This is proper sailing with proper sailors.
That penguin riding that huge wave onto the rock was one of the coolest things I've ever seen any animal do. It was so graceful considering the circumstance. So good at reading the water.

Hi Mike, Thank you for your comment and I loved reading that you enjoyed the albatross footage! We have so much but we tried to keep it fairly short! However we will be editing short films on individual specific animals ie gentoo penguins/ king penguins/ wandering albatross etc for the Animal Lovers on here! They will come out over the next couple of months:)) Many thanks again, Sophie:)

The explanations and information about the places you are visiting are really interesting. I really like the relaxed pace at which you talk, and the spark between you two is lovely. You might be new to UA-cam, but your videos are just spot-on.
Hi John, Thank you so very much for your feedback. It is of great value to us. I’m glad to hear you think it has the right balance as we were a little worried about putting too much wildlife in. We haven’t filmed very much of ourselves talking into the camera as we focussed on landscapes and wildlife as well as sailing. But hopefully there was the right level of that too. What are your thoughts on the music? If you have any feedback on future films as they come out we would appreciate it again:) Many thanks again, Sophie :) 🌊

You two are doing precisely the sort of cruising that I would love to do if my age and health permitted. Sadly that is not the case but I can certainly enjoy your experiences vicariously through yt. I really enjoyed the albatross ballet and would love to see any more if you have it! I remember David Attenborough also filmed the beautiful ritual some years ago but I can't remember where now except that it was on one of the Southern Ocean islands. I'm getting bored with the vacuous and seemingly endless supply of accounts of bumming around in the Caribbean without any sign of a purpose other than self-indulgence! But you two are actually facilitating important scientific research and that's both worthwhile and fascinating at the same time. Well done and keep on doing your good work!
Hi David, I hope this reply reaches you (I’m not sure how to tag people in replies?). Thank you for your kind comment. Yes we do have a lot more of the albatross footage- we just didn’t want to overload it on this film. However! We are putting together short films on the specific animals we observed for the wildlife lovers :)) and the great thing about the albatross dancing was the incredible noise they made too! We have recordings of that :)) We hope to have those films out in the next couple of months. The film that is being edited at the moment is our voyage to Gough Island, where we took a team of scientists and conservationists as they embark on a year long programme to eradicated the house mice that have been decimating the albatross population (eating them alive). It was a really important journey- and incredibly we were granted permission to land there and see the albatross nesting! I can’t wait to share this video:)) let us know any feedback you may have once it’s out (in the next 2 weeks). Thank you again, Sophie 🙂 🌊
@@seasandsummitsYes, I received your most interesting message - thank you. You're doing exactly what I would love to do if I wasn't confined to a wheelchair! What a terrific way to continue from Part One! The sailing, scenery and wildlife footages were just incredible. I thought the calmness and tranquillity of Larsen Harbour was an amazing contrast to the breathtaking ocean passages, and yet Pelagic Australis seemed totally at home there. For me, the episode was all the more interesting because of the glimpses it offered of everyday life on board, above and below decks. Watching this (in the UK) has been utterly memorable. I really loved it and know I'll come back to it time and time again. A really professional job. Thanks so much!

Sophie and Chris, you have produced an outstanding video. Your enthusiasm is refreshing and great to watch. Luv your ship as well. Thank you for sharing. AL Vancouver, Canada.
Sophie, Cris, thank you for the glimpse at the clearance and beauty of the south. You are contributing another sight on the variety of seas. Reading your comment below I was thinking “No! Don’t keep it short!! I want to see more!” Although I know how much time editing films takes, please let us take part more in the daily life on board. Your sailing skills must be tremendous, letting us take part would not be considered bragging. Is this a Bestevaer you’re sailing? How could you afford such a boat at your age? How does the interior look (loved your excursion to the “fridge”). How much time do you spend on maintenance? How much condensation water does the temperature gap produce? So many questions...
Hello CK! Thank you for your very kind comment! We don’t own Pelagic Australis - that would be a dream if we did! We are employed as Skipper & Mate onboard. Skip Novak is the owner and our boss :)) She is a Tony Castro design and built in 2003 in Durban. Glad to hear you liked seeing the fridge! Initially we were not intending on making films and I only videoed to send footage back to my parents. But after my Dad edited the South Georgia film and we got such positive feedback we decided to produce some more from my slightly dodgy filming. With that in mind- most of my footage was of penguins and icebergs. Since the interest in the films we decided to document more on the sailing side of it too and hope that we can feature that more in future films:)) I hope that all makes sense! Any other feedback you can suggest we would gratefully appreciate it:) Many thanks again, Sophie 🙂🌊
Really enjoyed the pace, joy and wonder shown by you Sophie! Good to see the details of daily life on board, too. It reminds us how much skill and effort it takes to get a boat to and from wild places safely. Looking forward to your next video.
Hi Marc, I’m so glad to hear you enjoy the wildlife! We have so much footage of it that we had to keep it fairly short! Thanks for your comment- we really appreciate feedback:) Sophie 🌊
Hi Robert, Yes we often wonder the same. MOre so recently when we visited the restricted Gough Island in the depths of the South Atlantic as no one lives there apart from a small team of scientists! Film about this will be out in a few months time. Thank you again for your comment:)) Sophie

Hi James! Thank you for gaming the time to write and leave a comment:))
We are glad to hear the films are being enjoyed and if you have any suggestions for further content/ improvement we will gratefully receive them:))
Thank you,
Sophie 🌊
@@seasandsummits A walk through tour of the boat would be nice. 👍🏼
...Spectacular scenery ...
So good!
Huge amount of respect for you two! To prepare, sail and manage a science expedition safely in Antarctic waters is exceptional. And make amazing videos! Well done.
Hi Matt! Thank you for writing in with your encouraging comment!
It’s very kind and we do appreciate it.
Many thanks again,
Sophie :)

Outstanding footage guys. Looking forward to seeing your future adventures...Cheers
Hi Kana, Thank you so very much for watching and for your comment :)) We are heading offshore into the southern ocean on friday and we endeavour to film much more:)
Thank you again!
Sophie
Amazing video, thank you so much for posting. 👍👍👍

Luv your ship as well.

THX so much for your brilliant clips!!!
Thank you for watching! 🙂🙂
Skip Novak is the owner and our boss :))
She is a Tony Castro design and built in 2003 in Durban.
Any other feedback you can suggest we would gratefully appreciate it:)
Many thanks again,
Sophie 🙂🌊
Thanks for this perfect advanture ❤️🇹🇷
Thank you Tamer for watching and from so far away!
Sophie :)
Love these video.. real.!
Really enjoyed the pace, joy and wonder shown by you Sophie! Good to see the details of daily life on board, too. It reminds us how much skill and effort it takes to get a boat to and from wild places safely. Looking forward to your next video.
Hi Chris,
Thanks for your message :)) our next film should be out in about 3 weeks:))
Thank you again,
Sophie 🌊🙂
Mind blowing adventures and some of mother natures' most awesome wildlife, thank you so much for sharing!
Hi Marc,
I’m so glad to hear you enjoy the wildlife! We have so much footage of it that we had to keep it fairly short!
Thanks for your comment- we really appreciate feedback:)
Sophie 🌊
Amazing video! Keep up the good work and I look forward to seeing your next adventure.
AWESOME, what an amazing boat and crew thanks. Makes you wonder how awesome this planet was before we invaded !
Hi Robert, Yes we often wonder the same. MOre so recently when we visited the restricted Gough Island in the depths of the South Atlantic as no one lives there apart from a small team of scientists! Film about this will be out in a few months time. Thank you again for your comment:)) Sophie
hey..what a fantastic vid mates.. you guys really push the boundaries in any way imaginable,...thx for sharing this..and keep em vids coming ..cheers from Canada !
Such a wonderful experience seeing the albatross dance like that! If you ever come to the northern hemisphere I'll see if I can hitch a lift from Scotland.
Hi Douglas!
We would LOVE to sail to Scotland one day! I hope it happens soon! My dream is to see and photograph puffins on your rocky shores !
Thank you for your comment:))
Sophie 🌊
Ps which part of Scotland are you watching from? 🙂
Wow guys. Thank you for creating the channel and share your journey. I absolutely love it.
Thank you so very much! Our next film will be out next week! 🌊🙂
I love these videos. They are so well done. I have been to Stanley and found it so beautiful-the other islands seem magical. You capture them so well & are a lovely pair.
Hi Stephanie,
Thank you for your message. When did you visit Stanley? Was that on holiday? It isn’t often you hear someone say they have visited that part of the world!
We really appreciate your comment and feedback:)
Thank you,
Sophie 🙂🌊
Love watching your videos and following your adventures.
Absolutely incredible footage of life, the Albatross dance was so beautiful and educational. Thank you so much for sharing your videos.
I clicked "like" as soon as I saw Sophie's big smile... PS: Great background music... Matching the epic landscapes and seascapes.
Hello :)) thank you very much for commenting and your feedback! I’m very glad to hear you like the music as we really wanted it to be a part of the journey and not just a noise. 🙂
Thank you again,
Sophie ☺️🌊
@@seasandsummits wow I was not expecting any reply. You both are true pioneers and you both make me think of "Jacques Cousteau". If you are 'too young' to have known him look them up... My home location is 36.8570° S, 174.7860° E It's a B&B if ever you are in Auckland NZ call in.
@@blommaertbart3224 hi Bart! Thank you for your second reply! Yes Custeou is a name we are familiar with 🙂😊. Oh my, it’s Chris’s dream to go to NZ !!! He talks about it all the time and shows me photos from the internet! You live in such a beautiful part of the world:)
Thank you for watching our films from so far away 🙂
Sophie 🌊
Fabulous videos. Not sure I’d enjoy the cold sailing, but love seeing the awesome (in the old fashioned definition) scenery! Look forward to seeing more of your adventures.
Stunning ⛵️❤️
The bread maker would have to be the most popular person onboard :)
Hahha! I would like to think that!
But it turns out Chris’s curries are more popular with the majority 😄
aww how much I looooved this video❤️ Beautiful wildlife, amazing journey! Huge thanks for showing us such hidden parts of the world.
Thank you! We’re very glad to read you enjoyed it so much and love the wildlife too ☺️ we have our next film out next week, sailing to Gough Island and here we met some Atlantic Yellow Nosed albatross chicks ! 🙂
Wonderful Expedition ,Thanks
Thank you for writing to say that :)) it’s very nice to hear,
Sophie:) 🌊
Thank you for sharing.
Epic and unique channel. Thanks guys 👍
Hi Christopher,
Thank you for writing to us with your comment! And for watching 😊
Sophie 🌊🙂
Loved your video! Would love to know more about the boat and how you got to be able to live this wonderful if not a little bit chilly life!
Hello Stephen! Thank you for your comment. There is actually a film about PA on our YT page where Skip Novak himself gives a tour- it’s very good & worth a watch.
We are employed by Skip as Skipper & Mate. Pelagic is not our boat but we have been working for Skip for about 20 months.
Prior to this we were both working as Skippers for Clipper & other freelance gigs. I hope that answers some of your questions!
Thank you again, we really do appreciate feedback, comments & suggestions :)
Sophie 🌊🙂
@@seasandsummits thank you for taking the time to reply! I found Skips boat tour! Simply amazing! Really looking forward to seeing your next sailing video!!!
Hi Stephen, Ah glad to see you found Skips tour of PA! We are slipping lines in two days time with Skip back onboard as we head deep into the Southern Ocean for 3-4 weeks. We hope to capture a lot of it on film for something to edit later on:) We are super pleased to hear the films are being enjoyed. Thank you for your feedback and reply!
Sophie :))
spectacular
So excellent! No only were you videoing a special place, but you editing, production, and storytelling skills are greatly improved. Keep the videos coming!
Hi Ben! Thank you for your feedback:))
Sophie 🙂
Having been to the Falkland Island on two occasions (military) and lived there for 4 months each time, it was very interesting watching your adventures further south in the Sandwich Islands and South Georgia, loved your videos. Good luck in your next adventures.
Wonderful story and good camera work and editing.
Great story telling, made me shiver some! LOL
Sophie and Chris, I just watched both episodes of your magnificent voyage to the South Sandwich Islands. This is great stuff!! Congratulations on your accomplishments. In your videos, it all looks pretty easy, but for sure this has been a very demanding voyage that required a great deal of preparation and experience. Also, you have such an endearing way of sharing your experiences ... it makes all the difference. I wish you all the best and hope to see more from you in the future.
Best regards from Brasil ... ;-)
Hello Markus all the way in Brazil!
Thank you for your kind comment :)
We have our next film out next week (it’s been a bit delayed due to our work schedule). It’s about sailing to Gough Island in the middle of the South Atlantic.
I hope you enjoy it also:)
Thank you again for your kind words,
Sophie 🌊🙂
Beautiful, as always. Really liked the bagpipe music (never thought I'd ever say that, ha ha just kidding, sort of).
Hello Delavan!
Thank you! That made me laugh about the bagpipes! You are the first to mention them- I’m glad to hear you like it as so far the only feedback we’ve had about the bagpipes music was from my parents and they didn’t like it so much! (Which surprised me with my mums Scottish heritage! 😄). That scene in Larsen Harbour with the music is Chris’s favourite:))
Thank you again!
Sophie 🌊
another wonderful video ! thanks for sharing
Hello again:)
Thank you for your comment, it is appreciated :)
Sophie 🌊
Wuaoooo!!!!
Thank you Nel!!
😃🌊
Please keep doing these videos. Love what you've done so far, it's a bit different than other sailing channels. Also you're a very charming couple :)
Thank you for your comment :))
Our next film is out next week- it’s about sailing the remote Gough Island. I hope you get an opportunity to watch it 🙂
Sophie☺️
“Sitting in this protected anchorage we can finally relax” you say as we now see you wearing a bulletproof vest 🤣 great video. I wish you guys the best
So good you are sharing..really enjoyed this vid. Thanks
Hi Frances,
Thank you for watching and for leaving a messag for us. We are super pleased to hear nice feedback!
Sophie :))
Fabulous what a dream part of the world. Is PA steel like my narrowboat. Thank you so much for your kind comments last time. Yes life is pretty idyllic on the canals. We can almost get away from it all but not quite like you guys.
HI Chris, Thanks for your comment:)) PA is alluminium! I would love for Chris to one day explore some of the UK canals- to experience a tranquil way of being on the water:)) You must feel fortuate to be on the water there during the lockdown period.
Thank you again, Sophie:)
5:45 "Are you really glad you said 'yes'?" Understatement of the century. How fast would I say "yes" if asked the question?...that short a time measurement doesn't exist. How does one make that happen? On the video content, the scenes from South Georgia were beyond breath-taking.
Super nice video, thumps up!
Thank you very much! We greatly appreciate thumbs up!
