Sorrel Drink aka Flor de JAMAICA! 🌺

- Опубліковано 22 гру 2022
- Sorrel is a Christmas classic in Jamaica, and there and it seems like every family makes it a little bit different. Rasta Devon is brewing some up today, with a ton of ginger and pimento for some extra kick! Also known as Flor de Jamaica or Hibiscus, this beautiful flower is packed with antioxidants, and can help with inflammation, liver health and weight loss!. We chat about all the different ways to make sorrel, dry vs fresh , being without fresh water for days, EAT some cooked sorrel ( tastes like cranberry/cabbage!) and much more. Have a great Christmas/Hannukah/Holidays!
bless up,
Matthew & Devon

@Miles Doyle Larry Wheels also bled for us. On more than one occasion. He wasn’t carrying nearly the weight that Jesus Christ did, but still
VERY popular drink in México
Cheers my brothers!!!
Nice to see Devon. He is an amazing chef and knows how to make any type of natural drink. Kind man. Say hi to Mokko and his clan. Happy holidays to all. Stay safe.
Will do!! Bless up.
FYI. Like many popular plants grown in the Caribbean region, sorrel has its origins in West Africa. Known as Roselle, or less by its scientific name 'Hibiscus sabdariffa', sorrel is a species of the Hibiscus family. It bears annually, maturing in about six months and growing to about 7-8 ft.
It was many years ago i discovered your channel. It gives me nostalgia watching your earliest videos. So good to see fresh videos here. I'm not saying that you havent been here all the time but i recently found back to this channel and i still love it.
I found out about Jamaican Sorrel a few weeks ago, tried it (ofc only with dried flowers here in germany) and it was awesome. Coincidentally you just put up a video about it. Cheers from Overseas!

Glad you liked it
He has this very cool personality. I love how he made the sorrel, that's how I make mine but I add some cinnamon leaves at times. Every Jamaican home has this drink during the Christmas season.
Nice! That sounds good too.
😀Hi Matthew the sorrel is really delicious drink had some myself Christmas holiday Happy New Year❤🎉💫
So good! Happy holidays to you too!
Seasons Greetings Matthew and tell your neighbors next door in Canada blessings from beautiful Trinidad and Tobago ❤ 🇹🇹.

Merry Christmas from Orlando Florida. 🇵🇹🇺🇸🇯🇲
Here we call it Aguita de Jamaica!
Jamaica in Mexico is a tea made from steeped Hibiscus flower.
Merry Christmas happy new year from Snoop to Ras Matthew Devon and mokko
Merry Christmas Matthew! That WAS a special video. Man I'm tingling 😂 Boiled water too! That's a treat. I always found that when I cooled boiling water, with no sediment, it was in a new league on it's own. I'd call it a treat. I'm going to boil some water right now and cool it. Pass the spliff Matthew 😂 I got THE BEST water! But actually I think the real best water would have minerals or vitamins in it but still. It's detectable and clearly next level. You feel cleaner for sure.
Love them it so good when they're dry they had them in our store but now we don't I sure want some badly can't find them no more ☺️
Jamaica 🇯🇲 is my go to drink so delicious and like the other brotha said goes great with cannabis 🔥
I've always use pimento berry to make sorrel. Some use cloves or both. I personally just put in pimento berry.
I'm sorry you misunderstood me I take sorrel also kno as hibiscus. And add pimento, ginger, orange peel and cinnamon. When I said I make sorrel with pimento I ment as an ingredient to flavor the sorrel. Merry Christmas
I love watching ras kitchen videos
So happy you like them!
Merry Ras Christmas
Sorrel is a traditional drink during Christmas time in all of the Caribbean not just Jamaica. Black fruit cake is a traditional cake during Christmas time not only in Jamaica but in all of the Caribbean.
My mom always makes it. I love me some sorrol
Nice video again. Merry Christmas.
Thanks, you too!
Bless up famo
Is it the same as hibiscus? I love hibiscus tea, it's so pretty
Yes, it is!
I like sorrel drink but not with pimento (allspice) or cloves, just some red label wine added to it! The lack of pipe water for days is something that I could never get used to again. I remember it happening quite frequently as a child and it was such an inconvenience. Rasta Devon is so chill he just takes everything in stride- good vibes!
Agua de Jamaica ❤️❤️❤️❤️🇲🇽
I’ve got my sorrel in the fridge now, it’s a Christmas drink for Trinis too!
Enjoy!
I make Sorrell. I pound my all spice seeds a little to open it up. I soak my sorrell in refrigerator for quite some time. I boil my water and add Sorrell and spices. It delicious. I don't boil the Sorrell. I add to hot water.I add Anise spice sometimes. Oranges sliced I add them to sometimees cinnamon. Limes are good but if you over do it it makes it tart.
I need that!!
Hi Matt, Merry Christmas Brother, just watching the new vid now, big up, made my day a great one, thank you, bless up one Love.
Glad you like it. Bless up
I get it to buy in Massachusetts, fresh jut like Devon’s they also dried package ones.
we call it bissap
I was born and raised in the UK, but have a Jamaican father, we grew up drinking Sorrel all year round, not just at Christmas time. I now live in Mexico where flor de Jamaica is just as popular, but here they use the petals, whereas Jamaica use the buds, as good as it tastes here in Mexico, the Jamaican version tastes even better. 🇯🇲🇲🇽
Saludos desde México una aguita de jamaica bien heladita...👌🏿🇲🇽
Looks good
My Canadian-Guyanese friends turned me on to sorrel many Christmas' ago.
Love
There's also white sorrell. Some yrs ago i read an article that student scientists from UWI did an experiment using white sorrel to treat liver cancer.
I like your recipe for sorrel....it is very simple to make. I add cinnamon sticks to mine, unfortunately fresh sorrel is not always available so I use dried sorrel,
That's a great idea!
🔥🔥🔥
As a Mexican living in the Mexican Caribbean (cancun) I've met a lot of jamaicans and when I recommend them agua de jamaica, they don't know what it is until they try and they'll say it taste like sorrel. So yes. I've come to conclusion that "agua de jamaica" is named after this Jamaican drink only without the pepper and ginger. (Hibiscus only).
Good drink
Yes iyah
Bless everyone who grows this plant in their yard. You will see people tell you to let the pods dry on the plant for seeds and I think that is a good Idea but here is another one to go with you through the season. When you harvest your calyxys save your green seed pods and just set them somewhere dry and cool for like 1-2 months and they will naturally dry and crack open and low and behold your seeds aren't white anymore but brown and good to plant.
🔥🔥
Yes Matt hew di Sarrel
When its dry the flavor gets stronger.
In Panama we call it "chicha de saril" very popular for christmas season
Nice!
After it boil squeeze lime n salt cut it up with cucumber n lil vinger really good
We have this in guyana 🇬🇾 sorrel drink
When we were children,we made up a story about bra anansi,so real, so real, explained bra anansi.
Merry Christmas Devon.5hanks for sharing, please is it fresh rice or perboiled or cooked rice that can be added to the Sorrell to ferment. Thankd.
Raw rice uncooked
I pay sooo much for the dried stuff here in Canada . It's Hibiscus. Great for a cold with honey

Sorrel is very popular throughout tue Caribbean. I was surprised to hear Mexican friends call it "flor de Jamaica". Don't even know Jamaicans who call it that.
That's interesting. Thanks for sharing. Bless up 🙌
Obviously two different places two different names. Like most countries eat the samething but have different names for it.
