- Emmy-nominated actor David Oyelowo joins "CBS Mornings" to talk about starring in and executive-producing "Lawmen: Bass Reeves." The show is based on the true story of Bass Reeves, a former enslaved man who went on to become one of the first Black deputy marshals in the United States.

David Oyelowo, underrated .
I love to watch the show and particularly appreciate the setting of pre-Jim Crow, reconstruction era. It's a rarely discussed historical time period and I appreciate the visual representations of the changes in statuses of different groups under Civil War, Reconstruction and Jim Crow eras.
We are enjoying this series immensely.
I didn't plan on watching it but I just happened to walk by the TV and saw a glimpse and then sat down for a few hours.
Such a great series, really enjoying the story and stellar actors.
in 2017 the show "Timeless" season 1 episode12 featured a storyline about Bass Reeves. It's on Hulu...just saying. Now I will watch David Oyelowo's show. Loved him in Queen of Katwe!

I recommend "Corsicana." Isaiiah Washington is great as Bass Reeves. Being from Texas he already knew how to ride a horse. Imagine that an ADOS actor portraying an historical ADOS figure. 😍 📼

Say what you want about Taylor Sheridan with his beef with Kevin Costner and Cole Hauser. Sheridan nailed it with this show about Bass Reeves. Should have been a movie made about him a long time ago.
