I don't give AF about results here on this one. Its the expectation and downright collaboration of two historical supercar legends going head to head that ease your 80s childhood mind into thinking " I don't care who wins this, I love you both". Sweet vid bru, thanks
Every spoiler on every car slows it down. Point of a spoiler is to increase tyres grip in corners not to make car faster. Bigger the spoiler, bigger the drag.
+Yes i know what a spoiler does,it`s just on the Countach it only hurts the cars performance in every way. And i mean EVERY way!! It has all the mechanical grip it needs without it. And here it`s on while doing a Vmax run on a car that already has issues with the front lifting at high speeds. But yes,in hindsight maybe i could have worded the comment abit better
I may be mis-remembering, but didn't it come about because a Countach was used in a movie and the producers put a wing on it to make it look cooler, and then everyone started asking Lamborghini for the version with the wing, which they didn't make, so they just made one to keep the customers happy, even though it purposefully wasn't designed to actually do anything.
I think that was the spoiler on the hood you`re thinking of. The black one from "Canonball run". The rear spoiler came from then Formula 1 team owner/billionaire Werner Wolf. He wasn`t happy with his "regular" Countach LP400 so he poured money into the struggling Lamborghini company and got it tweeked the way he wanted in the process. 3 special "Walter Wolf" Countaches exist but those three gave the rest both the flared arches and the rear spoiler www.roadandtrack.com/car-culture/news/a28777/send-in-the-wolf-this-special-lamborghini-countach-saved-the-company/
I was a passenger in a friends car when we had just left the Oulton park track in the UK . Ahead of us was Nigel Mansel's old F40 and a modified cosworth which was owned by the son of the guy driving the F40. We were in the UK's second RS 2000 Cosworth Build, after my mate had been getting photos and advice from Paul bailey, after he had just finished the first RS 2000 Cosworth conversion. In our 1978 RS 2000 we had a modified RS500 cosworth that used spit three foot flames. We followed the F40 and the modified saphire cosworth until the heavy traffic cleared. Then we ended up in a road race all around congleton and cheshire we must have been in a full on race for around forty miles. At one point being a LHD car the F40 was almost taken out when he tried to put some distance between us by pulling out to overtake and almost taking out a capri. The F40 was pulling about ten car lengths on us over about half a mile. So it was quicker than us but it was a modified F40 that mansel used to own , so I think we did pretty well. The RS used to race big bikes at the time as in those days nothing else could really come close. I'm sharing this story as it was a pretty special moment for me to get in a race even as a passenger with such a special and unique F40 having been Mansel's own car and a car which was featured with Mansel driving it around the ferrari test track
These 2 cars were on the posters in their day and the F40 still performs surprisingly well, but you compare them with modern supercars and hypercars, you realize just how utterly terrible the build quality was. It's frankly astonishing that starting with the Mclaren F1 (which is built so perfectly good it doesn't look dated at all even today), supercars have come an incredibly long way.

When I learned the Ferrari F40 can do the quarter mile in 13.8 seconds, I realized, this car is not as fast as I thought. It was fast for its time, but even today’s stock midsize trucks are almost as fast as the F40 in the quarter mile time.
They look very good together. Wedge shape, lower fixed turn signal lights flush with the body lines then bam the edgy popups. Compliment each other well. They would look even better in my garage! but I will settle for my wall lol
Because they're comparing it to the wrong Ferrari. It's like pitting a LaFerrari against an Aventador. The F40's equal was the Porsche 959, the Ferrari they should compare the Countach with is the Boxer(512 BB). Still think the Ferrari would win though, the Countach is not a fast car.
I'm sure these cars are well taken care of but honestly wondering how many of the original horses are still there and how many have escaped from the barn...
Both Iconic legends.............but I prefer Ferrari anytime in a Ferrari vs Lamborghini match... Great history, great DNA, more classy, much better driving characteristics and (way) better built... Many of these comments point a retarded F40 driver, a Lambo superiority, or anything else as irrelevant.... I see a lucky F40 owner sparing its clutch (and weak clutch bell housing of certain fame), and its transmission as a whole. On the other hand, a Countach at its best, and with a comparatively simpler build, lower maintenance costs, and an owner who beats the hell out of it. Then, when the f40's second gear is clutched, the countach just can't hide anymore its 15 years older conception, in an era when Lamborghini s.p.a was struggling for life...
