Woodford Double continues to be one of my favorites. Even after getting my hands on more expensive, more allocated, fancier bottles, every time I go back to Woodford DO I'm still surprised by how much I enjoy it. It's sweet and round and interesting and rich, but balanced. EC Toasted is really hard to find here, but if I see it one day I'll definitely pick it up. "Buy glass one but buy two of glass two" indeed!
The camera is power here. It’s just a totally different lens (that’s too long to use in our new space), space, and lighting. Our current Wednesday videos will reflect the direction we’re heading.
I've not had the EC Toasted but WR DO is one of my favorite pours. I'm pretty cheap/frugal on such things and, because there are so many great products in the $30 and under range, that is where I live. But I would put WRDO as my favorite special occasion pour and it just makes me smile. And Josh, my middle daughter is like you. She keeps her bedroom 'a penguin habitat' as she puts it. She hates summer heat but is in her glory when the temps are under 50. I tend to be more like Erin. I have a system. Don't touch it - you break it. 😁
Great comparison. I like both of these and typically have them on the shelf. Honestly, I don’t understand why some in the community hate on ECTB. For the money it’s a nice enjoyable easy sipper.
Cooking with Stuff & Whiskey - Butterscotch? Oh no no no...that's browned butter, vanilla, and funky feet. LOL, just bustin' your chops a little...And listen to Erin, the rye guy, liking the double oaks! Seriously, I love your videos and you guys have become a true guide for me. Yes, I'll try whiskey's for myself but your shared experiences definitely help out. I "bought" my lady a bottle of the Woodford Reserve DO, but really because it wanted to try it. Now I may have to try it behind her back. Thanks for another great video especially with bloopers kept in at the beginning. And whoa...Josh lives in an igloo? Props my man Josh, keep the heat no higher than 64 equals an extra bottle of whiskey every month!
I just bought Woodford double oaked for the very first time and I happen to also have an unopened bottle of Elijah Craig toasted. I'm definitely going to have to do a side by side comparison
Buttah! Erin a 7! Wow! Josh your reactions are priceless. I can send you EC Toasted if you ever need it. Readily available here in PA $49.99. WR DO is actually more here $59.99. Interesting.
Great match up, as always! I love the nose of WR DO - I find it's like hot buttered pancakes with maple syrup. I also think it's close to it's cousin OF 1910. The first time I tried the EC TB I expected something similar, but it's different. I find the palate not as silky as the WR. Great pairing! The Woodford is a permanent stock for me.
Woodford Double Oak and Old Forester 1910 are two bourbons that I never not have. It’s that good! My local story has ECTB for $89 and there’s just no reason to dish out that kind of money when the other two exist.
Love both of those bottles. How fitting that this video comes on the heals of my comment on your last video about fomo and overspending on ECTB! Haha!! When you can find it for retail in WI I think ECTB is closer to 50-55. So price point I’d say comparable, but yeah availability is killer.
Experiencing Woodford DO with you in virtual real time with you (don’t have the EC, but coincidentally picked up a bottle of the Woodford this morning when I was out). Butterscotch nose fo sure, with you on that, Erin! Gah, now it’s gone in the time it took me to type that…now I get cantaloupe. Don’t even know how to describe the palette..it fades into an oak presence though. My first and previously only experience with WDO blew me away. I’m really curious now to compare this to OF 1910 because, from memory, Woodford blows 1910 away. Both are super available though, so regardless, it seems no need for me to concern myself with ECTB. Thanks, FOMO fighters! WDO is such a cool experience. Oddly, I had to go to two places today to pick up a bottle…. wtf lol Keep it up! Best reviewers in the ‘verse! PS: I LOVE butterscotch and would eat it all day PPS: Dammit now I want pizza lol
Thanks for your channel it is very pleasant to watch you two. My wife and I just started our home bar less than two weeks ago. I got the bug after watching some videos and then started talking to my wife and she had a desire to try some so I researched the beans out of really good starter bourbons, ryes, and Irish whiskey. This is what we are starting with, Sazerac rye, Powers 3 swallow Irish whiskey, Basil and Hayden, Angels envy, Elijah Craig small batch, Wild Turkey 101 bourbon, buffalo trace, and Woodford reserve double oaked as well as a couple flavored whiskies and bourbons. I just bought the Woodford, Buffalo trace, and Basil Hayden today and we have not even tried them yet. If my research was any good that should be a solid starter for our bar and next month I want to get Four Roses small batch select and 1792.
That’s a fantastic start! If you find any of those particularly hitting your palate in a favorable way above and beyond the others, let us know. We’d be happy to make some additional recommendations of things to check out that may be in a similar flavor profile. Cheers and thanks for watching!
So, I am a little late to the ballgame here, but I just had my first pour of double oaked. I HAVE FINALLY FOUND A BOURBON I GENUIENLY LOVE!!! Before this pour, all I have had was Four Roses yellow label and their small batch. To be honest, don't like them. This double oak though? Man. So good.
This is totally off topic, and I've not seen this reported anywhere yet, but saw Eagle Rare on the shelf today and...the 10-year age statement is back on the front of the bottle! It's weird that I find this exciting...
For higher proof it’s hard to beat Elijah Craig Barrel Proof and we don’t find Rare Breed to be particularly fruit forward either. For lower proof we like 1910 a lot and Blue Note Crossroads is a good budget friendly option.
Thanks Erin for scoring something outside of the bell curve! It seems like everything scores in the "ok" range and it's hard to figure out what you all like more than just average. Most tastings seem to fall in the 4-6 range and that isn't telling the consumers much at all. Lol. Playing it safe with the scores keeps you from having egg on your face down the road but most every video I've watched from you all always scores in the "decent" category. It's not very helpful to me but maybe lots of folks can figure out what to try next from you folks. This was one of your better vids, in my opinion. Thanks!!!
Funnily enough we used to expound upon that point more in that most things do come across as just okay when tasting blind. That was a big part of the bell curve scoring system, and we never wanted to rank anything purposely high or low just for the sake of pushing a score outside of that range. That said, our new rating system that we're using on our Wildcard Wednesday and head-to-head Thursday videos (as of this week) is much more helpful for viewers we think. That system will be hitting our Monday videos in just a few weeks too.
Glad you found us! Technically it’s double oaked whereas something like Elijah Craig Toasted is toasted, but they do impart similar flavors and are good buys. Cheers!
I would choose OF 1910 over both of these but WRDO wins out in this battle for me because of the price point. I've purchased ECTB twice and paid $100 then $110 for the bottles. It's good but not double the price good.
WRDO is definitely a fave. I've also really liked the 1L WR store picks floating around the local liquor stores as well. Its not DO, but definitely has a similar profile and notes. The DO nose is very distinctive to me. Heavy maple, and butter, almost borderline port finished. Toasted Barrel? I have it, need to crack it.......Cheers and great review!
I always recommend WRDO when I encounter someone at the liquor store shopping for a gift if they don’t know what to buy. 1910 seems like a slightly bolder version of WRDO to me. I found ECTB really did benefit from some air after opening; initially I thought it was a little bitter.
Great stuff as always. Hers my question, woodford DO, VS eagle rare? I can find eagle rare pretty easily, usually a little higher then you’ve quoted in the past. (I like the sweeter, darker flavors) Keep these head to heads coming!
Someone recommended Elijah Craig Toasted to me a few weeks back, so I kept my eye out for it. Ended up at a liquor store in the middle of nowhere in Kentucky and found it. $120 for the bottle. I did not buy it and I'm envious of that $70 price point lol. The search continues!
I am a bit bias as a Heaven Hill fan boy, but $60-70 is too high for this product. (I paid $59.99 for my last ECBP). I will buy them both but WRDO has the upper hand with pricing and availability. WRDO is the best possible consolation price for a toasted pour all day long!.... CHEERS!
I agree on the WR dbl oak! I picked it up at Costco for 28.00 and Sam’s for 34.00👍👍👍 haven’t had the ECTB but I did see it for 75.00 the other day so probably pass and get three more WR😃
The only brown Forman product I seem to like is Jack Daniels for some reason I just don’t get the same experience from Woodford Reserve and Coopers craft as others do. I keep revisiting bottles after seeing reviews and I’m just not getting it.
I can get the ECTB for less all over the place. I have both on my bar but my WRDO is a store pick, so that may not be fair. But i still want to see where my palate goes for this
Quick update: im putting Elijah Craig on top tonight. Woodford reserve DO store pick that i have has a detergent type bitterness im guessing came from the tannins. It’s smoky, but bitter. Not a good finish for me. However, the Elijah Craig toasted barrel is just as available and I believe the price is in the same ball park. I get the smoke, but instead of bitter, I get toasted nuts and marshmallows. Way better. For me, Elijah Craig is the winner. Not hating on this video though. It motivated me. Good Job y’all!
Good question. We never look. Our integrity is all we have and we’d never compromise that for a video. We do take a fair bit of time on the break to focus on the glasses without having to talk to the camera though, and it can sometimes make for some pretty big swings-not usually, but sometimes. It’s kinda fun when it does.
I've followed my try two bottles rule for both of these guys that I am at least fine with, but parts of the world just love, and I am still just okay with both (and the WRDO was one regular and one pick). In the toasted/double oaked category, for a similar price to WRDO, I am gonna go OFO 1910 10 times out of 10, and maybe throw in a Penelope Toasted if I see one in Texas and wanna support the new generation of upstarts...it's solid. I still have a Starlight in the price range of ECTB that I need to crack. Let's be real though...I'm at the stage of life where an extra $30 is worth it for dat Barrell Vantage...and mine hasn't even fully opened up yet.
I’ve never had ECTB. I have 2 bottles of WRDO that were gifted to me. I had heard so much about it, that I was excited to receive them. To me the Woodford Reserve DO tastes like the old Heath Bar candy bars. Now that I’ve experienced more flavors, it is a little too sweet for me…
The only EC I do not like is the toasted. Have the Woodford double oak have not opened. Love 1910 and have a Penelope Architect that has not been opened. I will see if double oak is my style after opening them.
We’re sitting on an Architect Build 2 ourselves that we need to get into. Expect to see it on the channel in video or livestream fashion at some point soon.
You just spent the first-third of the review saying how disappointing you were in the flavor profile on Glass No. 2, but then ended up scoring it higher?
Cooked butter that develops a certain level of savory richness that’s not present in regular butter. It’s hard to describe the flavor but it’s super easy to make.
For the life of me...I'll never understand nor conceptualize just how you all get these Ice Cream Sunday flavors with your taste palate. I don't get it as I do not have the requisite taste buds OR imagination to taste this. I am a lost cause since all of it just tastes like bourbon. No brown butter, no pancakes, no heavy vanilla cream and not butterscotch!!!!!!!!!!!
Josh here. It's truthfully just repetition and thinking about what it reminds you of. A big help has been actually paying attention to what things taste like when eating, as that's something I never did before the channel, and it's helped a lot to correlate what I'm tasting in whiskey to what it reminds me of based on what I eat. And it's taken the better part of a couple of years to even get what we do.
A semi wacky review, you guys especially Erin was like "I'm so disappointed" in the first round on WRDO, and then after the break you guys are almost raving over the WRDO. WTF !?!
Erin was more than tipsy on this review. 😂 love u guys, great review
We cannot confirm nor deny said level of tipsiness in this video. 😂 Cheers Kikin!
right away too
@@dylanlenn7836I also love alcohol
I love the pizza delivery interruption, most people would have completely cut that out. Good stuff guys, cheers 🇺🇸 🥃
Will pause for pizza 😂
Woodford reserve double oak is the one that started my bourbon journey, it will always have a spot on the shelf!
I'm a scotch guy more than anything but Woodford Reserve DO is one of the handful of bourbons that I truly enjoy.
Can always tell which videos were filmed last in the batch due to Erin’s dead giveaway. Great video and love both of these pours. Cheers!
😂😂 cheers and thanks for watching Jon!
Woodford Double continues to be one of my favorites. "Buy glass one but buy two of glass two" indeed!
Y'all look better from this angle...I'm not sure what it is... But the camera appears higher here than in new studio (or something) and I like it.
The camera is power here. It’s just a totally different lens (that’s too long to use in our new space), space, and lighting. Our current Wednesday videos will reflect the direction we’re heading.
These are totally up my alley! Love them! Thanks for the video Erin&Josh! Cheers🥃☺️
Loving all the new content. Please don’t burn yourselves out. 🥃🎉
Definitely. We’re loving making it! Balance is key and we’re finally on the right side of not too busy.
We've done a similar blind and WDO came out the winner. Great video guys. Cheers
Thumbs up on putting delivery pizza in the oven after it arrives
I've not had the EC Toasted but WR DO is one of my favorite pours. I find that Woodford double oak needs some air and time to really shine. Also my favorite pour
Penguin habitat! 😂😂 Love it Roger. Cheers!
Great comparison. I like both of these and typically have them on the shelf. Honestly, I don’t understand why some in the community hate on ECTB. For the money it’s a nice enjoyable easy sipper.
The WR DO makes a great dessert whiskey. It is also a great whiskey for rum drinkers who might want to try something other that fireball.
Just cracked open some WRDO…man is it sweet! And not a bad type of sweet…could definitely make a good pancake syrup though lol. It’s a solid pour!
Elijah Craig was my first bourbon. I haven't tested it against my more current wheaten favorites. One common nose note is old leather.
I haven't had the Elijah Graig. The Double Oaked is Woodford's best product to my palate.
Oh that’s super interesting Mike! And we may take you up on that EC Toasted offer down the road.
Love ya’lls program. So appreciate your reviews and comments. Unfortunately many of the bourbons are not available in Ontario Canada
Thanks for the kind words Graham! That’s a bummer on distribution.
Great taste and comes across much higher than 90 proof. Costco in Northern Indiana is $43.
Woodford Double Oak and Old Forester 1910 are two bourbons that I never not have. It’s that good! My local story has ECTB for $89 and there’s just no reason to dish out that kind of money when the other two exist.

Another great matchup and another great video. Thanks again
The flavor really balances out if you shake the bottle of Woodford Double Oak after opening it. I find 1910 to be less flavorful than OF 1910.
That pizza was a great call, Erin seemed a wee bit tipsy! Im guessing you filmed more than just this video that night 😂
We can neither confirm nor deny those claims. 😂
This is totally off topic, and I've not seen this reported anywhere yet, but saw Eagle Rare on the shelf today and...the 10-year age statement is back on the front of the bottle!
It's weird that I find this exciting...
Love the video. I love hearing flavor notes that aren’t fruit. What are your favorite non fruit note bourbons?
For higher proof it’s hard to beat Elijah Craig Barrel Proof and we don’t find Rare Breed to be particularly fruit forward either. For lower proof we like 1910 a lot and Blue Note Crossroads is a good budget friendly option.
Woodford is so distinct!! The EC toasted pales in comparison. Woodford DO rules!!!! 😀
Thanks Erin for scoring something outside of the bell curve! It seems like everything scores in the "ok" range and it's hard to figure out what you all like more than just average. @@stuffandwhiskey sounds cool! I'll be watching. Thanks!
For me 1910 is just a bit more complex than WRDO. But i do really enjoy both.
Love watching a heavily buzzed Erin
Will definitely have to rewatch this one to see just how true that it! 😂
I was searching YT for toasted bourbon. So WRDO is toasted= Great, it is on my to-buy list for my tomorrow shopping tour. :D
D
Glad you found us! Technically it’s double oaked whereas something like Elijah Craig Toasted is toasted, but they do impart similar flavors and are good buys. Cheers!

WRDO is super easy to get in London and we can buy it for about £52. I definitely have a bottle. It's lovely.
I bought Elijah Craig toasted barrel today for $54. Woodford double oak is $59. Don’t let them rip you off for the allocated stuff.

I have a pick of WDO and it was all brown sugar, marshmallow and it was the first whiskey I got chocolate on!
Great stuff as always. Hers my question, woodford DO, VS eagle rare? I can find eagle rare pretty easily, usually a little higher then you’ve quoted in the past. (I like the sweeter, darker flavors)
Keep these head to heads coming!
Sweeter *and* darker screams Woodford DO. Eagle Rare is sweet but pretty fruit-forward.
Love this type of video🙌🏽
In Ohio ECTB and WRDO are the same price @ $55 and 1910 is $57. ECTB is much harder to find of course.
CHEERS!
I agree I like double oaked much better both are good but double oaked is a easy sipper and bold flavors I also get that buttery note
How was the Pizza?
Great review. I agree 1910 and Woodford are both better than EC
That pizza hit the spot!
I agree on the WR dbl oak! I picked it up at Costco for 28.00 and Sam’s for 34.00👍👍👍 haven’t had the ECTB but I did see it for 75.00 the other day so probably pass and get three more WR😃
I thought I would really enjoy WRDO but I wasn't impressed. I overpaid for ECTB, but I dig it.
The only brown Forman product I seem to like is Jack Daniels for some reason I just don’t get the same experience from Woodford Reserve and Coopers craft as others do. I keep revisiting bottles after seeing reviews and I’m just not getting it.
Both are great to start the night off with.
Love some woodford double packed. I haven’t had any of the toasted barrel. I had a pour of Nashville Barrel Co cask strength small batch tonight.
I really hate autocorrect
I feel like every older episode I’ve seen they’re always eating pizza lol
After the recording for sure. Can’t beat delivery after some pours. Go to post-bourbon food!
WHISKEY CHEERS 😎😎😎😎
Wow... big difference after the break... did you all look at what they were during the break before raiting?
Good question. We never look. Our integrity is all we have and we’d never compromise that for a video.
We do take a fair bit of time on the break to focus on the glasses without having to talk to the camera though, and it can sometimes make for some pretty big swings-not usually, but sometimes. It’s kinda fun when it does.
Msrp of both of the bottles is the same at 50, but yea the EC is only really around in the fall I’ve seen
You should try Joseph Magnus triple cask.
Love this matchup. We finally got two bottles of EC TB while in KY in July. Is it just me or does Erin seem a little toasted too ;-) Cheers!!!!
We cannot confirm nor deny the level of sobriety (or lack thereof) displayed in this video. 😂
I can get both of these in my market. They are both $54⁹⁵, if you had to choose just one, which would you snag?
Woodford for us, but Old Forester 1910 over both.
I've followed my try two bottles rule for both of these guys that I am at least fine with, but parts of the world just love, and I am still just okay with both (and the WRDO was one regular and one pick). Let's be real though...I'm at the stage of life where an extra $30 is worth it for dat Barrell Vantage...and mine hasn't even fully opened up yet.
Barrell Vantage content is coming 😉 and good call on Penelope Toasted!
I’ve never had ECTB. I have 2 bottles of WRDO that were gifted to me. I had heard so much about it, that I was excited to receive them. To me the Woodford Reserve DO tastes like the old Heath Bar candy bars. Now that I’ve experienced more flavors, it is a little too sweet for me…
It is VERY sweet, that’s for sure
Erin eyes lids look heavy going over the score at the end 😂 should have ate the pizza while you filmed 👍🏻
More pizza is always the answer!
To me, they are 2 different beasts. I do not like EC toasted and love woodford double oaked.
EC toasted $60 in Massachusetts fairly easy to find
The only EC I do not like is the toasted. Have the Woodford double oak have not opened. Love 1910 and have a Penelope Architect that has not been opened. I will see if double oak is my style after opening them.

I'm with you on toasted being the only EC product I didn't care for. All I could taste was pop sickle stick. 70 bucks was way too much!
You just spent the first-third of the review saying how disappointing you were in the flavor profile on Glass No. 2, but then ended up scoring it higher?
When you take a little time with something, things can change.
Toasted Barrel in VA is $54.99
Erin's slurring a little. Must've been the last recording of the day. lol. I love EC Toasted!
Haha we usually never get that far but would have to rewatch to confirm or deny (and we'll stick with deny for now 😂). Cheers and thanks for watching!
lol 😂
Erin is trashed! 😵💫🥴😵💫 That's fun. Nice video.
Can we plead the fifth? It certainly wasn’t our first video of the night. 😂
I agree... 1910 tops.
Thumbs down on rebuying EC Toasted, was so disappointed
I found Woodford double oak @ $48 at Sam's Club
luv you both...what are your signs?
Astrologically speaking? Oh man, you’re gonna have us Googling. 😂
what the heck is brown butter?
Cooked butter that develops a certain level of savory richness that’s not present in regular butter. It’s hard to describe the flavor but it’s super easy to make.
PIZZA!!!
....but how was the pizza? :)
Everything we needed in that moment! 😂
Is it just me or is Erin a little tipsy in this one?
Can we plead the fifth? 😂
WTF !?!
A good testament to things opening up in the glass and/or your palate acclimating to a pour.
