Halo Reach but EVERY Enemy is an Ultra Elite (On Legendary)

- Опубліковано 6 лют 2025
- I modded the Halo: Reach Campaign so every single enemy is an Ultra Elite with either a Focus Rifle, Concussion Rifle, or Energy Sword. This is the hardest challenge yet on my channel. Reach Ultra Elites are so irritatingly good at killing Spartans, I know why Reach fell now.

Hi Everyone! I'm back! I would say to treat this kind of as a Season 2 of the channel. I have an undisclosed number of videos mostly ready, and a few more ideas cooking as well. I want to get some stream ideas prepped for you all, but I've been sick the past week so I didn't get as much prepped as I wanted. So the Streams may still be a few weeks away, I'll update in community posts and schedule the streams a week before they go live, so if you just look at my channel every once in a while you should see when I have one ready to go.
Steam Workshop Link: steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3227887225
I'd also like to acknowledge that the older mods I posted on NexusMods are out of date and crash if you load them on the latest version of MCC. I would love to get those fixed but in the year and a half since I posted those videos I have lost the original files for the mods and would need to completely recreate them again. This wouldn't be difficult for the Halo 2 Jackal Snipers Mod, but for the Halo 3 and Halo CE mods I did need to do some fooling around to get them to work, and would take me much longer to recreate. I'd rather just work on new videos and stream ideas because I only have so much time to dedicate to this channel, but I do really want to get the Halo 2 Jackal Sniper mod up again because it's the hardest of the original three videos I made and I just want it to exist again. (If you really want to play the other ones you can download older versions of games from SteamDB, there are many tutorials for this, look them up if you're interested!)
Also, a HUGE thanks to everyone who throughout the past year has made any comment saying that you missed my videos, I always saw them, and they were a major reason for why I put in the work to get some more videos done for you all. I do read every comment and I really appreciate every comment I get, even if they're complaining about my use of Infinite Ammo, Level Skips, or the comments I'm expecting to get for what happens in this video :)
I’m just glad you’re back
Really glad your back, I love your stuff.
Nice vid, looking forward to your future stuff!
Also if anyone wants to play the old mods, if you look on the posts section on the Nexus page for the sniper jackals mod I put instructions on how to revert your version of MCC to a version where the mods should work
It's slightly inconvenient, but it's a fairly uneasy workaround until if/when they get updated
@@lizardnettle9693 Thanks for making that post! Hopefully the workaround for that one won't be neccesary soon. Also shoutout for doing the challenge yourself! I've been enjoying the updates you've been leaving in my comments :)
@@TipsyPhoenix np for the post, I struggled for a few days trying to figure out how to use steamDB and figured some others would be confused too.

Ultras are so fricken painfully on legendary, so having everyone being an Ultra sounds like every circle of hell combined
That's basically not far off from the thunderstorm skull. All elites are at minimum an ultra and sometimes you get a zealot with a trio of generals just to spite you. It was rough beating reach legendary wity thunderstorm.
Noob combo is the only counter
Only thing worse would be all Generals
@@benc77 Noob combo is kind of bad in Reach, better to spam the Plasma Pistol for stripping shields.
@@captainnyet9855 eh depends on situations
90% of Challenge runners quit before that one perfect attempt.
True
Yeah but 5 hours is a reasonable limit. I could see some challenges working in the future if an emulator is developed that lets you have multiple saves and at any point
Gamblers fallacy
If the Covenant could just pack in 10 Ultra Elites with focus and concussion rifles into every hallway in the galaxy even Chief's plot armor wouldn't be able to do anything.
Don’t worry, they can tank a spartan laser. Learned that on my legendary run at the same time that I realized hunters are easier than ultras, and a bit after learning that the space section sucks
I think I would have exploded instantly if I saw a Spartan Laser didn't kill one in one shot.
@@TipsyPhoenix there were two in there last level that were kicking my butt on legendary because I didn’t have a precision weapon (that wasn’t the Spartan laser) for headshots, and I’m bad at tracking. I just had to run past and let Emile kill them
They also suck up an entire plasma pistol overcharge before eating your ass
@@addison1024same spot with the field marshal whose shield recharges faster than the spartan laser charge time, so he can tank unlimited laser shots?
Honestly, there isn't a sinlge Elite on Reach that isn't easily dealt with so long as you just keep your trusty plasma pistol with you and save enough precision ammo; it's one of the easiest Halo campaigns to complete on Legendary (though I haven't fully played through any of the 343 ones, so idk how they stack up); even Ultra shields pop very quickly once you start blasting them with your pp.
This is the kind of thing only someone who never played reach on legendary would ever come up with, or a clinically insane individual
Those enemies aren't called "elite ultras" without a reason. Hell, they might be scarier in their game than hunters (depending on the version you compare them to)
Pride is the first sin. My gaming ego needed a check and this was a huge one
reach ultras are the scariest enemies in all of halo imo. hit hard, huge shields/hp pool, dodge everything. They seem expressly designed to knock overconfident players down a peg
nothing is scarier than the T A L L H U N T E R though
Hunters are scary if you don't know what you're doing, and they are dangerous to be sure. But their moves are all well telegraphed and easy to dodge. And while they do have a substantial health pool, they don't have regenerating shields.
These ultras are fast, smart, dodge everything, hit almost as hard as hunters with far more reliability. And worst of all, you can dump an entire magazine into them, but if the shield doesn't go down, you might as well have flushed the ammo down the drain instead.
@@SleepySoviet Yah, they are scary; they still drop quite quickly to plasma pistol + DMR, but especially when you're fighting multiple (and you aren't being babysat by noble team) they can quikly become too much; Elite AI is also pretty good in general.
"My forklift may be gone, but i can be my own forklift" Truly an inspirational quote.
That civilian elite was funny.
"Elite ultras in Reach are balanced fairly" has the same energy as "The library is meant to be grueling to create a mood of despair"
I knew this would be hard, but I was surprised to hear that this was your hardest challenge yet.
Then I realized, without Grunts and Jackals around, you have no way of getting a Plasma Pistol. Yeah, I understand now why this was impossible.
Kudos for trying though!
That's a great point that I don't think even TipsyPhoenix said directly - he does mention being stuck on human weaponry in a few places but man.
Even plasma pistols don't work against ultras, they either drain half their shields or they straight up dodge the charged shot (speaking from experience :D)
@jedi_.66 Even uncharged shots would tear through shields a lot faster than anything else he had access to.
The king is back to show us the meaning of challenge is.
I like how the spartans are able to run past all these ultras just fine, but then in cutscenes kat gets shot once and dies, and emile loses a 1v1 to a sword elite
Kat gets stabbed like 50 times and survives but dies in one shot in a cutscene
EMP blast from the glassing knocked out the energy shields
Concussion Rifle Ultras could take on the UNSC, the Flood, the Forerunners, and the Banished all at once.
halo 3 but every enemy is 343 guilty spark
Thanks… I hate it.
Actually I can think of something far worse. A soul that allows popcorn to pierce shields.

@@justinmochi7323every time I played FF limited I would sweat as hard as possible to not die once the entire match and the ultra drop pod even on heroic had a 40% chance of killing me. Those things were by far the most dangerous AI in Reach.
I took on the challenge and beat the Legendary campaign with the mod on. I think it was harder then LASO but it's definitely doable. I have a new found appreciation for the Focus rifle since it was the only reliable shield stripper you could get. It definitely makes you play differently though! 10/10
Congrats! I was definitely playing the impossibility up a bit in the script, I was just having so little fun I didn't want to keep struggling and had enough footage for a decent video. Just thinking about trying to beat New Alexandria with this mod made me quit once I hit that really tough difficulty spike.
Well done. So how did you get past that room he gave up on?
@@Jigsawn2 baited sword guys into the long hallway then the concussion rifle guys that wanted to chase. Focus rifle/DMRed the rest who stayed back. Not all of the elites were ultras either some were EVA so they had weak shields
Haven't watched, but from the title alone, you are clinically insane and must be stopped from doing further shenanigans.
Edit: now try it in LASO, I dare you 😂

Glad someone else finally agrees with me about Reach being harder to deal with than Halo 2. Halo 2 just takes skill and knowledge. Reach? Yea, skill doesn't matter, the AI are just as good as humans and the TTK on you is basically the same as H2. Having invincible allies doesn't mean jack because they BARELY do any damage and typically have crappy weapons, while your allies in H2 can actually have useful weapons and the enemies are easy to stagger.
This would probably be even more torturous for me because I always obsess with keeping marines alive. And that would seemingly be just about impossible 99% of the time here.
Well. Can’t wait to try it and find out. Welcome back man.
Glad to see you back!!! This challenge actually seems like hell, altho I am curious enough to think about attempting it
Do it! It sucks!
He came back with the milk!
Slap the bag!
Respect for giving it an honest try and being willing to admit defeat! You are correct that the quality of videos is affected by the enjoyment level of the creator so while I did enjoy watching your attempt with this challenge, I'm also glad you quit with your sanity at least somewhat intact. Here's to many more insanity testing challenges!
You're a masochist! Honestly, failing this challenge only raises the stakes for the next one because there is no guarantee of a happy ending.
It's crazy that you're declaring this as harder than rocket flood challenge CE.
Bro have you fought Reach elites on legendary? They are beasts
Man, this reminds me of first time I played Reach on legendary. The fact that you made it as far as you did is a miracle. I doubt I could have even beaten the first level.
Well you had a good run at it. I would've quit by the time I faced more than 4 at a time. Elite Ultras are paradoxically the toughest bastards ever in halo, because they have zero counterplay unlike the other challenge enemy runs you did. Respect for knowing your limits, we all challenge ourselves to have fun not get mad.
The Elites you're versing in this video is how I felt about Halo 3 enemies on legendary lol
When the world needed him most, he returned. Man, it genuinely sounded like you hated this one, like you could just tell from the way you spoke alone. Honestly, I respect you a ton more because you're willing to go 'nope, this is impossible, it's over, challenge failed' like the CE Warthog Run with all the Rocket Flood. It makes every challenge you do accomplish feel way more authentic and better for the viewers. Even this was great content, even if it was pure hell for you.
I'm glad I'm seeing this reaction more than "Screw you, you gotta finish it". Thanks a lot, this comment was really nice to read :)
Everyone who watches this can feel your pain. The haters have just internalized it.
I sure hate it when enemies are smart enough to not get shot
I started watching this channel last week, I’m so happy there’s another video!
15:49 you actually did a major despawn by taking that ledge. That takes away nearly every enemy in the upper floors.
I thought the ending was easier than I remembered, it would have sucked if I didn't because most of Noble Team was staying back at that point.
Reach was easily the hardest on Legendary vanilla. But then you do this? You madman!
Next to Halo 2, its rather easy lol
@A-G-F- I don't think so, halo 2 legendary was pretty fun
You know what? This was a real bad one. I'd say you've earned a break. Go on ahead and make your next challenge "Halo ______ but EVERY Enemy is a Friend Who Wants to Have a Nice Time (On Legendary)"
returned from the grave to give us another challenge run. thank you so much.
godspeed
i love how you leave for a decade just to come back with a masterpiece of impossibility
If you gave the ultras a plasma rifle/pistol, this challenge doesn't actually seem too hard. I'd actually want to try it.
It would be WAY easier, that's for sure
"At least it's not field marshals right.. wait you're doing what-"
You don’t know how happy I am to see you’re back
Elites in reach are the best in the entire series, they’re actually threatening
Can't wait to watch. So happy you're back!
7:35 You complain about the Halo Reach Elites having hard A.I but thats what makes them so interesting, memorable, and scary. Elites are SUPPOSED to be a challenge. They are supposed to be smart and intelligent. You said there was no "consistent strategy" to defeat them, and yeah, that's a good thing! If you were able to run through every enemy and deal with them all the same way then that would be really boring, and wouldnt power your neurons on how to deal with every encounter. That's what makes the Halo Reach campaign and firefight the best out of the series, among many other things.
I agree, the Halo Reach campaign has some of the best enemy AI period. Bungie was always amazing at that. It's just that a consequence is that fighting a dozen of them at once tests my patience in ways I haven't felt in forever. They're smarter than me god dammit!
Same energy as "the library is supposed to be grueling to create a mood of despair"
Love that there are still impossible challenges out there! Loved the video.
Something to ponder: Assassinations. The AI refuses to shoot their teammates. They are willing to melee each-other though, but you can get a free 3-4 second takedown allowing time for shields to recharge and using no ammunition. Since none of these elites are dual wielding or carrying a turret, they can be taken down without fail
The king has returned
TBH that big purple hangar room is THE hardest room in the game. I've done it LASO multiple times, but I'm never looking forward to it.
I shouldn't be the one saying this, but doing this game LASO always sounded insane to me. I'm impressed with anyone who has done it.
@@TipsyPhoenix Basically, the Ultra Elites are invulnerable to human weapons, and it takes like 4 plasma sticks to kill one. You have to entirely rely on backsmack, vehicles and noble team (two of which aren't present in that room). Fortunately the black eye skull allows you to survive the elite's melee for a little bit if you hit them when they hit you.
So, I actually attempted this myself, and I've been hard stuck on Nightfall. Winter Contingency flows fairly fine, nothing too exciting as I get my bearings and learn the Focus Rifle is probably the most important weapon in the challenge. Sword Base is where I lose about 2 hours just trying to get ally AI to behave with vehicles, shocking I know, but other than that it goes fairly fine. Nightfall started off with a 3 hour attempt that got bricked at the Covenant Pylon section because I simply didn't have the firepower to actually chew through that much HP, since I had fought everything to get there.
Then I spend another hour after a reset to get back there with about 28ish total Sniper bullets, only to crash for no reason.
Overall, I've found that the big thing that makes this challenge unfun is the sheer spam of Focus Rifles. Sword Elites are actually kinda fun to play around with, and Concussion Elites bring a really fun dance of "Don't use cover, at all" to the mix. It's all the Focus Rifles that make this challenge a nightmare.
Edit: I've made it past Nightfall and I just beat Long Night Of Solace. I'll make a video once I beat the entire campaign.
Hi, I'm getting pretty hardstuck on the same part of nightfall, I feel like the video really under sold how difficult it was, how did you manage to get past it in the end? Jun's really bad at clearing anything other than sword elites and he keeps getting knocked off the edge anyway cause I turned on cowbell and catch (I regret my decisions), I've already restarted to comeback with more ammo, I saved like all of my bullets and it just doesn't seem like enough.
@@sleepybird5221 I have a video on my channel that’s a continuous cut of every successful checkpoint, but the TLDR is to basically run past everything at the start of the level and preserve sniper ammo until you get to the penultimate area (the small spire Jun has to plant an explosive on), there’s where you’ll use most of your ammo. Kill every Focus Rifle Elite, then once Jun gets ganged up on, you can run past and do the Forklift clip.
@@cerebralcloud92 probably shoulda realised that using a focus rifle along side the sniper would have been a good idea, I just ran past everything and didnt pick one up 🙃
I found your channel weeks ago and I'm personally trying the all rocket flood challenge thank you for creating that. (I'm still in Attack on the control room, because I didn't wanted to skip half of the level by the way)
So you replaced every infantry unit in Reach with what is the most badass infantry unit the Covenant have. O_O
Meanwhile I struggle to complete the game ((well, actually just one of any of the levels)) deathless on NORMAL difficulty.😅 good job getting even that far.
The madman, he has returned in all his glory.
Glad you're back! I wish UA-cam actually told me this video exists
Liked and subbed. I can barely get through halo 2 on legendary normally without warning to take a bath with my toaster, so I tip my hat to you for making it past more than two levels in this challenge. Cheers brother
mabye try this again but you start off with infinite ammo and the trusty old noob combo (plasma pistol+ precision weapon). Its the only way to get past the final few levels on legendary with all of these fuckers. Don't feel bad, for those of us who know how shit these guys are, we already knew this would be the hardest one.
The forklift having a legitimate use makes me so happy. I've used it to beat Hunters once.
Ultras on Heroic don't always die from a single sword strike either. This challenge looked painful. I salute you.
LETS FUCKING GOOOOOOOO HE UPLOADED AGAIN YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Nice to see you back!
I remember finishing this game laso back in the day. Heck, I probably have more hours in the campain alone than I do in Skyrim. Those enemy packed areas are torture, ultra or not.
If you ever manage to not blow a nerve (video playing says in the background says NOPE lol) and get to mission 9, where you retrieve cortana, just know that it took my 2000+ hours of gameplay more than a MONTH to pass on laso, and I knew every tricks I could to ease it without glitching.
That big room where you were stuck in, looks completely impossible, the last part of the last mission will be too, as well as pretty much the whole of new Alexandria since the falcon is just gonna blow up in ten seconds. So yeah. That ain't gonna work. You could do the disco easter egg in New Alexandria to ease the pain XD
Also I knew about the shooting of the AA cannons without entering. The best spot to shoot is on the lights at the back. Had to for laso.
Finally, if you manage to find a plasma pistol, one way of another, it works very well with the dmr, as well as having some tracking.
I honestly think beating this game LASO is more impressive than any of the challenges I've done on my channel IMO. I was trying to find a plasma pistol the whole time but there really aren't any in the first 5 levels that aren't dropped by enemies I replaced :)
Also the Disco Easter Egg does work! I left it out of the video as a fun surprise for anyone who wanted to download the mod
Immediately watched when I got the notification. I wouldn't wish this torture on my worst enemy.
The idea of Halo 2 with Tartarus made me laugh out loud. Can't wait for that one.
Most interesting result of that was the scaling vehicle health making wraiths Invincible and ghosts 10 tank shells to kill

HE RETURNS
You're Alive! I was re watching your vids a few weeks back and was hoping you'd put out an update or a new video and here I am 3 weeks late lol. But I'm glad to see you're back.
Hell yeah! I just stumbled upon your Halo (original) video a few days ago and glad to see you're still trying these crazy challenges!
Ultra Elites aren't supposed to be a sniper class so I think you should take away the focus rifle spawns. In Reach, Ultras use plasma repeaters, needle rifles, concussion rifles, and energy swords.
It might make the challange a little easier to not get lazered from across the map.
Btw, never use a needle rifle against them. Not because it's a bad weapin. But their AI sees the needler and needle rife as an explosive weapon, so they'll evade it way more and use armor lock.
Ultras? Try Generals or Field Marshalls and you'll realize Ultras aren't that bad and you'd be begging for the Ultras if you went up against generals or Field Marshalls
After a year, your back! Awesome!
Sounds brutal beyond belief. Good video
You're back!! I'm so happy let's goooooo!

Halo Reach but every enemy is an elite, with the grunts and jackals being minors and majors, and all the other elites retaining their ranks might offer a more doable challenge.
Good to see you back my man!
Title: Halo Reach but EVERY Enemy is the one with multiple overshields who won't move away from the otherside of the map and when you sprint at them they walk backwards faster than you can sprint and shoot you down at the same time OR they glitch twitch toward you with no momentum to give a instakill kick in the face that you are somehow supposed to see during one single frame
You’re nuts! I could barely deal with standard elites on normal in this game. They feel crazy powerful here compared to pretty much any other Halo I’ve played.
Which is how they should be honestly
Agreed, in the base game they're a really good challenge
But you said in the video you hate the Reach elites. I’m confused lol.
Yeah, that definitely is confusing, lol. Here's a way to explain it. I hate Reach Elites in the context of this challenge. I like Reach Elites in the base campaign (On Heroic). I don't have fun with the PvE gameplay in general in Halo Reach as much as other Halo games. These three are all true to me and aren't mutually exclusive.
No worries! I think I got confused because I hate Reach Elites in general, for all the reasons you gave in the video. I love Halo but I’m really bad at them.
