After "Halo" comes "Waiting for the Night", like a break in the clouds after a storm. It also serves as a prelude to the next song, entitled "Enjoy the Silence" You experience the peace that this song provides & then you just want to enjoy the silence. Absolutely genius if you ask me.
This song is beautiful. All of the layers where the pitch moves as a counter melody against the main melody is Alan Wilder. After listening for decades, I can hear the classical inspiration in the music. The entire album is a moment of perfection. I'm not surprised you think you've heard the opening. It has likely inspired composers since it was released.
I saw DM on the Violator tour in 1990 in Los Angeles at Dodger stadium. I proposed my wife to be at that concert. It was epic. We are still married 34 years later and still big DM fans.
So gorgeous. To me, the song is both dark and yet peaceful. They were so ahead of their time by using different instruments, voice effects, and technology. Brilliant.
Its so heartwarming when all generations being introduced to Depeche mode in general and some songs in specific can cause that clear emotion of joy. The love for DM is eternal, way beyond our lifetime.
And angels appear to descend ...and they all look like Alan and Martin ...two geniuses ...this is just pure beauty and Id like to suggest you listen to it again when you react to the next song
Totally accurate observations! For me, closing my eyes and blasting this or listening on headphones is like therapy. Dave and Martin together at their best. 💕
I think at this point your beginning to see why this is the fan Favorite album, well and their best commercially too. After you are done you need to listen to the album from beginning to end , all the little interludes between songs are a must for the vibe.
Thank you Seph😌 You just remind me how it was those time, 33 years ago with age of 18, how it was to hear this masterpiece for the first time😊 Thanks & enjoy the silence😎
They played this song during the Sounds of the Universe as a bare version that they released as a bonus song on the deluxe version Playing the Angel album. Both Martin and Dave sang together during the tour at the end of the concert when they played this song, side by side. However you are about to hear music perfection on the next song, all I will say is Enjoy the Silence.
Martin starts using his vibrato during Violator and he get better and better at allowing his voice to trail off!! Alan & Flood do the mixing here and then Dave is just so tranquil and melodic AND that counter melody ... so SO beautiful!! One of my absolute favorite DM songs.
Imaging this...dawn of evening, olympia stadium munich, thousands of people in your back and Dave&Martin performing this in front of you...one of my precious memories (luckly filmed it, so i can enjoy it again and again😊)
This one is deliciously delicate, hypnotic, and dark. You are right about the throat singing. A looped chant-like sample used starting from the bridge section of "Waiting For The Night" is derived from a Tuvan throat singing recording performed by Dmitry Damba-Darzhaa, originally released on Melodii Tuvi - Throat Songs And Folk Tunes From Tuva, a 1969 collection of Tuvan music published in the Soviet Union.
This is one of their songs where you really should pay attention to the lyrics, especially in the last verse where they change the time perspective from present to past tense. IMO it really puts the entire song in a whole new perspective and gives it another level. So brilliant!
Now "Enjoy the Silence" their biggest Hit. preferably combined with their best TV appearance ever at Peter's Popshow. I will never forget the performance. For me "Enjoy the Silence" is the closing song of the great 80's.
Beautiful song. I first got into a bare version from Live in Barcelona and then the original - thanks to One Night In Paris. But I think true appreciation came really recently - just a couple weeks ago - even though it’s been almost 12 since this song has forever settled in my phone.
it`s a gem and it`s tranquil, but also with a threatening tinge. with gore, there`s always a goul (did i spell that right?) lurking behind a corner :).
Some songs like home is him singing alone you need to check out I feel loved and the route 66 and behind the wheel mix and the live version of enjoy the silence live in Berlin has got so many reviews best performance live I have seen and I've been to 5 of there concerts
Gorgeous, dreamy, otherworldly... BTW the next song is Enjoy the Silence. There's no way you've never heard this, or you've been under a rock. It's like saying you've never heard Yesterday by The Beatles! This is a big one! If this doesn't go in your S catagory, there's something wrong. :-)
lol I wouldn't doubt that the sound has likely been sampled at some point. Its a classic album. Also, I love how you are going through their entire discography Seph. I keep meaning to get into your Elvis reactions as well 👍
This song always gives me thrills… and the feeling between calm, tranquility versus darkness and sadness… I don’t really know what was the thoughts of Martin Gore with the lyrics but i thought to something about… suicide as if it was too hard to live and find tranquility afterlife… « I know that it will save as all » and after « I knew that it would save us all » Does he speaks about a kind of sacrifice ? Beautiful and sad… I have a doubt too with the lyrics « there is a sound in the calm… someone is coming to harm… » hesitate between suicide and… does he speaks about an execution in the dark of a night ? Don’t have a clue about what exactly save them all and from what ? Always the complexity with Martin Gore lyrics… What do you think about it ?
I call it the psycho song. It starts off so beautiful and sweet, and calm....then it gets DARK. Someone is coming to harm, I press my hand to my ears...
But this song that voice you here in the background doing funny things with the voice n who does the echoing is Martain Gore who writes a majority of there songs n plays like 5 or 6 different instruments
I generally like DM's quieter and darker songs. But this one, "waiting for the knight" has never caught my interest. Melodically, there is very little going on, and it is tough and sleepy without any melodic finesse and completely without nerve. However, appreciate the dark (Alan Wilder)sound that the song is packaged in. It's not bad, but a pretty mediocre Depeche song, in my opinion. There is another dark slightly slower song at the end of Violator though, "clean". It caught my attention already after the first listen in 1990. Powerful and epic.
Depeche mode are literally a. Phenomenal band
The magic of Gore and Gahan together. Beautiful song.
And Wilder
I don't think it would be Depeche Mode without them both!
@@SephPlays yeah, but they harmonize together a lot on this one & I love it! There are several songs on the new album that they do this as well!
Strongly encourage you to catch them on tour if they swing anywhere near you. You will NOT regret it. One of my happiest places is a DM concert.
Depeche Mode played this song during their Exciter Tour 2001. On the screen, meanwhile, there were raindrops and rain. It was awesome.
DM just dropped the new single My Cosmos IS Mine ❤

Very much so agree 💯

I am glad to know this song has been included in the new tour. And they still sound incredible live. Fingers crossed they come to my country 😢
Love this song! And now dont wait too long for next one! It is coming!
I love to hear this one Just before going to sleep. Love this relaxing tune .

It is just an eternal harmony. The most beautiful melody I know
Beautiful yet haunting track.
Damn, I ❤Violator.
I adore this song. So pretty. Pure magic for the ears
It’s a magical beautiful song that delivers peace , calm and tranquility.
Pure perfection.
The imagery they used for this song in concert was amazing.
All that you feel is tranquility.... Beautifull song. I recommend you a live version 🙂
It is what it is : one of the best albums ever created "Violator"🌹...greets from germany.
Thank you ! for loving to play Depeche Mode so often! We really appreciate your choice of Music !!
Awesome music!!! It has a lot of layers!!!
Listening to this is like a warm hug or blanket on a cold day
My favourite DM song. I told to my family that, once when my time comes, I want to be escorted with this song...

Waiting for the night and One caress are my favorite DM songs.
Masterpiece
my personal favorite, alongside with the Things you Said and Judas from Songs of Faith and Devotion.

LOVE this song (whole album, really). Zen out, relaxing- perfect description of the feelings this song evokes. Nice Clockwork Orange outfit, BTW!
The beating heart of the album
it was popular at that time to write an experimental music for relaxation (e.g., Enigma and its debut album is the best example)
You nailed it with the lighter. I went to the Wash DC leg of Violator and sure enough, we all had our lighters out for this song. 🔥
Must be Amazing to be there!!
Masterpiece!!!

My favorite of the album and in my top 3 ever❤
I wake up with this in the morning
Then you start the day right 😊
6:17 to after 6:34 is my favorite. I love the transition of the song from the dreamy sounds to the almost rhythmic "talking."
it`s a gem and it`s tranquil, but also with a threatening tinge. with gore, there`s always a goul (did i spell that right?) lurking behind a corner :).
Wait for BLUE DRESS another GREAT SONG !
Nice lyrics from Martin... but exceptional songs with Alan's music.
Next one must be a banger or I'm rioting, but yeah this song is so relaxing at night
S Rank. Nothing more. Double banger

Again, this song flows right into the next one on the album. Once you're done with each song, go back and listen to it straight through.
I have done this about 5 times from start to end since i done these videos. and i have to say.... ITs the way its meant to be listened too haha

Its not that often i find someone that likes both DM and Elvis Presley haha big fan or?
@@SephPlays casual listener I guess. Suspicious Minds is my all-time favorite.
Dark fairy tale time.

What do you think about it ?
The relief of sleep I suppose
Freakin complex lyrics! 😅
So I guess this song 🎵 can be (if I can only say it 🤔) ASMR material?... okay 👍.
You must see it

I think Jarre has same kind of sounds somewhere like in opening of this.
Im kinda curious... Who is this Jarre?
@@SephPlays Jean-Michel Jarre an electronic music pioneer.
@@SephPlays check out his classics, Oxygene and Magnetic Fields
Like this, try Faded Flowers by Shriekback.
I heard somewhere once that this song was from the perspective of Christ during the crucifixion and his experiences. .
RIP Chudzio 😢😭
Still Masterpiece, Triplebanger😂
Just speak a bit quieter and slower and you could do your own Depeche Mode visualisation/ relaxation cd!
🤣👏
The beginning is a little similar to blasphemous rumors
Cover me is one of their newer songs that I truly love and I realized how much it sounds like the end of wftn...
Ohh yeah.. Kinda

Some people say i look like Dim from it 😂
@@SephPlays Viddy well, little brother, viddy well.
Too many pauses. You broke the magic of he song. You haven't actually listened to it.
Sorry. UA-cam copyright restrictions stop me from playing the entire song all the way through without a pause 😭
