    I think people might be missing the fact that is a TUBE amp with some modelling. It’s not just a digital modeller. The Nu-tube concept is amazing. I have one of the mini-heads and it’s great.

      @@SmithWesson90 It uses the Vox NuTube tech in the preamp. Very cool stuff with amazing potential. All the power stage is handled by solid state, which is more reliable anyway. The preamp is where most of the tone is shaped.

    This video review has proved to be the most helpful to me thus far. Sam took the time to go through each of the models, and didn't skip or skimp on the cleans. Yes, I agree with the other Larry (Antinozzi), running an acoustic/electric guitar (or even a keyboard) into the Line "model" would have been nice, but this video is still the most comprehensive I've seen thus far.

      I like the fact that he demonstrated each amp type and paired some of them with an effect or two, to showcase the Cambridge 50s potential.
      The tones, to my ears, at least, sounded killer.

    Quite a few people posting here have expressed their regret that this amp doesn't have an effects loop. But as far as I can see, you really have to step up to Boss Katana 100 price range to get that (the Vox AV30 also has one and is cheaper, but it's a hybrid).
    I can't help thinking that the big manufacturers are missing a trick here. I'm sure if one of them could come up with a modelling amp which offered the following for under 300 euros, they could wipe the floor:
    - attenuator or master volume control to allow playing saturated valve-type sounds quietly
    - just the classic amp models, say 2 Fender, 2 Vox, 3 Marshall and 1 MB and 1 clean/instrument channel, and dispense with all the obscure "boutique" models
    - just the simple basic good quality effects which the Katanas have
    - a good quality 10 or 12" speaker
    - simple control layout, like this Vox
    - and an Effects Loop!
    Surely it can't be so difficult or expensive just to add an effects loop?

    I went to guitarcenter dead set on picking up a Fender Blues Jr. or Laney Cub. Instead I brought one of these home. The plug and play factor is huge. It's probably missing an effects loop, but it's a medium sacrifice for a big sound in a little box.

    I will most likely get one of these soon. I have always enjoyed Voxs hybride oriented amps but never thrilled at the reverb. However, I keep wondering why Marshall isn't able to create things like this. It is easy to understand why some marshal employees left and created Blackstar.

    I'm blown away by the responsiveness, I've played a lot of tube amps and you can really hear every and feel every little detail and dynamic of your playing.
    Modulation effects are surprisingly good too, although I have a main pedalboard which I run through the AC30 clean, this amp has a huge "plug and play" factor that to my ears sound a lot better than the boss katana line (which I was deciding between before picking this up).

    • @YouTubeHandlesAreMoronic
      @YouTubeHandlesAreMoronic 3 роки тому +1

      @@Chaps_Jr I didn't say anything about reliability. I said MDF was more consistent than wood, which it is. Plywood has some distinct advantages for certain needs; it is very durable, lighter weight and more resonant than MDF (though heaver and less resonant than solid pine). That said, not everyone needs the durability (studio and home amps don't see much movement), and not every design benefits from added resonance, particularly modeling amps. The designers "model" the cabinet resonances of multiple real-world amps using software. They need the physical structure of the modeling amp to present a neutral "blank canvas" on which to cast their modeled sound, not to color the sound on its own. MDF is almost acoustically inert (dead), which is why loudspeaker manufacturers use it. They want you to hear only the sound that was recorded, unaltered by resonances added by the speaker cabinets. The Vox Cambridge is a modeling amp. It needs to be a chameleon, taking on the sound of the various amps it's attempting to mimic. MDF is a natural fit for it.

    • @GordonBenny
      @GordonBenny 3 роки тому

      @@UA-camHandlesAreMoronic Not so much aimed at you Desert Rat, on the whole I agree with you. There is one point in particular that most seem to have missed. A speaker cabinet needs to be acousticaly dead, no resonance whatsoever. We should be wanting to hear what the amp and speaker combination are producing, NOT "coloured" by the cabinet. Vintage amp speaker combos had that colouration and the modelling of this amp reproduces that as part of the sound, it definitely doesn't want any more coloration (distortion) added by its own box.

      It kinda depends on what you need it to do. Katana can handle heavy metal a little better, and has more functionality in the control panel. Vox has the NuTube tech in the preamp and gets you that classic Vox sound with zero effort. Katana is more geared toward the American sound, although the MkII models have an alternate voice for each channel.

      - weight: 16.6 kg (instead of 9,6kg)

    Nice but the models are same ones they keep using on all of their amps.

    • @Oncewasgolden
      @Oncewasgolden 4 роки тому +2

      Grant Hutchins I thought I was specific enough but apparently not. The Amp models themselves are the exact same models Korg helped them create more than 10 yrs. ago. The keep repackaging the same amp models in all of their amps. These amp models are from before the Valvetronix series even began. All you are doing is buying the same amp models with a new label. Is is like buying the record, then 8- track, then cassette, and finally the cd of them same music. Inside you get nothing that different but you do get a new box and wrapping paper. One would expect that at some time, they would actually innovate and come up with their own models. I am sorry if I was unclear but this amp is really no different than the Valvetronix amps created years ago.

    • @Oncewasgolden
      @Oncewasgolden 4 роки тому

      Grant Hutchins Firstly, I never said going from one music format yielded the same sound. I said that it was still the same band. It was an example to demonstrate repacking an old product in a new format. It thought this example was fairly obvious in it purpose, yet you want to twist what I said to meet your own agenda. That might work with lessor minds. I am not one of them.
      Now on to your arguement that they have upgraded the tech. Perhaps their were tweaks, but the actual modeling technology is the same. VET modeling tech is what they have been using since the beginning of the Valvetronix amps many,many years ago. They bought the tech from Korg. Furthermore, each every model has been around since then and is still what is used. Putting a faster processor in or smaller boards does not change the tone. Making a few adjustments for a speaker does not change the VET model. Essentially, you are buying the same thing( the amp models) in a new package. These are facts. Don’t believe me, go do the research yourself. It would be far easier for you to learn what you are speaking about, than to argue with your hands tied behind your back by ignorance of the subject matter.

    • @Oncewasgolden
      @Oncewasgolden 4 роки тому +1

      Grant Hutchins The analogy is perfectly fine to anyone with common sense. It was obvious, I speaking about the same band in a different format. Whether it is Dark Side of the Moon on cassette or cd, it is still Dark Side Of The Moon, duh! See where common sense comes into play here? I am guessing not, but shall move on.
      The models are identical. Perhaps new packaging has made the sound the slightly different, at their core they are same. A faster processor it not going to change code, dumbass! The code for this VET technology which is what drives these models, has not changed in the least. Would they keep calling it VET modeling if it had actually changed? Hell no! They would seize the opportunity to call it the new and improved VET modeling. Perhaps something like SuperVet modeling or some such thing. They have never once stated in all these years that their modeling technology has changed. There is a reason for this. It has not changed.
      I never said the amp needed more models. Here again you try to twist my words. Stop doing that...you suck at it and it will not divert me from facts.
      I said it needed different models. But that won’t happen because that would force them to develop new modeling technology, instead of using the old tech they bought from Korg. That is why you will never see amps like a Soldano, 5150, Dr. Z, etc. on any of their amps. That would require someone to actually develop code from the tech they bought. Thus being the lazy jackasses that they are, they only use the exact same models that Korg sold them years ago.
      I converted all my favorite cassettes to digital to avoid having to repay for something I already paid for. Why would I do anything different with something else? These big cooperations love to take advantage of ignorance. They do this because people like you don’t see what they are doing. When another 10 years pass and you still have the same models in your precious Vox amps, I wonder if you will still be singing the same tune? I highly doubt it! At any rate, you may continue this conversation if you like...by yourself. My old age has taught me that is is far easier to stab I knife in your chest, than it is to explain anything to an ignorant fool. Not only will the ignorant fool not listen and learn, he will actually be convinced he has won the argument before it is even started.

      Trust your own ears, not any biased review from anyone probably getting something in their back pocket.
      A "review" such as this is is better by far, the guy explained the features and demonstrated most of the main sounds, didn't give any opinion on anything.
      Good. bad or indifferent, is your judgement no one elses.
      Or it should be.

    It sounds no better than my line 6 spider iii. Put a new label on it and call it modern. I picked up my spider for like $50 just to work out stuff and not burn tubes. I played a gig with it, 57 into FOH. Got away with it. If you don't have a road crew carrying your monster tube amps, you aren't playing shows where it really matters. Set up something easy. My giant tube amp setup is in my studio and will only get out for huge shows, if at all. All the modeling sounds the same live. Get the best sound you can with used gear. Most gear is over priced.
