I really hope god gave him the peace he deserves! RIP Popcorn Sutton. I’m just glad we have you here on UA-cam. When I’m feeling depressed I just turn on one of his videos and it’s like a instant mood change!
Popcorn's little mischievous laugh really gets me lol it's as if whenever he laughs its the laughter of a 25 yr old Popcorn This man is a national treasure, it was despicable what our own government did to this old man..
Frankie Rizzo people like you what’s wrong why you blaming people for literally adapting to what the fuck they were born into niggas act like we can control the fact that be discoveries are coming out to make life easier for people we can’t help it that from a young age were groomed to spend the entire day in school then parents most of the time have they’re kids watching tv or on the computer or on the phone or playing with some unnecessary ass toys when they could literally be learning life in they’re most impressionable state of being but continue to talk shit and then raise your kids programmed to act the exact same (brainwashed) your life🤷🏽♂️
Rest in peace Popcorn Sutton. you and the people of the Appalachian mountains are the greatest of the American people. From an admiring and deeply respectful Lancastrian from the UK.
So it turns out another proud son of lancashire discovered this treasure, in return please allow me to show you one of our own local sons. They just don't make them like they use to. ua-cam.com/video/3R3-YwDZrzg/v-deo.html Fred Dibnah laddering an old chimney for inspection.
There's war now about throw us all into chaos, but I come here and escape with popcorn and JD. JD is every bit of a legend as Popcorn just more low key.
Popcorn Sutton, Jim Bean, Johnny Walker and Jack Daniels are all doing the thump keg waltz in heaven right now!! May they forever thump keg waltz in peace!
Popcorn is hunched over due to Kyphosis, in which the spine bends giving a hunched over appearance usually from very poor posture or from someone who worked their lives always having to be bent over. RIP popcorn, you are an icon, then and now. If only you were still out there in them hills makin the shine! We love ya buddy!
i like this . the family should make copies to sell so they have money to pay for Popcorns upkeep . He was a true American legend and he should have a museum built about his life and those who taught him
If I knew about Popcorn Sutton I would've drove all the way from western Kentucky to pay very well for a mason jar of shine. They don't make em like that anymore. Only reason why the gov made it illegal is that they can't get any tax money from it.
brings me back a few years i helped my great grandpa and grandpa run their still i was no more than 11 at the time last i made was over 20 years ago just to show my son what i had to do when i was a kid
If your interested in making shine ,look for the book series called foxfire , they cover old time skills from farming to skinning and preparing meat ,and moon shine amongst other subjects .
It's in a separate barrel or container to filter it through once the alcohol is distilled off. Like he said, the first batch through it will be darker because the charcoal is "new". Subsequent filtrations will be clear.
@demnlordd666 1) To double distill the alcohol while removing more and more impurities. It uses the steam from the pot and pushes through the back ends, evaporating more alcohol along the way and distilling at a higher proof, (2)thus the reason you don't use water in a thump keg. Wouldn't do any good.
there has been some speculation that the fact that he was going to prison isn't the only reason he took his own life. some believe he was sick and didn't want to die in prison. or even take the chance that he might. no telling for sure i guess.
Wait... It boils and goes into that wooden barrel, then leaves that barrel to the worm? I'm not following what the wooden barrel before the worm is for.
@WildlifeSeriaLKiller ok so it is a reflux chamber kinda. the alcohol steam mix hits the colder back ends in the thump keg, but only the alcohol is mobile enough to stay in vapor form while the water steam looses too much energy and gets stuck, then you are passing more alcohol to the worm. ok so when you are done with the run, are the back ends the last out the worm or the stuff left in the thump keg that still has alcohol?
1) what is the function of the stump keg? I understand the construction and flow of steam but not why it is important unless it is some kind of simple reflux chamber. could some one explain it a bit? 2) why do the bakkins need to be used instead of clean water or plain moon shine? I get that it is a mix of alcohol and water, and probably keeps more water and lets alcohol pass at the gas/liquid interface. but could some one explain?
to distill the alcohol removing impurities. it will take steam from the pot to push the back ends and evaporat alcohol during the process and distill for hihger proof.pluse 180 proof is what it goes into but usually you can only get 160 proof. (2) not any good if you use water
you can skip the thumper but it's dangerous. the thumper catches bad stuff, as wall as tempers it ( lowers the alcohol content) diluting any methanol that gets through. the best way to control these things though is to carefully control the temprature. ethanol, methanol, water, etc. all have a different boiling point so if you have the still at or within a couple degrees of the ethanol vapor point, you get only ethanol and stuff that boils at colder tempratures.
I WORKED FOR A TRUCKING COMPANY AWHILE BACK AND THEY HAD SOME OLD BOYS FROM THE SOUTH THAT WOULD BRING SOME SHINE TO US SOME OF THOSE FOOLS WOULD PUT WATER IN IT TOLD THEM YOUR RUINING SOME GOOD LIKKER
@WildlifeSeriaLKiller ,What if you dont have any back ends, could you not use the thump keg and run it straight through the worm? and maybe save the back ends from that run to use next time. Or could you do like demnlord666 said and use moonshine in the thump keg? Thank for posting these videos by the way, love watching Popcorn I already watched these several times..
@daryljo1 I have seen it. It's a fine documentary that does use quite a bit of this footage. I prefer this one though. More footage, more stories, more Popcorn Sutton and J.B. Rader. This is my favorite film.
scottnsuzs, it is the tails from the last run, it is used to catch impurities in the steam. You can use water, but it lowers the proof, if you use the backings it keeps good proof, and gain just a little more likker out of the run.
@jparment1 steam from fist barell goes into thump and the heat from the steam heats up the backings witch makes it steam from tump goes in worm then turs into liquid after getting chilled from cold water in worm barell
Thank you !!! Well, that is surely the old way to do it, Brista makes good charcoal filters that we can use today and may be good to not altered the taste like real charcoal did !! But you are right !! TNX again !!! :)
Question, at the minute 7:20 of this vid, Popcorn is talking about a "far cole" or something like that, seems to be the filter or something, can someone tell me what he uses for as filter and what is far cole ?? Thank you much..!!
She had 2 tablespoons a night. Now as I grew he would say there's sosos car I one day asked him how he knew he said it was parked there because he has a still on that creek. Every where he Gould find clean water he
I think they did a tribute to him in Red Dead 2. He apparently looks exactly the same (same cloths same beard same everything) and is a moon shiner. I think he helps you make shine in the game.
I really hope god gave him the peace he deserves! RIP Popcorn Sutton. I’m just glad we have you here on UA-cam. When I’m feeling depressed I just turn on one of his videos and it’s like a instant mood change!

Popcorn killed himself by sitting in a closed car/truck rather than go to jail for moonshining.
Now I'm young but i realised I'm gonna be happily old as him some days

My uncle was so much like popcorn, he died a few years back, miss him talking about the old days

They caught me in 98 so I quite... 2011...

Any idea on how you can tell the difference between the "head" and the "prime?" Or how much of the first bit to throw out?

Fascinating.
How about english sub-titles for people who don't understand the dialect?
Miss ya Popcorn. Teaching the girls what you taught me.
Legal or not, the real crime would be not to record it for posterity. 100 yrs time, it will be in a museum, as 'They Way We Use to Live'.
Any body know is, white lighting. Moonshine ????
White lightning and moonshine are the same thing.
Anyone knows where this film was made?? Filming location??
Western North Carolina mountains.

Right on
Popcorn shouldn't have committed suicide. He was awesome. He was going to withstand for 3 yrs.
This is real living..
Why did he pour the "backings" into that one barrel? I've never heard of that being done.
scottnsuzs, it is the tails from the last run, it is used to catch impurities in the steam. You can use water, but it lowers the proof, if you use the backings it keeps good proof, and gain just a little more likker out of the run.
What a legend
Listen to a tribute to Popcorn by typing in Ode to Popcorn Sutton, Ginny McAfee. TYVM!
