  • This watercolor “Autumn Light, Kyoto” was painted on returning from a recent workshop in Japan. We found ourselves transported to old Japan while setting up to paint in the early morning at Shirakawa Gion. The trees were deep yellows and golds creating a glowing warm light. Many visitors were walking about in Kimonos they had rented for the day and this juxtaposition made the scene irresistible to us...
Thank you for your words of support and I appreciate your liking these and other videos I have mad.

A jewel . Love you application of free strokes and how you restricted your painting of the center of interest to keep in unity with the whole picture. A less experienced painter would have killed it with too much attention to detail. Knowing when to hold and knowing when to fold.Such as applies to life itself.

Thanks. That was awesome. Always fascinated at following a watercolor through the awkward adolescent stage before the details and anchors are put in! Sort of like watching a bw print emerge from the developer.

That was, as ever, illuminating Gary. Nice to see you doing videos again! An interesting point you made about imagination being an important tool- that's SUCH a difficult skill. Something I and many others lack unfortunately.
