Remember, this was all analog: tape loops, live drum tracks (or percussion beds built from multiple overdubs), and timing stuff by ear instead of by digital timestamps. It is as impressive now as it was when in came out.
@@stopthephilosophicalzombie9017 Yes, this is one trippy video! David Byrne wrote a book called Bicycle Diaries, and another called How Music Works. I read the former years ago, and I just ordered the latter from Amazon for 10 bucks.

My Life In The Bush Of Ghosts really go my attention when it was released in '81. Acid for the ears. Great job on this video! Way more than a collection of short takes, fits the video very well.
Still a rare accomplishment from anything else that's been done before or after it dropped. I also can't think of anything either of these talented artists have done that matches the innovative, ground breaking use of samplings as lead vocals on the tracks here. The music has that metallic edge, and the new world beats they employed..one has to remember there was nothing like this before. ...or since! America is waiting for someone to make music like this again.
Just discovered My life in the Bush of Ghosts - excellent album. Every track is brilliant! Going out to find the book which inspired Eno & Byrne for myself. Thanks for creating these vid, love the visuals :)
@@AnEclecticMan Same name "My life in the Bush of Ghosts" en.wikipedia.org/wiki/My_Life_in_the_Bush_of_Ghosts_(novel). Though as the wikipedia article suggests it doesn't have much to do with this great album. I think 9 years ago, I was a bit naive. lol.

As far as pioneering experimental music goes My life in the bush of ghosts is fucking GOD! , there has never been a better album before or after this one. And I reckon it's the best thing Eno or Byrne have ever done, including all their other projects.
If I were to do this now, myself, I'd throw in lotsa clips of people who enjoy playing "the Knockout Game", because it would show a direction I think America was actually waiting and holding their breath for ever since the 1960's. So we pull ourselves to pieces....
Appears that Oliver Stone has a thing for Byrne/Eno. I just realized this was in the original "Wall Street" movie from the 80's. last week I went to see "Wall Street Money Never Sleeps" and the opening song was another Byrne/Eno tune called Home which is an amazing song. Thanx for the upload, Oldfinger. You did an amazing job!
I'm not sure what this is, but Bruce Conner, the famous avant-garde film maker made a film to go with this music. I believe this is his film below, rather than this one. I've seen this one on an avant-garde website site and reputed to be Bruce Conner's film. I wish whomever made this would plainly state that this is their film that they made to replace the original film. This film, and the one on the other site, have images of Obama and Bush in them, so they cannot be the original Bruce Conner film. I believe the film below is the Bruce Conner film. www.tatortkunst.at/video/bruce-conner-clip-3-america
It doesn't look like the creator of this video was aware of Bruce Conner or his work when he made it. Of course, he could have been indirectly influenced by Conner since Conner's influence is pervasive. However, he could have gotten the idea for the style of the video from the music itself, which is a pastiche. Anyway, IMO, this is better than the Conner film for this song.
Hello Vast Krut Empire, you're right I'm not aware of the Bruce Connor film & I don't know anything at all about the guy himself. It might easily be that I've seen his stuff without knowing it of course. The film I made was just inspired by the title of the song and the mood the music created for me, nothing else. If what I ended up with has any similarity to Bruce Connor's film it must have made the same impression on him! Thanks for watching and glad you you enjoyed it.
Wow, thank you so much! I just always loved the song so decided to make a video for it. The video started off with fewer, longer clips but while I was editing it, I began to realise that short, fast-cut snippets suited the song better. I had to search for an awful lot of material but eventually it all ended up as this. Took a while...but great fun! Thanks again for your very kind comment.
It would be great of someone could sort this out. But... I must say that this film is really quite good. If it's not Bruce Conner, then it's very nicely inspired by him.
+DrTallgreenalien Um thank you! No, it's not Bruce Conner, I am afraid I don't know who he is, but it was me, I know who I am. I always loved this song, and most of the rest of MLITBOG. I made the film slowly over a week or two, with a bunch of old clips ripped from various sources, just using Corel Video Studio. I'm continually amazed no-one has insisted I remove the video as I must have screwed loads of copyrights....I used the same close-cut technique on other videos (check out What's Wrong With you on my channel). So, thanks again for your comments, and very glad you enjoyed the video.

Thanks for watching. I get so many comments about this. I made the video from scraps I downloaded mostly from the Internet Archive. I had never heard of Bruce Conner before people started saying this was his work, or I’d stolen it, ripped it his style etc. I’m really flattered to be associated with his work, but genuinely, any resemblance is coincidence.
When tagged as the inventor of the music video, Bruce Conner said "Not my fault!" (ua-cam.com/video/ysshIvtrN54/v-deo.html). The Dadaist beat him to that title, but he was an important developer of this art form, and THIS video IS one of his (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bruce_Conner), so credit is due.
