She's been saying that she had been training a lot for this scene and had good statistics of succeeding (don't remember out of how many shots she was able to get it in) but when they was to film the scene she constantly failed it. I watched an interview with Sigourney Weaver, and she said she nailed it first try during filming. She had been practicing the shot for months, and never once made it....until they filmed it.
Ron Perlman said she nailed it first try, and he almost ruined the take, but they fixed it in editing. Here's his words...
That happned… First time. Nothing but net. As you saw it. No camera tricks, no nothin’,” he said.
He continues: “I watched her training for this sequence, and they were rehearsing this little thing for a month. She never made it once. The camera’s rolling. I’m in the shot where she’s walking away and it goes in.”
Perlman lost it and nearly messed up the shot. “They yell ‘Cut!’ And everybody on the set was white. Instead of being celebratory they were like, ‘Holy f-, Ron just ruined this magical thing.’ Because I was in the shot and there was nothing to cut to,” Perlman said.
Luckily, they were still able to edit right before his celebration and cut to a close-up of a much different reaction…disbelief. Watch below.

One of those classic cases of a man or woman who has a unique look that suits them well in supporting roles and so they are always working as long as they aren't too choosy about scripts, and the fact they aren't the headliner in a many films means they escape a lot of notice if the movie isn't all that great, but still get their paycheck. Clancy Brown was another actor that was popular at that time and still is popular in certain kinds of roles.

He said when making "Alien: Resurrection" he didn't speak any English (Sigourney Weaver would often translate to the cast who didn't speak French). So, when he received the DVD for "Alien: Resurrection" it came with French subtitles and for the first time he understood what was being said, "it was pretty good" he finished. (Yes, he was joking)

The movie gets a lot of hate, but Ripley 8 being a Human Xenomorph was a fucking cool concept, my eyes went wide when I first saw she had acidic blood, I even thought she would side with the aliens at one point or at least try communicating with them. In one scene when they're talking about the Queen they took out of her, and mentioning how fast she grows Ripley 8 has a brief look of, what i see as parental pride, proud her child is growing up so fast, then she remembers who and what she is and what the Queen is and it disappears. Sort of like how when the Queen begins to spawn the Newborn, she is actually scared and confused, doesn't know what's happening to it, so she has Ripley 8, her mother, brought to her like any child would want their parent when they're scared and in pain. The movie had great promise but was executed too poorly.

The best moment is when Ripley dropped the ball with her back to the basket, and word from the set is that she actually did it on one take with no help, and Ron Perlman nearly broke character, which would’ve ruined the shot. They were worried about how they were going to get the shot.

If this'd been a standalone film it would have been the most loved of the year and one of the most of the decade, it just didn't really belong in the Alien franchise. It committed the sin of being in a position in which it was doomed to be compared to legitimate cinema greatness. That isn't a battle easily won. Love it for what it is, though.
Same goes for Alien 3 (Assembly Cut).
