see
Duran as a lightweight against Alexis Arguello. I hope I spelled his last name right.
SALVADOR SANCHEZ VS DURAN OR LEONARD??
@@12106445 Duran would have beaten Alexis, just too strong and too skilled.
@@raulrxr6058 Sanchez was too small to compete with Duran or Leonard
Sugar seems like a class act.
Two of the greatest fighters and men of all time.
Speaking of great Mexican fighters ... Julio Cesar Chavez, Sal Sanchez ....
indeed....r.i.p. to Sanchez. I was in jr. high school when he was doing his thing and tragically died.
Salvador Sanchez!!!! What a freak of nature. May God rest his soul. We lost him so soon.
Chavez one of the greatest of all time
Congrats legend
I remember seeing train at the old Marañon gym, in Panama City, as a lightweight and I was there on this glorious night at the Tropicana Hotel, in Las Vegas, in the summer of 2014. I am the one who yelled “Viva Panama” at the 5-minute mark-notice Sugar Ray’s reaction.
Roberto Duran was a baaaaad man. Well deserved.
Boxing Legend
Nice to see them getting along.
If I had a time machine and could witness any historical event the Brawl in Montreal would be very close to the top for me. Man I would loved to have been there when an all time great lightweight moved up to welterweight to challenge another all time great for the title. It is awesome to watch on video but I know it would have been unbelievable to have been there. I was a 13 year old kid in 1980 but was an amateur boxer and a huge fan of both of these champions.
Roberto should come to America and run for President ! Maybe he could fix our mess .
Leonard ..Duran hernes.. hagler...ci avete .. deliziato...del miglior pugilato di tutti i tempi..li amo tutti
2 of the 4 kings
Roberto Duran was cocky and beating ass and taking names. He was a good man.
2 great fighters
1975 Duran puts Ray Lamkin in the hospital in Panama. When duran was interviewed he exclaimed " next time he come to Panama, I keel heem!", Later that day Duran would visit the unconcious Lampkin at the hospital and kiss him on his cheek.
Two heroes, at one time foes but, in the end it was those indifferences that brought them closer than ever.
good for you duran
