Brown join the show, how creepy the rehearsal baby doll is, and why it's sexist to judge Midge's mothering. Plus, they play a hilarious game of "Tony or Bologna" to see how much they know about their cast mate Tony Shalhoub.
She’s a mom because it’s what was expected of her as a woman of the time, not that this expectation has changed much. She became a mom before she was ready for it. That’s what’s being shown. It’s realistic to me.

Parenting in the fifties was WAY different than it is today. To imply Midge is a bad mother is dumb. She is a classic fifties mom. It is true that her ground breaking effects everyone she is related to, however.
Joel pays more attention to the kids in the show tbh. He's not much better but he seems more interested in them. Maybe the lack of noticing the children is supposed to be a statement about the times? Children were kind of seen not heard.
I think honestly midge just had kids cause of what was expected of her she never actually wanted kids she wasnt ready for them , not her fault obviously but I think joel just formed more of a bond with them

I think it's kind of a running joke or just a thing from back then. I mean they forget them in the car most of the time.

I watched all 3 seasons over the course of one full week (with a full time job) and I have to say, this was so good to watch in the middle of this ongoing pandemic. Thanks ASP and Dan for another binge worthy show!
I can't wait for S3. Everything about this programme is amazing.

Binge watched this series over 2 evenings. Still very funny, production and cast was wonderful but now have to wait for season 4😭
People don’t criticize Joel’s parenting because he’s actually doing the parenting.

Agreed. He wants to get better apartments/jobs in their best interest, happily takes care of them while she's on tours with Susie (season 2 and 3)...the pursuit for Joel as a parent is there, even if he wasn't satisfied as Midge's husband. Neither Joel nor Midge is necessarily a "great" parent, but Joel is for sure the lesser of the two evils. However, the whole catalyst for this show is Midge realizing that her life as a mother and wife were mostly because society trained her to be and want it, not because she genuinely wanted to be a mother/wife.

But before that Midge is the one taking them to parks, reading bedtime stories, organises for their birthday parties(cooking and the goodie bags), knows all about Esther's medicine and Ethan's fave toy of the week, stays outside in the rain for Ethan's playdates. People be acting like she doesnt know their names.
Even in S3 she sits down and types up a meticulous schedule as to who will care for them while during the tour, she also tries to buy the apartment back so that she can give her family stability and her kids the best education. Joel, while it's great that he stepped up- it's not like he is is around them all the time. He is dependant on his parents to look after the kids in Queens while he works late setting new club just like Midge was.
Midge is a fascinating human being but she is selfish, so it reflects so much on her mother side

Midge even admitted that her children aren‘t like „everything“ for her and thats totally ok considering those kids have a pretty big family. She wants to follow her dreams. But I would not say Midge hates them, she loves them.

They don’t ask that about Joel because he is home. Yes he works, but he didn’t up and decide to go on a 6 month tour after two minutes of thought. Soooo....

But he did up and leave his wife (and kids) without a second thought, even talked about buying them an apartment but moving far away, and asked to see Ethan but never asked about seeing Esther (s1). He does step up but doesnt get criticism for putting his wants and career first, which is what she did, due to expectation of their roles. (My theory 😊)
@@KerriEngland Joel cares practically only about his son, not with his daughter at all, and that says a lot about that too.
I look at this as a show and being fiction the children are not real and so there is no need for child care. I love the show for what it is really about Mrs Maisel's career and life.
Midge is a narcissist. Her kids are accessories to her life, not central. But we still love her and celebrate her dreams. Crazy.
