With older (NES) stuff the sifficulty is sometimes like that, as in the higher difficulty can inexplicably be easier than lower ones. I used to rent Chessmaster for NES and struggled on the medium difficulty for a while before saying "What The Hell" amd turning it to max ("infinity" I believe) and I won the game in like two turns, by accident. What a happy accident that was.

Ha funny how that works. Reminds me of Skate or Die in the Pool Joust as another example, playing on the easiest guy seems to be much more difficult than taking on Lester who is meant to be far and away the hardest.
