Crazy that it’s taken this long for someone to create an intervalometer for the iPhone, even though it’s something that should already be on it; I mean god it would be so much more useful than the stupid shutter button on the 16! BTW could you do the same stacking on Astro Shader too?

Thanks for the video on this new tool. I’ve ordered mine today! Question: Night mode on my iPhone 14 Pro only allows up to 10 sec exposures. How do you get yours to run at 30 seconds?
Depends on darkness, if there is light or light pollution it will change accordingly. And you have to mount your phone on tripod or something that will hold your phone otherwise it will not go beyond 10 sec
Is it easy to find dark skies without light pollution in Oz? I have to drive for hours in the UK to get anywhere remotely good, then there's a very high chance of just seeing full cloud cover. I would love to be able to take shots like this, nice work.
Nice product, so when do you think Apple will include that type of functionality in the iPhones like Samsung has with their Hyperlapse mode that is already on theirs? I’m been having a blast with my S23 Ultra.
I doubt they will. The hyperlapse on the Samsung is great, but not the same. This can be done with the intervalometer app on the androids though. But the stacking into a video is harder to do.
Bought it straight after watching your video and the thumbnail says it all ‘This is what I’ve been waiting for…’. By the way, could you do me a favor and check on one of those separate photos and check what the Photos app says how long the exposure was of that photo? I’ve done some 30 seconds photos and lateron the Photos app told me the exposure was only 1,5 or 2, 3 seconds, but never the full 10 or 30 seconds. Very curious what your exposure is 👍
Ah, scratch that question. I did handheld photos of the Aurora while ‘fixing’ the phone against an old cannon (I live in an old fortified city, that’s why the cannons 😂). I used 10 seconds and also 30 seconds, but when I check these photos on the iPhone I see that they were only exposed for 0,5 / 1 / 1,5 / 2 seconds, but never 10 or 30. That’s of course because the iPhone 14 Pro Max noticed a little movement and that’s why the exposure time was far shorter. I just tried a 30 seconds exposure with the iPhone on a tripod and I got the full 30 seconds 👍
Interesting device, too bad it's not available for Android 😢 I wanted to ask if you are aware of the possibility of astrophography with Vivo x200 pro, thanks.
Thanks Shayne. I’ve just purchased both the Lumilapse and the Star Tracker app. I want to see if the app can make a timelapse out of the 900 plus daytime photos I’ve taken of Mt Taranaki from my truck everyday of my freight run (not exactly the same spot everyday but close so not expecting miracles🙂).
@@ShayneMostyn it does work but my photos were taken out of my truck windscreen so they don’t exactly line up to stack properly. Maybe I need to fix a camera somewhere and make sure the settings don’t change for another 954 days to get back to where I am now ha ha!

Nope, well not like this. There are intervalometers on some photog apps, but only 1-2 seconds. Even Longer did it a while ago to 30 seconds, but the quality is not quite there with the end resulting images. Has to do with what Apple lets the developers have access to in the camera.
@@ShayneMostyn I've just looked in the App Store and there are a few in there that allow long times. One even goes longer than 30 seconds. Admittedly that one doesn't go into night mode so no idea what the results would be like but I've seen a few in there which definitely go up to 30 seconds. Might be some apps are only available in some territories as I know I had an app on my iPhone 12 Pro Max which when I updated to the iPhone 16 Pro Max last week it wouldn't download as said it was only in the US now 🙁 Oh and I did post on your video about the problems you've been having about the photos and the weird blue blotches so you may have seen it already but no problems here with this phone on any lens. Did you ask this in the FB group? All camera devs are restricted in the shutter speed access to the camera. They are restricted to 1-2 seconds. Even Longer does a reasonable job, but its restricted like all camera apps. Using this takes advantage of the full 30 secs (3x10seconds) shots with the camera app. Results are far superior.

Anyone used a shortcut app below? Repeat 600 times Take photo with back camera Show Camera Preview off Save to Recents Photos Wait 30 seconds End Repeat
To take a photo every 30 seconds for 5 hours using the Shortcuts app on iPhone, you’ll need to create an automation using a “Repeat” action and a “Take Photo” action and “Save Photo” action. Here’s how you can set it up: Steps: 1. Open the Shortcuts App on your iPhone. If you don’t see it, search for it in your App Library, the last page. 2. Create a New Shortcut: • Tap the ”+” button to create a new shortcut. • Search for and select the “Repeat” action. 3. Set Repeat Count: • Since you want to take a photo every 30 seconds for 5 hours, calculate the number of repetitions: • 5 hours = 300 minutes = 18,000 seconds. • Divide 18,000 by 30 seconds → 600 repetitions. • In the “Repeat” action, set the repeat count to 600. 4. Add the Take Photo Action: • Inside the repeat loop, search for “Take Photo” and add it. • Set it to take a photo using either the front or rear camera as needed. • Ensure the option “Show Camera Preview” is off to automate it fully without user interaction. 5. Add “Save Photo” to (chose location) example “Recents” or “Astro Album” 6. Add Wait Time: • After the “Take Photo” action, search for the “Wait” action. • Set it to 30 seconds. 7. End the Shortcut: • After the loop, the shortcut will end automatically once it completes all repetitions. 8. Move “End Repeat” to the end of the commend line. 9. Run the Shortcut: • Tap the “Play” button to start the automation. Your iPhone will take a photo every 30 seconds for 5 hours. 10. Share shortcut to your Home Screen. You can change icon and color to your liking. Hope this is clear enough. You can always ask ChatGPT to help you with steps. Oh. And you can adjust the timers for your needs by copying the shortcut in the shortcuts app, adjusting the timers and sharing the new one to the Home Screen with a new name.
You would think so, but no. No app can do this on the iPhone. There are some photo apps that have intervalometers, but not nearly as good quality as a 30sec camera pic.
Agreed. I've used an app called Skyflow for years that can do intervals for long exposures of the duration you specify and different modes of capture (motion blur, light trails, low light, etc). So maybe I'm missing something... and I'm definitely supportive of people creating clever solutions... but I'm not seeing how this is better than an app-based solution.
Apple doesnt give the devs access to shooting longer than 1-2 seconds, then the devs stack those smaller images to create longer ones. No app can take images as clear as the native app. So this uses the native app to capture many high quality images.
Im going to need to shoot a comparison video. Ive also used skyflow, its a great app. The results from this are far superior. There isnt an app solution for this because of the restrictions apple puts on devs around the camera.
@@ShayneMostyn That's a completely fair point and one that I hadn't recalled until you mentioned it - thanks for bringing that up! I definitely think that an app comparison would be interesting - at least with Skyflow if not some of the others. I liked the control I have over the different modes from the third party LE apps, as sometimes the native camera apps night mode makes some processing decisions I'd rather not have, but the advantage you're talking about is critical. I have only been using an iPhone 11 Pro Max for my photography until now, and just upgraded to the 16 Pro (luckily tested it and it doesn't have the unfortunate issue yours did), so I'm looking forward to doing more with Night mode and LE shots with ProRAW and 48 MP among other options. I tried AstroShader (thanks to your channel) on my 11 Pro Max and it crashes with anything more than about 30-50 exposures. Also looking forward to working with Star Stacker as well. Cheers for all the tips and advice on your channel.
iphones suck everyone just needs to come to grip with that fact... why not use this with a Samsung? oh probly cause it wouldn't change as much... lol but for real though... like this isnt the iphone camera this is a seperate piece of hardware... so buy a shitty phone plus this. just saying... if you wanted to capture this you would already have a nice camera not using a iphone, sorry.
I don’t think you’ve quite understood what this is actually for 😂 it has nothing to do with the pictures taken or image processing. The pictures would be the same regardless of whether you used this device or not. It just automatically takes a picture rather than you having to stand there and do it manually. You can dislike iPhones all you like but it makes literally no sense in this case.

5. Add “Save Photo” to (chose location) example “Recents” or “Astro Album”
6. Add Wait Time:
• After the “Take Photo” action, search for the “Wait” action.
• Set it to 30 seconds.
7. End the Shortcut:
• After the loop, the shortcut will end automatically once it completes all repetitions.
8. Move “End Repeat” to the end of the commend line.
9. Run the Shortcut:
• Tap the “Play” button to start the automation.

This is incredible, holy sh*t. Does this ship to Europe?
Yep - I checked shipping to UK (Zone 4 UK & Europe). It's $28 AUD so approx £40 including shipping or 48 EUR.
@@BarryTGash thanks, mate!
Enjoy it mate. I see someone has answered already.
I feel this could have been done with an app
You would think so, but no. No app can do this on the iPhone. There are some photo apps that have intervalometers, but not nearly as good quality as a 30sec camera pic.
Why can’t the same be done by a software solution rather than a hardware solution?
Don’t still have to go out into the middle of knowhere where there is no light pollution when using the gadget?
HAHA no, that hasnt changed. You still need a good dark sky
Bargain, purchased.
Cheers mate
50$ lmao
iphones suck everyone just needs to come to grip with that fact... why not use this with a Samsung? oh probly cause it wouldn't change as much... lol but for real though... like this isnt the iphone camera this is a seperate piece of hardware... so buy a shitty phone plus this. just saying... if you wanted to capture this you would already have a nice camera not using a iphone, sorry.
First time here right?
Cheers mate. Glad someone watched the video and understands it.
Very good 👍 😊
did not edit the photos before creating the video???
I didn't see any message about it
Thanks
Nope, just put them all in there. You could edit them all if you like, it will slow down the entire process.
@@ShayneMostyn thanks 👍
