"Deep down we only care for ourselves" WRONG our poor Odysseus cares only for Penelope and Telemachus

There's something delightfully horrifying about the implication that Scylla actually saw right through Odysseus' ploy, and played along anyway out of twisted respect for a kindred spirit.

I want to provide some context for those who missed the livestream. There's a whole animatic for this song that shows that Eurylochus was one of the 6 torchbearers. Odysseus consciously decided to sacrifice him to Scylla (most likely as revenge for opening the wind bag). The only reason Eurylochus survived was because he dropped his torch in the chaos and another Sailor grabbed it. Eurylochus even tried to warn the sailor but was too late to react, all the while Odysseus emotionlessly looked forward at the front of the ship. This song is gut-wrenching.

"We are the same you and I" coming from Scylla... younger Odysseus would have been horrified to hear this

“Deep down, you hide a reason for shame” I love how initially you’d interpret this as Eurylochus’ guilt as he’s about to confess about opening the bag. But it can also apply to Odysseus who is planning on sacrificing some of his men.

fun fact: if you listen closely enough to the background after "ROW FOR YOUR LIVES" when scylla starts singing her main verses, even though some of them are quiet underneath the strings, vocals, etc,

The fact that odyessus order to light up 6 torches to eurylochus, which is the exactly the number of head scylla have,is so odyessus can sacrifice 6 man cuz scylla will definitely target the ones who have the torches and so odyessus wouldn't get eaten in the crossfire, that why in the end of the song, both odyessus and scylla sing 'we are the same you and I' together as they both willing to do whatever to survive

Fun fact! In a story of the Odyssey, Circe loved a mortal-turned-god named Glaucus who is likely the one Circe mentioned in There Are Other Ways "I have been in love once before." He did not return her feelings and said that he loved a nymph named Scylla. In her revenge and jealousy, Circe poisoned the water Scylla was bathing in and she turned into a monster with six dog monsters coming out of her.

I just noticed something: Scylla's first three lines are threats directed to the crew, to the men that she eats:
