Fantastic tone, Jonathan. The Cambridge 50 is very versatile and natural sounding, and your precise playing gives us clear examples of its capabilities. I bought one last week and still discovering all it can do.
Please note that @ 4:03 it should be BOUTIQUE CL @ 5:50 it should be VOX AC30TB @ 6:25 it should be BRIT 1959 @ 8:22 it should be SL-OD Terribly sorry about that!
Jonathan, you most definitely have soul, and your music reflects that! I’m getting the Vox Cambridge 50 in the next day or so, and your review and playing helped me to make up my mind. Thanks!
I just got mine. I love the old Brit amps. It sounds awesome all around. I can’t wait to do some small gigs with it. I’m a songwriter first so being able to completely change my sound at the turn of a dial is amazing. These are not “fake” sounding and it is loud!
Love your review, very calming with good insights on the strengths and limitations. I do wish Vox would take the guts of this and make something like the Fender Tonemaster for AC30 and AC15. I know they have been playing with amp sim quietly for almost 20 years now, but the AC30 is like an 80lbs beast and will get damaged moving it, it will damage your car after a gig loading in... Good AC tone and Top Boost tone would be so nice in a cab that is more like 50lbs.
Hi Jonathan! The video is very upscale as always! I really like your musical performance on the guitar! The sound is great! I am a fan of Vox. And I myself am a user of the combo amplifier of this manufacturer, but not Cambridge 50, but Vox VT40X. Great amplifiers! For rehearsals at home, a very good option, and high-quality and on the budget is not burdensome.🎶👏👏👏👍 !!! 🎸👍👍👍 !!! 🙏🤝👋✌️
This is the Swiss Army Knife of amps. It doesn't do anything great, but does a lot of things pretty well. I absolutely love it's compact size and super light weight. I've had other similarly priced amps that do one or two sounds better, but nothing that covers the complete gamut without any real clunkers. To me this is a pretty versatile little puppy. Good for home studio recording, and loud enough for a small gig. Thanks for the great review.
@@LedbetterBand No experience with the AV60 so not sure. I have played on a VT40X and liked it very much. I think it might sound a little better than the Cambridge but is more difficult use. I'm a big fan of simplicity.
Hi Jonathan, thanks for review. On my side I enjoy a Vox AC15HW1, , it's the hand wired version with larger and stronger cabinet that really improve the sound ( I tested and compared to a standard AC15). I used to have a Marshall 2525, very good too but sold it as I allways returned playing my Vox. So that I don't need any other amp tones . Being a bedroom player, I don't need either a 50watts amp, 15watts from Vox tubes are already seriously loud. I fully understand gigging guitarists who would favor the reasonable weight of a 50watts nutube amp.
Hi Jonathan! did you maybe have a chance to check out vt40x as well? :) I just wonder how to compare them since vt40x uses real tube in pre-amp, on the other hand nutube is probably newer replacement of it :) Thanks in advance for your comments.
Yes Jon! Almost missed this review. I want to hear a great musicians take on this product. I really enjoy Vox’s innovations with Nutube, owning two amps with it. I’m bummed that I purchased the GTV50 which is almost identical to this model but no Celestion or 1/4 inch line out. It it still a pleasure to use with the built in effects and amp models but would love to hear this one close up. Thanks for an amazing demo and overview! I loved the tones you recorded by mic. On a side note, when I record this amp via the usb input it is rather a weak signal. I’m not sure how to go about getting more output from that source. Again glad you featured this amp. Cheers!
@Michael Zola ... I know I’m stating the obvious here, but as I have a similar problem recording from the headphone out of another Vox amp, the vt40x, I couldn’t get very far with it if I didn’t boost the gain around 10db in my daw on the guitar’s channel before tracking
Jonathan. I just bought this amp. From sweet water, lots the cats meow. For a bedroom guitar player lt cost me 299.00 us and 65.00 more for the foot pedal I really like the amp. You make it sound Really good thanks.
Just looking at some past videos Jon this was interesting , VOX it appears went from their hybrid VTX series , with a pre-amp tube, to a full solid state with nutube, I do own the VOX VTX series and you can replace the pre-amp tube and you can set the pre-amp tube's class and bias, you have that option, unfortunately my usb broke my fault cannot watch where i am watching , tripped over the usb cable to the pc, amp works still, the Cambridge does sound great, maybe people complained about changing the tube who knows, it's quite easy not rocket science ,
I agree with you about the lack of a dedicated mid control. Vox manage to include it on their VT models. Why not on this one? I'd also like to see a compressor. Again Vox include it on some of their other modellers. Other than that, I like it
Good morning Jonathan. You sound beautiful as usual, but I am unfortunately just waking up and this is a little more beauty than I can imagine before my first cup of coffee. Cheers!
Jonathan, I cannot figure out how to save presets to recall with the optional footswitch. The instructions are all but non-existant. What is the key sequence to save a preset?
Fantastic playing as always. Love your reviews. This looks like a cool home playing amp. I have a Fender champ 50xl but I don't really like it. May have to check this one out.

I just took delivery of mine yesterday. I've only had time to do a very brief run through of all the amp settings. As a guitar builder, I bought this so people can try my guitars, and have a reasonable representation of what they will sound like from different well known amps, and to record demos from (see alexanderguestguitars.com). First impressions, I'm really impressed! First thing is, there's not a bad, ugly tone in it. They all seem to sound really sweet and musical, and very dynamic. EXCELLENT! Then when you think of all the easily accessible effects, the inbuilt tuner and the inbuilt attenuator, along with the headphone socket, it seems to have EVERYTHING. And I haven't even touched the software yet. It's also lighter than my NT15 Night Train, and has a 12" speaker. To my mind, Vox designs are leading the way forward (at least for practice/non regular gigging amps). My only criticisms are; 1) no effects loop 2) delay and reverb on the same dial (you can have only one or the other) 3) only 2 band eq 4) lack of exension cab socket The last one being the most important lack from my perspective. If they could put one of those in, the world would be your oyster. So it seems to me, that if you REALLY needed it, you would buy yourself a reverb or delay pedal, along with a 5 band eq pedal, put those between the amp and the guitar, and you're all set for anything. Bearing in mind the cost; under £250 (from Amzon), the drawbacks are minor issues for me. The package as a whole is bang on. And most importantly IT SOUNDS GOOD!!! either through the speaker, or headphones. Go for it, I say!

This amp seems so nice in terms of tone ranges and embarked effects. Why should one spend 3 or 4 times more for a very good tube amp?
well...some people do prefer the sound of a good tube amp🤓
