👇 ABOUT ME:
Hey! I’m Damian Keyes and I've worked with musicians every day of my life for the past 20 years. The internet is de ply untrusting understandably and here is my background so you can have the full picture.
When I was 18, I was signed to a major label and at 23 I co-founded a Music University in Europe called BIMM (valued at $300M). I’m also a bass player, I’ve played for a number of artists including Eric Clapton, Alanis Morrisette and Billy Cobham. I initially retired at 30, but realised that life gets boring if you’re not building!
I have always been in-between the music industry and education which is how I ended up building my UA-cam channel - I’ve been teaching artists how to release music long before it was a ‘niche’! I now educate artists around the world with my Academy, UA-cam channel and Social Agency.
It’s great to meet you and looking forward to working together on your music!
Can you imagine how satisfying it would be to scroll back up and smash that like button turning it into a crisp shade of blue
Done as always :)
LOL yes sir
Haha good one😂 How about the subscribe button🤔
Very satisfying
haha
Yay, I can double mine too now. So I am looking at 8 plays this month.
Lol. Innit.
I feel you bro 😭😂
The way I look at it, it’s 8 plays more than most of your buddies have. 🤣
Drop the link and I’ll give it a listen
😭😭😭😭😭😭
This is so over-complicated. If I wanna double my spotify plays I just have to listen to the song again.
Hahaha love this
Made my night lmaoo
I am so with you, dude 😅
When I saw the title of the vid my first thought was, "I'll get six streams per day now!" JK, I am watching the video while eating blueberry pie. Damien knows what I am talking about.
Does spotify not have some algorythm which may interfere if from the same IP adress stuff is played over and over ?
Are you saying you can change my 3 Spotify plays in 6 ? I'm listening.
Progress is progress 😂
😂
But they are not lol
win
Dont stop husseling
BIG TIP!!!
if you put the video’s playback speed to 2X, you will be able to quadruple your daily spotify plays!
😂😂😂😂
It's less overwhelming and stress-inducing at half-speed. Seriously, the energy of the presentation makes it feel like it's too much
0 plays times 2 is still 0😜
Let’s change that dude! 🤟🤟
Damn, I came here to make this joke :/
@@lucalibre5286 you muat have so much unique jokes
Totally with you. My Spotify listeners (sorry, listener) currently stands at 1. I expect that to hit 0 pretty soon. Woohoo for being a musician.
Why did the chicken crossed the road?
My strategy is to release a single every three weeks until one blows up. That way my numbers keep going up which helps with everything. I start teasing only a week before. Started releasing in february and Im currently at +10k monthly listeners and well over a 100k streams!
That’s amazing!
This is my plan right now. Released a song 3 weeks ago, second one dropping in 3 days. What techniques did you use?
GangstarapMadeMeDoIt hey man! That’s a cool strategy! I have a question for you....Have you considered, noticed or thought about your followers getting tired or bothered by the fact that every month you are asking them to go listen to a new song?
Just asking to see what is you experience in that area... any fan burnout?
Thanks in advance for the reply.
@@JonathanAvilaMusic I can imagine people losing interest because of strategy "Go listen to my music" every 3 weeks. How many monthly listeners do you have? I am stuck currently with 10 monthly listeners and Spotify algorithm is not helping at all to get new listeners. What do you suggest?
labakais16 get listeners to add your song(s) to their playlist (no matter how small the following on the playlist is) & the Spotify algorithm will pick it up. Check Damo’s 24 hour release strategy video for more in-depth info!
I can increase my spotify plays from 0 streams to 0 streams? What a deal!
Me when I get I get a notification by Damo: 0:08
YES! 🤟🤟
Patience is so key! We are a metalcore band from the states. Essentially what we do is this:
Our vocalist Richard handles 99% of the marketing.
What does that mean? Well, it started by building up our UA-cam channel. We did it a bit differently than other bands by doing reaction videos of the genre we are in/around. We also just launched a podcast. This allowed us to reach over 7k views on our release back in March when our sub count was obviously lower.
From there, we target Spotify playlists. How so? Well, now, we have done extensive research of playlists we'd fit on and put them in a spreadsheet. Once we get the master back, we start to reach out, with the song and explain the release date.
Fortunately, Richard also has a journalism degree and has done *some* press release writing, so he does that as well and sends it to outlets.
For our last release, we did a Nintendo Switch Lite Giveaway for pre-saves. With the current climate, we are not doing that, however. We are getting a music video, lyric video, and audio visualizer made for staggered release.
We plan on releasing one of the videos through another UA-cam channel with a massive following, followed by a video on our personal UA-cam. Then a week later, we will release the music video.
We are also going to do something where we will have reaction channels do reactions, get segments of those videos, and make another "video". And of course, we will definitely do some targeted marketing on social media - NOT BOOSTING!
A lot of this stuff is trying to figure out what works and what doesn't. It's important to spend money and market. You WILL mess up sometimes. We are definitely not experts at this. We've taken in information from numerous sources, including Damian to help with this.
No, this comment wasn't meant to put over what we are doing but to lend a helping hand. A lot can be done DIY these days, but yes... It takes a lot of time and effort!
Thanks for reading. Love the content, Damian!
Hey Damian, just wanted to say a huge thanks for these videos. A mate of mine turned me on to your work and have to say I'm hooked! After some time in numerous bands, I'm starting on my own with solo music. It's all recorded and the first single's slated for 6th November (everything's ready now and am submitting it to Spotify on Monday). Starting from scratch is obviously tough and I'm feeling the strain, but these videos have been brilliant!! It's really teaching me about what to expect, to put the work in and more (particularly the piece about releasing music with zero fans). Have subscribed. Am looking forward to watching more! :D
Hi Damo! Thank you SO MUCH for this... I've been getting discouraged after every move I make on social media, etc, but your videos always pick me up and help me get motivated again. I shared your channel with a bunch of artists I know as well so hopefully they can benefit too. I just released my second single "Breathe" in response to the COVID situation and was disappointed with the reception since I find it really hard to break out of my immediate circle. I'm not in a great financial place right now (shocker there!) and am still in uni so I've been working with a friend to come up with creative ways of gaining momentum and fundraising and your videos have really helped both of us get an idea for future strategies. Cheers from Canada!
DUDE THANK U AS ALWAYS🙏🙏🙏🙏 You've been a huge factor in motivating me to get going with leveling up my release strategies!!! 2 months ago I started watching you, released a single and already in 1 month I reached 14K streams!! Im sharing how I did it on my channel as well, DK thank you brother Youve been major for me 💪
Yessss!!! That’s awesome
This is AWESOME to read!! I love this. Thank you for sharing, and make sure you send me that video. Legend 🤟
Right on!
Will do brother!! Sending on instagram now! 🤩 thanks again!!!
I released two singles but have no idea what the hell it is I am doing. I’ve been writing music my whole life, but I’ve never “put it out there” so to speak. This is a first for me entering into the music business
Been waiting all morning for this!! Love your stuff thanks for all the help
Ah thanks so much Connor!! Let me know if there’s anything more I can do 😊🤟
How did he help you? Maybe i have something similar..
I wish it wasn’t so hard to market your own music 😴
For real
Thanks for the wisdom Damian, it's always has a lot of value. Just released 3 singles with music videos since quarantine started! Small reactions but really working on making 20 first tracks to just get past the beginner stages as a musician.
The diving thing was probably the most incredible metaphor I’ve ever heard 😂
Our new album is going to blow up!
Always happy to hear some good advice. Thank you 🙏
Thanks for the great Info, it was very helpful!
As always putting out great informative content. Thanks bud and be safe.
Hey dude I’m thinking of starting a band soon and I’ve been watching your vids which have really cleared things up, thanks man consider me subbed and a fan 👌
I followed a lot of the steps you’ve shared and my recent ep just hit 1 thousand streams! IM GRATEFUL FOR THIS CHANNEL! THANK YOU
Thanks for another invaluable lesson Damian 🙏🏻 Question, would the same apply if you were releasing a cover version in and amongst your own releases?
Is there a way to salvage a release that's been released already? Say, you don't have that momentum. What can be done to maximize once a song has been released?
My first release garnered over 5K (accidental methods used) in a month but finding it more difficult with my second. Any thoughts here @Damien?
Very glad that most of the things in this video are things we have planned! 😅
Was worried that everything in this video would be new to us! (and that we would have a mad rush for this Friday's release)
Thank you for another great video! I feel like this explains why my music hasn't been as viewed as I want it to be. You're the best!
Love your content Damian. Thank you for your help! Huge thumbs up!!
Wow Thanks For the advice .
I love your supporting spirit!
Makes so much sense, you're a hero
Hey Damian what's your opinion on releasing 4 singles in a month and doing smaller scale weekly promotions for every song. Would this be a good alternative to a large scale promotion campaign for 3 weeks followed by the release of 1 single on the 4th week as far as building momentum goes?
The most satisfying thing after spending days creating music is having to create a plan to promote or make music video, album cover, register the songs, promote it on social media etc.
I enjoy the process of making music. Everything after drains my energy, the digital world changes fast, every strategies gets obsolete from one song to another, including trying to have a viral hit.
Just found your videos! Glad I did. I have so much to learn. I have a bunch of singles partially recorded and need to put this advice into practice. Feeling a bit overwhelmed but grateful to find your useful tutorials
Amazing advise! We have the challenge to release a song each month and it's been such a learning experience. June is the second month and trying to plan ahead the best we can.
Our debut release got onto BBC Radio Newcastle and a fair few spotify playlists. We rushed the release so it interesting to see how it goes when we release it properly with a strat.
Awesome! Looking forward to watching your progress 😊
@@DamianKeyes We hope you do! It's definitly worth it ;) Something that you didn't mention is the importance of the first 24 hours. Having a presave and 600-700 (for our level) people listen in the first day pushed us really really far up the algorithm and we're kissing 20k after a month :)
@@joshthurlow11 I completely disagree with that. It's not real anymore. Ever since 2018, Q2 2018; it's been about slowburns. I have a few songs that managed to hit it and they're fucking killing it. One of our tracks currently, 3½ years post release, get 10x what they got release week (which was on a label with a campaign and actually had a good first week. 3 fucking years later, every single day
You've got old info.
@@noname-ng6sj I wouldn't say he has old info. The first day worked for Josh recently, the slow burn worked for you. I wouldn't expect the algorithm to have one set way in which it works. That seems kinda counterintuitive, right?
Good luck
This is fantastic. This needs covering as I have a blind spot before and beyond the release sequence. Looking forward to learning more about this. Thanks so much 👍
This is perfect timing as I’m releasing a new song next month, cheers Damo!
This was good information thank you!
Damian! Just received my new track back from mastering and I am currently in the process of planning my next release for late June and this is super helpful! THANK YOU! Hopefully this release proves to be the most successful with all this pre planning 🙌🙌
Thanks so much for the helpful tips Damian! Coming back to this video after releasing our new song "Live it Up" and the plays are certainly on the way up! We've got a long way to go, but your videos are helping tremendously.
Hi Damo! Thanks for all the useful videos! Quick question: If you've got a group of friends ready to share your release, should you get them to all share it at once (on the day release) OR have them share it across a period of time (eg. one friend a day)?
I tried your 20 day release plan, it was great but COVID hit right in the middle of it but I'm kind of glad because I've been able to stretch your suggestions out over a longer period. This has been great for a few reasons: I'm solo, so executing all your suggestions was a huge task in the timeline you suggested, this release was the last from my current EP and it'll be a good while until I release something else so it's giving me lots of content ideas to keep things interesting in my feed and not just posting another freaking selfie!! Thanks Damo
Hey Damian, thanks for the good content as always. I just got one 2 spotify playlists from triggering the alg! :D
Everything you’re saying is true however I’ve went against it and tried random methods and surprisingly they all work in due time
Which methods did you try? Sounds interesting...
Thank you for that video, it contains really helpfull tips! I will pay attention to those on my next releases
Accurate description on the new power held in the DIY! Good work Damian 🙌
You're the one of best teacher!
Thanks so much for helping me with my music career Damien!!
Slowly absorbing all of your video advice - trusting the process! Definitely a battle trying to get your stuff heard, as evidenced by the majority of the other comments - I don’t feel so alone in my endeavors anymore lol
Following several of your techniques and it is working gangbusters. Would love to know more. I'm releasing music in a few weeks and got my very first discover weekly play today (literally one person). Wish I could be one of your test cases, ha! Thanks for all you do.
Thank you Mr Damian ,i follow you in this journey long time, keep the good advice
Cheers Damo always great videos from you. Always thankful for your help.
Thank you for watching 🤟😊
Thank you for this lovely video. I am about to release in about a month and I'm glad that I watched it today.
I love this ..you preach so much it's becoming part of my DNA..I am recording new material now and already thinking of promo vid ideas!
Thank You so very very much for sharing your knowledge with us! I wouldn't know where to get all the information so nice explained if not here.
Appreciate your advice on building a story with Spotify Artists. We recently released our debut album and we're currently searching for the right playlists to connect with. Digging into more of your videos now.
Hey Damo! I messaged you on Instagram about my band a while back, we are planning to record an EP after lockdown and we have been taking notes from your videos to build a release plan for ourlselves! Great content as always! 👍🏼
Hey Aiden! That’s awesome!! Keep me in the loop with how it’s going 🤟🤟
Cheers Damo, will do! 🤘🏼👍🏼
At the beginning, you described ALL of the actions I took with my last single, step by step. You got my attention, sir :D
we have a release ready to go in terms of mastered etc I’ve been using lockdown to take my time to do the artwork, wrestling with what to do for an actual music video BUT, the 5 music video thing you say - music video / lyric video / live video / acoustic video? Live footage of us playing it at a show? Or 5 different individual short fire videos breakdowns of the main music video to be used as teasers? Cheers Steve
thanks man, it really puts me down when I try my best for a song and the streams are really low.
I’m releasing my first song end of November. I need promotion and distribution help. Do I use a distributor or do I open separate accounts for example with iTunes, Spotify pro sound cloud etc? Any help would very much appreciated 👍
Another really interesting video. I would love to know how I could improve on getting more listeners the catch up of the show on Spotify.
Nice one Damo... I've got what was going to be album but I'm loving the idea of the regular singles. Just sorting the background work on videos and trying to get my head together since my life got stopped...
Cheers your videos are always helpful
Always glad to help 😊😊 let me know if there’s anything else I can do!
I’ve been watching your videos and I will always appreciate your step by step “Spotify for artists” walkthrough where you essentially listed off what needed to be on your Spotify profile, it’s the best one on UA-cam and you should be honored by the whole of the internet for that work.
HOWEVER, I have to be honest, i have no clue how anything you just said in this video really relates to the videos title. “Prepare promo materials beforehand” which is what you essentially conveyed, has nothing to do with “how to double your Spotify numbers” really. there’s a video you had recently where the advice was essentially “Be YungBlud”
Maybe I’m just all wrong and I should just be thankful, but I’m sure some of us want more specifics than “create a buzz”
Cool video, very helpful !!!
Got my first release coming out mid June! Excited to implement all your wisdom Damo 🙏🏼
Awesome!! Keep me in the loop dude 🤟😊
Love your background!! Basses👍👍
Thanks for the video. I am in the finishing stages of a new album & this is very relevant for me. Cheers.
Yo first thing fist I smashed that like button into the crispest shade of blue. Thx for the vid! Could u explain what kinda videos artists can do besides a normal music video to come to 4 or 5 videos for one track? Lyric video and live video would be an option I guess, any other stuff? Would you also do this for older songs or release those different type of videos directly after the official music video? Thanks again man u always on point 💯
Thanks Damian for sharing your knowledge! Without people like you, we wouldn´t be able to be our own entrepreneurs. Thank you very very much!
Hi Damien it's my first album and was wondering what you thought also on UA-cam. Thank you and such a great Channel .
Thanks Damien. Perfect timing - working on increasing streams on my new Spotify releases.
Amazing! Happy to help 😊😊😊
Damian Keyes thanks. Working on promo materials now - new songs should be on Spotify shortly. Cescodandrea.com
Great stuff as always, thanks a lot🤘🏼🔥
Thanks for being a part of this awesome community 🤟😊
I can’t create ads on instagram fb disabled my account...releases my instrumental EP almost a month ago but so far 13K + streams but the following on Spotify is low my only concern. What should I do?
Hey Damian. Great content as always. I wanna ask you a question specific to my case, which might prove to be helpful to some other artists.
I've been dropping 2 singles/ month for a year now. And that rapid release schedule has given me a good momentum on YT. But I don't know what strategy to use for actively marketing on Spotify and other platforms, since I only have one week for a song's pre-release campaign before I move on to my next song. Any advice? Thanks
Ads going to Spotify would be good here as you can keep the traction going whilst feeling like you’re constantly promoting an older song with a newer one on the way. I actually have a Spotify ads strategy in my academy, which you’re more than welcome to check out.
The pace of releases would work well on Insta too as you’re constantly providing new content which is great. For insta you can break down sections of the vid, come up with stories of how the song was written etc.. and that’s all stuff you can keep going as you build
@@DamianKeyes Brilliant. Thank you so much. I'll take notes. And I'll check out your Spotify strategy. How do you feel about using services like Playlist Push?
Bro I would realest once a month instead of 2 singles in one month.
@@DamianKeyes can you link to an Instagram account that does this so we can see what you're talking about? Would be much appreciated.
Releasing a single this week with my band, so this should help out a lot! Planning to post countdowns 3 days prior to release after teasing it a week ago, updated banners and profile pics, then will run an ad campaign wisely over the next week. Thanks DK!
Good luck for your single release! 😊😊
Hey bro I been following your page recently I have to say it’s great to learn and get to the point your details are on point and very true. Very logical guy to follow everyone should learn from you
Hey man, I have been following your videos and trying to follow the advice. Thank a lot man. I am a keyboardist, poet and song-writer
You're really making me want that subscription to your group Damian 😅 Great video!
Great video 🙌. I’m releasing an EP in June. I haven’t posted about it on socials yet because I’m using your 20 day plan for releasing. I’m gonna use the 10 days before to build up the attention. Love the vids 🙏
This is good 3 weeks to roll out a project definitely works very effectively
EP’s do not work like they once did. EP’s are for fans who have enjoyed your singles. There needs to be a demand because 90% of the time EP’s flop.
I love your content. I've been listening for a long time to you! I do actually have a singular song release going on right now. It is my first one I have released, and I fear I have already done it wrong. I posted it on soundcloud, let my Facebook, and UA-cam know I did, put the links to it in the description, and people went and listened. The problem with that is the song isn't even on Spotify, apply, music, amazon music just yet. It takes 21 days. How do I salvage this? Im a New artist and not a huge following at all, in face im a brand new artist, but I understand how these algorithms work to push content out to new potential fans and I want to make sure when the song does hit the app stores that it will do remotely well. What can I do?
HE IS TAKING 11 MINUTES OF MY TIME REEEEEEE😂😂
Hey, man always a pleasure to see your videos, i followed your advice from other videos and i started promoting the release 3 weeks before with pre saves snipets of the song and artwork, it did get me almost 100 stream on launch day, but nothing after that, any tips on how to get new people to listen? also pre saves are not working no one pre save my song haha
Yeah, preparation always makes sense, creating excitement for the upcoming song.
Released a single with no ads first, just did a couple of video teasers/making of stuff a month before release and lots of people starting to presave it. After the release, we boosted it with ads, along with sending the track to the radio stations. In the end, the song added more than 50 playlists on Spotify, including editorial. Can't say that we get millions of plays, but definitely, it works better, than our last cooperation with a recording label, who decided to release an album only with one single.
BTW, we playing Melodic Metal.
Interesting video, very well explained. Good job!
Just what I need. Super as always Damian. 👍😁 PS I bought your book. Great tips. 👍🎸🎶
That’s amazing thank you so much 😊😊😊
I've never regretted watching your content. You're an amazing UA-camr. Thank you bro.
Thank you, this really does mean a lot honestly 🙏🏻
Really appreciate the advice
Let's get Damian to 100K to get him verified, he deserves it!
thank you, your advice is eye opening for me as I have started creating music just trying to create. I completely missed the other half (marketing). Thank you for your insights.
Thank you for watching! Glad to help ❤️
Great work. I pitched for the first time a song to Spotify playlist curators six days ago. The realese will be on 12th of June. I have now the link. Can I share it, it works or it is not allowed? New in this kind of making, after 10 months doing nothing on Spotify and the last two nearly 9 hours each day to put on collaborative playlists.
I recognise so much from releasing our debut EP in May this year. We did crowdfunding, hired a studio and got right into the creative process. The EP was released on Spotify and we got around 700 streams in total (for all the tracks together) in the first month. Then...nothing. We’re doing better than we were before, but nowhere near as good as we had hoped. We didn’t have a plan for promoting our music. So, after countless hours of watching UA-cam videos we’ve come up with a plan to release 12 new tracks over the next 18 months (one every six weeks) with three videos for each one. Video 1 on release day, video 2 two weeks later, video 3 two weeks after that. Two weeks after that comes the next release and the cycle starts again. The release dates are already pencilled in our agenda. Since we know which songs we’re going to release, and when, we can already start recording. We’re also planning on a couple of collaborations with other artists, either remixing our stuff or doing something new together. Finally, we’ve started revamping our Spotify page, but watching this video has made me realise that we still have some work to do there. Thanks for the tips.
Since you asked for releases.... this released Friday, July 31, 2020, and is so far going really really well.

Thank you!!!!
Hey Damian! I'm releasing a six-song acoustic EP debut called "Sunbleach" next week on May 27th! Just me and my guitar, it was really an exploratory effort for me to get a hang of how DAWs work and to learn about music production more generally, but I really like how it turned out! I'm so excited to finally get my original music out there! Thanks for your content, it's very helpful!
From the war of art - "Resistance outwits the amateur with the oldest trick in the book: It uses his own enthusiasm against him. The professional, on the other hand, understands delayed gratification."
I like to get the fans involved in the process. Sometimes I'll go live when I'm working on a song in Pro Tools to show how I do it. They end up feeling very attached to the song and are excited to share it with friends when it comes out.
THE GOAT !
