I love books like this, the drawing style really helps you with placing shading and light. It's a skill that sadly is lost in many colouring books today.

Thank you for the video, Pamela. Hopefully one day I will tackle a Kerby Rosanes page. What I would like to see is a continuation of this page and how you finish the rest of it.

I used to be so overwhelmed by Kerby and books like it (still overwhelmed by Thomas Kincaid, but that’s another bag of worms). My first Kerby page was started when I was having the worst anxiety day I had had in a while. I had basically shut down, unconsciously pulled out Kaleidomorphia and went to town with some watercolor pencils. That calmed me down, screwed my head back on right, and I had a pretty cool Phoenix/peacock colored. Thank you for the amazing tips. I always like hearing how people tackle busy pages.

The TK books and others like them (another example is the Bob Ross books) are more difficult IMO, because they try to take an oil painting and turn it into a coloring page.. vs ink artists who do a line drawing to start with. It's just awkward transition, with oddly placed lines often added as an afterthought.

Thank you for providing advice and ideas for a Kerby Rosanes illustration. I would be interested in a video applying the same type of information to a Millie Marotta illustration. Hers are intricate and overwhelming, but in a different way. Thank you Pamela!

I think people make it harder than it has to be. I've noticed that in a lot of adult coloring on YT in general. They aren't even coloring anymore, they are creating an entire other complete work over the top, at that point I'm not even sure why you would want a coloring book. It would be easier and more effective to simply create the work on a traditional art substrate of your choice, depending on your chosen mediums. I think the cover of this particular book is an excellent example of how to enhance a drawing without going to the extreme. Colors are used for their beauty, highlights and shading to enhance form, yet the drawing is clear as day. Most of it is simply transitioning color washes. Let the lines, shading, and hashing do their job.. just give it life.

I feel the same way! I color to relieve stress and to have fun, so when it becomes too tedious, and I feel I must "perform" to some standard of perfection, I feel discouraged and often quit.

Pick a page, choose some light to mid tone colors and just flat color it with a light hand. When that is done it's easier to keep going with shading etc because that open white page is gone. Remember you can also copy it for your own use, and practice if you need to before you do the actual page in the book.

I almost thought they could be pomegranates until I saw that the inside of the apple was not a flower and you pointed out the trees inside. 🤣😂 When apples ripen, do the leaves start to change? I know realism isn't needed for it to be gorgeous, just curious. I could definitely see that yellow in the highlights in the middle of the apple!🥰

I always enjoy watching you color. You always explain what you're doing and why, and that helps me a lot. Have you colored in a Hanna Karlzon book yet? Since the pages aren't white, I really have to think about my color combinations--not only the color palette that I choose but also how those colors will look on the yellowish color of the paper in those books. For example, if I use blue on a yellow paper, it could look more green than blue. Maybe adding more layers could help.
