    I really relate to your comment about for some people it's getting hard to care about movies anymore.
    Maybe I just don't have enough time anymore these days. But the only films I think I saw this year were the Mario Movie and Elemental which I thought were both just alright movies.
    That's ridiculous if I think about it, I only saw 2 movies this year, but I genuinely don't really care for some reason.

    It's so pathetic that it's gotten to the point where people have to preface their review by confirming they aren't just a hater in order to legitimately give a negative review, and that people are so quick to jump to, "oh you hate women," just because someone may not like a movie that they like. Good review, BTW! The kitty is adorable. He looks just like my black cat Sunny.

    I always respect your opinion Brandon but we definitely are on the completely different sides of the spectrum with this movie 😂 I absolutely loved this one, and felt like it was such an incredibly efficient return to focusing on the relationships of the three characters, and fixing the biggest issue with Captain Marvel previously, which was her not feeling believable on team because she’s too overpowered. By connecting their powers, jt forced Captain Marvel to work with others and not just cockily save the day. It was also so interesting to see her paired with a character who has a bad history with her and doesn’t think she’s the greatest thing since sliced bread (Monica) while also having her face to face with her biggest fan who despite previous unwavering faith in her, now sees that her hero can’t always save everyone (Kamala). Both comedic scenes I think you’re referencing really worked for me, and I also really loved the villain. There is a short scene where the villain is on her home planet and the citizens are watching her and it was so effective in making you understand why these people are following her. Even the visual language of some of the costumes, framing, and space-ships fit within the Kree/Captain Marvel design. It’s not perfect, but I seriously loved this, and that was even before the ending/post credits scene. I’m sorry you didn’t have any connection to it, because for me it really really worked.

      Hey Sasha! Really great to hear from you again! Actually, my friend I saw this with, I told him to subscribe to your channel because I think he’d love your content (as do I… I should comment more lol). Yeah, I liked that scene too of the villain talking to her people on her planet. Do you think it’s because I didn’t like Captain Marvel and haven’t seen Miss Marvel that I couldn’t connect to some of the character moments and get into what was happening with their powers? Cause I get what you’re saying, but when watching the movie I just felt like I was the one kid playing with a bunch of new kids on the playground who are all in on some joke that I know nothing about. Like I mentioned, the theatre was in an uproar… and I REALLY wish I had the same experience as you!

    • @CymruCreator

      I think this is really interesting because I went to see it today on the recommendation of someone else I respect as much as Brandon. I think the issues with this movie are about timing and thematic resonance for some part, and foreknowledge of these specific characters as well. I really meshed with Kamala through the ms marvel series and what I saw here was a continuation of this that really worked for me. I did notice some real problems with some parts though, like the lead into the bollywood style planet tonally clashed with what came before. also, the part where Kamala's mother came on the screen, telling Kamala she can't go on missions in space, that really grated badly. The short scene with Tessa Thompson was really bad in my eyes too, it really did not work at all for me. There were other issues with timing such as when Carol was floating in space and everything was silent, there really needed to be more time for us to feel what she felt. there was also apparent foreshadowing that didn't pay off, such as how Dar'ben was using the bangle to interact with carol's powers but they never tried that with Kamala's bangle. That was perplexing. I also think Dar'ben's backstory really should have been a prologue.

    • @SashaRaquel
      @SashaRaquel 10 місяців тому +1

      @@CymruCreator I definitely agree with what you said about Dar-Benn's backstory; they waited too long in the film to explain this and that's not fair to viewers to have them relying on story information that the MC did something bad without us seeing it. I think thematically, I walked away from this one thinking about how a team allows for hard choices not to fall on a singular individuals shoulders, and that "standing tall doesn't have to mean standing alone" as Valkyrie says. I agree too that the Ms. Marvel tone carried into this movie really worked, but also thought the singing planet of Adalarna worked - totally fair if it didn't for you.

    • @SashaRaquel
      @SashaRaquel 10 місяців тому +1

      @@BrandoCritic I do think not having watched Ms. Marvel could have played into it, as she has such a key role here (as does her family, really) and so being familiar with them and their dynamic made their appearances in the film more exciting for me. You raise a good point about the "being in on the joke" as there is a lot here that feels like an amalgamation of previous appearances from these characters that I felt made the film more efficient whereas someone who hasn't been tuned in to every project may feel like storylines are being rushed or that not enough exposition is provided to truly care. It's something I switch back and forth on how I feel about the MCU - is it better to make movies for fans who know everything that is going on and reward them for that loyalty and scholarship of material, or does that make each project lesser as a piece of work because it relies too heavily on other context or stories?

    Weirdly, this film is currently at 61% on Rotten Tomatoes. That's more than Top Gun (57%), Taken (59%), Mars Attacks (56%), Man Of Steel (56%), Blade 2 (57%) and Spaceballs (57%)!

    Marvel has always been this. I was this during The Avengers. I was done after IM3. I actually enjoyed Love and Thunder but I had no expectations and hadn't seen a Marvel movie in a while. (caught parts of Endgame and really couldn't care - it was so up its butt)
    Enjoyed the first half of Captain America - it had something to say in critique of war and propaganda. Last half was so juvenile it just was unenjoyable. Here's the deal blockbuster movies are juvenile and are spoonfeeding you tropes. Its nothing. Always has been. Corporate materialist culture is vapid nothing.

    Not a Marvel fan here. I don't watch them. I don't care about them for exactly the same reason you finally came to realize. They don't offer any sort of memorable experience. They are the cinematic equivalent to junk food. Forgettable, uninspired, lazy, and repetitive. As soon as you leave the theater, you forget about it. The sad thing is that this is what the younger generation is used to, and studios will continue to deliver these types of films so long as people continue to consume them as much as they do.
