I’m so amazed there was no major injury from this. I’m from Australia and follow the NRL (National Rugby League). Though similar to Rugby Union, it is a high intensity, high impact contest played by 13 players on each team over two 40 minute halves. The casualty ward has been pretty high this season with 11 injuries occurring in one round several weeks ago. I think you will find it to be a good source of content.

Finally started physical therapy school a month ago, right in the thick of anatomy and biomechanics: this really helps tie things together! You’re spot on.
Definitely disagree with completely disregarding fatigue here. There were reports that said his left calf was sore. I think if he landed on plantar flexion it would've definitely helped prevent that hyper extension on the knee. Also, the gastrocnemius helps knee flexion.

One thing i noticed is that although his upper body is really muscular, giannis has pretty slim legs(maybe cuz of genetics or just being 7 feet tall). Compare his legs to lebron who has tree trunks, and I think this might be a factor why giannis got injured here. Anyways prayers up for the Greek hope he gets back stronger at least this series 🙏
It was a "freak" injury. Anyone who has their leg pushed inward before landing would have same thing happen. I think what made this worse was Giannis was trying to avoid landing on the right leg with much weight because that's where the most traffic was. So he put more weight than usual on his left leg as a result, and that made the hyper-extension worse.
It became my habit to watch Dr. Brian's channel every time an injury occured in the nba 😁 great job on explaining a very detailed prognosis of the injury. 👍

Lopez had nothing to do with it----it was the opposing team's player's leg hitting his knee in that split second. If anything, Lopez pushing against the pile caused Giannis' upper body to fall back, possibly limiting the damage. Good news is that it sounds as if Giannis may be able to play in the championship series, so the injury must not have been too severe. Which is incredible, watching video footage of the injury happen, but also a huge relief.

If it swells, go to a doctor and get scans done. Youre knee is not like your ankle where you can roll it all the time and bruise it and hurt it and its fine, you can easily permanently injure your knee

One thing i noticed is that although his upper body is really muscular, giannis has pretty slim legs(maybe cuz of genetics or just being 7 feet tall). Compare his legs to lebron who has tree trunks, and I think this might be a factor why giannis got injured here. Anyways prayers up for the Greek hope he gets back stronger at least this series 🙏
It was a "freak" injury. Anyone who has their leg pushed inward before landing would have same thing happen. I think what made this worse was Giannis was trying to avoid landing on the right leg with much weight because that's where the most traffic was. So he put more weight than usual on his left leg as a result, and that made the hyper-extension worse.
This just a freak accident..it happens sometimes and it sucks

@@wave3x660 Collision in short right field, second basement clipped him which made him spin and land really badly..fracture in his ankle or lower leg, plus a dislocation. Lots of clips of it on here, looks pretty brutal..

Either way his leg would've got hit by the other leg, if anything Lopez delayed it by a second
Lopez had nothing to do with it----it was the opposing team's player's leg hitting his knee in that split second. If anything, Lopez pushing against the pile caused Giannis' upper body to fall back, possibly limiting the damage. Good news is that it sounds as if Giannis may be able to play in the championship series, so the injury must not have been too severe. Which is incredible, watching video footage of the injury happen, but also a huge relief.

Brian I actually did this same thing today. I felt pain instantly inside my knee but once I got up and started walking it wasn’t as painful as it was. Could there be something wrong?

You can usually walk around pretty easily after ligament damage
If I felt pain instantly I'd rest for a week even if I felt ok next day. Maybe you at least weakened some ligaments
If it swells, go to a doctor and get scans done. Youre knee is not like your ankle where you can roll it all the time and bruise it and hurt it and its fine, you can easily permanently injure your knee
