I'm 45 yrs old, I've loved Depeche Mode since I was 15!! Its been a pleasure to watch your reaction to hearing them for the first time :) Not everyone 'gets' their music. Martin Gore is for me, a genius, I have certain songs of theirs I have listened to hundreds of times and I still get shivers! His songs are often about very dark themes, even the stuff from the early eighties. I have always thought that it takes a certain type of sensitive soul to truly understand and appreciate their music. If you haven't already please listen to 'Home' it never fails to give me goosebumps :)
I'm 54 now and still love DM from ice machine to spirit they are unique. Have saw them live many times Glasgow tho New York .. What a trip these guys have taken me on.😍
The best songs are usually easier to interpret in different ways and still make sense in my opinion. That way multiple meanings can be drawn from the song and it still works.
I was fifteen when I discovered DM. By the time this album came out, we didn’t think they could top Black Celebration or Music for the Masses. But then we heard this, and it was a whole other level of greatness. Every track on this album is beautiful and almost perfect. This song and Halo both give me the chills, in the best way possible.
Song is not about death. It is about someone whose life is very difficult and that when the noise of the day is over, things finally can become almost normal. They have too much stress in their daily lives and in the dark they are trying to find peace.
@@Lucullus27 Yup. Consensus among DM community is that this one is fundamentally about getting high and tripping/seeing visions. Though Martin does write about death a lot. Waiting to get through the day for high at the end.
This song makes me feel very sentimental and nostalgic. That specific part of the one you're talking about, it's amazing how real it feels, how "touching" the song is. I suppose it is someone who does not want to know more about this world, who seeks refuge in the night and with himself. Very good video friend!
For me the song is about that time of day when you can come home and start to relax, put away your defences. How the world can be to loud and stark and you can protect your senses by dulling them, covering your ears and see things in a more rose-tinted way, or whatever you need to do to make life more bearable.
I was at the 101 concert too. I hate to be a party pooper but this song was on Violater, which was released in 1990. I think you may be mixing it up with Dodgers Stadium. It was a great performance.
I thought the lyrics were simply about how the world is a dark and painful place, and when it comes to night time you can just zone out and forget about all of the suffering of the daytime. I liked the irony and figurative language; that the literal darkness and tranquility of the night hides the darkness and sufferings of the day. Seemed to just be the thoughts of someone who is in a dark mental state. But, you seemed to interpret them more closely than I did. Good reaction :)
This was one of my first depeche mode songs that i heard .. i was standing in front of the subtle rain in the middle of the night i downloaded randomly and put it in to my mp3 player it was a magic moment pure magic love depeche mode
Appreciate the reaction to this track. My parents played this all the time when I was a toddler and it always soothed/haunted me simultaneously. Still love the song with all my heart and so do my parents!
The lyrics arnt about death, they're about getting high... Like when u do drugs and you're overwhelmed/tripped out and night time relieves that and brings tranquility and makes it better. sometimes when you're high if you squint your eyes everything looks and feels awesome that's what the lyrics mean by half-closed eyes making things look even better
Love watching your reaction to the lyrics and atmosphere of this song! Depeche Mode can take you places! Best Band in the world! Check out some of their instrumentals like Pimpf or Memphisto!
This is actually the story of Pink Floyd's The Wall in a nuthshell: closing off one's self to everything that might be perceived as disturbing. Building a wall behind which to hide, here in the form of darkness and half-closed eyes (denial), to make life easier to bear...
As a former drug consumer and drugaddic I can warrant u this song is about drug addiction, but not to any drug that comes to mind, but to heroine. The music & the the lyrics are SO evident, and even as someone knows he's talking get about drugs, it's hard to believe he's referring to cocaïne or Crack or any other drug you want to think of. For me is obvious This is about the before & after during the time you're craving the next dose, for the right time to go out in order to get your stuff and for sure fixing it in your veins so one can reach this "peace-of- mind" state that no other substance or experience can lead you to. And as Thom Yorke once said in a concert: hey people, don't mix your drugs!!!, regards from Crackass, Venezuela...
This song was one of the first few that I heard from the band and then proceeded to fall in love with its music. This track in particular is so great, it has this dark and ominous feel but yet seems so fragile and almost intimate in a way. Sensual. The atmosphere of the entire song is magnetic, especially when listening through headphones.
Great reaction! Although this is my least favorite song from Violator. It is just too depressing! Would love to see You react to Clean from the same album. It is kind of monumental!
I can't disagree with anyone's interpretation because it is up to interpretation and it is about drugs, death and the night where we find the peace at the end of the day. I've been listening to this song for a couple decades and think I can add a bit, though. I always got a sense of covering up your shame, especially in a relationship. He did suffer from heroin addiction and struggled in his marriage during this period. When you're in a dysfunctional relationship there are very odd dynamics that occur. One is that it is obvious that handling normal business as a junkie is near impossible and made apparent as the daylight that the decisions being made are destructive. But, at night, when the world goes to sleep and the only thing after the high is sleep the relationships gets lighter and the cravings take over. The members of the relationship do their best to slip into the delusion to feel some sort of ease and release. The night time makes it easier to slip into that mindset, if you can conquer the shame.
Hi.i can see the impact on you.chill down the spine are well uncontrable.its very difficult to quantify I at all.maybe visceral.anyway I'm glad you liked it.
Can you you do a reaction to "somebody" by Depeche Mode? No one EVER does one i suggest, but since this is a Depeche Mode song and you seen to like Depeche mode I thought I'd ask. Much better With the audio (overall) but same issue. However I do know this is older and we all learn and good equipment is expensive. Keep up the work, you're not bad
Depeche Mode was never that big in the U.S. except for a hand full of music videos in the early 80s and I could never understand that because I thought their music was incredible.
i dont even know are there any skippable songs by Depeche Mode! i am simply worship every album by them maybe except the second one(A Broken Frame), but actually without this album there will be no the rest masterpieces such as Music for The Masses, Black Celebration, Violator(this song you reacted to from this album) legendary album and Songs of Faith and Devotion is all-time favorite among fans. Reaction suggestion is Halo from Violator
I literally empathise with the idea of the world being a more palatable place when the lights go down...especially in 3rd world shitholes where I have to spend inordinate amounts of time!!!

What a trip these guys have taken me on.😍
I am 51 now, and i just love DM and agree with your words completely .
The harmony between Dave and Martin is exceptional in this one! Simply stunning!
The entire album is a masterpiece
No other reactor has done this song. Blows my mind because it's so beautiful.
That's the thing about Martin's writing. He leaves it open for us to interpret for ourselves. 🖤
The best songs are usually easier to interpret in different ways and still make sense in my opinion. That way multiple meanings can be drawn from the song and it still works.
The brilliant musicality of Alan Wilder, lyrical mastery of of Martin Gore and that voice of Dave Gahan is something otherworldly
And Andrew ????
Some people tend to bad mouth Fletch, but we love him too.
@@martingore9037 Fletch is the glue that holds them all together. :)
Words AND music by Martin L Gore
Together they stood ... divided they fell.
They've never really recatpured the magic after Wilder went his own way, neither did Wilder ...

You've chosen of their most beautiful songs, musically! DM forever!
I’m 49 and I’ve been a fan since I was 14. It’s cool to see people doing reactions to DM finally. Watch some of their live footage it’s fabulous.
Been listening to DM for nearly 37 years and I love them as much today as I did the first time I heard them.

I always thought it was about being high of drugs to forget and to flee from reality. And being very near to death and eternal peace.
@@Lucullus27 Yup. Consensus among DM community is that this one is fundamentally about getting high and tripping/seeing visions. Though Martin does write about death a lot. Waiting to get through the day for high at the end.
Martin Gore is such an amazing lyricist. I love him so much.
and then after this track, Enjoy the Silence starts :)
This is their best track for me. Beautiful creation.
Thank you for another Depeche mode reaction!
If you liked this song you would love Goodnight lovers and Home
@@simsterka not even closely as beautiful sounding and produced
Brilliant song from Depeche mode and looking forward to more reactions to dm.....

That doesnt mean its something dark, maybe you should try to meditate and you see there is so much more.
Great reaction, amazing song
The perfect song to Mr. Fletch. Your spirit is with us!!!
love this song, masterpiece! Thank you
First time hearing for me as well.👍
Beautiful song, the lads in immaculate form, thanks for this keep safe

I was at the DM 101 concert at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, CA. When this song began.....
a hush came over the crowd. 100,000 people in pure silence.
Was there as well this song was beautiful to hear, I believe it was about 8:30 when it played, the setting and music was perfect.

Violator! Best Album ever!

Such an awesome song and my favorite on the Violator Album

At 1:57 seconds I already had the EXACT same reaction as you. Great feel and lyrics.
Thank you for this DM reaction! As both a Pink Floyd and a DM fan myself, I knew you would enjoy that.
I must say, this song really shines if you listen to it with good earphones as the electronic sounds bounce right and left in stereo.
I love the bass in this song.

Your emotions in your face during the song sir...Awesome
Amazing love Depeche mode.
Violator is on of the best albums ever. Every song is killer. Not much they coulda done to make the album better.
The better was Music for the Masses. :p

Like your reaction to this. I think when the wee keyboard part came in you really liked it.
I had the same reaction when I first heard the song. Shivers!!

you can't see the destruction we've done here at night...just look up to the sky, squint your eyes and make angels
DM ♥️
Waiting For The Night To Fall is Depeche Mode doing their best Pink Floyd impression
Yeh man it's a brilliant song I love this band
Now we know where rappers got that pitchy voice from at the end. For example Kanye "over night celebiriy"
i applies to me. I love the night being alone when it is calm. I hate the day when i have to be around others.

If you really want to be intrigued, listen to HOME by Depeche Mode. So many ways to interpret the song.
There are fout albums which are mind blowing. Violator-dm. Achtung baby-u2. Kick-inxs. Disintegration-the cure.
you should react on live version of these
I’m sure someone pointed it out, but you should have used headphones to get the full experience. If you haven’t already, try it!
I've always thought this song was about being high on heroin. Violator and Alice and Chains' Dirt album have the same underlying theme.
If you want people to listen to the depeche mode you give them, "violator".

React to the Exciter album version of Freelove.
Can I recommend a Norwegian lady called Susanne Sundfor? She's amazing, I suggest you try her song White Foxes.
