Check out the documentary about Jerry Reed. He was also a jazz and Blues guitarist. They tried so hard to Pigeon-hole him into country that he demanded they let him play blues on country shows he would appear on. And he lovingly talked about Ray Charles being a huge inspiration. Jerry was the man.
I've always loved his guitar playing but the more I listen to him, his voice is equally right there. The guy has the blues and a real soulful sound, which just free flows. Like Stapleton in ways. This guy was a true pioneer and I hope more of you younger guitar players will dial in to his greatness and recognize his contributions to the instrument. Any genre, really. He was magic.
And he was insanely humble. On the Marty Robbins show he said something to the effect of “if I could sing like that I’d turn this into firewood” in reference to his guitar and Marty’s singing.
Yeah, that happened to me too 10-15 years ago, and ooohhh, what a sweet and nourishing late discovery (I’m a French baby-boomer playing guitar and singin as a passion and 2nd activity, and I cite Brother Ray as a crucial influence). I use to cover Hallelujah my way, not so far from Ray’s, and I was floored by the creativity of Jerry’s very original take on it, which I spent time to pick up (not enough to do that great intro lick at speed, though). Yes, “one of the best”, but not with the career and recognition his talent deserved. One of the victims of the intense formating and boxing ‘Mercans seem to direly need to feel safe with. You need to be strong-willed to impose your art in the form it must be, there!
Nope. Del Reeves. Hard to tell back then though…everyone looked about 20 years older than they were. A steady diet of cigarettes and dark liquor and whatever barbiturates were available was standard operating procedure back then. 😂
I know that the woman is probably dead by now, but who's the girl in the red at the beginning of the video? Cute lil thang lol. Shes like marisa tomei if she was from GA
You'll have to do some serious research, he used unusual tunings, I think. When Elvis, who could get the best, decided to cover Jerry's Guitar Man, no one could play the guitar part so he hired Jerry
Is there any song Jerry Reed covered that isn't better than the original? Edit - I stand corrected. Jerry's cover of early morning rain is absolutely terrible when compared to Gordon Lightfoot

Got any idea what it's called or where you can watch it?
He was one hell of a session guitarist though!
The name of the documentary would really help
What documentary? He's my cousin. I'd like to see it.
Could you please tell us what this documentary is called? 🙏
What an enjoyable performance 👍
This is so cool. What a master singer and picker!
Only Jerry could get away with playing so smoothly without wearing shoes :)
Good ole sock feet pickin. SON!

Thank heaven for Jerry Reed!
Some people are just born to be guitarists.... Whst a talented man he was. 🎶🎶
For sure. Not many people come around like him.
Jerry and his guitar, and here we go ! MV
He was the real deal in every way. We lost a great one there.
Brilliant, but also soul destroying in equal measure!!! Unbelievably talented man.......
I just love Jerry Reed!
What a groove!!!
If you haven't heard Mountain Dew that he plays after this with Del Reeve I suggest you google it. His intro is sooooo sick. Groovy as heck
So.. Guess I should just go back to playing egg. What a genius on the guitar!

❤️
Jerry Reed is the greatest musician to ever come out Georgia. PERIOD! Ray Charles who?
Maybe not the best video to diss Ray Charles on since he wrote the song
I'll argue till my death Jerry Reed is the best guitar player of all time
Jerry was so amazing! Who was the guy in the blue suit?
I’m pretty sure that is Chet Atkins. ❤️

“She’s a long knocker”
Cool cover of Ray Charles.
Jerry Reed is Chet 2.0

I'm pretty sure that it's Jamey Ryan: ua-cam.com/video/MJivf8d4OVg/v-deo.html
I believe that is Priscilla Mitchell, Jerry’s wife, and a singer as well. By his looks off the side stage I’d say it’s likely it’s true.
he is who Im finding.
i want to copy his guitar style.
and does anyone know the guitarist who like him playing finger style??
