  • Links below: In this episode, the final touches are put on the suspension before the interior gets taken out. We opted for the Toytec Lifts BOSS Performance kit, and for the rear axle we are using the Total Chaos Fabrication Upper/Lower Control arm kit including an adjustable panhard bar.
    The original housing was in pretty poor shape, so I sourced an e-locker housing from Arizona in excellent condition and gave it a fresh coat of paint before installing.
    Side note: After this video, I decided to kick out the coilover reservoirs to the front of the spindles instead of the rear to avoid rubbing and full lock on these 35s. You'll have to flip the top hat so the hose points towards the front.

    I wish there was more content like this, simple straight to the point and fun to watch

    Hey, nice video, how long did it take to swap the rear end? Have to do to mine as a complete unit. What I saw way, upper arms 2 bolts- lower arm 2 bolts, brake lines and ebrake, and Pat hard bolt, is it that simple?

      Thanks dude! Throw in the shock bolts and driveshaft and you're set. I think it took us 3ish hours taking our time and setting the new links correctly.

    Awesome vid with great content. Id lower the volume on the music during speaking. I could barely hear what you were saying towards the end

      Thanks for the feedback! The next one is dropping tomorrow and I'm making sure the audio is mixed correctly.

    @Outworld - Thanks for the video! I'm considering the same components. How are the Total Chaos parts holding up noise wise? I heard that the Heims start clicking and squeaking a few months down the road. Is this something that requires a lot of maintenance to keep the noise down?

      As long as you lube occasionally they're totally fine! The zerks make it a simple job.

    Don't know how active you are on this account but I'm wondering if swapping out the rear axle is fairly simple. I have to replace my rear axle within the next couple weeks and I can't find any tutorials or forum posts on how to do this. But lastly, if there are certain compatibilities for certain years in the 3rd gen. (ie: I have 1999 limited with an e locker and I found a rear axle with a locker on it from a 1997 limited - are they compatible?)

      Hey Isaac, happy to help. First things first, yes those axles are interchangeable as long as they're both stock with factory e-lockers to make sure both have 4.30 gearing.
      Swapping fully built rears is pretty dang easy. You're basically unbolting the wheels, shocks, driveshaft, panhard bar, upper and lower control arms, and any abs/brake components. Slide out the old axle, slide in the new and reverse the steps, bleed brakes and you're set. Floor jack, jack stands and a few wrenches are all you need. An extra pair of hands makes it even easier.

      @@Outworld Fantastic, finding the correct gearing information to the right trim, year, etc. seems to be the biggest cluster f--- on the forums, but glad to hear another person say 4.30 for my rig. Appreciate the help!

      @@isaac_baik from what I recall, virtually all e-locked 3rd gens were geared to 4.30 with a very few geared 4.56. I'd say there's a 99% chance it's 4.30. If you had the diff pulled you could count the teeth on the ring and pinion. The only other way I recall is mounting the axle, rotating the wheel and counting the number of driveshaft rotations for the wheel to spin exactly one full turn.

    Don't forget the wedding ring, for all the money you're spending, you might as well marry it too, lol

    Why the axle swap?

    • @Outworld
      @Outworld  5 років тому

      It was more of a housing swap because I kept most of the components. The original one was pretty rusted and I found a great deal on an e-locker housing in Tucson. Ultimately felt it was a better use of my time to refinish that one and be done than try and salvage the old one. What started it was a diff seal leak so I was going to have to pull the third anyways,.
