Sigourney was in phenomenal shape in this movie. Probably the best shes ever looked IMO.
Nope. Galaxy Quest 🥳
Galaxy Quest! Can't even recognize her at first, looks very different.
@@Koekiepoekie She had one job!
@@Koekiepoekie That wasn't Weaver's physical condition. That was one helluva pushup bra.
Weaver actually made the shot, backwards over her head. it's not special effects. You can see it on an out-takes version. Perlman starts laughing, ruining the shot. They fixed it in editing.
I would have left the laughter in, like he was laughing at himself for the asskicking AND getting netted in the same minute.
@@TommyRibs No she didn't. She's been saying that she had been training a lot for this scene and had good statistics of succeeding (don't remember out of how many shots she was able to get it in) but when they was to film the scene she constantly failed it. And when she finally did, after many tries, Perlman got so happy he broke out of character. 😅
Benke01 she got it in on the sixth try bud.
I watched an interview with Sigourney Weaver, and she said she nailed it first try during filming. She had been practicing the shot for months, and never once made it....until they filmed it.
Ron Perlman said she nailed it first try, and he almost ruined the take, but they fixed it in editing. Here's his words...
That happned… First time. Nothing but net. As you saw it. No camera tricks, no nothin’,” he said.
He continues: “I watched her training for this sequence, and they were rehearsing this little thing for a month. She never made it once. The camera’s rolling. I’m in the shot where she’s walking away and it goes in.”
Perlman lost it and nearly messed up the shot. “They yell ‘Cut!’ And everybody on the set was white. Instead of being celebratory they were like, ‘Holy f-, Ron just ruined this magical thing.’ Because I was in the shot and there was nothing to cut to,” Perlman said.
Luckily, they were still able to edit right before his celebration and cut to a close-up of a much different reaction…disbelief. Watch below.
@@davidgraham2673 Damn you're right! My memory failed me. 🤔 Its good though... but short. 😅
Making Ripley a hybrid of the species she despised was actually a cool concept. Using the abilities of her greatest enemy against them.
たしかに
she hated*
She despised those scientists. But the xenomorphs she sincerely hated.
Except it wasn't good for anything except playing basketball.
Too bad they did nothing with it.
It was pretty stupid and cringe
Sigourney looked terrific for being almost 50 when this movie came out.
Ron Perlman, that dude was in a TON of movies in the 80s and 90s!
Some of them were bad, but he was never bad in them.
One of those classic cases of a man or woman who has a unique look that suits them well in supporting roles and so they are always working as long as they aren't too choosy about scripts, and the fact they aren't the headliner in a many films means they escape a lot of notice if the movie isn't all that great, but still get their paycheck. Clancy Brown was another actor that was popular at that time and still is popular in certain kinds of roles.
Sons Of Anarchy was good..
One of my favourite actors, and the Only real Hellboy
@@kentvesser9484 Sgt. Zim! 👍
I'll always love the first thirty minutes or so of this movie! It does a great job building suspense, character, and intrigue. True, it doesn't quite come together in the end, but the pieces were all there.
The premise sucked. And Im sorry, you're researching an engineered hostile bioweapon that has acid for blood and you don't keep them in acid proof containers? Without autokill failsafes? The movie is so stupid that describing it as ret-rded would be a compliment
Same here. The first half is so good
@@jadedandbitter The wuhan institute would like a word on what it should have done before a different lab leak.
@@billnelson3405 Nah, this is a bit beyond being pedantic. This is a plot hole big enough to drive an oil tanker through, and only mouth breathing morons are willing to defend it, most likely due to having a double digit IQ.
I never understood the ending - why not crash the ship on the moon or something?
And yes she did make that shot.
First try in filming too. Here's what Ron Perlman said:
That happned… First time. Nothing but net. As you saw it. No camera tricks, no nothin’,” he said.
He continues: “I watched her training for this sequence, and they were rehearsing this little thing for a month. She never made it once. The camera’s rolling. I’m in the shot where she’s walking away and it goes in.”

You must admire Ron Perlman and his Space Pirates, though. They were mere humans, but they were still quite formidable.
I dont care what people say, i really like this movie. Sure it is not my favorite alien movie, but I like it!
Yup. Is not the best but I like it. There are some good elements. The fact that Ripley is like a kid learning and this fact is later mirrored by the Newborn, the underwater chase and many other scenes.
Its elevated to a master piece because of how trash the subsequent films are, AVP, AVP:R, Prometheus and Covenant.
@@bernardstrauss1183 You couldn't have said better. I stick with the original quadrilogy. And I'd add the Alien Isolation videogame, of course.
@@conatcha Isolation was a god sent after the dumpster fire that was Colonial Marines, Dark Decent is great too, especially the ending giving the middle finger to Ridley's retarded retcon.
and some of the best actors-Perlman, Weaver, Dourif, and Ryder? Top notch!@@danielparra5173
Say what you like about this film, Weaver committed to the role and gave a fine performance
And this is how you create strong female characters. No need for gender-swapping.
No, just insertion of an parasitic alien Queen and crossbreeding her with that species....😁✌️
@@Das_Kaenguru Pretty sure Ripley was a badass LONG before any of that occurred.
@@darren871 well ripley did become just another mary sue. But your correct in your assertion
The first two movies would like to have a word with you
@Lord Quin Oh, dear. Did it make you choke? Poor you.
FUN FACT - Sigourney actually made that backwards shot, she insisted that she truly make it on set to be in the film!!!...
Ron Perlman is always a win :-)
Agreed. I see the shitty actor/human I turn off the movie; saves a shitload of time.
When this movie first came out, I thought "Oh no. Ripley's going through the ringer again."
Then I saw it and realized, in this movie, Ripley IS the ringer.
😄
Wringer. Like a mangle, but with two hard rubber cylinders that mash the water out of wet clothes. See 'em on old timey washing machines from the 1930's.
Mashed a lot of fingers, so they took 'em off and added a 'spin cycle" to the dryer instead.
In a DVD feature on "Amelie", director Jean-Pierre Jeunet apologized to the audience for his English as he was still learning the language. He said when making "Alien: Resurrection" he didn't speak any English (Sigourney Weaver would often translate to the cast who didn't speak French). So, when he received the DVD for "Alien: Resurrection" it came with French subtitles and for the first time he understood what was being said, "it was pretty good" he finished. (Yes, he was joking)
I don't care what people say, this movie was hella fun.
I agree. The third one was so depressing.
@The Nerdy Barbarian yup same here! In reality not all hero's make it out alive
it wasn't as good as alien 1 and 2 but surely it was fun to watch.
Really?
Overall I thought it was pretty flawed, but it definitely had its moments, like this scene. Weaver gave the impression of someone who could have killed all of them with her bare hands, and would have without much provocation.
What amazed me was how tall she is. When he walked up to her (and him being tall himself), I was like damn she's a tower of a woman.
The guy who played the original Hell Boy is 5’10”. Can definitely look taller. But Sigourney Weaver towers over him @ 5’11”. Her being a woman makes her height look even more impressive.
Ron Perlman is 6'1" . Weaver is 6'0"
She is a he..isn't it obvious "she" has a male anatomy..the long arms. Broad shoulders. Square jaw..
@@hknil8966 bones don't lie. She had the anatomy of a he..do some research...learn the human body and the 36 biological differences between male and female..just because you are unaware of something or it sees implausible to you doesn't mean its not true..

this shot was real, the director said he had an only regret....the ball disapear on the screan for a little moment
ron pearlman is good to play a side character in horror movies
aliens ressurection, blade 2.
i love that guy
You can tell Pearlman broke character at that last split second cause that head turn was a genuine "HOLY SHIT YA DID IT!" Type of head turn lmao
Hello brother. We meet at last.
It's a well known fact he did exactly that and that's why the scene cuts immediately after she makes the shot, also there's literally comments older then yours explaining how this actually happened.....man youtube comment sections are full of liars and dumbasses
Sigourney Weaver made of point of stating during press tours for this movie, that she really made that shot herself, no camera tricks.
Except that was a cut and edit from a completely different shot...so it wasn’t a genuine reaction at all.
@@roems6396 it was genuine, they had to cut the scene as pearlmen went mental when she made the shot

Perlman's scene here is a lot like his scene with Snipes on blade-2 where he gets whooped on introduction.
I'm pretty sure that scene was partially inspired by this scene? Perlman always getting butt kicked whenever he isn't Hellboy 🤣🤣
Woman with balls. I love that character.
No ! Woman with one Big ball !😅
But Lt. Dan... women don't have balls.
Never mess with Ripley or she will make you scream in pain.
"Something of a predator, isn't she?" A little in-joke on the part of the writer?
"How you doing!!.. about a little one and one, what do you say!!!.." 😄😂🤣
I loved the heck out of this scene.
takes "getting beaten in Basketball" to a whole new lvl!
I love Weaver!
The movie gets a lot of hate, but Ripley 8 being a Human Xenomorph was a fucking cool concept, my eyes went wide when I first saw she had acidic blood, I even thought she would side with the aliens at one point or at least try communicating with them. In one scene when they're talking about the Queen they took out of her, and mentioning how fast she grows Ripley 8 has a brief look of, what i see as parental pride, proud her child is growing up so fast, then she remembers who and what she is and what the Queen is and it disappears. Sort of like how when the Queen begins to spawn the Newborn, she is actually scared and confused, doesn't know what's happening to it, so she has Ripley 8, her mother, brought to her like any child would want their parent when they're scared and in pain. The movie had great promise but was executed too poorly.
I literally wanted her to not betray her child lmao. I didn’t like the ending at all.

Thank you Jennifer Lawrence for making Ripely the female hero she is today.
I'm here for this comment
What does jennifer lawrence has to do with this
@@pyaremohan3190 Jennifer Lawrence claims to be the first female action star ever in the hunger games
No freaking way, J Law looks too soft. I prefer this Ripley, and she's believable.
And I thought she got famous from taking loads in the face
That last over the head shot, Sigourney Weaver actually hit, but it was almost ruined by Ron Pearlman saying "SOB she hit it". Fortunately the gap was just barely long enough for them to cut it properly
Intense, short and well shot. Like every action scene should be.
TheBiakko Action scene? Lol
Which alien would be the best basketball player? The facehuggers?
the last shot at the hoop is real. on the set. she actually made the shot. after that it was all ad lib.

Correct. ❤️
You must hate Lord of the Rings then.
Luvv Weaver in this...Her OG Ripley in the previous films was iconic...But in this she was riduculously unrestrained, hyper sensual, and aggressive, but made it work.
1:40 - "Am I still alive? " 😂
Probably the best female action hero in my humble opinion
Of all the women in movies shown beating up the biggest men, this version of Ripley makes you believe she could do it. Sigourney's performance has a lot to do with that.
Linda Hamilton in T2, Angelina Jolie in Salt and as Lara Croft, Emily Blunt in Edge of Tomorrow, Charlize Theron in Mad Max Fury Road, they're are all THE best and MOST BADASS female action heroes! 😍😎👌
Don't mess with Ripley, she with hurt u!!!!
The premise, art direction, and cast were all great. No idea why the film never managed to impress me.
This is not a basketball game played in an aging hauler at the ends of the known boundaries of space. This game is BASKET BALLS
80s to early 2000s. The best decades human kind have gone through. Unforgettable, unbeatable times

For you maybe. Some had better times in the late 2000s.
Low key want Ron Perlman to be in the avatar movies.

Once a previous film killed Ripley off, that was the end. NEVER...kill your hero!
Die erste Heldin die uns vor der Bestie rettete und mit uns die ganze Welt!
She shoots! She scores! For real! No vfx was used, Sigourney Weaver went all in on her basketball training for Alien Resurrection.
I know this movie gets Panned but when Sigourney Weaver does shit like this she is SO attractive! That skill and smirk and her body just DAMN!!!
Cringe
2:07 Fun fact. When they filmed this scene here, with Ripley making the backwards shot, she nailed it first try. Unfortunately, everyone started cheering, so they had to redo the shot 117 times 🤣
Ohh nooo😅😆
Nope. It was a 4th try.
@@FR-dr6tu exactly i don't know why this clown felt the need to lie about the entire event
Joss Whedon and Jean-Pierre Jeunet collaboration…
I loved that they proposed something else.
I think that this movie is a little underattted…
Another episode with “hybrid Repley” would have been interesting. 😊
*A masterpiece compared to Prometheus and the rest!*
Prometheus was good too. I think they really managed to capture that forbidden atmosphere of the original Alien, but the 2017 sequel, oh lord...
Are u feeling alright in the head
Also better than the third Alien movie - course they had four different scripts (even started shooting without one) - but you can see that the quality of the franchise was still declining compared to the brilliant first two movies. Sigourney Weaver is outstanding here, however.
@@jamesrawlins735 After watch and rewatch i prefer the 3 than the 4. But for me the second was so intense compare to the first movie, Cameron done a great.
@@Didier88600 It's amazing. Cameron is one of the few directors where some of his second movies are better than his first one. Aliens is better than Alien, and Terminator 2 is a LOT better than Terminator. (The original Avatar is better than the sequel, although tbh it's more about the look and visual effects than a compelling story).
The best moment is when Ripley dropped the ball with her back to the basket, and word from the set is that she actually did it on one take with no help, and Ron Perlman nearly broke character, which would’ve ruined the shot. They were worried about how they were going to get the shot.
Not nearly broke character, DID break character. He did ruin the shot, that's why they did the cut right after the ball went in. Perlman broke out laughing.
The ball goes out of the frame before the goal. Wonder why. 😎
Yeah, there's a behind the scenes video of it. I just came from there. I haven't seen this movie so I was wondering how they saved the scene since everyone was freaking out after the shot. Probably more than Ron Perlman.
Saved by a match-on-action.@@Elthenar

That whole bit where she wasn't reacting with even the SLIGHTEST fraction of the way that, ABSOLUTELY any woman alive would react to a big bloke like Perlman being far too close, was a work of supreme acting.
And this is the movie that gave Spider-man the idea on how to defeat the Maw in Ininity War. =)
Ripley inherited the basketball skills from the Alien itself. In the Director's Cut, the deleted Ripley versus Alien basketball game appears at end movie credits. Instead of using a basketball, they use a severed head. Did they play a 5 point game of "H.O.R.S.E"? Nope. Actually "A.L.I.E.N"...
I was hoping they’d make a few more movies of cloned Ripley!!!
See what a superhuman can do! I always loved the dunk scene! Lol! “Air Ripley!”😅
I will say it was impressive seeing Ripley make the backward shot.
It's not Ridley, it's a clone that doesn't have the same memories.
Making the ballshot was more impressive
The comedy version of this film shows an employee from The Foot Locker blowing a whistle at 0:05 for that blatant double dribble.
Xenomorphs are well known for their skills in basketball

Ripley scared the fuck out of me. I was a kid back then. Watchin the re-run on the weekend. The tone of all this added to the feeling Ripley 2.0 was far from human.
This scene is the shark jump of Alien.
Ron Johner: Hey Ripley, um, me and the gang were wondering… can you blush?
certainly not the best of the Alien franchise but definitely unsettling in it's own unique way.
I am so glad for hunger games and catpiss to finally bring a female hero to screen 🤣

If this'd been a standalone film it would have been the most loved of the year and one of the most of the decade, it just didn't really belong in the Alien franchise. It committed the sin of being in a position in which it was doomed to be compared to legitimate cinema greatness. That isn't a battle easily won. Love it for what it is, though.
Same goes for Alien 3 (Assembly Cut).
So, let me get this straight. Is this the glorious movie that Jennifer Lawrence paved way for its creation through her amazing performance in The Hunger Games? Damn. No wonder this movie looks so good! lol
Wow, Sigourney Waver was such a Hottie and still beautiful to this day. Ron Perlman, I forget he was in this movie.
2:15 Gríma Wormtongue was looking better here.
Lots of well known actors in this scene.
Eh, I still prefer to think that the franchise stopped after Aliens and we're all stilling waiting for Alien 3 and Predator 3 for that matter.

That was a trick! The ball disappeared from the screen and came back into the basket!
One of my all time favorite scenes!
Best scene in the movie...sadly.

In universe, they'd instantly assume she was some kind of combat-Android. Synths with greater than human capacities have been around for hundreds of years, so the only thing unusual would be her defending herself with violence.
Sigourney was hot.
I thought this movie was under-rated. Was great writing to bring her and the Alien back, in my opinion.
Man, I fuckin loved this movie. Watching this particulary scene was delightful. Such great characters!
It was a great movie until the ending... Ripley is such a great character...
She’s a basketball star.
The way she smiles at him, while a pretty smile, its more akin to a shark, an apex predator, eyeing its prey.
