I opened at least 30-40 packs of these back in present day. As a Mets fan and his phenom status, the 'chase' card for me was the Gregg Jefferies. I maybe only pulled one. Being short printed explains that (I had no Idea until now)....Many of the pose images (including the Jefferies) are taken in Major League stadiums. Like seeing that much better compared cheap-looking spring training backgrounds (2018 Heritage is sadly mostly that)...I bought 1988 Donruss factory set around 2003 for about $5. In that, cards are packed in 6-55 cellophane-wrapped lots. Puzzle pieces are rubber-banded but not sealed.
I'm literally opening up a box of these while I'm watching your video. Wanted to do a comparison. Pulled two glavine rookies in the first 6 packs. Both at the very least 9 maybe PSA 10. Almost halfway through the box now. The Gladden was the only one I needed but I'll take the Alomar or Grace or Williams or even a Gregg Jefferies. Pretty happy with the purchase though
Update... I just pulled another glavine that is absolutely a PSA 10. This is insane. These boxes are always condition sensitive and I'm pulling card after card that are in perfect condition just also pulled both Clemens and Nolan Ryan that appear to be tens. While I'm sitting here in the car. 😁 Anyone know if there's a way to post pictures to the comments? I don't know if I've ever done that but I'd like to take a picture to show people
Good gawd...just pulled 4th glavine. Still have 14 packs left to open. This is insanity. On a side note, have yet to pull Alamar or Grace. 4 Tom glavine and 1 Matt Williams so far
Kirby Puckett passed away too. I have 2 boxes of unopened cellophane packs. Each box has 24 packs and I paid $20 per box. That's less that $1 per pack.
Dave Winfield was not only a great player but a great person. He went around to hospitals in the ny/nj area visiting sick people. My grandmother met him in Hackensack medical center while she was there
I think this is my favorite series of yours. I am still relatively young, but I got into collecting from cards my dad, uncles, and grandpa gave to me so even though i was born in the mid 90s these are the era of cards that got me hooked on collecting.
That’s a dark set!!! The contrast of front of cards was so gloomy lol Gregg Jeffries! Cmon son! We all got duped! I’m a Yankee fan and still believed his hype back then. This should be fun. Peace E! Hope to make your fan mail Friday tomorrow!!
Always love seeing the Greg Maddux cards! One of the best!
Awesome breaks Jabs, bring back memories of opening them as a kid.
Throw back Thursday’s are my favorite
i love throwback thursday!
Throwback Thursday is awesome!!!!!!!
Awesome TBT! Thanks for sharing.
I love that you started TBT series
loved eckersleys delivery!
I love the 1988 Ricky Henderson card, it was one of my favorites.
griffey, buhner, big unit, edgar all on the same team. awesome!
Dale Murphy deserves to be in the hall
Yes he absolutely does
Great throwback!
Its a card break/history lesson. A+ Jabsy!
love the throwback
The first set I ever collected. 25 cent packs were easy for a kid to get his hands on.
I wish I had a bunch of old becket magazines to look thru!
Always like the donruss
love the 88 design
that's dale murphy! id recognize him from anywhere! he and Bob Horner visited me and the kids at Scottish Rite Hospital in the 80's
Cool TBT. I like the design, hate the lackluster rookies and over production, like all 80's and 90's stuff
you're the man EriK! love your videos
Trying to remember..I think 1991 was my first box..got it for Christmas as a kid
buhner was sweet. those mariner teams were awesome
YES THROWBACK THURSDAY
Love me some Dale Murphy.

Bought a box of cards at Walgreens and got a donruss 88 pack turns out my dad loved that set
Fun box break. Love seeing the old names out of the wax packs
Ahh, good choice for Throwback Thursday. Doesn't get as vintage as Donruss.
Love the break
Ahhhh memories....
I personally liked this design of cards.
i like how you show the old becket prices
If I keep watching these videos I might have to get back into the hobby. Maybe complete all my sets from the 80's and 90's.

Just added the Matt Williams... again PERFECT condition. All of these have nearly perfect centering as well.
Good gawd...just pulled 4th glavine. Still have 14 packs left to open. This is insanity. On a side note, have yet to pull Alamar or Grace. 4 Tom glavine and 1 Matt Williams so far
I use to buy the Canadian Leaf version of this. I believe the set was 330 cards so its interesting to see the ones we didnt get.
It's always fun seeing older cards
love these cards some much spent 88 dollars on a box full of them i love this set
Those large Diamond King cards buy Perez Steel have a pretty good value if graded
Kirby Puckett passed away too. I have 2 boxes of unopened cellophane packs. Each box has 24 packs and I paid $20 per box. That's less that $1 per pack.
Nice box
Dave Winfield was not only a great player but a great person. He went around to hospitals in the ny/nj area visiting sick people. My grandmother met him in Hackensack medical center while she was there
Rock Filipowicz Winnie was a winner, gentleman and a class act. One of my favorite Yankees of all time!
If the autograph insert era existed during that time, it would be Dale Murphy for that set....probably only 500 signed
The puzzle pieces and stickers were much better inserts than gum
gotta love murph on the box
They didn't want to use the same players as Diamond Kings every year. Murphy had been a DK a few times prior. That is why it was Hubbard
Great video
anything with dale murphy on the box has to be cool
Double Trouble.Lol. I remember when Eric Davis was Hot. 85 Topps rookie, I think.
When you pulled the John cangelosi It was funny because he is the head coach for my baseball organization
Awesome video
I love how you bring out the old Beckett to look up the prices. Great video!!!
@@pauld8790 Same here I wish I still have mine.
I have an unopened box of that. Now I am tempted to open it....
Pack at 2:30 is nearly identical to the pack at 4:25 (just 1 card off)... As was common with the era!
Sweet cards
You're such a honest person! Hardworking role model!
My mistake you can get the 1988 Fleer set also for 15 dollars
Love the cards
Enjoyed the history information while busting the box.
I’m pretty sure everyone in the world has at least one shoebox full of this set
Any year is infinitely better than 1990 donruss...
Loved the video Eric
The memories of ripping these boxes open when I was a kid. Good times!
awesome vid
81 Donruss had gum though; 82 started the puzzle pieces
Bought the last 2018 series 2 from my local shop yesterday and pulled a 5/10 Khris Davis auto patch!
1990 LEAF!
Gotta love 80s wax always the same
Always wondered what the puzzle looked like
great video even though you didn't find the Tom glavine rookie card
Yeah you can buy that set of 88 Donruss now for 15 dollars
i like 89 donruss design
And the diamond kings cards are cool
Nice video, you should a box of 1999 Upper Deck, you will find Adrian Beltre rookie and also Carlos Beltran rookie in there
Love the videos
I’m willing to bet like 90% of these players have the same mustache 😂
I love how excited Dale Murphy is on the box
They did this design again with The Rookies set a couple years ago that you found at Dave and Adams. They all sold out after your video haha
It's sad Ken passed away so young. He was a good dude. Just had a problem.
Brought back alot of childhood memories thanks for another great video!!!
Would love to see 82 Topps
I am so happy I live in the south

Always loving Throwback Thursday! Thank you for the video!
Did that Beckett say Mike Greenwell was a buck fifty!? Haha
That box cover looks so weird
Nice cards
Jay Buhner had a rocket for an arm!
I like the backs of these cards. Not sure why.
Love the vids keep up the good work
-4 degrees?!? I wear thermal stuff when it’s 50 out here In So Cal. How do you even manage in weather that cold?!
Were so used to it in the winter, im wanting summer now
I love busting old wax.
Nice video
Finally heading to get some Topps Series 1
On the same day I met Glavine I also got Bobby Cox's and Terry Pendleton's autograph as well
That was a disappointing box but a nice trip down memory lane.
I just rewatched this tonight. Such good stuff. A terrible set but great memories of my childhood.
Looks like you got your Van Slyke. Other than that this box was a pretty big bust.
The days of unlimited cardboard!!
