Thank you, Bernie! It can also be made without a flat front and just all elastic. I like that it gives that neat stitching between the elastic lines without fiddling around! :) and... uses up all that narrow elastic that I have! win-win :)
Would you recommend multiple strips of elastic rather than one wider strip? Could you use a wider strip and run 2 or 3 rows of stitching around to secure it?
Great question, Jinny! Those two actually look quite different. I would say doing multiple rows of elastic can you give you the freedom of using as many rows as you would like and therefore making that waistband as thick as needed, using one wide elastic can only depend on how wide the elastic is, which is usually 1.5"-2". Here are shorts tutorial where I do one wide elastic waistband with the finish that you mention - you can see how different that finish looks to what you see in this tutorial :) I hope this helps - ua-cam.com/video/uzlWsvJLO-g/v-deo.html
This is just the video I’ve been looking for. Should have known you’d have one. Thank you so much. I love all your videos and find them inspiring as well as giving me the skills I need to build on. I love the idea that I can make and adapt my own designs as I learn more and more.
We're impressed with your sewing skills! 😊 We would love to collaborate with you on a sewing project. Please check your email as we have sent you a message regarding a potential collaboration.
I’ve just finished the waistband and and I can’t believe how easy it was and it looks so good i’ve tried doing a few other elastic waistbands and they’ve always come out wrong I will be doing this type a lot more thank you a lot
Thank you so much for all your inspirational videos, love what you are doing. Working on my own Palazzo pants at the moment :-), obviously with this waistband ...
That’s brilliant! I’m drafting some shorts for some leftover fabric, Hope I have enough to do this finish🤞I think I’ll have to piece some fabric together, so this might be the solution 😃although possibly have to go without ties this time. Your videos and instructions are great. Thanks Alisa
Love it! Excellent tutorial. I have a skirt that I want tobuse this for. Its been unfinished in mybcloset for a while because i didnt like the conventional elastic waistband.
Anne, hello there, not sure I understand - what bulk? If you have a gathered waist pant then you already have gathers at the waist, adding a waistband isn't going to change or emphasize that. You can go to my green palazzo pants video and see the drafting/sewing steps.
That's a really cool way of making a waist band look more finished and pretty. I love your videos. ❤

Thank you for this tutorial. Plan on using this alot!
What a great video! I am going to try this method to a skirt.
That will work, too! Any pull on garment where you can insert a regular elastic waistband - this will work :)
Morning. Happy Holiday As always you score a 10 !!!!!!!
Thank you, Deb, for always being so kind!
I like the look of the finish. I can see it being used on many types of garments.
Oh yes! You can use this on the bottom of a sports jackets or on the cuffs of a blouse or sweatshirt, too. Good thinking, Ruby! Thank you!

Good idea, but doesn't that add a lot of bulk to the waist band? Thanks.
